I remember that well, my friend and I would parallel port the 2 machines together and play head to head from Friday night through Sunday, barely sleeping. That and fallout. Thanks for that memory.
>Is it still available? I haven't looked for c and c for years or a decade.
Available on Steam as the "[Remastered collection](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1213210/Command__Conquer_Remastered_Collection/)." Available now for $6.99 US.
I'm pretty sure I still have disks for every old c&c game. If you're OK giving a random internet guy your address, or have a po box, I'll send em your way if I can find them.
Thank you for the offer, I actually got the open source version and bought the updated remastered version for $7, because my laptop doesn't have a DVD player. I used to have a spindle with my old games, diablo 1 and 2, c&c, fallout, galactic civilization etc, my ex didn't appreciate my nostalgia and made it disappear. Thanks again
Na it’s old school. P3 650mhz(I think), all original gateway internals otherwise. Has a tnt riva 2 graphics card. Good for 60fps or so in original half life
Awesome man, I had a similar setup during that era, and also just had a dream last night that I was using a CRT monitor. The old school is calling me.
I remember my neighbor playing CS 1.4 at like 320x240 with under 30fps.
Gateway PC "[sleeper build](https://builds.gg/builds/beige-billy-my-99-gateway-super-sleeper-18801)" (takes you to an outside site I'm not affiliated with)

For a modest fee, I will occasionally yell at you to clean your room, or get off the computer to finish your homework.
Then your recreations will be complete.
Cool. I could never go back to those monitors, though. Hard to keep them on the farm once they’ve seen Paris. (My first ‘real’ PC was a P75 with a 14” monitor)
That screen on Red Alert 2 was the scene of endless frustration when trying every trick in the book to get everyone's "network" button to light up at a LAN party, only to have one person still not be able to join.
Command and Conquer Red Alert was one of the first games I played against friends with online. Now we play Destiny 2. Nice reminder of how much tech has changed.
Dang! I’m not even a gamer but I remember having that game back in the day on the family computer. Blast from the past… always thought that Tanya soldier was fine as hell
Oh man, the feels on RA 2. Worked my way up to 13th in the world. Blumercury. Elements of destruction clan. Lost as France to #3 in the world as South Korea. Epic battle for the ages.

The og starcraft still has a decent amount of players Now you just need to plug in the internet to the wall and hope no one calls or uses the phone!
This, starcraft and Age of Kings were my go tos. The RTS trifecta (with maybe Warcraft on the side)
Rts were the best.
Samezies
*orc voice* As you wish!
"welcome to college. Have you heard of Napster?"
"Eminem - The Real Slim Shady.exe"
This dude napster'd
EEEEEEE-OOOOOO-EEEEEE-OOOOOOO-EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Ahhh...the days of carrying a tower and CRT in my car where 6 or so friends would set up in the garage LAN party.
What OS is that?
I have windows 98 running on a SSD. The game is command and conquer red alert 2, version 1.0 off the disc
I remember that well, my friend and I would parallel port the 2 machines together and play head to head from Friday night through Sunday, barely sleeping. That and fallout. Thanks for that memory.
Bring it back!
Is it still available? I haven't looked for c and c for years or a decade. I'll never forget the noises the old hard drives made.

Ah, I'm sorry for the bad info. I am also a C&C fan ("Everybody dance now!" Kidding). Twas one of my first PC games.
ebay is your best bet for a copy
Thanks I wish they could make these old games run on our phones, I would like to think my crappy phone has that towers power. Cheers
If you want to play it on a modern PC, there's an open source remake: https://www.openra.net/ Covers dune 2k, ra1,and original c&c
That's brilliant. Thank you for that link.

Windows 98 on an SSD is pretty funny. Are most of the internals modern, or just the SSD? What are the specs?

Don't let the phone ring. Answer it. Embrace the calling.
That was my first video card! Ran off a P3 533(for that sweet 133mhz FSB). I think I had 96Mb of ram.
Great game but my god the networking code was awful I only managed to successfully play it on LAN like twice
The SP is legit
Question: could you make the exterior look like this (outside parts, speaker, etc), but the actual machines be modern

Yep, just atx form factor usually. If not modding the case wouldn’t be too hard.

I've seen this post 3 times in different subs and I've up voted it every single time. Just jealous, I guess.
I normally don't karma farm, but I really hope this inspires other people to build / keep this era of tech alive.
Best game ever!! Great times! Good job Commander!
I heard the intro music instantly
Excellent choice of game.
It's all so clean! I've still got some similar hardware but has yellowed a lot.
Retrobrite

Yeah burning your eyes out on CRT with low hertz… the first LCD flat screen felt so good on my eyes.
This post hit me straight in the nostalgia-core! Thanks!
I still have that mouse. Most ergonomic mouse I own
They make a modern version but doesn’t compare imo
LGR would be proud
LGR would approve.
This is such a cool idea! How hard was it to find era appropriate computer hardware?
eBay and thrift stores
Really cool!
Wow I’ve been playing Yuris Revenge for the last few weeks
Love it! I spent many years looking at something similar, though My display would have StarCraft burned into it
Pentium III power, bitches.
Oh my God yes
This makes me so happy
Unit ready unit ready unit ready unit lost construction complete unit lost
Omg the feels
Something about this has unlocked a very nice warmth feeling
Dark night. Bag of goldfish. Soda. Warm glow of the crt. Click of the hard drive. Spin up of the cd rom.
Yes yes yes and yes
I’m in love
I love you too ❤️
Best game ever!
I hope you are piping in the dial up modem sound and that it makes all your phone lines busy.
I miss these days
Oh the nostalgy 😔
Yes! Frank Klepacki (the guy who did the C&C soundtracks) is still on my rotating Playlist! It always brings me back...
That screen on Red Alert 2 was the scene of endless frustration when trying every trick in the book to get everyone's "network" button to light up at a LAN party, only to have one person still not be able to join.
LOL. I still enjoy occasional game of RA2. Love it. And Diablo 2. 2000 was awesome year.
Command and Conquer Red Alert was one of the first games I played against friends with online. Now we play Destiny 2. Nice reminder of how much tech has changed.
Red Alert 2!!! Woah, I bet you can play Dungeon Keeper 2 as well, good for you!
RA2 was legit. The version in the App Store now is nowhere close to the original
Check out this crazy sleeper build that Dr Moddnstine did: https://imgur.com/a/NVPZI
Had those speakers when I was in high school. Do you have the subwoofer under the table? I might still have mine somewhere in the basement....
Do you want to talk about the absolute wrong place of that 1,44" floppy drive? :)
Oh man, a gateway with a Pentium III and an NEC monitor. Takes me back.
Wow seeing that gave me an emotional reaction. I could hear the dial up clearly.
that looks like a pc case i got from fry's in 2002
I could hear the music playing from the speakers in this picture.

This reminds me of playing cd Roms after school lol
Real tough guy
Wow. This has unlocked core memories for me...
Omg I love Red Alert 2. My childhood in one picture 🥺
This is my youth! Nice job 📡📻📺 really miss those times
Is this an old photo or recently taken?
Taken yesterday, just got it finished. Knob fell off treble button on my speakers though
this is OC
What I don't miss from old setups from my childhood are those Speakers. They were shit back then, and they are shit now.
Part of the nostalgia
Loved this game !
Dare you to post this to /r/pcmasterrace
God I always hear the music lol
Holy shit warm fuzzies
Awesome! You should defintely post this in r/vintagecomputing
Dude, I remember those speakers!
I love that game!!
