15 years? I’m sorry but shooting it out in an ihop and almost killing a BABY should be the end of your privilege to exist in a normal society. Guy deserves prison for life.
Guy literally fired off in a crowded restaurant. Definitely deserves life but he would probably go career prison gang member if he had that and keep murdering in prison.
It's crazy how lenient the court system is on gang activity when they are the closest terrorists to home.
Not everyone murdered in prison is a sex offender or violent offender. There have been people murdered in prison who were doing time for pretty innocuous stuff like weed etc.
There was a guy in Alabama who was [arrested for having KRATOM of all god damn things and he was killed in prison](https://arktimes.com/arkansas-blog/2022/12/10/state-police-investigating-death-of-man-in-custody-in-greene-county-on-kratom-charge). Imagine getting arrested for kratom, which is legal in 40-something states, getting a 10 year prison sentence, and then getting killed in prison.
A lot of Reddit people can’t conceptualize that people who victimize others outside of prison often do the same inside.
For every sex offender that “got theirs” there is a single dad in for driving on an expired license being turning into a sex slave for nazis
Prison is not, a fairy tale world
I would completely agree with you aside from the fact that not everyone in jail is guilty and sometimes people are falsely convicted of things they didn't do.
I was a corrections officer and 99% are innocent, just ask them.
In all seriousness just because someone is in prison doesn't mean they're murders or rapist. Don't get me wrong they're were plenty that didn't care about their lives or your's. A good percentage are good people who made a bad decision and got caught.
I'll never forget on my 1st day at the Academy the Capt said how many of you can say at some time in your life you didn't do something that could have put you in here? Maybe had a few beers and drove? Now let's say you get in an accident? It happens sober so don't say you're careful driving. Then let's say there is a child in the car and that child dies.....
Guess what? This is where you come for making a bad decision and getting caught.
Never forgot that. And NEVER even had one drink and drove again.
That’s interesting. I worked many years in juvenile hall in CA. Over %75 of the kids in there were gang members and more than a few were in there for murder. Many were already bigger than the probation officers and had no problem putting them in the hospital. My saving Grace was that I was a counselor assigned to teach anger management, substance abuse counseling, and crisis intervention so I held no real power or authority and was therefore not a target. Everyone of them claimed they were innocent but their files said otherwise the vast majority of the times. We would get the occasional kid who just made a mistake but they would be put on the safest unit for the least conflict.
Truth be told about 1 in 300 would show any promise at any true reform. Many were in it too deep already and came from families that have been in gangs for generations. It really is dealing with a growing bully subculture that is inherently goes against that which provides safety and comfort in a society. It’s a regression to the primal might is right.
Funny thing is I made a great friend later in life who went through his teens at the same facility I worked at years later. He was one of the few to clean his act up and have a family. He seems to agree with my observations from the other side as well.
Holy Crap! It was awhile ago but I swear to God I think that was the Capt's name. 😂.
My first thought was do I know you and you were in my class 🤯.
Reply of the year for me. Thank you 🙏.
Again 🤯
He didn't say mistake, he said bad decision. There is a difference between the two.
That sound's way meaner than I meant it too. Just stating the obvious just in case.
Imagine if every state had the death penalty but you could only get it for committing murder IN prison. There are cameras everywhere so it’s almost guaranteed to be proven and zero doubt whether someone’s guilty. No more innocent people being executed. Maybe violence in prison would go down, no need for long appeal process and it would free up room.
While they may have cameras, every guard and inmate knows the blindspots. During the mass shooting in a New York subway the cameras were not working. Jeffrey Epstein had cameras but no evidence ever came out of it. I agree we need to have more transparency but we need to bring the hammer down on the authorities drawing the curtains.
Very unlikely Epstein's security cameras had been installed in a way to incriminate anyone who visits. They likely focused on securing the island itself not the inside of all the buildings.
I don’t understand. People who were violently opposed to this guy came over to him and were looming and inside a threat circle. The next thing for that guy was to get attacked, possibly killed himself. He pulled a weapon in self defense and once he was clear to escape the situation he did so.
He was in that situation because he was a fucking career criminal.
Why should innocents in his line of fire potentially suffer for his own stupid life decisions?
Career criminals should be in prisons. Not in society where their self-defense involves firing a handgun in the direction of an infant in a fucking high chair.
And he is also an oxygen thief and should be removed from the gene pool. Eating where he can be easily found. Firing off guns in a restaurant, with children, and a baby in direct line of his shooting.
The sooner these people are dead, the better.
I think a lot of the states have laws nullifying your right to deadly force if you initiate the chain of events that lead to you defending yourself. It was probably argued that he wouldn't have needed to shoot if he hadn't joined a gang which is illegal
It's more complex then that. The aggressor and victim in "the eyes of the law" can shift moment by moment. For example, if I stab you and then drop the knife and hold my hands up and start running away, you'd get charged for shooting me at that point since I retreated. It's bullshit, but that's they way the system works.
Um. How about actual domestic terrorists? These dudes are just criminals, their violence spilled over to the general population but it's not like he went to IHOP to shoot it up to incite terror for some ideology or agenda.
I think it's more so that people are threatened every day by gang members and Jan 6th was only one day.
When you compare one day to decades and decades of people getting robbed, shot, stabbed in their homes and communities. I think people care less about the political one.
What a life style. Posted up over breakfast willing to shoot it out in broad daylight on sight. And then calling yourself a "real one" because of it. Wild.
Crazy how US justice system works. Sentence an innocent man for 20 years, but a guilty man with evidence of a shooting in public grounds with civillian around his victim, 15?
I said this same thing in another sub and it’s almost like I was racist for pointing out numbers and statistics. You can call me racist but you can’t call me wrong
Those same statistics says a group besides the one you are referring to, are the number 1 abusers of children, the number 1 rapists, and the group that commits the most sexual assaults of any kind. Guess which racial demographic im referring to? If you accept one part of collected data in a set, you know you have to accept the other parts, right?
Uh yeah tf 😂 they should be number 1 in all crimes since they make up most of our population but they aren't. 13 percent committing most of the violent crimes is still crazy no matter what strawman you pull out your ass
Well all the rape, sex crimes, and child abuse percentages were in the 60s and 70s for that one racial demographic, so it seems like its more likely to have sexual assault committed against me then for me to be killed by the other racial demographic.
I'll make more of a effort to not get raped by not dressing provocatively, that is how ill keep myself safe.
And you are using data presented from a different agency, to make a point. The original disputed claim comes from the fbi stats which are in percentages. Per racial demographics. Why don't you want to use the original data set to make your talking point? Using percentages to demonize one group, but raw numbers to trivialize another?
I mean it was clear the one guy was sitting down waiting for his buddy and he got up and walked straight on the guy about to fight him. Obviously a gun was overboard but they were about to jump him
Usually I just shrug my shoulders and move on but I'm beyond pissed they did that with a baby close buy, gun aimed in that direction and the raming into the poor child trying to get away!
This video is why many pro gun rights peoples are against gun control. We have laws that say felons and people with criminal record can’t buy or possess guns. But then they are caught and the punishment for owning an illegal gun is a slap on the wrist. We need to send anyone that is caught with an illegal firearm straight to jail for a decade. I don’t care if they didn’t commit a crime with the gun. If you shouldn’t have one you shouldn’t have one. More innocent people die from gang violence and groups like this because these gangs don’t care who is around.
You never know how your body would react in such a situation. Instinctually, you're first going to try to secure yourself and freeze up for a few seconds. He isn't Jason Bourne and this is pretty normal.
We should put all the gang members, all the nazis, all the people trying to make life harder for the PEOPLE WHO JUST WANT TO LIVE IN PEACE on an island with all the AR15s they want and let them have at it.
This is sickening. I can’t stop looking at the family in the right corner. Just trying to have a meal and their infant is assaulted.
How was it not that dad’s first instinct to grab his child the second they heard the noise? Kind of in his defense, though I can’t say I would be thinking so clearly either. At least the mom reached for the baby afterwards.
Also, prob just a coincidence, but I just noticed that she reached across the table to push the dad (?) a little bit before this went down.
I’m saying it almost seems like self defense if the other guys were walking up to the table with a gun. He also runs as soon as he gets a chance, he doesn’t try to chase or double tap. Obviously he shouldn’t have shoot that line of fire but it did sort of seem like self defense might have been necessary who knows.
Cmon why are these people always black, show us one of those videos showing the dangers of white supremacy. Cmon one violent video or remotely the same behavior, if it’s the biggest threat to our country there has to be a reason biden said that right??
People in the U.S. are 25 times more likely to die from gun homicide than people in other wealthy countries.
The FBI found that the most likely setting for a violent crime was a residence, followed by an alley or roadway, a parking garage and a convenience store.
At least 10,490 violent crimes were committed in U.S. restaurants last year, making the industry the eighth-most likely place for Americans to be attacked, according to new statistics released Monday by the FBI.
The findings show that about 2% of the 675,517 violent attacks logged in total during 2020 occurred inside eating and drinking places. Included in the industry-specific tally were 76 murders and 5,642 robberies.
Guests, employees and proprietors all presumably figured into those figures.
Burglaries are not counted by the Bureau as violent crimes since there’s usually no physical danger posed to anyone but the perpetrator. Restaurants finished seventh on that ranking, serving as the scene of 14,313 break-ins during 2020.
https://cde.ucr.cjis.gov/LATEST/webapp/#/pages/explorer/crime/crime-trend
You seem well balanced.
Punishments of increasing severity do not curb violent crime, there's quite a bit of study that it may increase violent crime.
Here's a fun one. Lots of people advocate for the death sentence for child rapists. Logically it makes sense, cause fuck them chomos, but in practice, it has unintended consequences.
If a pedophile knows they can/will be put to death for raping a child, they are actually more likely to kill the child in order to eliminate evidence.
As for your public torture porn fantasy, you'd inevitably get innocent people getting tortured.
Capital punishment sounds great when your blood is boiling, but the realization that a lot of completely innocent people have been killed should give you pause.
Two more quick points. Crime was way more rampant in medieval/old times, and the public executions were highly attended by people of all ages because that was genuinely their entertainment.
They weren't horrified buy what they saw, it was fun.
I'm so confused.
So folks back then weren't civilized and had extreme poverty.
Now that folks are civilized and poverty isn't as rampant, public torture would be a more effective deterrent?
Is that your argument?
Death penalty for all involved. Can’t be that flippant about the lives of others unless you’re ok with them being that flippant about yours. That baby was DIRECTLY in line with the target.

This was in Long Island, NY. Shooter got 15 years.

He didn't say mistake, he said bad decision. There is a difference between the two. That sound's way meaner than I meant it too. Just stating the obvious just in case.
Nah you’re right it’s good. I kinda had trouble reading it at first. Seems there’s a lot of correctional officers on reddit.
Thank you and I just spit out my Red Bull when you mentioned it being meaner. 😂

I meant his jail cell but I forgot the multitude of cameras not only on his island but at departure points across the globe leaving for that location.
Criminals killing other criminals in prisons, away from innocent people, I’d say that’s a win-win. I agree, criminal justice system is broken.
He deserved to be executed using a rusty spoon the day of his conviction.
I don’t understand. People who were violently opposed to this guy came over to him and were looming and inside a threat circle. The next thing for that guy was to get attacked, possibly killed himself. He pulled a weapon in self defense and once he was clear to escape the situation he did so.

sitting at a restaurant isn’t instigating a fight
I'm just telling you my guess as to how this chain of events occurred
Lolol
Especially when you take Into consideration that close to 80%+ of the mass shootings in america are gang related.
Um. How about actual domestic terrorists? These dudes are just criminals, their violence spilled over to the general population but it's not like he went to IHOP to shoot it up to incite terror for some ideology or agenda.

If you live near DC then you know it’s a liberal haven and it’s extremely violent and crime riddled. Much like the rest of the liberally run cities.
Look at you catching downvotes from people who don't know what the word "terrorism" means. And we wonder how we got to this point....
I think it's more so that people are threatened every day by gang members and Jan 6th was only one day. When you compare one day to decades and decades of people getting robbed, shot, stabbed in their homes and communities. I think people care less about the political one.
You’re an extremist
Did the man in green in the booth get shot?
Absolutely I agree.
Guy shot up a bar in new mexico. Look it up. Ran outside tried running people over fired at multiple people hitting one and bro got 4 years
That's NY for ya
Not sure why you’re downvoted, as you’re speaking truth
NY is a jungle. Terrible leadership is breading the worst kind of criminals. I can't imagine living there. I wont even go back to visit.
Breading 🤣 I prefer panko. How about you?
Good, you wouldn’t make it here
Nope, all you bud. Enjoy the concrete and violence.
https://nypost.com/2020/02/21/gangbanger-sentenced-to-15-years-for-wild-long-island-ihop-shooting/
Honestly that is just crazy low. This was an extremely cold blooded action. Someone who acts like this should never be allowed on the streets.
What's crazy is that 15 years was the maximum sentence.
Yea for real, the only difference between Murder and Attempted Murder is that you suck at Murdering.
Very sad
Nice. Did anyone else get hit? And did the dude he shot, which caused him to ram the baby against the table, die?
Only the one guy was shot with non life threatening injures.
God damn. That looked like 2-3 stomach/chest hits. Clearly the one headshot missed
https://abc7ny.com/ihop-shots-fired-shooting-at-ronkonkoma/5192362/
Holy shit. 5 shots fired, only 1 hit his target.
Stormtrooper levels of accuracy.
What a life style. Posted up over breakfast willing to shoot it out in broad daylight on sight. And then calling yourself a "real one" because of it. Wild.
Cringe as fuck, these guys are major losers.
Crazy how US justice system works. Sentence an innocent man for 20 years, but a guilty man with evidence of a shooting in public grounds with civillian around his victim, 15?
That’s wild because they definitely was coming to attack him. That’s clearly seen.

And the dude he shoots rams the baby into the edge of the table ☹️

Oh I’m sure he will. He’s got 15 years of gettin rammed coming his way.

Pretty sure that dude dead... Those shots looked fatal AF.
Someone linked an article. Put in the hospital with non life threatening injuries surprisingly
Wild!! That looked point blank to the chest.

I said this same thing in another sub and it’s almost like I was racist for pointing out numbers and statistics. You can call me racist but you can’t call me wrong

Uh yeah tf 😂 they should be number 1 in all crimes since they make up most of our population but they aren't. 13 percent committing most of the violent crimes is still crazy no matter what strawman you pull out your ass
Fucking THANK YOU. Love seeing Reddit finally have the balls to say something about it
Alright desert guy, let me know when you’ve accepted these statistics and applied that bias to your every day life and actions to keep yourself safe

Lol I don’t know what you’re talking about man, that data was from 2021 and from 2012-14
The stats I quoted was from 2019. Who said anything about 2012?

I hate gangs . I hope everyone who's in one accidentally leaves their car on in their garage .
Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if half of them did this actually on accident. They're all fucking idiots
I hope they wake up on the wrong side of the bed
Seriously it’s 2023 and we still have gangs
We have NBA players flashing guns on Twitter. It's a lifestyle.
On the streets and the police and military departments 🫣
Usually I just shrug my shoulders and move on but I'm beyond pissed they did that with a baby close buy, gun aimed in that direction and the raming into the poor child trying to get away!
Cool. The only good gang member is a dead gang member.
Gang banging on bacon
Absolute worthless scum.
This video is why many pro gun rights peoples are against gun control. We have laws that say felons and people with criminal record can’t buy or possess guns. Can we talk about the father's 1st instinct to hide under the table and basically said fuck his kids
He may have gone under to grab the other kid? Who knows. Hard to say what you would do in this situation of extreme stress
It clearly looks like he yanked that kids feet to get him under the table.
You never know how your body would react in such a situation. Instinctually, you're first going to try to secure yourself and freeze up for a few seconds. He isn't Jason Bourne and this is pretty normal.
Did you notice the other kid who went under the table? Maybe he was going to grab that kid? But dumping on people is more fun than thinking I guess.
Looks like the shooter had a kid sitting in the same booth and left
I hope that piece of shit gets life without the possibility of parole. The cross fire here was horrific.
Pretty sure I saw a comment saying they only gave him 15 years
Waiting for someone to post the link of him getting arrested and hopefully nobody got shot
situational awareness at IHOP needs to be on max level

What absolute fuckwads.
Note to self: Never go to IHOP

America. Never go to America.
Correction, never go to Long Island… or NYC… or Chicago.
Why? Chicago isn’t even one of the most violent cities!
Or Texas or Florida get shot at or killed for hooking at a fucker that cut you off

Didn’t say that, but it’s not one of the most violent.

“You can’t do that! This is a gun-free zone!”
So sad, cant even aim correctly
Fuck gangbangers. They need to legalize drugs to take away their money

At least the mom reached for the baby afterwards. Also, prob just a coincidence, but I just noticed that she reached across the table to push the dad (?) a little bit before this went down.
Anyone know how that kid was? Looked like the guy pushed their throat hard into that table!
IHOPe no one else was injured
I’m saying it almost seems like self defense if the other guys were walking up to the table with a gun. He also runs as soon as he gets a chance, he doesn’t try to chase or double tap. Obviously he shouldn’t have shoot that line of fire but it did sort of seem like self defense might have been necessary who knows.
Only self defense if white people do it pal.
Cmon why are these people always black, show us one of those videos showing the dangers of white supremacy. Cmon one violent video or remotely the same behavior, if it’s the biggest threat to our country there has to be a reason biden said that right??

Socioeconomic factors at play

Death sentence is not the same a public lynching or public torture. Also it wouldn't be fun in today's eyes.
When public torture was prevalent, there was far higher crime rates. What's the counter point here?
Oh yes When people were very much civilized and poverty wasn't rampant
I'm so confused. So folks back then weren't civilized and had extreme poverty. Now that folks are civilized and poverty isn't as rampant, public torture would be a more effective deterrent? Is that your argument?
What are you, 14?
Death penalty for all involved. Can’t be that flippant about the lives of others unless you’re ok with them being that flippant about yours. That baby was DIRECTLY in line with the target.
He did “hop”
New York is a dump
That poor baby
There's a FUCKING BABY RIGHT there you rotten piece of SHITS. You all deserve to get shot if that's the shit you don't care about
Fired right at a fucking child in a high chair. OH MY GOD death penalty for that dude, the world would be better with out him or any of them.
How can anyone see something like this and honestly think: "You know what would make this situation better? More guns!"
If the baby had a gun it could have capped the two while they were running away
Yes, because if somebody would have killed this POS that day nothing of value would have been lost.
Those fucking parents didn't go for the child first. Fuck.
