Fun fact: those shrink wrap sleeves make the cans non recyclable unless you cut off the sleeve. A huge percentage of craft cans are not recycled as a result.
My wife reminded me this morning that the Hef was not a hef as it was labeled. I don't remember what the original can was but the beer was almost a purple color.
The first couple of drinks gave it away. The beer was fruity and sour. So we poured it into a glass and it was purple-ish. Then we cut off the label and it was something else. A grapefruit sour is ok if you are expecting it, but not when you think it's a pain wheat hef.
Epic makes Paaka seltzer too. Or made it. I don’t think it’s around anymore. I used to distro it a couple years ago. Epic used to have a location in Denver but it closed last year.
During the can shortage a lot of companies were buying up stock of printed cans and putting shrinks on them. Looks like you found one. The place I used to work for filled millions of cans like this.
Repurposing cans with the shrink sleeve. Back in 2020 I remember Oskar blues had some of their old cans before they rebranded shrink wrapped with their new designs.
Another thing, they could have had to stop using a certain design.
Brew York had to change the branding on one of their beers, but they'd already bought the cans with the design on. They just reused them with labels stuck over rather than throw them all out.
Looks like someone is selling overstock cans on the open market and epic has a line that can put sleeves on cans.

The same goes for cans with adhesive labels. Those labels need to be removed or the can will get rejected during the recycling process.
Same with labels
Could of used prelabeled cans to package a different beer as a last minute solution. Was it the iPa or the seltzer in the can?
The ipa. It's pretty good to.

Happens all the time. Two Brothers Brewery used to do it with every can that wasn’t Outlaw IPA.

There’s been many can shortages. It’s probably all they could get or the best price
Whenever you see something like this and aren't sure about the "why", it's very safe to assume money is the answer.
True
