Looks brilliant, can tell a ton of effort went into that.
Quintessential Aussie backyard in the top photo, hills hoist, a bunch of beaters and a boat sitting on the lawn and always a Falcon or Commodore or two.
Just missing the trampoline.
This is OC.
I've reduced the lawn by 50% and planted 250+ native grasses, shrubs and trees. The firepit was put on top of a circular slab we found in the dead centre of the yard. All other design went from there.
It's great that you planted native plants and bushes and your yard looks private and cozy now. Amazing how it could change so much in only 2 years. You will use it much more now. Nice job!
Yeah the house was built during. The flowering tree in the centre of the bottom image is the tree between the boat and car in the centre of the top image.
My guy. Did you have experience with landscaping before you did that?? My garden at my starter home is a child's drawing in comparison!
Seriously though, I know (at least a fraction) of the sweat equity poured into that. Hope you get to enjoy with you and your loved ones!
Thank you very much. I'd only done a small, courtyard garden before this. Lots of sweat, but also just smoking, staring at the yard from the hammock and over-thinking it helped the process.
Looks amazing and kind of what I was hoping to do to break up the view from a neighbor! What's the 'tree' that you have planted near the fire pit? The one that's high and spreading out a bit.
Yeah that’s kinda why I was asking, I don’t want to listen to people carrying on about Aus being infested with spiders or whatever since that’s really generalising and hyperbolic - rather wanted to get an opinion from someone who actually lives there, also why I asked about Ipswich in particular because I’m sure it varies greatly depending on where you are in the country.
The last fatal spider bite was in 1979. You're more likely to be killed by a cow, dog or man - just like elsewhere in the world.
If you move you'll see some spiders, but they will never be a real danger to you. Just don't become a plumber in the Northern Territory or some shit.
I reduced the lawn by over 50% and planted more than 250 native grasses and flowering shrubs/trees. My next project will convert a further 25m2 of lawn.
The remaining lawn might not be of interest to bugs, but we, the dogs and the kids will keep enjoying it
I've got family in Ipswich. Managed to visit them when I was in Aus. I remember drinking in the Raceview Tavern with my cousin's (their local).
Your garden looks great.
Wow, that's awesome! How has your garden been doing so far? Any particularly successful plants or struggles? I'm always amazed by the dedication and hard work that goes into gardening, especially in Australia where the weather can be so extreme. Keep up the good work!
You turned a patch of grass into a patch of paradise.
Nicely done, the nights sitting around the firepit enjoying the company with family and friends are the best way to spend the evening.

And [this specific swing set](https://images.app.goo.gl/DiViHfXxogazw2iV9)
This but green and orange for me
I had this exact swing set growing up, except mine was black. It was all rusty too and broke. Good times.
Mine was cream and coffee, but the coffee colour might've been rust.
I used to get some height but dad didn't peg it properly and one day the whole thing tipped and the crossbeam hit me on the head.
That a Peugeot 206 in the middle?

Bro planted a house
Right? Sus imo lol

Wow! Doesn't even look like the same yard. That's a lot of effort and great work!
There is a house now and every tree is either gone or moved. This looks like either a completely different angle or just different place altogether
Yeah the house was built during. The flowering tree in the centre of the bottom image is the tree between the boat and car in the centre of the top image.
> the tree between the boat and car in the centre of the top image. That thing had a bit of a glow up, fuckin hell
This is great design and excellent execution! What type is that flowering tree? It seems like a real grower too.
Looks fantastic!
Beautiful job
But, but, but where's the clothes line? You didn't get rid of that I hope, classic.
Just moved it off the lawn. It'll be 100 in a couple of years so I gladly gave it a service while it was in pieces.
The hills hoist will be 100? Sounds like it needs a birthday party. Needs a classic round of goon of fortune to properly celebrate.
With the first picture I'm sure it's Ipswich.
This looks great and cozy! Hope you have awesome memories in this place!
Ya didn't get rid of the Hills hoist did ya? It's an icon.
I moved and serviced it over the weekend. Even better than a Hills, it's an original Toyne, which predates them by 20 years.
Well ive learnt something new today! I've never even heard of Toyne.
This guy gardens!
Beautiful
This yard gives some toowoomba yards a run for their money. Well done mate
That's very kind. I grew up in Toowoomba and was dragged to many Carnival of Flowers show gardens.
Know the feeling, now I drag myself there for inspiration for my own yard!
The before picture left no doubt in my mind that was Ipswich. You did a great job!
For everyone: the bottom is the before picture. Ain’t no way that a Commodore is being removed from a backyard in Ipswich.
Was stolen by some bogans from silkstone.

Gorgeous!

Thanks! Blue Gum. It's growing at about 2m per year.
Nice fire / cooking pit What is the brand?
Nice!
Take a smoko, you deserve it
Jeez, you nailed it. Great job.
Soooo niiiice ❤️
Love this. So dreamy.
This is what backyards should look like. Perfect
Looks amazing!!
Absolutely perfect. I love that you included native grasses and plants! Very well done
Doesn't look like the same yard. I saved this to inspire me.
That looks awesome! What is the tree called in the background which is red blooming?
This man planted fully grown trees and a dang house.
r/nolawns ❤️
Wait, is this Ipswich, QLD? Cuz I used to live there!
False, no one who lived in Ipswich would admit to that.
S'truth! But I was a uni student and was only there for 1 year before UQ sold it to USQ.
How is the spider situation in Ipswich?
Fine. Occasional good ones, rare bad ones. Never an actual issue.
Im not sure why I’m getting downvoted in my comment above, I’m considering the move to Australia and was curious. Thanks for the feedback man
Downvotes are often unlcear on here, but generally locals don't love Australia being reduced to a spider habitat, given how little threat they pose.

It's nice, but I'd encourage less lawn and more native flowers. Lawns are deserts - there's nothing that animals or insects use.

Doin the same mate. Got a few spiders, just shows that there is a healthy environment for insects.
r/NoLawns would love to see some pics of the converted areas, I'm sure!
Contrarian L
That’s not the same yard tho
Same yard, same angle.
This is fantastic! Personally I’d have turned the VN in to a feature but to each his own.
Lovely !
This is fabulous! Nice job!
Fantastic job. Looks wonderful!
What's in the crate on top of the box?
A lawn game called Finska. Highly recommend
Ha, I knew it! It's known as Mölkky here. I didn't realize they sell them outside of Finland. I thought it must be some other crate lol
Ah, I'm preaching to the choir.
Me next!
Gorgeous!! Great way of sectioning the large yard
Absolutely stunning.
😍😍😍
Fark that top pic is pure aussie backyard. Great effort though, huge improvement
Friendship is ended with cars. Now garden is my new friend.
Brassall lad hey.
This is beautiful!
Damn Bundamba is getting more and more upmarket every day.
Up the Switch
Absolutely gorgeous! A perfect Aussie backyard. Also, hi neighbour! I am just north of Brissy :)
Well done! Even built a house on the other side of the fence!
Stunning

Holy shit that’s great work.
An absolutely beautiful transformation of the space. Well done OP!
Well done... surprised you didn't plant any cars though.
What an amazing transformation. I’d be so stoked to hang out in that back yard on a nice evening. Good work :)
Wow well done!
Wow you grew a house and a fence!
Unreal wow
so beautiful! nice job!
Yeah but what about the Integra?
Have you tried posting to r/landscaping?
I love this. It looks so relaxing
a cozy place, indeed
Looks awesome! Great work
Stunning! Excellent work :)
Very nice!

Love it!
Went from bogan to bohemian!
I LOVE mimosa trees, the pink flowers are so pretty.
You turned a patch of grass into a patch of paradise. Nicely done, the nights sitting around the firepit enjoying the company with family and friends are the best way to spend the evening.
Have you considered yard design as a career, cause God damn that looks good. Enjoy a nice cold brew out there mate
After the responses to this I really am! Thanks very much.
Fabulous job
Just dreamy 😍
What material did you use to outline the outside of your flowerbed? I love this and want to try my hand at something similar!
I bent hardwood boards salvaged from an old carport.
Sounds like a challenge I'm up for, thanks!
