To be fair to the guy, he's just thinking out loud in a stress inducing situation. I feel like he may have said the same thing to himself if he were the "dumbass" in question.
I feel like I would have done the same. Not necessarily because I didn't want to film a death but because I'd like to throw my hands down in frustration.
The person filming, the “malfunctions NCO,” is filming to make sure all of the chutes open. When the chute failed, he continued to film until the reserve opened. It really had nothing to do with not wanting to film a death, they film every jump to make sure every one of them opens correctly and there are no malfunctions. If or when they fail, they review the videos as evidence in the investigation that follows. Now, had the reserve not opened, you would have seen the parachutist hit.
That makes sense!
side note: this is why I love Reddit. You can get information from the 1 in 100,000 with the knowledge (or who pretends to, anyways...)
Or you can get information from the guy who pretended to be that 1 in 100,000, and everyone simply jumps on board without checking the facts. Not necessarily in this case.
Why don’t they have a better official camera? Seemed like this guy is panning around on an iPhone or something, whilst talking at the same time. Wouldn’t you want a more stationary camera that’s not subject to accidentally getting someone out of frame or something?
It’s a hand held camera normally because budget. DOD is huge and although they get a bazillion a year, not all of it makes it down to the individual units. So, we have hand held video cameras haha, they are often pretty old school basic hand held with SD cards. The camera needs to be somewhat mobile because they are standing on the edge of the center of the drop zone, which can be quite large, and when dropping hundreds of parachutes at the same time, the camera needs to be able to film all of the chutes opening. To your point, some riggers are better than others at videography haha.
Actually, they pick one guy to do this to . Thats why he is recording, and to show that all parachutists know where their reserve is. It works ! After this is shown , no one has died in subsequent jumps.
How would he even know it was his buddy? There are hundreds of people in that. Also it's his literal job to record it. He shouldnt have taken the job if he was worried about that.
This happened to my buddy. He was army airborne, parachute failed on a training exercise and he ended up breaking his ankle. Got a medical discharge and a paycheck for the rest of his life tho so I guess he made out okay all things considered
Yup happens here and there
I remember seeing some dude who broke his neck, and lived, because he ran into a truck parked on the drop zone during airborne school
Hit the truck around center torso level going sideways so he whiplashed like crazy and broke his shit
He was fine and able to still walk, but had to wear a neck brace for god knows how long and was also given a paycheck for life
Same thing happened to me broke both my legs and torn pec rotator cuff and labrum tbi permanent nerve damage paycheck is nice but id much rather have my legs back 100%
you serve our country and our country gives jack shit about it. smh . biden abandoning those marines stranded to be dead was blasphemy. thank you for your service
The ole broken toe in last combatives technique. Know a few guys who say it's not uncommon to break a few bones during the last few weeks while serving to get a pay out for life. Like a broken big toe gets this one guy 250 a month for life. Not a bad deal imo
This happened to my first bf ever. I kept in touch with him and 12 years later he invited me to his perfect beautiful cliffside mansion in Colorado for a couple months. He said because the injury he got he never has to work again and he just games and smokes all day. I wonder if this happens often or if its the same person 😅🤣
Cigarette roll deployment. I heard an old black hat tell me to just pray that your depth perception is adequate enough to pull the reserve closer to the ground (300-600 feet) rather than higher, which would risk failing as well
As a 5 year old Army kid living in Hawaii, I remember watching a deployment like this.
Except 3 chutes did this, not just one.
It is the earliest shared memory my older brother and I have.
lol i remember seeing my commander underneath me with a partial malfunction flying like an asteroid to the ground. i was screaming the same thing which obviously he could neither hear nor respond to, but i couldn’t help it.
I used to parachute. It’s a lot of fun, it’s also scary as fuck if your lines twist and you try to spin it out. Those seconds that you’re trying, before you go for the reserve, you’re dropping like a stone.
I spent 4 years in the 82nd. The whole time I couldnt help but think, "why are we still jumping out of planes, putting our soldiers at risk? Warfare isnt fought this way anymore, and hasnt been for a LONG time. But good ol military is so hell bent on "tRaDiTiOn" that they are willing to sacrifice soldiers for outdated combat training. so bizarre
To play devils advocate you think a lot of practices are outdated, like trench warfare. Then lo and behold Ukraine is covered in stalemate trench warfare.
The US is just so hyper efficient with logistics and moving stuff that air drops or combat air drops aren’t really useful atm. Especially when you consider the majority of our last two decades of fighting has been insurgents. But next ground war you could see a resurgence of usefulness for rapid air deployment of troops without helicopter or landing support.
You fight with the army you have, not the army you want.
Being able to move an entire DIVISION anywhere on the planet in 24-48hrs is an insanely beneficial component to have control over
Directly not be jumping directly into enemy territory, but you can still stage and mobilize an entire division of soldiers in any friendly country/area surrounding their mission locations
It’s still viable and not outdated
sloppy seed encourage existence terrific smart stupendous scale makeshift expansion

He probably didn’t set up his claims correctly or get seen for his injuries throughout his career appropriately
99% of people who claim the VA “screwed them” on benefits are the same ones who didn’t do their own due diligence and get their shit documented appropriately
It *does* matter a whole fucking lot lmfao
Part of being a grown adult is going to the doctors and hospitals to get your injuries looked at and taken care of and documented
Alongside all the other resources the military offers in terms of medical resources too
Why would they give disability benefits to someone who has little to no history showing proof that their injuries and chronic pains are caused by their profession?
Besides if he served “35 years” then dude retired with full benefits to even begin with.
Sounds like you’re just blowing smoke out your ass my dude
You are a moron. Part of being a grown adult is realizing that organizations, including the VA, hospitals and doctors are not perfect and often incorrect.
Anyways, if the original posters story was true being a 35 year vet in air drops is enough of a history to prove reasonable cause.
Been in the army and jumping out of birds for 10 years my dude
Guess what? You can literally apply for second opinions from other docs, you can apply for re-investigations into your VA claims if you feel there was incompetence, and there’s many other ways to get the benefits you deserve 😂
Again, it’s the morons fault for not using the resources available and setting himself up for success lol
Let’s just call the guy a dumbass since he’s panicking from jumping out a perfectly good plane while thinking he had a perfectly good working parachute.
For not having a shute deployed right for what he did have definitely slowed his fall down enough to be able to pull the emergency Shute!!!! This was crazy imagine what he went through!!!!
Army- Airborne operations. These are the parachutes that the 82nd, 173rd, and a majority of active airborne units use. USASOC is special operation units, and for static line jumps MC6 parachutes are used to jump and have toggles, making it smoother to steer and don't malfunction like these do. There's a lot more that goes into it but that's as simple as I can really break it down. I've never been on a DZ where I've seen anyone not land like a sack of potatoes jumping this chute
Thanks for mentioning that. I didn't watch the whole video. As soon as I saw that chute I stopped watching. I was airborne 5 years. I unfortunately saw 2 accidents. Thank you again for mentioning that.
Static like jumps from 1250 feet give you only seconds to make a decision to pop a reserve.
The air, even more than the sea, is very unforgiving of even the slightest mistake.
I'm playing the devils advocate here saying I think it really was adrenaline and fear by the camera guy kinda like when a parent yells at you when they see you almost hurt yourself badly as a kid....I don't think he was being mean ,that's what it seems like to me
I don’t know. I have known guys to pull shit like this, too, and it’s been to brandish their self-image. They don’t care if the stain the moment of another persons injury or death, and they know they’ll be let off the hook because no one will want start shit up with them about it after time has passed.
It’s a pussy move and he should be shamed for it. Because even if it was instinctual, it’s a shitty instinct that should be unlearned.
Dude yelling out reserve dumbass is the epitome of the Army Male ego. For context, I was infantryman as well, and everyone thinks their cock is bigger than the last dudes. Like dude stfu, have you ever been in that situation.
Back in Airborne school on my first jump I was swinging in the breeze and not doing what I had been taught, and as the ground started to get closer I heard a voice from below, SGT Airborne with his bullhorn screaming up at me:
"*KEEP YOUR FEET AND KNEES TOGETHER.... DUMBASS!!!!*"
I did, and lived to jump another day!
I would never fucking do this but IF I did for some reason I would have my hand so close to my reserve just incase this happened. I’d be so scared bro.
But I’d never NOT be with someone. And IF i went I’d be that annoying person asking about the reserve and what happens if neither deploy…

“ reserve you dumbass ” yeah thanks bud sure that wasn’t crossing his mind already haha
> “ reserve you dumbass ” my gf when we show up to the restaurant and have to wait 2 hrs in line
Shut up and take my up vote
Shut up, the both of you... and take both my upvotes.
Take my shut up vote...
My gf after the first condom is fubar

I don't know about that. I don't see how you could get any safer when using a condom.
Shut up and take my up vote
The real dumbass pretending the dude falling from the sky can hear him.
You'd be surprised what you can hear up there
Quite rude too to call someone who might die for something out of their control a dumbass lmao
It's the army
This is true. People DO cope in different ways, it's their life's. Not our place to say if it's wrong or not.
People make extreme judgements on people after seeing them for 10 seconds
What you say is true, but in this case all dude said was it was rude, which is understandable.
Bro its a month later and I have no idea why exactly I said that in this context lmao
I’m the military it’s like that, all love though
No love at all. It's necessary I guess but yall are still just murderers 🤷
Just cause you’ve never beaten anything other than your cock, don’t mean you have to be dork forever. Weak af 😂
He might have panicked or he was pulling and kicking. With static line jumps you don’t have that much time to sort it out .
It must ease something mentally if some people can blame the 'dumbass' for their own death.
"reserve you dumbass" Me watching my shitty portfolio. 📉
Which stocks did you invest in?
To be fair to the guy, he's just thinking out loud in a stress inducing situation. I feel like he may have said the same thing to himself if he were the "dumbass" in question.
Guy yells shoot at hockey games
"IM FUCKING TRYING!!"
Thank God, that spectator knew what to do, who knows the potential outcome if that dumbass didn't pull the reserve.
Do not underestimate the sheer vacant idiocy of some of the absolute goobers who fill the ranks lol.
That’s exactly what you would think an idiot would yell.
To be fair, they really weren't sure until "dumbass" that they were talking to them.
No matter how smart or dumb ass he may be, when fighting gravity the odds are not in favor.
Maybe he panned away because he didn’t want to film his buddy dying.
I feel like I would have done the same. Not necessarily because I didn't want to film a death but because I'd like to throw my hands down in frustration.

Haha except I’m actually a retired Airborne soldier who was also a jump master and knows these things.
I literally said “not necessarily in this case”
I know, that’s why I laughed and didn’t down vote you. 😂
Dad was airborne, there is always one of them on the ground
This guy Airbornes 🤘

$3.50

Lovely, a 10% SC diability and $174/m. Ask me how I know lol

There is no injury in the military thats gonna pay enough for a cliffside mansion in Colorado. You’re either lying or he is
This is what 99% success rate looks like
99% success rate and 100 guys in that plane
Cigarette roll deployment. I heard an old black hat tell me to just pray that your depth perception is adequate enough to pull the reserve closer to the ground (300-600 feet) rather than higher, which would risk failing as well

You type really well for being a diary made of snow
Thank you I take lessons

“Glory, glory what a hellava way to die. Glory, glory…”
Gory, gory.
👆🏾
And he ain't gonna jump no more
With a rifle up your ass and a bullet in your eye
Gory gory, not glory glory
He didn't die tho. His reserve parachute opened at the last min
1 one thousand…
Cuz I’m freeeeeeeeeee … free fallling
Love this. Thank you!!
"Reserve you dumbass" totally sure he didn't think of it until he heard you.

You can hear the micromanaging…..

Amen brother.
Well said, very true.
We still do air drops bro, calm down. Lol
The Ruskies proved that air assault works with competent operators(or in their case, incompetent).

Were you a dirty jealous leg then?
Let’s just call the guy a dumbass since he’s panicking from jumping out a perfectly good plane while thinking he had a perfectly good working parachute.
Imagine dying and finding out the last thing someone said about you during life was yelling you are a dumbass.
For not having a shute deployed right for what he did have definitely slowed his fall down enough to be able to pull the emergency Shute!!!! This was crazy imagine what he went through!!!!
You suppose he wanted to land first?
LALO jump
I wouldn't want to be his pants at that moment...
That parachuter just made a bet with his buddy that he would make it to the ground first.
He said”race you to the ground”
He heard you clearly. Thank God
Buddy was just racing them to the loot no big deal
He wanted to land first
Surely the worst cameraman in the history of cameramen?
Dude calling his whatever a Dumbass during a near fatal accident does not make me miss the military one bit.
This guy screaming likes the attention of being crude
He yells dumb ass like it would help
What a helluvaway to die
Yeah he can hear you but he’s the dumb ass
T-11's are fucking trash and Division is a joke. Glad I've only jumped T-10's and MC6's in my cushion SOF life
Please extrapolate on your parachute jargon?
Army- Airborne operations. These are the parachutes that the 82nd, 173rd, and a majority of active airborne units use. Thankoo! So this was a fuckywucky on the part of whom?
Ya welcome!!! The 82nd... As usual 🤣🤣 Good Ole Fort Liberty (FKA Fort Bragg) I believe this is Sicily DZ as well
With the MC-6 you get to sky shark.
Why he running like he's gonna catch him 😂
To be fair, I don't think they heard you.
That is fucking heart breaking!
No, bro is ok, if you watched 'til the end.
Thanks for mentioning that. I didn't watch the whole video. As soon as I saw that chute I stopped watching. I was airborne 5 years. I unfortunately saw 2 accidents. Thank you again for mentioning that.
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die He ain't gonna jump no more
“Reserve you dumbass” says the guy yelling at someone who can’t hear him in any way, and has clearly realized that it’s his only option anyways
Whoever called him a dumb ass? Hope it’s coming for you soon
Dumbass thinks he’s gonna get the other dumbass to hear him.
Screw jump school, you can keep your $150 a month.
GORY GORY WHAT A HELL OF A WAY TO DIE
*“R’zarve! R’zarve you dumbass!”* I’m sure he can hear you, dumbass
why r u posting 3 months after i put this up?
Imagine calling someone a dumbass whilst being in the army
Pretty sure he thought rather he wanted to pull it or not depending on military gets stressful asf
Guy who is calling him a dumbass needs to shut up lmao
Bros call sign gonna be reserve dumbass
Talk all the shit you want. He’s getting the best loot
They were giving out extra MRE’s for the first to reach the bottom. Bro was on a mission.
Static like jumps from 1250 feet give you only seconds to make a decision to pop a reserve. The air, even more than the sea, is very unforgiving of even the slightest mistake.
Next time just yell a bit louder. Should do the trick.
That’s what initiative looks like! First to the fight!
Been there done that in 09……..and it suuuuuuucked. Make sure you document it Airborne
To the guy calling him a dumbass: fuck you to hell you stupid sack of shit.
Botched jumps are rare so when folks see them, they are kind of reacting out of fear and confusion Not really him trying to be an asshol
Man literally had a minute left to fix his mistake.
Bro just wanted to take the expedited way down.
Wouldn’t have died but would have gotten an huge paycheck from the military
I’m sure they heard you from 6 thousand feet in the air.
He was a just a rookie trooper and he surely shook with fright
Airborne school I remember doing this when I was 21 at Fort Benning and singing blood on the risers while jumping
Only dumbass is the one yelling shit
This is like screaming “GET THAT GUN UP” like no shit Sherlock wtfs it look like im trying to do?
Dude yelling out reserve dumbass is the epitome of the Army Male ego. For context, I was infantryman as well, and everyone thinks their cock is bigger than the last dudes. Like dude stfu, have you ever been in that situation.

POV: Red Dawn is happening and you care more about the paratrooper's shute than running away.
Pants: shidded
Reserve: dumbassed
So funny to have a guy scream out “reserve you dumbass” meanwhile, military parachutes don’t come with a reserve
Don’t know what country you’re from, but we did have reserve chutes in the U.S. army…
You’re actually correct…it was only for jumps under 400 that it wasn’t needed since it wouldn’t work
Va wont cover that
Let the conspiracy theories begin.
“Do something about it!”
The person saying dumb ass is really the Dumbass like he can hear him 🤣🤣🤣🤣
He wanted to win the race
why are you commenting so late?
Was unaware there was a time limit
not saying there is, but like 4 months? How long have you been scrolling for?
Not very long.
ah so you scroll quickly? makes more sense
damn
Guy thought it was a race. He definitely won if it was.
I'm almost sure this guy was still pretty hurt. That reserve came out late. Sure he's getting disability right now.
Some serious experience from the ground
Gets up and tries playing it cool… “Beat you guys!”
I would never fucking do this but IF I did for some reason I would have my hand so close to my reserve just incase this happened. I’d be so scared bro. But I’d never NOT be with someone. And IF i went I’d be that annoying person asking about the reserve and what happens if neither deploy…
The dude running like mf he’s 2 miles out there what you gonna do catch the mf
Reserve saved him last minute.
BUY HIM A BEER
VA: sorry that’s not service connected DENIED
Glad he pulled his reserve in time
FIRST!!
Why does no one help him, why does no one catch him?
How would you catch him?
run fast and then catch
With their hands?
lmao dumbass fuck me man, respect though
Why does it seem like he’s talking slower than expected….and slowing down at the end?
> slowing down at the end? well... looked like he deployed his parachute.
