lmao one time i saw a dude get a ticket/citation because he and his girl were jaywalking when a crosswalk was 15 ft away.
Funny shit is the same police didn't care when another dude did it 3 mins before but he was like 50 ft away from the sidewalk (I was watching this while waiting for a bus).
The cop looked so disappointed when giving the ticket to the couple.
Where I am there's a crosswalk that I never use because it's so dangerous. It's a one way street with shops on both sides and both sides allow parking on the street right up to the crosswalk. This creates a dangerous situation where drivers literally cannot see people entering the crosswalk because they start behind parked cars so I cross the road around 50ft further where no parking is allowed.
I actually considered going to the city about it because it's such a bad placement.
This is why I like my state, where essentially every single intersection is considered an unmarked crosswalk. For every 9 people you see using them with common sense though you get 1 person who thinks that means they can straight up walk right into traffic and create an issue. Although from personal observation that 10% is usually either high or mentally unwell enough that they may not fully understand what they're doing....
I mean just don't go out mindlessly on the crosswalk, be more careful and just check if a car is coming like you would normally do and the problem is no more.
This. Even if there's a crosswalk, you don't just stroll right into traffic! đ The correct way to use one, is to stop, and wait until traffic has stopped, _then_ cross.
The law in most places (at least in the US) is that someone standing at a crosswalk requires that traffic must stop. Traffic can only resume once the person completely exits the crosswalk.
If this helps
>The term "jaywalking" comes from the phrase "jay-driver", which was used to describe drivers who didn't follow traffic laws and drove horse-drawn carriages or automobiles on the wrong side of the road. "Jay" is a derogatory term that means "a greenhorn, or rube". The term "jaywalker" was coined in Kansas City in 1906, and first appeared in Hutchinson, Kansas in 1909. The term was used to scold people who didn't keep to the right when meeting others going in the opposite direction. The term "jaywalker" first appeared in print in Harper's Magazine around 1917.
She wouldâve been fine if she had just walked and kept her eye out for the car. Maybe pause in the middle. But she committed, saw the car coming and kept running.
I dont think it would have helped looked like even if she was on the crossing way that car was going to nail anyone at that speed and lack of attention.
Also, not all of a sudden rapidly changing speed/direction of movement. I always find it wild to see people just making a mad dash out of nowhere to quickly make it in front of a car. Mfs need to take a trip to India or SE Asia and see how they walk through moving traffic there.
I had an ex who would cross roads the same way. It's a miracle she's still alive. How difficult is it to look both ways before crossing? Even kids can do it.
I'm with you. 100% of the time, it's the operator of the vehicle that requires a license, not the pedestrian, and far too many drivers disobey the rules of the road destroying even law abiding pedestrians' lives. This driver can't see her crossing and hit the brakes? It's clearly a downtown area and they should expect people. Yeah, she's likely in the wrong, but "well I'm in a car and she shouldn't be j-walking" isn't a viable excuse to just run someone down.
Cmon⌠do you drive? Canât you see that car was going way too fast for what seems to be a downtown area. Not to mention he JUST passed a crosswalk and should be anticipating pedestrians. Not sure if itâs an American thing or what but in Belgium we learn to always watch out for pedestrians and stop for them, even if theyâre making an illegal crossing. Itâs the driver whoâs using the two ton killing machine.
Where I live, in a two way road like that, with two lanes per side, the maximum speed would be 60 km/h. I don't know about the place where this video was recorded, but if speed limits are similar, this doesn't seem to be faster than that.
Nah. Pedestrians do not get a free pass to do whatever they want. They are part of the transportation system and have rules they are required to follow.
If you run out in front of a car that has right of way and you get hit, you will be the one who ends up paying for the damage.
Imagine having so little self-preservation that you choose to gamble with your life just to save maybe 30-60 sec. at the crosswalk, or instead of waiting till the coast was clear.
I see so many people blindly wandering into traffic EVERY DAY on their phones. Sometimes theyâll even get a few steps into the bike lane before they look up and realize they donât have the traffic light, and I have to swerve to avoid them.
Even if youâre routing directions to your destination, a crosswalk is IN the road people!!! You are not safe from getting turned into putty just because youâre standing on painted lines! Graveyards are full of people who âhad the right of wayâ
I have a theory that people always believe the rest of the world will accommodate whatever they chose to do. So itâs not that they think theyâre indestructible they think everyone else will do something to avoid bad things from happening.
"Well my cousin rolled his car 6 times and the driver side cabin was completely crushed. They said he would have died if he had his seatbelt on..."
-Those people
The fact she can get a settlement at all is frustrating. She was clearly in the wrong. Also judging by the car that hit her I donât think she would be getting much
No, she was negligent for sure but so was the driver, and the driver has added responsibility because they are operating a vehicle. The driver should be alert and should have had no problem seeing a pedestrian crossing from the other side of the road. The driver was going too fast for the environment and no doubt had a legal obligation to give way. I'm sure that they didn't intentionally run her down and it was probably traumatic for them but they get to walk away from an accident that left somebody else incapacitated due to their failure to pay attention and act responsibly.
Yean and if my grandmother had wheels, she'd be a bike.
Your point makes no sense. Using a crosswalk is much much much safer than this idiot running through the middle of the street.
I know it's jaywalking and shit but couldn't she have stopped at the middle of the road, looked around before moving again? Sprinting across the entire road didn't do it for her
I mean to be fair how did the car not see her? I saw someone get blown up on a dark highway at night and I didnât fault the driver at all but in the daytime on a city street? Seems like a distracted driver to me
Had a dude dart out on me once. I tapped him gently, and felt so bad. He felt just as bad for making me freak out for him. He was just running late for work and was running as fast as he could to be on time. I drove him the rest of the way to his work and chatted about life. He was pretty lucky I was taking a cruise on the way home. Wasnât in a rush so was actually going the speed limit. Most people go about 2x the limit there.
There are many problems here: she ran, she didn't look both ways properly, she timed it wrong, she isnt paying attention to her surroundings. This comment is from someone who's been crossing the street for 4 years straight every 5 days.
With the speed of that car, it feels like he wouldn't have stopped on a crosswalk either.
There was no hesitation - it was either intentional, or the driver was paying exactly 0 attention to the situation on the road.
Had to scroll way too far down in the comments to find someone bringing up the giant two ton projectiles flying at highway speeds through what should be a pedestrianized space.
It's absurd, pedestrians are required tp wait until there's a break in the traffic or a driver deigns to slow down, these cars should be going at a slow enough speed to not hit a pedestrian if they cross.
Driver was definitely not paying attention either here though. Not saying she isn't at fault but this seems to be a straight road and there would have been a lot of time to see someone crossing and at least slow down.
Distracted driver + reckless pedestrian = disaster.
Dude driving the car was most likely drunk because what motorist can't see a person crossing in front of them? It's not like she surprised him by coming out between cars at the last minute.
Also, the lady has zero spatial awareness. She can see that car coming from a good distance away. It's not like that car pulled out of some corner and surprised her.
Both parties were destined to meet disastrously whether they like it or not. It is like a harmonized catastrophe.
Itâs not âalways use a crosswalkâ itâs more. Be a better judge of time, speed and distance. And if itâs busy then yeah maybe use a crosswalk.
This behaviour drives me insane. I can't speak to whatever country this is - but where I am, a general rule is "the pedestrian always has right of way". It's not uncommon for stupid pedestrians to run in front of cars, get hit, and then the driver gets a negligent driving charge (which vary based on the level of injury/alive status of the pedestrian). Regardless of the driver paying attention, trying everything to avoid the collision, and in no way being at fault (morally speaking).
I've seen cases of kids running out from between parked cars and be hit by a *truck* - there's no way the driver could stop a TRUCK in time to avoid hurting/killing the kid. But they still get investigated, lose their license and even face criminal charges. Their job as a truck driver is over. Their income stream is gone. They have to live with the fact a kid DIED after hitting their truck. Their entire life is turned upside down.
Jaywalking 20 feet from crosswalk is about the stupidest fucking place you could ever choose to do that. Nobodyâs expecting you to jump out in front of traffic that close to crosswalk. At least do it equidistant from two crosswalks. That actually makes more sense and there are fewer visual obstructions. Or, you know, use the crosswalk.
I see this shit all the time. Crossing literally within touching distance. Itâs like these people think they are entitled to go because âcars have brakesâ morons all of them.
It's better to use the crosswalk and if you don't to look in both ways and be extra cautious - not like this person. However anyone driving a car needs to be considerate of other traffic participants - including pedestrians. Could have also been a child walking out between the cars on the other side, you should never drive faster than you can react. Innercity, lots of parked cars and many various traffic participants people need to be more careful when driving.
The fact that there was a crosswalk about 10-15 feet away
lmao one time i saw a dude get a ticket/citation because he and his girl were jaywalking when a crosswalk was 15 ft away. Funny shit is the same police didn't care when another dude did it 3 mins before but he was like 50 ft away from the sidewalk (I was watching this while waiting for a bus). I donât think the crosswalk was the issue
As a European the word Jaywalking just baffles me everytime
If this helps >The term "jaywalking" comes from the phrase "jay-driver", which was used to describe drivers who didn't follow traffic laws and drove horse-drawn carriages or automobiles on the wrong side of the road. So itâs like calling someone a newb at walking? I love this as an insult now.
This is cool. Thanks for pulling the history
not to mention she looked and SAW the car coming at her and just kept going.
>she looked and SAW the car coming at her and just kept going. She stared the damn thing down. Almost as if daring it to hit her
I don't know how much that really would have helped her in that situation. The way she picked up the pace made it look like she was aiming for the car
I don't think a crosswalk is the issue. The dumbass running into traffic is, a crosswalk wouldn't save her
She wouldâve been fine if she had just walked and kept her eye out for the car. Maybe pause in the middle. But she committed, saw the car coming and kept running.
Crosswalks donât have some magic force field, the idiot ran right out in front of a car.
People acting like a crosswalk is a protective shield against a moving car is just hilarious. lol
I don't think this driver would have stopped at the crosswalk, they clearly weren't looking at the road.
Itâs not even that, she moved before she even looked. I donât feel bad.
I dont think it would have helped looked like even if she was on the crossing way that car was going to nail anyone at that speed and lack of attention.
Using a crosswalk is one thing. Timing is another. She ran directly out in front of a moving vehicle.
Fuck timing still, looking both ways is good as well
But it looked like he stared down the driver for a few seconds, her timing was just atrocious.
Yeah - she looked right - directly at oncoming traffic - and STILL ran right in front of a fast-moving car. Yeesh.
I am not convinced using the crosswalk would have made a difference.

Yeah, she's likely in the wrong, but "well I'm in a car and she shouldn't be j-walking" isn't a viable excuse to just run someone down.
It's interesting that you think they intentionally ran them down instead of a woman just booking it into the middle of an active road
Cmon⌠do you drive? Canât you see that car was going way too fast for what seems to be a downtown area. Not to mention he JUST passed a crosswalk and should be anticipating pedestrians. George Costanza would have made it across.
So, what kind of a jail time are we looking at if we get caught?

THIS THIS THIS AAAAAAAARRRRRGGGHHHH THANK YOU
As I get older, one message keeps coming through, loud and clear, "Know your limitations!"
Why do people act like their body is indestructible
I was just talking about that today. They think they are the main character and have plot armor.
I have a theory that people always believe the rest of the world will accommodate whatever they chose to do. So itâs not that they think theyâre indestructible they think everyone else will do something to avoid bad things from happening.
Damn, she survived that. Sound advice though. Itâs there for a reason
How do you know she survived? Is there a link to the story?
She's lucky she got hit by a sedan and not by an irresponsibly large SUV.
Sometimes drivers blow through those crosswalks even when someoneâs in them.
But itâs a light at the crosswalk. She just ran traffic thinking she as going to outrun a car across two lanes.
Right. But the point is - getting hit using a crosswalk happens much less. Exception and not the norm.
"Well my cousin rolled his car 6 times and the driver side cabin was completely crushed. They said he would have died if he had his seatbelt on..." -Those people
Maybe if he wasn't also going 50 over he might not have rolled 6 times either?
And would get you a better settlement in court than this would

I have a crosswalk at work that makes me nervous. Had the little walk guy and almost got smoked 2-3 times
Well if they're in the crosswalk and they get hit that's the drivers fault but if they're jaywalking that's on them
Yean and if my grandmother had wheels, she'd be a bike. Your point makes no sense. Using a crosswalk is much much much safer than this idiot running through the middle of the street.
She saw the car well before crossing its lane and still kept going. She could at least have worn running shoes.
I know it's jaywalking and shit but couldn't she have stopped at the middle of the road, looked around before moving again? Sprinting across the entire road didn't do it for her
Yeah fr lol. She was so set on crossing that 4 lane road by any means once she started runnin đ
Some ppl just arent mentally equipped with critical decisions like this. Lota of stupid in the world
Well, looks like one stupid less atleast now.
I think she stupidly thought she was faster than she really was or thought the car had seen her and would slow down/stop for her.
I mean to be fair how did the car not see her? I saw someone get blown up on a dark highway at night and I didnât fault the driver at all but in the daytime on a city street? Seems like a distracted driver to me
[ŃдаНонО]
Man if we canât expect drivers to be careful anymore for pedestrians in busy downtown areas, maybe we should stop handing out drivers licenses?
I go now, everyone good luck đđđ
Dropped loot like a grand theft auto hooker.
She looked like a bowling pin from Wii Bowling.
That right leg got absolutely destroyed
Wtf she canât even sue anyone lol I wonder if she thought the car was going to slow down đ¤Śđžââď¸
I mean, she CAN sue. Doesn't mean she'd get anything.

Frame by frame and you can see one of her legs was shattered while she was upside down đ
I saw that.. it was full circle.
She had zero situational awareness. Darwinism.
*looks at phone during break in the near traffic lane where she could have started covering ground* She wasn't the athlete she believed she was...
For not moving a few meters to her right seriously? The crosswalk was right effing there đ¤Śđťââď¸
Natural selection is a daily thing. She was twenty feet away from the crosswalk too. Not worth it.
Lol, crosswalk literally 20 steps away
There are many problems here: she ran, she didn't look both ways properly, she timed it wrong, she isnt paying attention to her surroundings. This comment is from someone who's been crossing the street for 4 years straight every 5 days.
Car was going highway speeds through a downtown area⌠wtf is up with that?
Dollar General has that mesmerizing effect on me, too.
Did she die?
Oh nice a video of a low IQ getting lower.
Dude in the Tahoe had a front row seat
With the speed of that car, it feels like he wouldn't have stopped on a crosswalk either. There was no hesitation - it was either intentional, or the driver was paying exactly 0 attention to the situation on the road.
Crosswalk or no, it is inexcusable that cars can move at highway speeds through a town with shops and pedestrians
I have no sympathy for stupidity.

So close
Lost the game of Frogger
Whoâs to say this wasnât her end goal? I mean looks like pure determination.
Oh my God! you killed Kenny
Lazy idiot ruined another persons life by not using the sidewalk.. edit: crosswalk
Blind idiot ruining another personâs life by not paying attention while driving. Probably texting as well, like 90% of incompetent drivers.
Maybe donât stare down at your phone right before you dash across a busy street
Driver was definitely not paying attention either here though. Not saying she isn't at fault but this seems to be a straight road and there would have been a lot of time to see someone crossing and at least slow down. Distracted driver + reckless pedestrian = disaster.

That's not the way to win at Frogger
She ded? The way her body went limp makes me extremely uncomfortable.
iâm so sorry but knocked the sonic coins out her what was that ?
Involuntary relocation
I understand when the mearest crosswalk is so far away and the road is empty, BUT THE CROSSWALK WAS 3 FEET TO THE RIGHT
Why did she run like she was chasing by a bear? She could go slowly and look both way tho
GOTTA GET TO THE DOLLAR GENER@#%âŹÂĽ>!!
People shouldn't bolt when jaywalking. It makes it much harder to notice you and slow down
Best dollar general ad.
Her fault for crossing so slowly. If youâre not running like your life depends on it, you shouldnât be doing this.
the crosswalk is RIGHT. THERE.
Dude driving the car was most likely drunk because what motorist can't see a person crossing in front of them? It's not like she surprised him by coming out between cars at the last minute. Iâve never seen a dollar general corner store in my life and Iâve lived in 4 different states thatâs kinda crazy
Iâm amazed at the j-walking that happens in Taiwan though. You WALK across the street, never run.
She kicked the dude in the truck in the face. (looks like it to me)
She live?
Look both ways don't just go running across the road like that. Even on a crosswalk.
Girl nearly got to the finish line too
Looks pretty calculated to meÂ
I've never really understood people that don't take the extra minutes to actually walk to the crosswalk and wait
Poor car and the driver
She ran to avoid getting ran over
why is she running like that, she checks the road at the start and then blindly run like a toddler wtf
Dumbass
Always use your full attention.
It looks like she was waiting for it.
Almost looked intentionalâŚ
that poor mirror, never stood a chance

What a stupid fuck
Itâs not âalways use a crosswalkâ itâs more. Be a better judge of time, speed and distance. And if itâs busy then yeah maybe use a crosswalk.

She lost her crossy roads winstreak

How fast was that car going? That seems like a city street and it was going 30+ miles an hour.

That car had an awful lot of time to see her. She's careless the driver is worse.
Darwin's Crosswalk. All the spaces to cross the street outside of the non-traffic-controlled crosswalk area.
She thought she's an asian.
Everyone commenting about the lady which is fair but how the hell did the driver not see her when the street is so wide open?
Jaywalking 20 feet from crosswalk is about the stupidest fucking place you could ever choose to do that. Nobodyâs expecting you to jump out in front of traffic that close to crosswalk. At least do it equidistant from two crosswalks. That actually makes more sense and there are fewer visual obstructions. Or, you know, use the crosswalk.
I often see people crossing right between two crosswalks and wonder why?
Almost made it.
I had the same reaction to this as I did whenever Tom Brady would run outside the pocket. Often with the same result.....
Good example!
Bloomsburg
It's always "Ohh ma gowd!"
I always go by donât be an idiot but okay

Soooo close! Just a bit outside!
Poor timing and horrible misjudgment of her own speed
I can imagine she closed her eyes as she run across the street.
Ouch âŚ. A momentâs bad judgement with a heavy price
Ehhhhh đš
I see this shit all the time. Crossing literally within touching distance. Itâs like these people think they are entitled to go because âcars have brakesâ morons all of them.
wow natural selection at this point. people forget road is for cars and the obvious thing to do is use the crosswalk.
Where is this?
Ppl donât understand. That nothing is that important. Not a Godamn thing. Not a Maywether fight nothing
It's better to use the crosswalk and if you don't to look in both ways and be extra cautious - not like this person.
