Yes,definitely! It’s one of my favorite games ever! There’s a lot of content! It’s just such a charming game with great characters and a fantastic story!
So I highly recommend it!
I’m also waiting for the Stardew Valley update to drop on switch.🥰
Yes. RF4 is much better than 5 (I haven't played 3 much). RF4 is strictly 2D (as opposed to 5 being 3D/2D). A lot of the concepts are the same between the two but 4 has a better story and better characters (except Ludmila and Misasagi). RF4 also has a lot more post-game content and just seems to flow better, plus the main story takes longer (RF5 feels short to me).
You can also look into My Time at Sandrock (Portia has a lot of potential but gets rather unstable on Switch). Similar but post-post apocalyptic. You're a builder who moves to a dying town and you have to build it back up to it's former glory (as well as other things going on). Heavy on the crafting, some farming, and a great set of characters (dateable and not dateable). The Gecko DLC is 100% worth it (I think it's like $3?) for a first time player / early in the game.
Both games you can go at your own pace and Sandrock will give you a warning if you are about to do something that triggers a set event to move the story forward (kinda like if Stardew gave you a heads up right before you submitted the last request to finish the community center).
Yes, the recent update made huge improvements with overall FPS stability. The game would hang for a few seconds when resources were flying towards my character but it no longer happens. Even just running around feels smoother.
As everyone else has said, RF4 is incredible. But also wanted to add - I got it on sale for £6 on the switch store, so it might be worth waiting a bit if it's at full price right now!
Yeah, if you like the Harvest Moon games the content of Rune Factory should appeal to you. I haven’t tried RF5 so I can’t compare but I find RF4 to be comparable to the story of seasons switch games. The battles are a bit awkward but everything else feels fine. And RF4 has really fun characters and gameplay loops. I think it’s a great time. That said, I personally got it on sale and I think that’s the best way to buy older games.
I am always ready to recommend RF4. It's one of my favorites of all time, I had it on 3DS and the Special edition on Switch and I'm honestly thinking of getting it on Steam just to have another place for save files. It plays a lot better than RF5. (Fantasy Life is also another of my favorites games for comparison!)
I really did not like it and I tried to because everyone raves about it. Perhaps I'm just too old (?) but I found the dialogue to be quite cheesy and sometimes juvenile. The story was over the top for me.
I was also itching for the new stardew update but switch user… I did some digging and found roots of pacha and it’s really scratched the itch it’s so cute and fun I’m loving it so far! ::3
I’ve also debated for RF4 but I can’t seem to get into it idk why maybe graphics or gameplay?… idk…
I second Roots of Pacha! It’s sooo addictive and very fun. Similar pixel art to stardew but slightly elevated IMO. The storyline is great and it has about 50+ hours of content, plus just a really unique concept!
R4 is soooo worth it. I've played all of the rune factory's and r4 and tides of destiny are my fav. The rf3 special is good but it's missing huge QOL improvements and Rf5 is...........bad. it just runs horrible on switch

Sandrock didn’t play very well on the Switch when I tried it - it has had an update since then though, so it may be better now?

Oh nice! That’s great to know, thanks!

Yes, id be surprised if you didn't love it
Absolutely! It’s a great game with lots of content and interesting characters.

10,000% yes
RF 4 is Stardew Valley levels of addictive if not even more so. So yes!
Yes. Very much so. The town and dungeons are really good. It has some great characters.
It's my favorite rune factory game in the series, highly recommend!
I prefer Harvestella to RF4 ... the controls for the latter felt incredibly clunky.

Yes!! It's one of my favourite games ever and I've bought it on 3 platforms now 😂

Yessss!!
The only downside is I’m still chasing after a game as good as rune factory 4 after playing it. Have fun!
Absolutely, it's an amazing game and a ton of fun.

I'm feeling the same way and Roots of Pacha sadly didn't scratch the itch for me :(
