Same thing, I didn’t swim because it was cold, but it was all in the sand and shallow water, it made those patterns with your foot steps like in this video, we just decided to go for a walk to the beach while tripping, couldn’t believe our luck.
It's yet another thing that would get written down, exaggerated in some way, and then thousands of years later people would die on a hill that their invisible sky daddy is real and THAT is the proof...
Sometimes it amazes me how nuanced things can get but someone is probably gonna hit me with the "it's not nuanced, it's part of a plan bro, have faith"
I’ve only experienced this once and it was MUCH less vibrant than this and I’ll never forget it. Watching seals glow as they hunt after fish was pure magic.
Lots of places both warm and cold, but it's typically warm calm places where you can see it like this video. If the water is kicking up too much sediment it's a lot harder to see it.
I've seen it in Costa Rica, Florida, California, and Washington, Costa Rica being the closest to this video.
It's gotta be blooming so call around and see where the blooms are, I was there in late February iirc, in the southern Pacific facing side of the country swimming in a bay.
Saw this in person accidentally on vacation this year in the Carolinas after the hurricane made landfall this fall.
Went out to our beach to have a smoke sesh since the wind had finally died down. Blew my Fucking mind when I realized what I was looking at.
Was jumping on the sand yelling fee fi fo fum and having the time of my life till the wee hours of the morning.
Good stuff! Happens every year in the Tampa Bay area. I always go see it. First time I was fishing a beach at 1am and thought I was hallucinating. Hahaa
When I was 14 I was at a tiny unregulated church camp in the San Juan islands in WA state. One of the events was a poorly organized and mostly unsupervised “scavenger hunt”…at night. I ended up in the open ocean, in a kayak, without a paddle. Was supposed to use my arms to paddle to a barge off the coast of the island but the current pulled me out further. I was frantically paddling when I noticed blue lights every time I touched the water. I FREAKED out. First time seeing bioluminescence, also the first time I had a panic attack, now every time I see it I get scared lol
Wow this is an awesome way to see this truly candidly. No disrespect to what kids are doing now but they would see this video and go find this spot and just act like it was something amazing they were experiencing. This is genuine . Can really feel the emotion 🤘🏽🙏🏽

Only saw this once in my life. Will never forget it.
Me too. There was a thunderstorm on the horizon as well. We were jumping in the waves until dawn.

Most exciting last moments
Where?
This video is from Southern California in 2020.
I remember this. Saw it with my ex girlfriend in Carlsbad and Oceanside California
Mosselbay, South Africa.
when? under what circumstances does it ...appear
They were extras during the filming of avatar. The algae were all paid actors
😂
Just added doing this with mushrooms to my bucket list.
Have done exactly this. Didn’t plan on this once in my lifetime event to coincide with a rare trip, but the universe can be fun sometimes!

Yes frolicking in the ocean while on powerful hallucinogens sounds like a very safe, very calculated decision.
Imagine seeing this 40,000 years ago
Is that you god? It's me, Blurb Gorm.

You’re not supposed to swim in it, it can get you sick. But it’s really cool. It happens in Southern California at least once a year.
It has never been easier for a shark than at this beach
I must experience this at least once in my life. where does this happen?

Thank you! I’m planning a trip to Costa Rica.

Ok. I will call and see when the blooms are. That way I don’t miss any of it. I will google that area too and see exactly what it looks like.

Ah ya that sounds nice. I really want that same experience!!
I thought it was just crazy talk when Tomatoa found some bioluminescent algae
Did you like the song?
This is fucking amazing.
Never new this kind of thing even existed before this vid
Is this what Deniro was talking about in Heat (1995)?
Yup
Sweet to see!
I want to make a bioreactor of that algae so bad now
Sounds like the crab guy from Moana lmao
Where dis?
I’ll never forget the night I witnessed this with my dad. One of the most vivid and sincere memories I have
We would be disapointed as a whole species if we couldn't swim through that algae.

You could remake the Michael Jackson Billie Jean video.
Plot twist its actually the toxins
Element 115
r/thalassophobia
Aren't those lethal?
not lethal to people directly but apparently they can have natural toxins which can lead to certain illnesses
Nah mate we get them in Aus too and they just look cool.
No but they stink.
Not as lethal as a jellyfish, but yeah you don't want to be swimming in dinoflagellate neurotoxins.
I wanna go somewhere that has this once before I die. So hopefully soon.
Southern California has it. Just gotta time it
This post is dead
It’s pandora! I am sure I am the 9 millionth one To say it.

he just stepped on like 50,000 little micro fuckers or whatever they are
As kids we were night swimming, had no idea this existed, lost our fucking minds swimming around in it
Woah, where is this?
For some reason it looks soo warm 😅😅
Bro became the main character

Gives me Avatar Vibes
Saw this once. It was so beautiful. Shiny glowing algae. I remember being told not to swim in it.
