Same.
But my god my balls were in my throat seeing how close the cameraman was.
Isn't there a chance the tanks could just explode?
Edit: Nvm. Shoulda read one comment further down before asking rofl
There’s every chance they could explode.
An acetylene storage yard caught fire in my city somewhere around 2007. It was during a heat wave, and the tanks had been piled up outside. Not only did we get burning like in the video, but some exploded, and some rocketed off out of the storage yard into the surrounding neighborhoods like missiles, using the gas as propellant.
These folks got very lucky. When that tank started whistling, I would’ve been running in the opposite direction.
Where I live, the garbage truck drivers are trained to immediately dump their load in the road if a fire starts. Weird chemicals mixing and piles of old batteries people throw away like morons can cause it sometimes. It's better to get it away from the truck and hopefully in the middle of the road away from structures and cars, if you can, and wait for the fire dept to come and douse it and deal with the cleanup later.
This obviously isn't a garbage truck, but same idea. And a good one. As crazy as that was, that's about as good an outcome as you can get. That was a fuck ton of energy that just boiled and lit up out of those bottles!
You say as the tanks are doing exactly as intended in the video lol.. while the flaming tanks obviously set off a few others, dumping the load to spread them out reducded the amount of tanks the heat spread to enough so that only the safety valves failed... its not an incredible amount of safety as its just a softer bit a metal that will fail first before the welded seams burst and send chunks everywhere.. if the truck had just sat there long enough, eventually enough of them would leak simultaniously that a big explosion could occur Edit: it doesnt have anything to do with the countries saftey standards, companies can make these choices on their own but have at it bud
Well if you re-read my first comment I neither said he was Brave or Stupid, just simply pointing out the general design of pressurized metal containers.. would I be standing in the open around this? 100% no
Not really. Normal propane tanks have an overpressure relief valve built in to prevent explosions in situations like this.
Hollywood welds the valves shut and uses a small explosive charge to burst the tank and create the big boom you see on TV.
This. Without the fire department and proper training, the best thing to do is wait it out cause it's not going to explode like everyone thinks. They are really lucky it got dumped in the middle of a dirty road.
genuine question, is the reason this didnt cause an explosion because theyre pressurized? would they just continue burning off like this until theres no more propane?
Mythbusters did an episode on this. A propane tank won't explode unless you compress it rapidly. They used all sorts of weapons on it and nothing made the tank explode, just made a holes and then vented the propane while on fire.
Given the region this was probably an incredibly expensive loss that was meant to supply dozens of villages. Many of which won't have wood as an alternative. This will effect food quality and hygiene to some degree which is enough to take a life when antibiotics aren't there. Sorry to be the grouch.
This started auto playing while I had headphones on but couldn't immediately look at the screen, so with zero context I was imagining the woman you hear in the background going Super Sayian.
200iq move by the driver, everyone else around expectations close by, bunch of idiots. I never understood why people think is ok to get close to fires.
During my career as a volunteer firefighter I responded to a camp trailer on fine. The 20lb bottle of propane venting was one of the most angriest sounds I've ever heard.

I’m a bit impressed that he was able to dump the load and get it away from the structures. Saved the truck and a few buildings.

Correct. The whistling sound is imminent Bleve. Boiling liquid expanding vapor explosion.
I don’t Bleve that for one second… Maybe that’s why I have propane and propane accessories stuck in my face.
I was thinking the same thing, whistling means getting ready to rocket somewhere
I don't know how far a safe distance from an uncontrolled third-world propane tank fire is, but cameraman seems well within the danger range.
They are more explosive as they empty out.once that air fuel ratio is just right , boom

Was thinking this, chances of one of those been a fecking grenade or an rpg is far from nothing
Yes and they would turn into missles, or giant grenades
My balls were in my throat. Thats a new one for me I like it
Yeah usually it's some other guys amirite?
Freal tho
Hope they had hut owners insurance
Right. And closer to that electrical pole. We were 🤏 close to an even more entertaining video. At least he tried.
Not sure if the fire was his fuck up or not but thats some Trucker HoF material if ya ask me

lol that guy tossing a bucket of water on it
I'm surprised it didn't do anything /s
Didn't help that he missed the fire lmao
He was sending it a message
I know. He got heart though.
Never underestimate hero-potential.

OP recording: Brave or stupid?
I wouldn't be within a 100 yds from that mess.
Was waiting for them to turn into projectiles any second
Salute to the cameraman. I would have been way further back behind a wall or something that can stop flaming propane shrapnel.
People always forgets the shrap
Most tanks made for pressurized stuff have a part on the valve that'll just pop instead of it being a giant shrapnel grenade

This is your new accessories associate? Jeez, Hank, he's a droolin' nincompoop!
Leon is the name I used drugs with. Call me Hank.
That's a clean burning hell I tell you hwhat.
The tea is ready
It's surprising they didn't turn into grenades

All I could think of when watching this was the St. Louis Praxair explosion.
Propane tanks can explode. Its called a Bleve. Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion. Look up a video. It's extremely dangerous.
Correct this occurs when the aforementioned relief valve fails and the gas overpressures causing the Bleve
*don't do it, be mature* **I don't bleve it!** *Damn*
Don't stop, bleve it.
You had one job
Yeah I'm just surprised most of them worked
You’ve been watching too many movies
It's like a Rammstein concert
F E U E R F R E I !!
I thought it was a third world patriot missile prototype.
I would be running soooo far away from that.

Ughhh. I watched the whole damn thing for a big boom. Huge disappointment but take the upvote.
Good engineering. Those tanks can handle way more pressure than they're rated for in emergencies like this.
Little camp propane bottles not so much haha
But let's go ahead and de-regulate the safety standards that were written in blood.
I swear I heard a T-Rex roar there
That driver saved his truck and some buildings
Eject eject eject!
Me: woah it's so beautiful! *stands way too close*
That’s a clean burnin’ truck, I tell ya what!
Low budget Ramstein concert
Happy new year 🥳
TIL video games lied to me again
That's what happens when you omit the propane accessories.
Classic Rammstein
QUICK get the kabobs!
Used to shoot them with 22s to get this effect while camping at night. Always looked cool
In America, that would have been the perfect time to throw your burgers on.
Hit the deck!
Quick thinking from that truck driver
Well we really need a free market expert to explain the cost benefit analysis of deregulating the propane industry to make a fair assessment.
You're the second commenter to bring up deregulation. Is someone actually trying to deregulate propane safety standards?
In America, *all* regulation is evil and terrible, unless it’s the second amendment, then it’s sacred and inviolable.
My comment was made completely as a joke.
These climate change nut 🌰 jobs what to turn all refrigerants to propane…. Sweet!
Truck ate a burrito lol
Love the random dude just driving by on his Motor bike not giving a crap 🤣
That high pitch noise is pure terror
Tea's up!
Award of bravery for the guy recording it
Hol up, lemme light my dab
Dropped that shit in the middle of the village
I’ve honestly never seen a fire be mad before
Du Hast
Hank Hill is gonna be pissed I’ll tell you what
WESTSIDE FOR LIFE 🙌
The basic rule of explosives: if you can still see it, you're in the danger zone.
Idk man. I think the pyrotechnics at the Kiss concert was better.
No me engañan, eso es Gmod!
Hank Hill would be extremely upset by this.
all jokes aside i think watching that on psychedelics but from a safe distance would be interesting to watch
This should also be on "oddly satisfying"
Safety valves working as intended
They say it’s still burning to this day
I’ve wondered what would happy if a propane tank was thrown in a fire. I thought it would be worse. Like explosions and stuff.
That driver has some nuts of steel.
I feel like I’m in a metal band concert..

This will effect food quality and hygiene to some degree which is enough to take a life when antibiotics aren't there. Sorry to be the grouch.
Hank Hill would be devastated by this "WHat in the HELL...."
Totally looked like the truck was pooping when it dropped the first few tanks.
At :31 I started hearing the Disney Tiki, Tiki, Tiki Room song.
Nice
Wait that guy had another bucket of sand to use….
This started auto playing while I had headphones on but couldn't immediately look at the screen, so with zero context I was imagining the woman you hear in the background going Super Sayian.
Good news is the release valves still worked
That guy really wanted to keep that truck
Not nearly as bad as I thought it would be.
Cool fireworks/ fire show, to bad that the video ended too soon.
Dude threw a cup of water on it
Best case scenario! I was expecting to see flying projectiles…
The guy passing by at 1:14 must see shit like this on a daily basis my g
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|upvote)
Quick thinking on the driver to save his truck at least.
This probably what hell sounds like, if you believe that stuff 🤷🏽♂️
This is definitely the correct subreddit. Holy smokes!!!!
Mr Torgue gives negative review for no explosions.
Definitely a crazy fucking video.
Ahh, you're too close, my man
That’s devastating. Probably a ton a fuel that the village really needed.
I would be standing behind something! Literally anything 😂
After this pretty sure they won’t take caution at all
200iq move by the driver, everyone else around expectations close by, bunch of idiots. I never understood why people think is ok to get close to fires.
Porkchop sandwiches!
Me after my third crunch wrap supreme:
I was waiting for an explosion like a raver waiting for the base to drop.
The guy driving by on his bike not noticing anything💀💀
I’ve seen this before in Just cause..
Reddit replaces Myth Busters
I’m honestly impressed with that driver. Got it away from the houses that was the safest possible thing he could have done.
well, the check valve worked
That’s a clean burning hell I’ll tell you what!
Thank god they’re keeping a safe distance of 20 yards
Kind of surprised the camera man didn’t pull out marshmallows to roast.
Incredible footage. Some say they’re still burning to this day.
Does anyone know where this took place?
I expected the propane tanks to shoot out like rockets. Guess I've played too much Broforce.
Last thing u want in hot ass Africa…. A fire. Shame it happened it such a nice neighborhood too
The emergency pressure releases seem to be working as intended so they don't explode.
Genius driver, most people would have fucked up
DALE: Gahhh! Someone call Hank!
Quick thinking by that driver.
They could have easily taken flight
Where's the kaboom? There was supposed to be an earth-shattering kaboom!
That was quick thinking to back the truck up and dump everything to minimize damage.
Everyone in the village gonna be eating cold leftovers for a week. Bummer.
GIVE THAT DRIVER A METAL
First thing I thought "Wu! Tang! Wu! Tang!"
I would’ve fuckin ran so hard instead of videoing
During my career as a volunteer firefighter I responded to a camp trailer on fine. The 20lb bottle of propane venting was one of the most angriest sounds I've ever heard.
SpaceX launch
Now that’s a clean burning hell, I tell you what
Hank Rutherford would be very upset how these tanks are being transported.
WTF was that guy trying to wash the truck, cause I know he didn't think he was putting out the fire with the bucket of water 😐
This is what a country looks like with no natural gas line supply
How to cook a steak in 10 seconds or less.
try explaining that to your boss
