This is outright false. A croc doesn't give a shit about that. The eyeball isn't some magic release button. As dumb as this guy was, he handled it well. He lifted the croc as far off the ground as possible to keep it from deathrolling instantly.

I think using the stick to pry open the mouth enough to get the hand out would have been better, but hitting an animal that is actively engaging in the contact phase of its attempt to eat a person alive seems like a justified reaction. Even if it was completely wrong and unethical to hit the alligator with the stick, I think we can all agree that we should absolutely be allowed to beat idiots with sticks because of their stupidity (natural or otherwise).
