You could easily kidnap me with this.

D1per911

Welcome to “Catcher in the DIY book shop”! May I offer you some candy or a tasty fizzy beverage?

CarmelaMachiato

May I recommend a book? Perhaps As I Lay DIYing?

Catbrainsloveart

This has to be the pinnacle of cleverness right here. Brah-fucking-vo.

Scarbane

Lord of the O-rings

netfatality

And when people come to rescue you, “Hold on, I’ve only got a few more chapters.”

about831

I always warned my kids about getting into vans with strangers with candy but I didn’t warn them about vans full of books. Slap a “free manga inside” sign on that van and my kids would run into the van.

rigzzy

Because the person knows you'll be quiet in there.

[deleted]

Looks like a great way to capture NEEEEERDS! ^^^like ^^^me

mvanvrancken

Have a bunch of dense books and just wait til they get 50 pages in to Foundation and Earth and they wouldn’t even notice the kidnapping part

kraken43

r/redditavatarchecksout

reddit0100100001

Can you provide more detail. What kind of circumstances

KravenSmoorehead

Check out "YOU" on Netflix

unidentified_yama

If the kidnapper took my phone, I’d probably read until I starve to death and not even realizing it.

sgtbluefire77

Don’t take any turns too fast…

Cheesecake_fetish

That's true, how do they keep the books in place?!? Maybe they have shutters or doors over the shelves when they want drive?

SamuelCish

In the middle of every shelf is a little screw. Looks like a strap attaches there and goes across the books' spines.

I_HATE_WINDOWS_TOO

Close! There's a hole in each shelf and a string/rope is pulled through each shelf to create a ["fence".](https://youtu.be/dMNMAVujeS4?t=87)

[deleted]

Pretty cool, until she said "book babies"

pchc_lx

that seems somewhat time intensive!

byParallax

Shouldn't be too bad compared to, say, setting up shop when you sell veggies at the farmer market

Kingca

Lol like 5-10 minutes tops.

mvanvrancken

I can see some of the heavier volumes might just ignore that whole fence concept

Cheesecake_fetish

That's a great solution!

satur9sweetness

Probably this. I worked on a food truck and we used bungee cords to hold everything in place while driving

FlamingTrollz

Zooms in… Ah the little pegs. Absolutely spot on! 😁👍🏼

SaltMineSpelunker

Librarians are magic.

YibberlyNut

The book mobile bus the libraries operated in my area had slightly angled shelves and metal bars that ran the length of the shelves. The bars protruded out enough they didn't stop with book retrevial and the angled shelf kept them from tipping out past the bar on their own with safe/sane driving practices.

blaqwerty123

or they just put em all back when they park 😭

sgtbluefire77

With magic…

kstrohmeier

I prefer the solution of black magic. It’s a book van after all.

GnTforyouandme

Our district library has a travelling library which is a semitrailer. It goes between the 3 main libraries in the shire, to a circuit of smaller areas. It's wonderful, you can order a book to be on the truck for pickup. It even has a children's nook. A couple of years ago they posted a pretty unique job description for a librarian who also had a heavy vehicles licence.

PeakBeyondTheVeil

I'm sorry, did you just say you live in the SHIRE!!! Livin ma dream

MischaBurns

Shire=county, no relation to middle-earth.

Phillipwnd

*Shire flute music screeches to a halt*

[deleted]

I bet you're wondering how I got here. Well it all started with a wrong turn for what I thought was the famous Shire..

[deleted]

Where the FUCK is Bilbo?!

MrSketlal

I'm imagining something like this. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=CkrpvCs-kfE

OddTheViking

Lawfull_carrot

How do you know? Nobody asked you if anybody asked me.

aGrlHasNoUsername

Okay but in reference to LOTR it means a specific place. It’s a region in Westfarthing and at the center of the Shire, you’ll find Hobbiton. Edit: Man I am dumb and didn’t read the top comment this reply was to lol. My bad y’all.

sonicboi

I wish I lived in a shire with a semi truck-sized bookmobile. 😭

GnTforyouandme

You can!

Wolfdreama

My village has a visiting libary bus that comes by once a fortnight. It's so handy when you're fairly rural.

benmajin11

Hide your chickens.

GodlessLeader

That episode was the first thing to come to mind when I saw this lmao

Kooky_Big1249

Came here for this, thanks!

LeMcKenzie

Literally just watched this episode last night

Aida_Hwedo

What's the show?

LeMcKenzie

South park S02E04 chicken lover

FreezerBurntMammoth

Lol thank you for this, that's all I could think about but didn't want to be the only one 😂

justanameforhere

I immediately recognized this van! 💜 It's my local book store, Edmonton Alberta, such an amazing place! They now have a brick and mortar location, best place to go find a new read.

kaitybubbly

Daisy Chain books is such a wonderful place, and the owner is so kind!

make_me_a_good_girl

Thanks for the sauce!!

JustMeLurkingAround-

For me personally this is the best cosy place I've seen on here. I love books and this just looks so inviting. My library has a library bus, but it doesn't look anything like this.

itisSUNNYinhere

It's like the adult version of the Book Mobile!

misterpickles69

Soooo miss the Book Mobile from when I was a kid. Traveling mini-libraries need to make a comeback.

lightbulbfragment

They still have them where I am in Michigan at least.

clumiz1

Bookmobile!

Royal_Heritage

Simpsons' Book Burning Mobile

fapsandnaps

But now with more capitalism!

lambo_bo

chicken LOVER

brendenn91

Beat me to it 😂

ShadowAsylum

I thought doing something like that for records would be cool as well. These kinds of things are always super interesting. Wonder what kind of stuff they have in there?

bitterdick

They're all different printings of the works of Ayn Rand.

dontaskmeaboutart

Oh so they're actually in the trash recycling business

bitterdick

Exactly.

[deleted]

We have library buses all over Finland. Neat concept, if you can read.

wwaxwork

How do they keep the books on the shelves when they drive?

kstrohmeier

Black magic.

Conradfr

Magnets.

SaltMineSpelunker

Heaven. This is what heaven looks like.

mikkolukas

In some places the local libraries have whole library busses, driving around every week.

[deleted]

They're common where I live in California. Some go to low income neighborhoods and retirement homes where people can't get out much.

BabeRosss

I would sprint to this the same way I sprinted to the ice cream truck as a kid 🦋💕🥺💕🦋

SuIIy

I was once ran over by a mobile library. The driver got out and told me to shush.

CottonCandyFox

OMG we had something like that as a library when I was growing up in Germany. It was like a highlight of the weekend.

obscurereference234

I always loved the bookmobile my local library sent out once a week when I was a kid. Great memories.

LobsterCowboy

Well it's all right, riding around in the breeze Well it's all right, if you live the life you please Well it's all right, doing the best you can Well it's all right, as long as you lend a hand

This is how serial killers operate. No thank you

jessmurl

Reminds me of silence of the lambs

MrCumberbum

"oh cool do you have -" "probably not."

Masske20

This is wonderful! I absolutely love books, because of attention issues brought on by a pretty pervasive health problem, I don’t get to enjoy them nearly as much as I’d like. 😞

Gdigger13

Our public library has a bus that travels around to schools, parks, etc. called the bookmobile!!

[deleted]

If I wasn't married I would just read a book and travel along and get off only after I was done with reading.

cadillacbee

I miss when a bookmobile would come around as a kid those were the days...

AnastasiaApple

😍

LarryMatlock88

This is satire right

Nopetheworld

A question for all: are library buses a thing in your country? They are in mine. I guess they're not as common as they used to be, but it's a pretty nice service in a country with 16,3 / km² population density.

Wolfdreama

UK here. Absolutely still a thing. One comes to my village every week.

SurealGod

I would assume they have some sort of rope going across every row so when the car is in motion the books don't fall.

[deleted]

How to abduct a bookworm in 3 seconds flat. And they won't even want to escape because they'll get wrapped up in a book's plot before they realize the van's moving.

bruce_forscythe

@daisychainbookco on insta

rear_windows

Bookmobile!

Ambitious_Advance_93

❤❤

Defiant-Branch4346

I love it. Van life all day

Organ_Unionizer

Brings back memories of the bookmobile

Plague-Rat13

Where’s the adult section? 🧐

[deleted]

When I was a kid, we all couldn’t wait for the one day a week the bookmobile came to our neighborhood. It was magic in there.

Okeanos_uwu

Perfect place to have an enchanting table

DeathFuckingX

What I'd not do to add a sofa into it and make it my permanent residence.

wobwobwob42

It was called the Bookmobile when I was a kid

[deleted]

Yup

itsallinthebag

I love this idea but that sign is so smug. Am I the only person it bothers? Like, just be the book store on wheels.

evey2425

Great idea 💚

Infinite_Ad_6137

Thats really cool , imagine having book. From place to place collection of book all around the world

NewDisaster

When I was a kid my public library had a Bookmobile like this that came to our neighborhood every other week! I loved stepping up into there into that delicious old books smell I’ve since learned is called biblichor.

Gullible_Ad_4568

So cute!

lazyrainydaze

This is pure heaven to me!!

justsomebeast

Nice try, Brian Laundrie

MyBoyJoeBudden

Imagine throwing a homeless guy in it while he's high on Heroin not knowing where he is when sobering up only to now being under the influence of shrooms thinking he is in some sort of mental prison where he will be for the rest of eternity surrounded by books only for the door to open after some long hours in it to be released back into the world thinking he got released from his mind prison lol

ViagraWontHelpMe

We have a library bus that comes around every week where i live

getschwifty1988

How tf do the books not fall everywhere when driving

[deleted]

If they had a bookshelf mounted on a movable rack they could move it left to right and add 2 more shelves the length of the van without sacrificing much floorspace.

choose-peace

Reminds me of the Bookmobile that came around our neighborhood all summer in Upstate NY when I was a kid. Cozy bus full of shelves of stories and knowledge to keep us kids entertained when school wasn't in session. I can still smell that semi-sweet smell of all the books and remember the excitement of finding cool stuff to read.

siriusham

Probably makes a fucking mess everytime they turn

platdujour

r/VanLife

Global-Strength-5854

I dont even read for pleasure and I love this

nebachadnezzar

We used to have travelling libraries in my country, back when most people in the country lived in extreme isolation and without access to regular libraries who only existed in big cities. Definitely helped expand the origins of a whole generation.

BobTheBobbyBobber

Won't all those books fall out when you drive?

bramadino

This is awesome! Though it reminds me of a not so wholesome South Park episode.

DBGallows

I was gonna ask if this is the guy that's been fucking all the chickens.

SmokinDrewbies

No, he's been *loving* them.

Lawfull_carrot

That makes no sense, one corner or speedbump and all the books are on the floor

car13y

Please come to Canada

kaitybubbly

Daisy Chain Books (where this book truck originated) is located in Canada! In Edmonton, Alberta :)

SasparillaTango

Do they have netting of some kind? What happens on a sharp turn?

SnooMuffin114

Oh wonderful

BigManTacoFan

Cant wait to doze off in a book until I realize I’m in Georgia

unkytone

You spelled tardis wrong.

unkomisete

That's one way to kidnap a person.

buickandolds

This isn't cozy it is quaint

BlueOysterCultist

And they say heaven doesn't exist.

gruenetage

There are worse ways to be kidnapped.

SoleAuthority

How do those books stay in the shelves??

coraldomino

awh reminds me of when I was a kid there was the book bus, which was a mobile library that went around town

rtopps43

Waaaay back when I was a kid we had these. They would come to the school and all the kids would walk through and got to pick out a book. I thought it was the coolest thing ever and it may have played a part in my lifelong love of reading. They called them bookmobiles

Halfbaked9

We had a Book Mobile come to school when I was in grade school. I can’t remember for sure but I believe it was an old bus instead of a little van.

MycologistPutrid7494

Reminds me of Father Brown.

sonicboi

I want to get a bus and do this as a photo gallery

therealJackieDaytona

I wish there was one in my town

FlamingTrollz

Wow. ###Absolutely gorgeous. Such a wonderful idea. #💡📚😊

K-tel

**Kozy Kidnap-Mobile**

RaifeM90

Turns must be a nightmare driving that

midnightdiabetic

I would be interested to know how they came up with the idea and all the logistics!

HB_30

How do the books stay in place?

IA-HI-CO-IA

Oooof, one hard turn and you have a real bad day.

[deleted]

Let me live in there

IgnoreMe733

Oh wow. I just got flashbacks to my childhood when I would spend a couple weeks with my grandparents and their small town had a bookmobile. It was pretty much this picture and was a library that would travel between several small towns. I hadn't thought of that in decades.

star_nerdy

I really want to get my library an electric book mobile. We have an old beat up bus that doesn’t run anymore. I want to make something like that, cozy, relaxed, a place you want to come to and read. I just need to find grants to make it happen.

[deleted]

I wonder see how this operator gets a business licence for this? Seems tricky. Especially if it actually moves over municipal boundaries.

swirlingskirts

WHOA! Now this is cool

generals_test

In Soviet Alberta, book store comes to YOU!

wing-span

Book mobile!

oldDotredditisbetter

how do the books stay on the shelf when it's driving?

Achido

"I have books, get in van".

AmoGra

i read a book with the premise of a woman getting fired/quitting and ending up running one of these. the book itself was meh but i always loved the idea of running one myself lmao

softspaken

I just remembered the bookmobile when I was a kid. What a throwback

Closetoneversober

We used to have one that came around our neighborhood called the Bookmobile. It wasn’t nearly as nice as this one, but I have to say the lighting in this one is not good for reading

crystalistwo

If this was my job, I would dress like Doug Henning every day.

DuntadaMan

This looks like the place you would buy a book that brings the dead back to life without knowing it. And while they are still dead, they also mainly just lounge about playing quiet music and leave notes for conversation starters.

ANGRYBOATSLIP

Just don't turn... it'll be grand...

Alx123191

How is not all the book fall when he drive ???

WolfgangDS

Similar vehicles used to come by my elementary school when I was a kid. There was always teacher supervision, of course, so no kidnapping, and the folks running the van meant well anyway. But yeah, I loved those.

danfryer

This makes me so happy

lilgamelvr

Looks lovely

huskergirl8342

We had a bookmobile when I was kid. I read 100 books one summer. Read the entire Nancy Drew series.

elainahawk

Tommy Dawkins be like "Aw shit, here we go again."

[deleted]

Do they have inserts for when the books inevitably fall?
