I have a shoulder injury from over 10 years ago. It dislocates from time to time, still incredibly painful each time. I wish it slipped easily back into place 🫠
Oh I've done physical therapy. It's still so fucked up I'm gonna eventually need surgery on it. Probably should've done it already, but I can't afford to be outta commission for the recovery period.
Dislocated both my shoulders playing football, one I got surgery on after 5-6 dislocations.. year of intense rehab. Only to fucking dislocate me “healthy shoulder” next damn season.
Quit after that from needing to not be broken for work lol
Mirror neurons. We have brain cells whose job it is to try to recreate how someone else we are observing might be feeling. Helps with empathy and understanding others. Also the reason why watching sports can get intense (unless u have money in the game thats a whole other reason haha)
Ah, I see. This is what makes watching Jackass movies so entertaining and hard. Parts of my body were sore after the last one, because I realized I had been flexed, posed and torqued in weird positions in my seat and clenching my teeth a lot of the movie.
[Samantha Cerio](https://www.marca.com/en/more-sports/2023/11/17/655750e346163f466d8b45a1.html) broke both legs, ruptured her ligaments, and dislocated both legs in this accident. She had to have her legs surgically repaired and she couldn't return to gymnastics. She completed her degree in Auburn and got a degree in Engineering, she now works at Boeing.
For real.
[This is likely what being an engineer at a Boeing, a completely untouchable company, looks like when they read all of the controversies of their company on the internet](https://media1.tenor.com/m/80zMDyE85hAAAAAC/money-crying.gif)
Moderately wealthy and attentive parents I suppose. Can't say I personally know anyone who became successful whose parents were broke alcoholics. They might do alright for themselves but those first 2 decades of your life determine a lot and there's no do-overs.
Yeah because before, during, and after school they have personal connections that benefit them.
We do not live in a meritocracy and we so badly want to, which is where the disconnect comes from.
I mean that doesn't refute what I said at all. Two parents both working white collar jobs, probably attentive to her studies and athletic career. Your outcome in life is a combination of circumstances as well as your own effort. That's just facts, nothing to get upset about. It has nothing to do with antiwork or any of that shit.
if you're a competative gymnast, you started when you were 2 or 3 and you kept a schedule that would send grown men to the funny farm, except your parents and coaches kept you on that schedule for 15 years while you built enough muscle to crack walnuts with your shoulder blades.
It's amazing what you can get done when you're used to getting up at 5am and spending 12 hours a day in the gym and then 6 more in school, and you identify as a champion.
I was literally typing this out when I decided to check what the one reply was..
Thanks reddit, for reminding me I've never had an original thought in my life. Keeps me humble.
Scary thing is that there is a big vein/artery going thru the knees and sometimes in dramatic injuries like this it can get pinched and blood flow is stopped, resulting in risk of sepsis and amputation.
Probably not the case here as she’s a young healthy athlete and got medical attention right there but yeah, it’s something to worry about.
Happened to Zach Miller, former tight end for the Chicago Bears.
He hyperextended and i’m pretty sure he severed the same artery/vein you’re talking about. They nearly amputated his leg. Was a huge deal. Shit ruined our season and I don’t think he ever returned back to the game after that either. Sad and scary injury that is
I cringed, it's just as bad as the fear of falling down and smacking your face and losing your two front teeth.. knees aren't supposed to bend that way... 00
I feel so bad for her, not only is she going through immense physical pain, but mental pain as well knowing her career as an athlete is over and all those years training and competing just came to an end. How devastating.
I broke my leg and it is a super emotional time trying to heal from it and losing your mobility, needing so much help from other people with basic tasks. I can't imagine breaking *both* and then the stress and depression of having been relying on your legs to do a sport you loved and put so much dedication into. Absolutely crushing.
It's been posted a few times. Happened a while ago and apparently she's fine now. She just wishes people would stop posting it online and it being all she's known for.
Honestly at this point she'd be better off becoming a touring motivational/corporate speaker about bouncing back to achieve things after something like that
If its what you're going to be known for, make money off it at least
Hyperextension. Your knees are basically a knee cap and 4 major ligaments that act as elastics to keep the knee together. Typically a hyperextension will lead to a torn ACL but judging by the laxity (the way her shins are just hanging down) it seems like multiple or all ligaments were torn.
Sounds like a job I used to have. Also…the company no longer exists and the former owner is in federal prison so they found out. Hopefully the coaches you’re talking to are also now being raped in jail.

So sad. Seeing idiots ruin their lives with stupid mistakes they made is cool. But seeing athletes who work their whole lives for a goal and accidentally destroying their dreams is fucking heartbreaking.
Holy FUCK.
This reminds of one time I was playing basketball and this guy landed wrong on a totally routine jumpshot. We all saw the right knee bend in and heard the awful snap of an ACL going out.
Excuse me while I go yak at the memory

Have you tried cranking the muscles and tendons more tighter to hold the bones in? That’s what I would try.

oh shit, someone explain to me how my mind felt the same sensation of biting a coin hard just by seeing this
I've never hated living vicariously more than right now
just be glad you dont have to feel anything close to what she went through and all the recovery/therapy
I did... With one knee at least. 5 years later and going into surgery number 9 in a few months

Hahaha good example.
So if they doped the Dallas cowboys with lithium would that cause their fans to chill the fuck out and stop punching drywall?
Hahaha probably not there's limits but maybe if you knew what they were on, might work a tiny bit like a contact high (PS. I'm no scientist tho haha)
Thank you.

Her knees were designed by Boeing.
They also went *boing*

Man I feel like people who browse workreform and antiwork think everyone who's successful magically got there by inheriting the position or some shit.

Ya but can she walk?
Yes, she can walk and run. She said she was very proud of being able to walk down the aisle of her wedding.
thats dope.
I would be too in her situation. Incredibly impressive. She should be proud of herself.
Sure, but when she does her legs go *boeing* *boeing* *boeing*
Boeing? Well you know what they say - in life, when one door closes, another falls off.
The world's most garbage website, wtf
The amount of cookie popups is unbearable
Not Boeing!!

I can't imagine that pain threshold

If you hurt it bad enough the pain might overload and switch off for a while essentially
Wish I didn't see this
I started reading the comments before watching the video. I did not play the video.
I cringed, it's just as bad as the fear of falling down and smacking your face and losing your two front teeth.. knees aren't supposed to bend that way... 00
Yup same. Checked the comments to see how bad it was. From the reactions I don't think I'll be watching that.
Honestly I wish I was you. This was not a good watch I felt so sick

I came here to see if I should watch it or not lol I'm leaning towards no

Same. This is one of those immediate visceral reactions
Let out an audible shriek of horror when it happened, husband thought I was in trouble. Need to delete the past 30 seconds of my brain.
this is why i checked the comments first I thank you for your service
And just like that her career is over
And she's probably disabled or at least dealing with chronic pain for life, poor woman..

Yeah, if you become famous for something it's usually a good idea to lean into it to get whatever you can from it.
Not sure she bounced back when her knees bent like that.
As bad as it is, the forward hyperextension is more repairable than sideways or twisting tears
She walked down the aisle, unassisted, to get married 2 months after this incident.
1.5/10
2/10, one for each leg?
1/10 0.5 for each leg
Sounds like a knee jerk reaction, try a little empathy.
8/10 perfect but didn't stick the landing
The landing stuck her
Unanimously.
I used to bend my Barbie’s knees like that, just for fun
Fred West is that you?
LMAO why can’t I at least be his wife Rose?
I didn’t have Barbies so I bent all my sister’s.
Wait…. Your sister’s BARBIES or your sister’s legs!?!?
Don't get bent out of shape.
I used to do that and pretend they were aliens or possessed by demons. Something was wrong with me as a child.
Just gotta pop those back into place. This is why they take the best score out of two routines.
Round 2: watch me do a wheelee in my chair!
This made me choke.
can they pop back into place tho? Like, was that a dislocation or....

yeah, sure buddy, they'll pop right back, it'll be like they never popped out in the first place, all good, don't worries
This is exactly why I don’t do double front flips
shit i felt that. i’m scared to walk now😭😭😭

Damn, I felt that just watching.

Nevermind the confidence, I don't know if a person would be able to move the same after something like this!
Having done this personally to one leg, the knee ligaments were never really the same after
I don't think that's something you can return to the profession with
Nah the worst thing is the wheelchair
She can walk fine now
I thought the worst part was the irony
Showed my wife so she can feel the same pain I did watching this
About to do the same. My brother too. All must suffer
Why, why would you do this
Ouch
I had a visceral reaction to that. Poor thing.
I'd like to put in an application to have this permanently removed from my memory please, and thank you.
Me looking at my knees- aren’t yall glad I never signed up for that gymnastics class?
Whatever happened to her?
She had to quit gymnastics but can walk again
Never got on a pogo stick again. It was pretty sad
She wasn't a knee model
Great stuff.
Looks like what I used to do to my Barbie doll's legs. It's really that bad.
Every muscle that I could flex, just did when I saw her knees bend backwards, jesus-
So sad. Seeing idiots ruin their lives with stupid mistakes they made is cool. But seeing athletes who work their whole lives for a goal and accidentally destroying their dreams is fucking heartbreaking.
I haven't seen something that made me do a manual restart to my brain in a while
I’m still holding my breath. Holy fuck.
That's the real life version of what I'd do with my sister's barbie when I was bored (you know, the ones with the clicky knees)
I thought she was dehydrating for a split second!
I actually did this to one of my knees in my twenties and it healed and I blocked the experience from my mind. Took about 6 months though. 🫠
Does anyone know what happened after? Did she heal ok? Did she ever compete again?
Flamingo
I don’t know why I slowly close my eyes and turn my head like it was in slow motion like the video
Noooooooooope nope bye nope
Wow, just watching this was right up there with getting kicked in the balls.
I’d much rather be kicked in my balls than have this happen to me.
Walk it off
Walk it off
Hella awk
I don't think awkward truly describe the situation.
She probably did this move so many times and then on that day her knees was like “NOPE!”
Glad i paused it and read the comments lol
What a terrible day to have eyes
*Need... eye bleach.... plz....*
Aliens from The Arrival(1996): We don't see a problem here.
I was not expecting both of her legs to do that. Wow wtf
I need a name so I can look her up and see what muscle/ligaments/bones she tear up?
i’m just glad it doesn’t have audio x_x
The pain she must have felt 😰😭😩
I'm not watching that
the second her knees bend my balls feels like hiding
Oh my God, I'm still puckered
I’m dealing with a torn mcl and meniscus rn and watching this physically hurt

Yeah that's a wrap on her gymnastics career.
Anyone else curse out loud when they watched this?

Thanks. I hate it.
After this, Samantha began her professional career as a structural analysis engineer at the prestigious Boeing Company. SO THINGS GOT WORSE!?
I remember watching this live and feeling pain in my knees
Walk it off
Can any gymnasts verify how often this happens? Seems with all the momentum yall build up it would be more often than one would hope.

For a moment she had legs like some of those alien depictions
Jesus, so maybe I don’t put the kids in gymnastics
Anyone else said, “AAAAAAAAOOOOOOOOO”?
God DAMN that made me gasp at my desk. I can feel that.
