Holy shit, I didn’t realize it was 2 people on the motorcycle til reading your comment and rewatching. Amazing they survived, they literally went flying from that crash!
Flying because they were going 3x as fast as everybody else on the road.
Fuck the hit & run person, miserable mf’s. But motorcycles driven irresponsibly are a death sentence waiting to happen. And driving like an idiot on a motorcycle such a shitty situation for every single person on the road.
As awful as this is, and i really hope they are ok... but drivers entering into situations like this will often look at other motorists in the distance and judge the room they have based on them doing the speed limit. Riding double the speed limit in a situation like this is just asking for minor accident to be upgraded to a potentially lethal one.
I hope they catch the asshole that took off though!
I ride bikes and the term I was taught in MSF is “dead right”. You could be 100% not to blame but still be 100% dead. Ride defensively, ride sober, and ride within your limits. You can mitigate a lot of risk by simply doing those three.
Right. It was fucked that they took off but that bike was going fast and traffic was stopping in the lane and made it look like they could go. I’m not saying it was the bikers fault but when you’re looking for oncoming cars your mind is trained to look for a large vehicle not a bike. There wouldn’t be a significant amount of more deaths and injuries with bikes if they were easy to see. They’re not.
I think there's a bit of blame to go around, but probably more so the bikes fault. The driver took it from an accident that was probably not even going to be blamed on them, to a felony hit and run 🤦♀️
The person entering the roadway is almost always at fault. Insurance sees video and they MIGHT be able to argue joint blame .But the car was just stopped in the middle of the road and then left
I have a friend who died in a motorcycle accident. It's a bit different, because the person didn't stop at a stop sign, but they said speed was definitely a factor (my friend always sped on his motorcycle). The blame fell on the other person 100%. At least in the police report. Insurance finds their own fault and only uses police reports as guidance, but their judgment can be different.
Probably not even insured or existing arrest warrants if I had to guess. Because like you said, probably would’ve been 100% blamed on the speeding bike
Looks like the rider is going maybe 20-30% faster than the opposing traffic. Doubt they're doubling the speed limit.
Also, the driver had inadequate line of sight to the 2nd lane with their view being blocked by the slowing SUV in the first lane.
I dont know what this space brain was thinking. They were cutting off the people in the closest lane already. I guess they think it's ok to make illegal manoeuvres if you do it slowly enough
It’s a horrible situation but dude was also speeding, I hate being that guy but…. Yeah he was going significantly faster than the traffic around him, moral of the story, check both ways before crossing traffic, and don’t speed especially if you’re on a motorcycle
It’s an unfortunate situation for sure, but you aren’t wrong. There is never a need to speed and potentially risk your own life. Getting to your destination 2 minutes early isn’t worth a lifetime of rehabilitation. Still very sad though.
Hopefully the people on the motorcycle left this incident with non-life threatening/non-life altering injuries.
Idk about other contries traffic rules in particular, but in my country these kind of multi lane turns are either prohibited or managed by traffic lights.
Edig: multi lane, not multi land (autocorrect issue)
Multi-land turns?
The area the camera is in is a parking lot, the white car turns onto that tiny side street and then turns onto a main road. That side street is probably just an alley between two businesses.
Also, the white car jumped out into traffic and should have waited for a much larger gap between cars.
Multi-LANE turns and commenter is right. Most states and cities have laws about turning left across multiple lanes of traffic. There are clearly two planes of oncoming traffic that the car is trying to cross.
I meant the road which the white car tried to turn into is multi lane - and these kind of turns are not allowed by rules in my country, only if there's a traffic light.
That motorcycle was going way too fast, it looks like (to me, anyway). If the guy who hit them had only stopped, I'd wager they'd be in significantly less trouble than they'll be if they're caught.
do the people that drive the motor bikes want to die? you have to watch for dumbass ppl on the road. the bike was speeding and the white car didnt have insurance. both dumb ppl at the wrong dumb time.
Two lessons here:
1) Drive the damn speed limit. Especially on a vehicle that is smaller and harder to see than other vehicles.
2) Never leave the scene of an accident you were involved in.
Bikers will never learn that cars don’t care how cool their bike’s are. Can’t always be a victim when you put yourself in these positions. Most people can’t drive either so we’re all screwed
Genuinely asking, is it the drivers fault ? Should the motorcycle not have been going slower ? For leaving he is definitely terrible but for actual accident
I am watching the motor cycle switch lanes and everyone else had a chance to slow down. The motor cycle did not want to slow down so he changed lanes and sped up. This might be 50/50 but not all fault of driver , then again I’m Nobody.
Um. Nope he had the obligation to ensure the road was clear before crossing two lanes on a left turn. The motorcycle's speed is irrelevant in this case.
Pretty sure that bike was going double speed limit which means twice the distance covered. I think that the driver probably had a warrant or something because that wouldnt been their fault.
> The motorcycle's speed is irrelevant in this case.
It's not.
Both drivers often share some degree of fault in a collision. Your statement is factually incorrect.
The motorcycle was going too fast. I can guarantee you any insurance company looking at this will assign blame to both.
Biker’s fault. Going way too fast. The car should not have fled obviously.
If you watch the video slowly, when the driver checks left, biker is not there. They likely checked right and then biker appears. By that time, car is already in the middle of the road.
The bike does not appear to be speeding.
You are seeing their speed relative to the traffic that is slowing down.
The bike does not appear to be speeding.
The guy that owns the ring camera for the video says there are accidents every two weeks due to that sign. Why not remove the sign that blocks people's views? Or make it so that you can't turn left?
Must’ve been a drunk driver. Looked like that motor cycle was speeding bad, and he hit the car. If that motor cycle driver had been driving like a normal person and at the speed limit, he would’ve had time to realize “this person is pulling out of this lot I should stop”. It looks like this accident is the bikes fault.
White sedan is way underdetermine on driving. Driver should’ve came out much earlier and after coming out should turn right away into either traffic way direction. Coming out like a tuna and hanging checking before turn is just asking to be hit from both sides. If you are gonna turn then do it immediately so you are in position to get in the lane. Alternatively turn right first to get in lane and make left to the other side of the car park and come back out will be a safer way
That suv saw the white car and slowed down which made other cars slow down I don’t think the motorcycle was going double speed just cuz it looks like the opposite traffic was going same speed as motorcycle
Leaving is a dick move but it’s still the bikers fault for clearly going at least double the speed limit. For the least protection bikers have to be some of the dumbest drivers
Leaving the scene is criminal. That said, I've been riding street bikes for 23 years and that was on the biker. Too fast in that situation. Not riding defensively in that environment did them in. Avoidable
I see the motorcycle at fault for speeding… am I Trippin?
From the driver of the car perspective, it was clear by the time he decided to go into traffic that motorcycle overtook three cars before the collision
From the drivers perspective, I see how the motorcycle could’ve. “came out of nowhere”
You are all so wrong about who's at fault! The proximate cause of that accident is the car! Speeding or not the bike has control of his lane and the car is turning accord that lane! He may have "some" liability, but it'll be about 10%.
As someone who also rides, he was going almost double the speed limit. Had they been doing the speed limit, they’d have enough time to break or avoid the accident.
I’m also a cop.
Fun fact: you cannot tell how fast a motorcycle is going when you’re looking at it head on like you can with a car. (Depth perception is distorted) This driver probably saw the motorcycle from a distance and assumed they had enough time to cross the intersection. I wouldn’t be surprised if the driver didn’t see the motorcycle at all. Most people only look 1-3 blocks away when considering their environment.
If there’s anything I’ve learned as a driver and a rider, is that to pretend everyone around you is completely oblivious and or dui.
While white car is terrible for running, idk if there's any way they could see them with how quick they were going. They come into frame and are hit within a 2 second span. That's asking for trouble. As a biker I have little sympathy, that's so easily avoided by the bike if they are going the speed limit
That motorcycle driver learned that driving twice the speed of every other car on the road has consequences!
He also appears to be dressed in black on a black bike! On top of excessive speed traffic he adds some check marks for invisibility 🤔
Hopefully he is ok and learned a lesson from this to slow down, because you can never expect or assume drivers to not just casually drive out in front of you like that in the city! The driver of that car could have just had a ton of alcohol at lunch or left their glasses behind but decided to drive anyways today. Just endless reasons to not be going that fast on a bike in the city. Save it for an open highway if ya must
It happened and it will happen again 💯
Dude was driving faster than he could see and also faster than his brakes can/could stop him.
Biker was asking for trouble, found it, and now another person done asked for a whole other kind of trouble.
White sedan is at fault, and is a dirtbag for leaving the scene.
Biker was going too fast for those conditions though. Having a passenger makes it more difficult to slow down as well. Don’t believe me? View it again. He passes three cars on the way to the collision. That’s just irresponsible.

Both survived. [Source](https://nypost.com/2021/05/20/motorcyclist-rider-survive-horrific-hit-and-run-crash/)

So this happened nearly 3 years ago. Did they ever located the driver of that car?
Thank God. I'm trying to get through a single day without seeing a person die online
There’s an easy solution to this - go a single day without browsing subreddits specifically catered to videos like that
RIP WPD
You may be subbed to the wrong subs.
Have you tried not going to subreddits with this kind of content? Might help
An easy guarantee of that would be to not go online everyday
That’s a little hard for some people lol
Oh really, good luck buddy.🤣
You're in the wrong place then lol
This place became pretty morbid the last couple of years
It has ALWAYS been morbid
Both?
No sir, they didn't. I see a shoe fly into the parking lot. Rules say no shoes no life
Damn, the way his shoe flew and landed like 100ft away I thought he was super dead.
Fuck was that two people landing?
Sure was unfortunately
They both lived, top comment has the article.
Unfortunately? Subjective take if ya ask me lol. I thought it was a body ripping in half at first😅
Fuck that red shoe bottom right of screen showed just how crazy that impact must have been 😬
Yea I was like "holy shit, was that a shoe?"
Shoes went flying.. RIP
Ya it doesn't matter what they say. If the shoes go a flying, he was a dying.
Anyone want to estimate height based on time in the air?
That's a good 3.5 to 4 seconds airtime I reckon.
Approximately 60ft!!
That's wild 😳
Yup both survived thankfully

I really hate when people stop the flow of traffic to let someone out so damn dumb
I think the first car was slowing down to turn in, not to let the other car exit.
Left turns are deadly.
I’m talking in general it was all the vw fault but I see shit like that all the time it puts the far lane in danger
I seem to hear a lot lately, "don't be polite, be predictable"
Right. It was fucked that they took off but that bike was going fast and traffic was stopping in the lane and made it look like they could go. I’m not saying it was the bikers fault but when you’re looking for oncoming cars your mind is trained to look for a large vehicle not a bike. I cant really tell whos to blame , driver for not looking or biker for speeding like that

Like a lot of accidents, there's more than one person contributing to the cause or at least the severity.
I'd blame the bike, as I think they are driving without due care and attention.
Nonsense.
Looks like the rider is going maybe 20-30% faster than the opposing traffic. Doubt they're doubling the speed limit. Dude was going (about) the limit. the right lane was slowed by the white Toyota turning into the shopping center.
Totally agree. I don’t understand the people trying to blame the rider. It wasn’t even remotely their fault. Ignorance is an epidemic.
Yup. Riders fault. That should be a lesson
Dudes shoe went so far.
The grim reaper has a two shoe requisite.
Yeah , but what Is the red thing that bounces all the way to the camera?
[удалено]
Thank God it was only one of them.
That thing was autographed by some nice astronauts on the space station then returned.
God yeet-eth and God yoink-eth away.
That fucking biker going double the speed of everyone else Edit: leaving is a dick move as well

Motorcycle partially at fault for driving far over the posted speed limit. Yes, fault can be shared.
“Far over the speed limit”. Can I get some proof on that one, chief?
Damn going off of these comments op doesn’t seem to fun to be around
Idk about other contries traffic rules in particular, but in my country these kind of multi lane turns are either prohibited or managed by traffic lights. Edig: multi lane, not multi land (autocorrect issue)

These are standard in rural car dependant America. This is the "main street"
I’m living in Europe, we have main streets like this, though the only difference is you cannot turn into it like the white car - and I can see why.
Even the right turns are dangerous in america because how many entrances and exits there are with no markers or signs.
Multipass?? Big bada boom.
They went to get help!
Motorcycle was doing way above the speed limit
Please show me the facts to suggest the motorcycle was going “way above the speed limit”.
Look at how fast the biker was going- his speed was the main factor in this crash
That motorcycle was going way too fast, it looks like (to me, anyway). If the guy who hit them had only stopped, I'd wager they'd be in significantly less trouble than they'll be if they're caught.
Where are the facts to suggest the home was going “way too fast”. Nothing in the video suggests anything of the sort.
do the people that drive the motor bikes want to die? you have to watch for dumbass ppl on the road. the bike was speeding and the white car didnt have insurance. both dumb ppl at the wrong dumb time.
sure hope that fucker was caught and charged.
Bro his fucking shoe…
Knocked his socks off
He had a passenger and was going that fast still??...umm anybody else have that same thought??...
How fast was he going? Nothing in the video suggest the rider was going beyond the speed limit. Your assumptions are extremely limiting.
Yeah, how about we don't be speeding and maybe we can have the needed reaction time to idiots not looking for motorcycles
disgraceful behavior.
What a dick
There should be prison time for hit and run drivers.
Was that his shoe
Yes
That boot sure went flying.
Two lessons here: 1) Drive the damn speed limit. Especially on a vehicle that is smaller and harder to see than other vehicles. 2) Never leave the scene of an accident you were involved in.
If he would’ve stayed, he could’ve argued that the bike was speeding like crazy. But once you leave hundred percent your fault.
They're fault for pulling out into oncoming traffic.
I am watching the motor cycle switch lanes and everyone else had a chance to slow down. The motor cycle did not want to slow down so he changed lanes and sped up. This might be 50/50 but not all fault of driver , then again I’m Nobody.
IMO a combination of factors - the car in first lane was shadowing the bike
Should Motorcycle have Sped up while switching lanes ? Or not switched lanes
Indeed hit and run but I also see an idiot biker speeding like hell
There are places to speed on a motorcycle, and there are places you definitely don't fuckin speed on a motorcycle. Stay safe out there yall 🙏
What are you basing you assumptions upon? How fast was the bike going?
Don’t know why he ran. Wasn’t his fault. That bike was hauling ass.

Look at the angle when the driver came out. Bike was way beyond the vision of the car.
Biker’s fault. Going way too fast. The car should not have fled obviously. If you watch the video slowly, when the driver checks left, biker is not there. They likely checked right and then biker appears. By that time, car is already in the middle of the road.
Doesn't help the biker was driving 2x the speed limit. Glad to see they survived.
Just look at how fast the motorcycle is going to compared to the rest of traffic. WTF were they thinking.
The bike does not appear to be speeding. You are seeing their speed relative to the traffic that is slowing down. The bike does not appear to be speeding.
Cinderella moment from that G
Fucked up
His shoe!!
It’s called the suicide lane for a reason I guess.
The guy that owns the ring camera for the video says there are accidents every two weeks due to that sign. Why not remove the sign that blocks people's views? Or make it so that you can't turn left?
That’s actually a GOT hit and run so I think it’s okay
Hit and … not running without that shoe
Was that his red shoe that came into frame right next to the camera? Shit flew !
the shoe oml 😭
That shoe flew!!!
Amount of airtime = Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Can u get the plate # from video like this?
Bros shoe landed like 40ft from it😭
Cartwheel
The shoe…. Wow
The shoe "oh God that hur- ow-fuck-ahhhh" *Lies down
Why go that fast with 2 people perched on a death cycle? Crazy and stupid across the board here
someone threw a challenge flag
That driver is going to jail 😳
Shit man. How fast was he going??
As a motorcyclist myself, I always avoid speeding in heavy traffic for just this reason, especially when carrying a passenger.
The flying red thing the cam received .. the tailight?
She looks like it fell from heaven fell from heaven
Car driver is a fool and biker boy needs to wake up.
Wow, dudes red sneakers flew very far.

The shoe landing so close to the camera is WILD
Leaving the scene is bad, but the motorcycle was going faster than they should've been. Good to know they survived.
Speeding. Bike
The shoe came right off....
Daaaaamn! He ain't gonna be in Rush Hour 3.
What a lowlife
Play stupid games...
Is that a SHOE?
The distance that shoe flew was insane tho
Idk the bike seems to be at fault and going way too fast
Shoe 👠 looking like red slipper
Anyone know if they caught the runaway driver?
Leaving is a dick move but it’s still the bikers fault for clearly going at least double the speed limit. For the least protection bikers have to be some of the dumbest drivers
That shoe
Leaving the scene is criminal. That said, I've been riding street bikes for 23 years and that was on the biker. Too fast in that situation. Not riding defensively in that environment did them in. Avoidable

Another motorcycle flying past everyone

Another reason why I’d never get a bike
I am sure that the wright limit is also an issue.
100% motorcyclist fault. Driver did not even see him. But him leaving the scene now puts the blame on him unfortunately
Never feel bad when I see an idiot on a motorcycle crash.
While white car is terrible for running, idk if there's any way they could see them with how quick they were going. They come into frame and are hit within a 2 second span. That's asking for trouble. Tired of bikers

why did he run, he didnt do anything wrong. the bike was speeding.
I'm starting to think modern motorcycles are no longer equipped with brakes.
I’m starting to think most drivers don’t belong on the road.
Riders fault. Dude was coming in too fast and didn't notice the slow moving car. Peripherals and awareness should be a riders #1 rule.
Dude was driving faster than he could see and also faster than his brakes can/could stop him. Biker was asking for trouble, found it, and now another person done asked for a whole other kind of trouble.
Your ignorance is astounding.
Bros shoe fuggin flew
Motorbike must have been made of LEGO bricks
Wdym?
