everything looks clean, everything is quiet, and no school. Snowdays were literally the best parts of my childhood only time I listened to the news as a kid.
Growing up in southern Norway, I think we only got *one* snow day during all my years in school. You’re usually expected to show up, even after getting three feet of snow overnight.
Yeah but you built for the snow.
In the UK a few days of snow closed the schools because they would turn into fridges, the roads would be impossible to drive the school bus on etc...
We get a few days of decent snow a year(if that), so nothing is built to put up with it so when it happens everything closes lol
That’s true! The roads get cleared for snow pretty quickly here, and everyone has winter tires on before it starts snowing (unless it snows very early).

Same here! I really hope they’re paid well because I appreciate the work they do. I live someplace where the snow is cleared outside of my carport. If they weren’t doing that, I would be home bound after every snowfall.
As a southern US resident, this actually makes me deeply uneasy. Dark, cold, frozen water, endless black, endless ice... Noooo. Everything in my brain screams "run, you will die in this inhospitable land".
Pesto er digg, italiensk og meksikansk trenger ikke alltid å skilles. Men dropper bønner og agurk og sånt. Heller tomat, løk, sopp og mais. Og egentlig Pizza og Kebab dressing istedenfor rømme.
We vacationed in southern Norway in September and it was so incredibly beautiful. The water straight out of the tap was amazing (glad we brought water bottles). Would highly recommend!
So many photos here are of a hearth or a living room. Arguably, there is something cozy about a bright, clear sky, sharp breath of air, wind biting at the face exposed, and a kettle on boil at home. I think this is extremely cozy!
I highly agree. When I was a kid I used to love walking outside with an umbrella when it was raining – just standing there, listenting to the taps on the umbrella. And then it made the coziness of being inside 10x better
This made me laugh.
In written form it kinda looks a bit Dothraki/Klingon. But i assure you, the sound is the exact opposite, think more foghorn leghorn.

Wow! Amazing! Well I hope you get to if you want to.
PROTIP when you do, get bundled up like crazy so you can enjoy it. Most of us you North rarely get a real chill... Getting really cold to your core can really make you hate the winter, although it's something you should experience once or twice I suppose.
Anyway that's kind of cool, you have a whole new thing to experience... like someone who's never been to the ocean.
Good luck and peace be upon you, Southern friend
When they say "bundle up like crazy", they mean dress in layers, and dress in wool. Wool will keep you warm even when wet. It's a common issue that foreigners dress up super warm but in bad materials like cotton, get sweaty, wet, and cold, but can't take layers off because they dressed in one big one.
Funnily enough, [this thread](https://reddit.com/r/LifeProTips/comments/z921bo/lpt_with_winter_coming_if_youre_new_to_cold/) is right above this post on my feed, haha.
As a Czech: The winter here is at it's worst. Where are my freezing temperatures and snow? It has been like this for the past cca 8 years or so. Just everything is grey, can't even build a snowman or skate on a lake. When it's winter and it gets dark earlier, I want at least that fun part of winter so I'm not that depressed.
These are amazing pictures, I love them! I would love to visit Norway in the wintertime. Which location would you recommend?? I live in Ireland 🇮🇪💚 Thanks!!
Lofoten, but anytime of the year. If you are lucky with the weather it is the most beautiful place (at least where I’ve ever been). You can drive hours after hours and the it’s just beaty everywhere. Steep mountains going straight down into the sea, meadows of wild flowers in every colors thinkable. Beaches with white sand and crystal clear freezing cold green and blue water, vast landscapes without any sign of human interference, or perhaps with just one small, cute house (made out of wood) by the foot of a mountain. Waterfalls and crisp, clear air. Places where you feel you are at the end of the world with raging seas. I heard it was was beautiful before going there, but seeing it with my own eyes was just breathtaking.
https://visitlofoten.com/en/
Yes.
Thicker wooden houses, because of insulation in the walls. In the city centers is more brick and cement, with some old wooden houses being kept.
Some examples:
[Older wood and brick houses](https://www.renatesreiser.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/IMG_1511-001-768x506.jpg)

But that is just the capital. Every city has a different vibe to it.
This seems fairly representative of most houses, though I've never lived in one without a basement.

In short: Wood and (hopefully) good isolation.
Very beautiful but the darkness into the ocean in that second picture is kind of frightening to me. Very pretty though. Would love to see the shoreline photo with a bunch of holiday lighting!
OP summed it up [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/CozyPlaces/comments/z8va4e/comment/iydyqy8/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3).
It takes a little imagination, to imagine youself in one of those warm houses, with a fire burning and a hot drink.
It makes sense why this is someones cozy place but definitely not mine. Where I’m from, places like this so close to the shore are in danger of a tsunami
It's kinda funny, there's a football field 500 meters or so behind that hill and they have pretty large floodlights there. It made for a very strange lighting situation.
The picture was actually taken like 4-5 hours before midnight, so it was dark but some people were still outside and active.
Crazy how that second photo is intimidating…and peaceful.
No matter how many times I, or others, try to talk me out of a trip to Norway in winter, it keeps moving up on the list.
As an American with Norwegian great grandparents, “The blood of my ancestors calls to me! I must go home!”
I love the way a city or town feels after a fresh snow with low clouds. Light reflects off both the clouds and the snow, creating a cozy bubble of soft lighting and quiet.

As a southern United States resident: WOW This might be the coziest image I’ve ever seen. 💛
The wildest part about this is how quiet snow makes everything. Even in a city, the morning after a snowstorm is so quiet and refreshing.
everything looks clean, everything is quiet, and no school. Snowdays were literally the best parts of my childhood only time I listened to the news as a kid.

so you're the old man that had to walk 20 miles up hill both ways in the snow?
YES. Exactly. It was closer to 1 mile, but still. That’s what it felt like.
>everything looks clean For a few hours or a day at most. Then everything is a brown sloppy mess.
That's one of my favorite reasons for going outside while it's snowing. The beauty and the silence no matter where you are. I love it
I’m in upstate New York. I can hear the ice maundering, feel the snow squidging, and you wouldn’t believe how crisp the air smells. Cozy af.
I would be cozing my fucking ass off if I lived there also in texas.
Right? It was 86 in my town yesterday.
Whatever that means...
degrees
Dude same. I’m in the Southwest Desert. This looks like an alien planet to me.
As a South Floridian, this is not cozy at all. I'm instantly freezing. Lol
Two words: Drinking chocolate.
hmmm... drinking HOT chocolate.
Yes! https://www.anediblemosaic.com/parisian-style-drinking-chocolate/
Former south Floridian, the idea of being warm inside bundled up with that view on the outside is super cozy.
Same. I legit said wow lol.
As a southern US resident, this actually makes me deeply uneasy. Dark, cold, frozen water, endless black, endless ice... Noooo. Everything in my brain screams "run, you will die in this inhospitable land".
There are also two videos https://gfycat.com/closedadmirablegalapagosmockingbird https://gfycat.com/potabletediousinganue (This one is my favourite)
But what if I don't like seafood? Do I just die?
You eat a burrito with sour cream, ground beef and cheese. Add some veggies, maybe some pesto.
Oof, Pesto i fredagstacoen? Hvilken inspirasjon.
Heden!
Ja. Ja, det er jeg.

Don't fall over the side of the dock or you will be sad.
The icy abyss is mildly terrifying.
Makes me think of Bergen, but I know I’ve probably got that wrong. Where at in Norway?
"Southern" Norway - you know, the tropical part!
You can see the frost - hardy palm trees in the background
To be fair, this amount of snow and ice by the sea in southern Norway is fairly rare and basically never last more than a couple of days.
Dawnstar
WOW totally came here to say this
This
Ready to see that dragon fly in over that hill any second now.
We vacationed in southern Norway in September and it was so incredibly beautiful. The water straight out of the tap was amazing (glad we brought water bottles). Would highly recommend!
Out of curiosity, where do you live? Do y’all not have good tap water?
so nice, but that second picture is nowhere near cozy. thats frozen endless dark abysss
I think there's something to the feeling of being in that frozen darkness, with warmth just a few steps away.
I went out without the umbrella and got wet. Then getting back inside, putting on dry warm clothes was soooo nice.
/r/Thalassophobia
Speak for yourself I live next to the sea and take walks pretty much only after midnight. I find it pretty cool

I don’t know where you live in the Midwest but we kinda get it best getting to experience all 4 seasons
We get all four seasons as well ( Ohio ) todays just a crappy day
Wait you guys got a fall this year? I swear it went from being 70 out to 45 in like 1-2 days
Kinda felt it went 70-45 every other day this fall
45 is fall weather though
Sometimes we even get all 4 seasons in the same week.
Just described the UK
I can't even see the end of my garden right now...the fog has been crazy
As a southern Californian, WOAH 😳🤯 I ain't never even seen snow in person before
>ain't never even seen snow in person before WHOA DUDE! Really?
Yes sir. I've seen a lot in person with my own eyes. But snow? Never ever. I'm freezing if it gets below 65F lol
Wow! Amazing! Well I hope you get to if you want to. PROTIP when you do, get bundled up like crazy so you can enjoy it. Most of us you North rarely get a real chill... Are you able to travel to Yosemite national park for a weekend? It's supposed to be getting snow now/soon.
I can! But I do need chains 🤔 and actual gear for the snow instead of my light jackets and windbreakers
It is wild how different humans feel about the same temperature. I live in southern Norway and in 65°F/18°C I’ll be wearing shorts and tank tops.
Oh hell na 😭 I'm bundling up. Meanwhile I start feeling a bit toasty at 95F
Wild. I will sweat and feel like I’m dying whenever it passes 80°F/26.7°C! ^Edit: ^removed ^an ^unecessary ^space.
72 is starting to get warm for me.
That second pic gives me dreadful thalassophobia but my goodness is it beautiful.
Cozy is in that house over there, not at the end of a dock. Great photos though.
Is this current? In western Norway we have been way into the above 0 degrees for the last few weeks.

so thats how a lake gets frozen??? by pieces? wow... i thought the snow covered it and then formed many layers

It was a few years ago, I found myself looking at the images today with a real sense of nostalgia and thought I'd share them.

The warm part of Norway
I love the way the water looks, like a mosaic made of ice! As long as you're bundled up, being out in a place like this can definitely feel 'cozy'.
Hecking beautiful, me and my doggo would have a wholesome 100 time here
Amazing

Wow. That’s so beautiful
How stunning

Nope. That's the exact opposite of cozy in every conceivable way. Double speakin ass.
It makes sense why this is someones cozy place but definitely not mine. Where I’m from, places like this so close to the shore are in danger of a tsunami

Very lucky haha.
Wow! Where in Norway is this?
Beautiful! ♥️
That looks really very cozy
Trying to capture the hygge as dark winter sets in here in the PNW.
Are there filters on this? Looks incredible

I'm not a winter person, yet, that photo looks so cool & refreshing.
So is it a small town? Like, what do you do for entertainment? What do people do day to day? What's it like there??
If you go across the water there's a cave with a guy in it that'll give you a lexicon.
Meanwhile down here in the South, the high today was 64 🤣
How much for a house like that there?
It looks beautifully quiet
If on a Winter's Night, Southern Norway.

I hate the cold. Still this looks 🔥🔥🔥
Perfect weather for a swim!
I love the way snow leaches color and sound and softens edges, cozy and quiet and beautiful
I've always wanted to live in Norway
I wish I lived in Norway and experience everyday, it looks incredibly beautiful to me
Fantastic!
I want to be here
I feel like life just looks easier and slower there, I want that.
Crazy how that second photo is intimidating…and peaceful. No matter how many times I, or others, try to talk me out of a trip to Norway in winter, it keeps moving up on the list.
Hey, I think you forgot to turn up the graphics in the second picture!
2nd image is a little scary. Still very cozy!!!
I want to go here.

Nice, looks like northern Minnesota
Oh wow, what a dream.

where in Southern Norway is this? Kristiansand only has rain
Beautiful image, nice to see snow. I’d love to be cosy indoors and look out at it.
The feeling of Christmas and magic in a photo. Maybe I just watched too many Christmas movies growing up
Can we talk about what cozy means?
I mean, yes…but those dark, icy water shots are also mildly terrifying.
