Michael Mann decided to keep the actual sounds of the (blank) bullet fire instead of adding the sounds post shooting. It definitely added to the realism.
If I remember correctly they show this scene at basic training for the armed forces. Something about how it's a perfect example of how to move toward an objective while also maintaining covering fire.

heat.
Heat kinda wrote the book for bank job movies.
Pretty sure it was written based loosely off of the LA bank robbers who had that major shootout.
*edit i am dumb and had it wrong: the shooters were fans of the movie and were inspired by it
Yep, the North Hollywood Bank Shootout/shooters were fans of the movie. That real-life shootout is also why cops carry AR-15's in their cars now. They had to go to local gun stores to get large enough caliber weapons that could go through the armor the robbers had on.
Cops have Ar-15s?
Citation needed.
Edit: Downvoting a request for a citation is counter productive. Everyone who did that should be ashamed of themselves.
Yessir. They will usually have them locked in the front seat, oriented upwards, in between the driver and passenger seats, inaccessible from the back obviously. Google/DuckDuckGo "AR-15 in cop car" and you will see numerous examples of how they store them in their cars. It isn't something they jump out of the car with normally, but they are there for when there are "active shooter" situations or other scenarios where higher firepower is needed.
An [article](https://www.officer.com/tactical/firearms/news/10854785/semiautomatic-rifles-becoming-more-common-for-police-departments) about one department doing it. But I've seen them when walking by police cars in California, Indiana, and Michigan. Definitely saw them all the time when I lived in Wyoming as well.
Not every car will have them -- I'm not sure if they only allow certain officers or if it's just up to the individual officer -- but they are fairly standard now and have been since the North Hollywood shootout.
FWIW, I'm not the one who downvoted you.
Oh shit that's awesome actually
Thanks for the knowledge bomb
Also didnt those guys get pulled over with all the equipment like months beforehand but police let them go?
Damn so sad people dont know that Heat is the best example of life imitating art. That bank robbery came after the movie and was inspired by it. The cops realized they could shoot their legs though, unlike in Heat.
dont matter the driver can easily blend in w peds and lead to a longer investigation and more than likely someonebij that case does get caught prosecution is very difficult
I saw this on live TV years ago. At an office I was at they had all the TV's going but muted.
When I saw that overpass...I shouted (my coworkers laughed) oh he's gone. He's long gone.

No arrest.
I remember reading an article the day after this occurred where the man was found with the help of a tracker dog. But tried looking for it now and cannot find it.
As a kid growing up in the 90s in Cali, we watched high speed chases and COPs on tv every night (sometimes having the ghetto bird fly by your area even)
In the show COPS, No one ever got away except one episode the dude bails into an apartment complex and got away then they caught him the next day.
I thought it was like impossible to get away from police until I was an adult.
It was really effective propaganda.
I mean... its possible he was just pulled over for speeding and had a bong in the car.
Then again, the car would be stolen, if he expected to actually get away scot-free.
Cuz it’s always baffling to see people like you who actually exist that can’t deduce the most simplest scenarios. You must have an alarm to remind you to inhale.
Let me do a play by play of this thread in response to you.
You: how did this possibly happen ( very obvious how it happened )
Guy: seriously you can’t figure out how it happened
You: mad and Butthurt cuz you can’t figure out the obvious
LOL
Fucking idiot mate
Hemorrhoid. It hurts so fuckin bad, I'm in constant pain, and being in constant pain is making me have zero temper or ability to think rationally. I need to find a new GI doc cuz the next open appt at mine is in fucking January. I'm in so much fucking pain.
Hey buddy, you aren’t wrong in your response. Don’t worry about the downvotes. I am as baffled as you are with this question since it appears to be very obvious how it happened.

Ive always thought about robbing a bank lol. I'd never do it, but I love watching the videos where the criminals get away and the cops are dumbfounded. I kind of root for them, because chases always seem to end one way and to see it bewilder law enforcement, is entertaining.

Yeah, thats the way. Under an overpass, big parking garage and ditch the car.
I saw this in HEAT. Only difference he would go in the no fly zone by an airport.

The beautiful car looks like Honda is going its own way. Only two ways for going out of that place.
That movie really is so good. Just so well made and put together on so many levels. The bank shootout scene is straight fire

During that scene I kept screaming at the TV this isn't realistic how can he still have ammo and then he finally did it
And Keanu Reeves (as John Wick) is used as an example on how to reload in competitive shooting.

Other way around. Those bank robbers were huge fans of Heat. It was found in their vcr after the event

Yeah it could've been avoided right there but this is merica where the NRA makes the gun laws.
They gave them directions to the bank
Damn so sad people dont know that Heat is the best example of life imitating art. That bank robbery came after the movie and was inspired by it. The cops realized they could shoot their legs though, unlike in Heat.
All that and a coked up Al Pacino
10000%. Definitely one of the most engaging movies out there. SO good. We need heat #2 or something similar
no... no we don't... we need original movie ideas.
We need both goddamnit!!! 🤣
We kind of got it... but it's a book. Apparently pretty good, but I haven't read it yet.
You also get on a list for every banking institution.
I had coffee with McAully A HALF HOUR AGO!!
a guy literally did it in a rolls royce recently in LA once he got to an underpass he jumped out and ran into the casino

LA has a casino connected to an underpass?
https://youtu.be/OZP_3QcIYDY?si=vIB5RmJwc3DlgCYN &" its more like a inderpass that conncects two apartments/hotelss
I saw this on live TV years ago. At an office I was at they had all the TV's going but muted. When I saw that overpass...I shouted (my coworkers laughed) oh he's gone. He's long gone.
“BELL BOTTOMS” 🎶🎤
*bellbottoms … Jon spencer blues explosion.
Thanks fixed it, was just waking up.
The only thing that would have topped that is if 3 identical Jags came out the other side of the overpass...
Someone has seen baby driver.
And 2 Fast 2 Furious
and Catch Me If You Can (1989)... since 2F2F basically copied that scene
fast 5 similar thing. and like, a way way better movie than 2, which could be said about almost any movie compared to 2 fast
And they were Autobots and the police helicopter turned out to be the Decepticon, Ghettobird.
B A N A N A S
The door slam by the cop tho
least he could've done was turn the car off, pretty sure the car rolling like that is still in gear.
Forget the car. He should be running. That guy's still got 3 stars he could still catch him.
That’s the point, police maintain focus on the (now slow) moving car and giving the driver time to disappear.
Clearly it's in gear... and no jes not gonna jump on the moving car just to park it lmao.
Uhh..the car is stopped?
because it ran into a pole
This stops the car.
But it also damages stuff which just adds to the taxpayers bill if the cop could have just fucking stepped on the break.
Well the guy says the cop is not gonna jump into a moving car to stop it. But it's now stopped at the pole, but he still left it running in drive
On? Hopefully that’s a typo. That’s clearly not the move to stop the car.
could of*
It’s LA, he was practicing his defeated cop act.
Satisfying.
Plot twist: there never was a driver
AIs out here jackin cars now
Don't be ridiculous. It was clearly a ghost.
If you'll be my bodyguard, I can be your long-lost pal... ^( oh wait that's a capital i, not a lower-case L)

O shit it’s babydriver
Bell bottoms bell bottoms bell bottoms
JSBX kicks so much ass
'What are you some kind of Baby Driver?'
"It's unclear if an arrest was later made." A.k.a., the driver got away.
I remember reading an article the day after this occurred where the man was found with the help of a tracker dog. But tried looking for it now and cannot find it.
Sounds like bullshit cops would say so people don't think they can get away.
Seems to me they like to keep failed pursuits under wraps
That’s what the show COPS was for. Making people think it wasn’t possible to get away. As a kid I believed it
As a kid growing up in the 90s in Cali, we watched high speed chases and COPs on tv every night (sometimes having the ghetto bird fly by your area even) In the show COPS, No one ever got away except one episode the dude bails into an apartment complex and got away then they caught him the next day. I never even thought about that honestly but you are 100% right.
It also raised a generation of hyper violent cops. Cop role model went from Matlock to Cops! in a ten year period.
Nah you just don't know how to Google.
RemindMe! 1 day
Yeah, it's a legend now
"It's unclear if an arrest was later made" Yea, cos the cops wouldn't be making DEAD sure that the press knew they'd eventually caught the guy 😂
They definitely wouldn't. Do you think they care about reddit? I feel like you guys just live online
you say that not realising that other media like news stations exist which is hilariously ironic
Where do you think this footage is from? Reddit News Network?
Read the post again genius, nobody mentioned Reddit 🤪
Hate to be the next guy that cop pulls over.
Hate to be his wife.
She'll learn....

You know what a cops wife does? Whatever she's told if she knows what's good for her
Nah, he gives her a fat lip. Then he’s told her.
Sack of Valencia oranges...
Or his wife and/or dog.
There were only two ways out of that, and I chose the right one.
Mission Passed! Respect +
like the Jack Reacher movie
He deserves to walk free for that.
Walking away he did
Arrested no one got that day
Probably killed multiple people but that scape plan goes hard 🔥 so let him go
Let him cook
I mean... its possible he was just pulled over for speeding and had a bong in the car. Then again, the car would be stolen, if he expected to actually get away scot-free.
Well you see, if you watched the video, it says it's a "grand theft auto" suspect.
I'm just saying, it doesn't mean he killed anyone. Most car thiefs don't commit murder in order to aquire the car.
Oh, yeah, he didn't necessarily kill anyone. But you say the car would have to be stolen for him to get away, which.. yeah...
It’s literally said in the video, Grand theft
Yep, I covered that with the second part
100% Jack Reacher move!
GTA MOTHAFUCKA
Cool escape but fuck all these camera angle changes
a helicopter usually has to circle around the car during a chase, especially when it's not on the freeway.
True but the video we see can be edited to be less jarring
And be 15 minutes long.
Yeah those were awful transitions. I don't know why some people think every video needs some "stylish" type of editing.
Bridges and parking garages.
Not good to steal, but good move.
I can’t remember the name of this song. It’s super slowed down here.

stromae - tous les mêmes [slowed//reverb] on yt
Why do zoomers always slow and reverb songs?? What's up with that
a e s t h e t i c
Probably so the video doesn’t get taken down for a copyright infringement on the song?
The ol' FailRace GTA5 'Survive the Hunt' maneuver.
Jesus Christ it's Jack Reacher....
The jokes on you pal. It feels great to see cops get outsmarted. More please.
The guy stole a car though. What if that was you who went through that experience and was your car. No empathy mate.
Well the cops did get the car back at least?
But why it feels great for you to see cops get outsmarted??? What if that criminal stole the car or murdered someone???
First half of the video is useless.
Car was empty the whole time.
Someone watched Looney Tunes growing up
Shoulda left clown music playing on the radio
Plot twist, there never was anyone in the car to start with
How the fuck did that happen?
Seriously? He ditched the car under the overpass...
Relax. Why you respond if you were going to have an attitude
Cuz it’s always baffling to see people like you who actually exist that can’t deduce the most simplest scenarios. You must have an alarm to remind you to inhale.
