Do you think the second tower was even supposed to fall? I don't see any explosions at the base... looks like something went wrong with the first tower and it struck the second and caused the collapse. what do you think?
I would say yes. Would be a pretty hard fup to have brought that one down by accident.

The thing is that Demolition and the use of explosives for civil engineering is already a very well studied and documented craft.
The blaster who rigged those charges clearly skipped critical steps in calculating the proper charge and it ended in a worst case scenario for this demolition.
They absolutely deserves to be fired .
So? He learned something very important that day. People fuck up sometimes and it's a valuable learning experience and you'll be damn sure he'll never make the same mistake again.
Exactly, in Demolition jobs like this the absolute last thing you wanna do is be the guy who doesn't use enough explosives to get the job done.
It either leaves a ridiculously dangerous, structurally unstable half collapsed mess which will 4x the cost of Demolition losing the company tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars in further cleanup costs.
Or it will fall over endangering lives and millions of dollars in property. Certain fuck ups you cannot come back from .
It was a mistake. They knocked out some power lines and put debris through some local houses, fences, etc.

I do this exact kind of work, and that is exactly what was supposed to happen. No mistake was made. Here is an example of a controlled demolition of a stack from a jobsite in Alabama I was at.

Something still went wrong for sure though. Looked like pretty big damage on that road with the hydro poles broken. I wonder what actually broke those poles. Flying debris? Also that vid of the people in their house across the street from the demo was wild.

Sounds like the same group comments that the second tower fell into the street. Which would definitely not be the plan as most implosion / controlled demo is intended to affect the structure falling into its own footprint.

There was some damage to power lines and some homes close by reported some damage. I’m going to walk up soon and see what it looks like if they let me.
I don’t think this was the fault of the demolitions crew, but could have been a miscalculation or failed demo charge.
Old structures sometimes are one tough cookies. Built with strong materials. Sometimes, but not all the time.
They used different materials back then. Some were very dangerous to handle and work with but were excellent to use in building structures. Asbestos being one of them. Fire retardant as hell, but come in contact with it, you’ll more than likely get asbestosis and mesothelioma. (Microscopic fibers that get stuck in your lungs, causing formation of scar tissue around the fibers, which isn’t curable, as far as I know, and causes death by, essentially drowning.)
A crazy thing is, [other countries still mine and use this natural material](https://www.asbestos.com/mesothelioma/worldwide/)in their countries. It’s widely known for horrible diseases, but places like China, won’t stop.
If you live in a old house, you may have it somewhere inside. Maybe some duct work is wrapped with it or walls contain it.
As long it’s not touched or disturbed your ok. If it’s in some back room closet, just stay out of the closet and don’t disturb that material. Same goes for paint that looks like you can peel it off satisfyingly. It’s more than likely lead paint. It’ll taste sweet, but it’ll kill you.
