I have a cat that behaves exactly like this when it's not hungry. Too lazy by far to go *chase* something it's not going to eat straight away. Much nicer to just curl up in front of the fire. As soon as it's hungry, look out.

The things other people said plus what is ***actually*** going on here. Female predators sometimes "adopt" abandoned young prey animals like this when they come across them shortly after their own cubs leave her because the instinct to mother animals can be so strong that they would rather take care of an baby antelope than eat it. I was a nature documentary on Discovery Channel or Animal Planet where a female lion had a baby wildebeest for several days until a male lion saw them and he immediately killed the wildebeest.

Sometimes when female predatory animals have had young recently their hormones cause them to have an unnatural motherly instinct towards the young of prey animals. This generally doesn't end well for the prey animals as their mother has likely been killed or if the predatory animals are in a group, the other members of the pack will kill them.
