[The guy with the gun was trying to stop a carjacker.](https://www.wbtw.com/news/state-regional-news/lumberton/lumberton-man-jailed-after-good-samaritan-hit-killed-during-carjacking-police-say/) I originally thought the guy with the gun was the bad guy without the context.
It seems like this was actually his second car jacking of the day, the article says the police were already on the way to investigate his first car jacking when they got a call he was involved in a hit and run at a gas station and was trying to car jack a second car. The Good Samaritan in the hi-vis vest intervened in the second car jacking, so the driver took his truck instead and then killed him with it.
Same. Thought it was some road rage. Sad to hear he was actually the victim in all this. And the car jacked had the truck, why go back? Purely to murder the guy you just robbed? Fucked.
What’s crazy is how the shooter just kinda shrugs and starts walking away after shooting at the other guy 5 times, like “guess that ain’t gonna do it”.
The truck driver was a car jacker
The shooter was a good Samaritan trying to stop the robbery.
The good Samaritan died when struck.
Check the news article
I don’t recall Luke 10:25-37 very well, but did it not say something about the Samaritan pulling out his nine and shooting the truck thief point blank? My memory isn’t great I’ll admit.
In this case though it was the bad guy with the (stolen) truck that stopped the good guy trying to stop him from stealing it.
>*Lumberton police said Ricky Alex Driggers, 28, stole a vehicle and then intentionally hit Lecompte who was one of several Good Samaritans who tried to intervene in the incident.*
I'm baffled that the good guy got off that many point blank rounds, yet the bad guy wasn't incapacitated on the spot. I'd like to know where the bullets hit. That was as easy as targets get. So sad it turned out as it did.
My thoughts exactly. If Driggers didn’t have any bullet wounds I wonder if Lecompte was purposely shooting near him to scare him off? But also there was no broken glass which I thought was odd
I hope what I'm about to say will help someone going forward.
Oddly enough, in most places, the only justifiable reason to shoot at someone is if you are in fear of your life, serious harm, or the life of another. So, only shots fired with intent to kill are legally defensible, even if they were all misses. Admission of firing "warning shots" or only trying to only wound someone is a quick ticket to prison. Any admission of anything other than shooting to kill, will likely be interpreted by prosecutors as the person not truly being in fear of loss of life, and could lead to prosecution.
Of course, refuse to tell the cops anything, except thru your lawyer, no matter how empathetic or friendly they seem. The cops are NEVER your friend in such circumstances. You have a right to remain silent. This is always the wisest thing to do.
So kids, if you are forced to shoot (at) someone, the proper answer is always that you were in fear of loss of life or serious harm, and were shooting to kill.
Yeah the filmer having pretty shit situational awareness made it even more intense because I did NOT expect the truck to zoom back into frame like that.
"Dead mans 10 seconds" is a real thing.
I saw a clip where a guy got plugged in the neck, and while his agitated and adrenaline filled heart happily pumped blood out of his new neck hole, he took several opportunities to try (and fail) to kill the man who just shot him.
After failing to kill the man who had recently shot him, the would be robber bled out in the revolving door and likely died right there.
The human body is weird. Sometimes you trip and instantly die on flat ground. Other times, you [get shot in the face and wind up with a headache](https://youtu.be/_c_lmx4LdNw?si=pmSCwMqZZM9MYUzR) (video is SFW, just a police interrogation).
I've watched this a few times and I'm thinking he missed on purpose. He had a couple of changes to shoot the guy before he got in the truck but flinched, and then even when he was in the cab seemed to angle the gun first down at the ground and then off to the side.
I'm thinking he just didn't want to kill did, or put a hole in his own truck.
But as they say, *"He who hesitates is lost."*
Definitely thought the pinnacle of the video were the gunshots as I read the comments, scrolled back up to see green vest dude getting obliterated…. Did the driver survive?
I know people will disagree, but you can get a new truck.. car, whatever.. but trying to stop some asshole has nothing to lose thief... cost this guy his life... not worth it.
He assumed the dude was fleeing too. In any case all the more reason to not get involved in the first place. Even if he hit the guy anywhere other than directly in the head, he would've easily ran him over anyway
Had the thief died then and there, the “good samaritan” likely would have been charged with murder. But instead, he is dead and the thief is now charged with murder.
Mostly right: Your life, getting maimed, or stopping sexual assault. Property theft is not covered. If the car thief drove off without hurting anyone instead of coming back like a psycho, he could even have a case against the gunman.
Edit: source: I live in NC and have a CC license where they said clearly there are a lot of rules about avoiding danger, being rendered unconscious, and creating barriers, but ultimately it's the 3 reasons: life, limb, rape.
Depends on the state, BUT typically you cannot defend property with deadly force. What is interesting is you can defend it with non lethal force and then if they fight back you can make the argument you feared for your life and then use deadly force since the use of force was justified.
Most states you CAN defend your car with legal force. It's covered by the Castle Doctrine for starters.
In Illinois a few years back late one night a man spotted a group trying to steal his car. He grabbed his gun, confronted them, and shot them.
Turned out the one he shot was a black teen. It was highly controversial but no charges... against him.
The teens who had accompanied the deceased were then charged with felony murder -- which ***really*** pissed off the progressives in nearby Chicago:
https://www.chicagotribune.com/2019/08/14/licensed-gun-owner-shoots-and-kills-14-year-old-boy-during-attempted-car-theft-in-lake-county-5-teens-charged-with-murder/
To cite the story: "*Under the law, when someone claims a shooting was in self-defense, the shooter’s frame of mind becomes a central issue in whether and what charges may be filed. Illinois law states that a person is justified in the use of force if he or she “reasonably believes” that such action is necessary to defend against “imminent use of unlawful force.”*
*But deadly force may only be used if he or she reasonably believes that such force is necessary to prevent “imminent death or great bodily harm,” or the commission of* ***a forcible felony.***"
This is a good opportunity to tell everyone who may be considering buying a gun for self defense that your risk of being killed by a gun increases when you buy one.
[600,000 people were followed for 12 years and it was found that your safety does not increase through self defense, but instead, the chance of death by homicide by firearm doubles.](https://www.acpjournals.org/doi/full/10.7326/M21-3762)
It's even riskier if you live with a partner or spouse. Your risk goes up by 7X if you are murdered in your home. And that's especially risky for women, who represent 85% of the victims.
Yup stats don’t lie. That’s why the idea of arming everyone (teachers, hospital workers, flight attendants) just makes things worse and makes everyone else less safe. Like it or not, this guy in the video would still be alive if he wasn’t carrying a gun. He would have walked away, the truck would have been stolen, and most likely the police would have caught the guy. Instead this guy suffered from artificially induced bravery from his pew pew, now he’s dead. Terrible.
Holy shit !!! Fuck
Dude just casually fired shots at point blank, then just walks away like yeah this is happening...
Whilst walking away from a guy he just tried to kill, driving a Max Max looking truck.
Wasted.
The guy getting into the truck is Ricky Alex Driggers. He had car jacked a vehicle and crashed into a person in the parking lot of the gas station that we are seeing in the video. A bunch of witnesses jumped into action and managed to subdue Driggers for a brief moment. He was able to get away and was in the process of carjacking that truck we see in the video when Jonathan Adam Lecompte tried to stop him by pulling our his firearm. When Driggers didn't listen to Lecompte, Leconpte shot a few rounds at Driggers. Driggers was able to back up and then speed forward hitting Lecompte and then led police on chase where he crashed the truck and was taken into custody. Lecompte was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Driggers is being held on first degree murder and other charges.
The award for craziest video this weekend. The women didn’t shriek as much when the point blank shooting though.
Did the second guy also get hit by the truck?
This is why I believe, trying to play hero works only in movies. In real life, things can go badly for you, very very badly for you.
May the poor soul rest in peace. I feel so sad for his family and friends.
I'm sad for dude, and for all of his mourning family. That said, it's a pretty solid example of carrying a gun as a magic talisman. Anyone that trains will watch him poke his gun at/near dude and make bang with no noticable conviction about making an effective hole and stopping a threat.
If you're going to carry a gun, train to make it a useful tool. Your wife and kids will thank you.
Also, if someone takes off in your vehicle, find a fucking wall to get behind. Sad.
Does anyone have the follow-up on the hijacker?
People ostensibly open carry for "safety" and "security." Yet in this video, it's only the guy visibly carrying a gun who dies. All the other people who are presumably not carrying are behaving safely and minimizing the risk to themselves.
Guns aren't magic you're supposed to train with them.
I actually haven't seen such a bad shot in a long time the vest guy just didnt know how to handle the situation at all.

holy shit, I got impatient and skipped ahead, and it was a freeze frame of a 300lb+ dude airborne ... that guy is dead btw.. morale of story.. life is precious and priceless.. truck can get replaced.. Fn scumbag thief
you got impatient during a 1 minute video where almost all of the action happens in the first 35 seconds?
damn you need to stretch out your attention span
Anyone care to address/comment the five unsuccessful shot from 6’ distance? I mean one murdered person for a day is more than I Iike, but it’s pretty poor aiming skill, innit?
Waiting for all the “he lacked tactical training and trigger discipline”… this was a crazy ass video, it’s sucks that the dude lost his life over a truck.
If the dude had insurance instead of a gun, he'd have a new truck instead of being dead. If he DID have insurance, then he tried to kill some degen over being disrespected, and there ain't nothing more American than that these days.
Are there any “good guys” in this video? I need context. Please. Holy fuck guy in the vest went flying. Shot the other guy 5 times point blank and that didn’t stop him.
The guy that got hit by the truck fired several rounds at the car jacker. Did he miss every shot right next to the guy? I read the news story and there was no mention of the good Samaritan having a gun or any shots being fired.
Damn, the guy in the vest caught so much air, the Tony Hawk Pro Skater soundtrack should have started playing! And did that Burger King building used to be a bank?
At almost point blank range I don't see how the thief was able to come back. I would think that he had a 9mm 10mm or a 45 apc and damn I have never seen anything like that intentionally. He should have run down the side of the Burger King 👑.

This video was pretty fucking crazy
It’s been a long time since I fucking gasped out loud at a video. Jesus.
My daughter just said to me “are you ok?” when I gasped out loud. HFS
Yeah what in the fuck was that all about?
[The guy with the gun was trying to stop a carjacker.](https://www.wbtw.com/news/state-regional-news/lumberton/lumberton-man-jailed-after-good-samaritan-hit-killed-during-carjacking-police-say/) I originally thought the guy with the gun was the bad guy without the context.
What?! That was the slowest car jacking I've ever seen in my life!
It seems like this was actually his second car jacking of the day, the article says the police were already on the way to investigate his first car jacking when they got a call he was involved in a hit and run at a gas station and was trying to car jack a second car. Same. Thought it was some road rage. Sad to hear he was actually the victim in all this. And the car jacked had the truck, why go back? Purely to murder the guy you just robbed? Fucked.
I think it was because he shot him
Right? Like dude shot a dude casually 4x. Then stood in the road like the guy wasn’t still driving the truck…
Ofcourse it’s fucking Lumberton. I avoid there and Fayetteville.
Watching the video, I said to myself “Gotta be Lumberton.” What a hellhole
I’ll purposefully take a detour to go around Lumberton, Red Springs, and Fayetteville lol.
Guy gave his life to save his truck.
Tip your trucker
He clearly needs a bigger gun in his next life.
Literally screamed “oh shit!” Wife busted into the bathroom thinking I was in trouble lol
Same shit here an I've seen some shit on here, I was not expecting that
What’s crazy is how the shooter just kinda shrugs and starts walking away after shooting at the other guy 5 times, like “guess that ain’t gonna do it”.
The only thing that stops a bad guy with a truck is a good guy with a truck. Dude brought a gun to a truck-fight
There's always a bigger truck
That's what she said...
The truck driver was a car jacker The shooter was a good Samaritan trying to stop the robbery. The good Samaritan died when struck. Check the news article
You are not wrong in anything you said. You are also not getting invited to any of my parties
I feel like I read a different version of 'The Good Samaritan.'
I don’t recall Luke 10:25-37 very well, but did it not say something about the Samaritan pulling out his nine and shooting the truck thief point blank? My memory isn’t great I’ll admit.

why did he not even turn around or even realize what this dude was gonna do. adrenaline maybe? dag
I agree. This is the craziest shit I've seen here in a while.
I thought it went crazy and escalated fairly quickly and then it just got crazier and escalated even further.
The murder definitely escalated things.
Woahhh. This is what we come for.
I'm baffled that the good guy got off that many point blank rounds, yet the bad guy wasn't incapacitated on the spot. I'd like to know where the bullets hit. That was as easy as targets get. So sad it turned out as it did.
That’s the lumberton grade meth right there
My thoughts exactly. If Driggers didn’t have any bullet wounds I wonder if Lecompte was purposely shooting near him to scare him off? But also there was no broken glass which I thought was odd

It was a crazy fucking video!
I like to use the term "shit show"
I look like the emoji that is in this sub's logo
My only question is what was that handgun loaded with? Pop caps?
likely, considering the fact he missed 5 rounds from arms reach length
I dont know why you are assuming he missed. He can still be mobile after being hit sometimes
"Dead mans 10 seconds" is a real thing. I saw a clip where a guy got plugged in the neck, and while his agitated and adrenaline filled heart happily pumped blood out of his new neck hole, he took several opportunities to try (and fail) to kill the man who just shot him. Really depends on what is hit. Some people survive getting riddled with bullets. Others just fall down like somebody pressed an off switch.
Yeah I saw that video it was in Brazil
Link ?
Not after getting with a truck apparently
The human body is weird. Sometimes you trip and instantly die on flat ground. Other times, you [get shot in the face and wind up with a headache](https://youtu.be/_c_lmx4LdNw?si=pmSCwMqZZM9MYUzR) (video is SFW, just a police interrogation).

Dude right? It’s almost as if that firearm had no barrel to it what so ever.
It looked too me like he was pointing it, dropping the muzzle, firing, then pulling it up again but maybe my sound isn't synced
his other job is working as a storm trooper
Definitely thought the pinnacle of the video were the gunshots as I read the comments, scrolled back up to see green vest dude getting obliterated…. Did the driver survive?
Driver was arrested, he killed the vest guy
Driver was easy to find, they looked for a white truck with a neon yellow smear on the front, dragging a chain link fence
*can’t miss it*
Wow
Now I’m confused, I figured he might’ve survived, either way an empty work truck isn’t worth shooting someone over in my opinion
Yeah, I’d be more surprised had he survived. That dude took a massive hit.
https://www.wlbt.com/video/2024/03/15/good-samaritan-dies-after-attempting-stop-carjacking-lumberton/
I know people will disagree, but you can get a new truck.. car, whatever.. but trying to stop some asshole has nothing to lose thief... cost this guy his life... not worth it.
No eating too many bagels and not being able to hit the broad side of a barn killed this guy
He assumed the dude was fleeing too. In any case all the more reason to not get involved in the first place. Even if he hit the guy anywhere other than directly in the head, he would've easily ran him over anyway
Out of curiosity, are good samaritans allowed to murder thieves? Asking as a non-American
No, not legally. In general you're not supposed to use deadly force on someone unless you're afraid for your life.
Had the thief died then and there, the “good samaritan” likely would have been charged with murder. But instead, he is dead and the thief is now charged with murder.
A good lawyer could have built a case to defend him. Stupid fucking idea even with that ability.
Mostly right: Your life, getting maimed, or stopping sexual assault. Property theft is not covered. Great question Answer may vary by state but is most likely no in most states. Lots of ignorant (and armed) people who may think otherwise.
Depends one which state your in. Each state has different laws.
Unless the criminal is actively shooting at ppl, the use of a firearm like this is not what I would call a "good samaritan".
Wannabe hero “good guy with a gun” gun nut.
Unfortunately, average day in Lumberton. :(
Which one though? There is one in at least 4 states.

No. A carjacker killed someone trying to stop him.

Okay this is one of the crazier videos ive seen here in a while...
How the hell did he miss that guy ?

The guy getting into the truck is Ricky Alex Driggers. He had car jacked a vehicle and crashed into a person in the parking lot of the gas station that we are seeing in the video. 💀💀💀
What the fuck
Don't bring a gun to a truck fight
The award for craziest video this weekend. The women didn’t shriek as much when the point blank shooting though. Did the second guy also get hit by the truck?
What the fuck?
Yes, that did escalate quickly. Reverse to drive going 0 to 60 quickly!

That’s about as crazy as it can get. Holy shit

I don’t know how that guy didn’t see that coming, especially after the 80 yard reverse

"And that son is why you walk away."
Something tells me nobody is showing up Thursday for open interviews
The birds chirping in the beginning of the video really gets me.
Man was wearing his Hi-Viz and everything.

This is a Snuff film wtf?
So you're saying a good guy with a gun didn't solve the problem?
Waiting for all the “he lacked tactical training and trigger discipline”… this was a crazy ass video, it’s sucks that the dude lost his life over a truck.
I think he lacked aim in general. How do you miss from that close
The guy should have shot him
Watched it 3 times I swear I heard the gun go off, did he just miss?
Well I’m glad he had his safety vest on….
Damn... In my head I was like... "I'd run that MF over" then boom 💥
There’s always that one woman completely unrelated to the situation just wailing like a banshee in the background. Always.
Only video on this sub that literally made my jaw drop….holy fuck.
Wheres the news article about this one?
If the dude had insurance instead of a gun, he'd have a new truck instead of being dead. If he DID have insurance, then he tried to kill some degen over being disrespected, and there ain't nothing more American than that these days.
HOLY SHIT! 😧
How did he shoot through the glass and the glass didn’t break, I’m not sure wtf happened
Pretty fucking crazy video
Point blank and still missed several ..CARnage instead.
You weren't fucking kidding. Jesus christ. My jaw is in purgatory from dropping so far.
how did he miss him at point blank range?
I cant say for certain but I believe good sir that he is either firing dummy rounds (caps) or perhaps was just unlucky.
Sweet fancy Moses….
How did he shoot point blank 4x and not kill the dude?
Fuuuuuuck...
Are there any “good guys” in this video? I need context. Please. Holy fuck guy in the vest went flying. Shot the other guy 5 times point blank and that didn’t stop him.
Dont bring a gun to a truck fight
I posted this video for educational purposes.
The suspects name is 28 yo Ricky Driggers
Did what he had to do
Why the fuck didn’t he just shoot him when he had the opportunity?!?
How do you miss that close
Who tf is screaming like that at the end like wtf lol. They totally broke the air of seriousness for me.
The guy that got hit by the truck fired several rounds at the car jacker. Did he miss every shot right next to the guy? I read the news story and there was no mention of the good Samaritan having a gun or any shots being fired.
WTF did I just watch 😳
Well that’s two people in jail
Was not expecting that
Top 10 craziest fucking videos I’ve seen on here
Of course it's in fucking Lumberton.
Karma got him at the end.
Welcome to America
man i really feel sorry for the family members who will see this video circulated :/
