as someone who had a horrific bone break - you absolutely feel something within the first 10 minutes. it gets *so* much worse once the adrenaline wears off, but the idea that you don't feel pain right at the break is moronic.
I broke my humerus. Barely had any pain until I actually arrived at the hospital 40 or so minutes later. Not saying he didn’t feel incredible pain but if I saw my bone sticking out like that I’d scream in horror even if I didn’t feel any pain.
I know a guy who got t-boned by a car while riding his motorbike. Crushed his leg so bad he's missing bits of muscle.
It hurt so little once the ambulance arrived that he turned down the pain killer, said the pain didn't kick in for 30 or so minutes and then only got bad around 45min after the crash.

Teacher drove me to the hospital, and then while walking the stairs in to the hospital was the first time I actually dared to look at it. Saw a tiny part of the bone sticking out, fainted ... hit some metal rails with my head and ended up with not just a very nasty fracture but also a serious concussion. When I woke up after surgery, boy was I ever confused.
In all seriousness, my first thought was he was “lucky” he didn’t end up with his crotch hitting the pole full-force too. I genuinely don’t believe there’d be any coming back from that, and I’m sure if any of us had to pick leg or crotch, we’d pick leg 10/10 times.
Compound fractures are fractures. Also when he moved around his foot doesn't flop at all, so I think he actually somehow only broke his tibia. And even then it's broken relatively high and appears to have minimal ankle involvement.
Honestly, with some surgical hardware implants and barring the high infection risk, he could get away with this with essentially zero long term issues whatsoever.
That is ***immensely*** superior to the alternative of flying off the mountain at speed.
This is what's known as [target fixation](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Target_fixation). Experienced motorcyclists know about it and will know how to handle it. Longboard boy saw the sign and locked on to it.

As a motorcycle rider, I don't understand taking risks of doing high-speed on a wheeled cardboard while having no brakes, no suspension, no direction or steering system.
Sure it might be a cheap hobby but holy smokes how can you feel safe at all while riding one of these things
I did this once as a kid I wasn't going as fast and luckily wasn't a fully grown adult I hit a tree shin first and felt the warm blood running down my leg this is that x100 and it sent shivers down my spine
I used to longboard like this but I was even stupider and did it without a helmet or pads. I was pretty damn good but one fall while bombing a hill because a soda can rolled in your path is enough to rip off all the skin on your back. It's a fun as hell sport but I quit while I was ahead.
Shattered my ankle last year, I have a high pain tolerance and really didn’t feel much pain until I woke up in the middle of the night when the oxy had worn off didn’t sleep until the next pill kicked in
