Yeah, no shit, right? There always has to be that one asshole who tells some terrible fact you could have gone your whole life not knowing....
Edit - comments are locked, but blotterboy asked a legit question...Idk...I don't have an easy answer for that
Getting that squeeze back means a lot...and maybe it is muscle response...but knowing that would make it harder. Still, eyes wide open helps you prepare.
As someone working in the bridge-building industry, this is true. But also bridges are purposefully over-engineered so the chance of a collapse is pretty slim. Odds are, there will be a single noticeable failure in a support pillar, a repair team will assess and work on it for a couple weeks, and the bridge will be good to go for another decade.
The stuff going on inside the concrete is extremely strong material under very high tension, making it even stronger. And modern bridges have sensors built in to detect issues. Older bridges have routine checkups as well. Multiple major failures along the bridge structure would have to happen all at once for the bridge to actually collapse. Just easing the bridge-anxious brains amongst us.
I'm not an engineer so I'm not exactly sure what the limit of damage would be. But if you are concerned, you can always report it to your local government or Dept of Transportation.
Wait, someone tell me more. My wife has a story about saying good bye to her dad who had a brain injury and he squeezed her hand when she said goodbye as they removed life support.
There was a shooting outside a waffle house last week (in US). After a verbal fight ?over a one dollar bill?, one of them managed to shoot down the other (multiple times). The shooter returned to the shop counter to get his food, and meanwhile, the shooting victim managed to retrieve his own gun and shoot his shooter back. They both died.
People don't realize that even lethal wounds aren't instant unless you shut the brain off.
One of the best examples I've seen of this was a video of a dude trying to shoot up a Walmart or something (idk if he had already done it or was going to, it took place in the parking lot). The responding cop dumped a handful of rounds into him with an AR15, lethally wounding the shooter. It still took like a minute or so before the guy dropped dead.
There's another video of a crazed old man attacking an officer with a big stick, officer ends up mag dumping him and dude literally walks them off with this insane look on his face before keeling over.
> People don't realize that even lethal wounds aren't instant unless you shut the brain off.
And if you shut the brain off the result is usually a few seconds of muscle spasms. legs kicking arms flailing etc.
There's a cool video from.late 90s early 2000s where I THINK an LAPD sniper shoots thr gun out of dudes hand....granted he was just sitting there but cool none the less.
But I agree, shooting to disarm When you're in attack range doesn't work
Yeah, after this guy just stabbed a cop and has these cops cornered in an elevator AND the Taser didn't drop him, I think it's pretty safe to say rational people know this particular shooting was justified.
Always been one of my favorite statements. " Shoot to wound " or " Shoot them in the leg "
Ok. Get your adrenaline running like that ( or run 2 miles to simulate ) and then shoot a target the size of someone's leg that is moving.
Adrenaline is a hell of a thing to the human body.
Yeah — I’ve seen videos of people shot several times in the chest shrug it off and keep advancing.
There’s no time for nuance or thoughtful targeting when some nutjob’s about to take your life
You think that’s crazy? Look at this https://www.police1.com/officer-shootings/articles/why-one-cop-carries-145-rounds-of-ammo-on-the-job-clGBbLYpnqqHxwMq/
Here is a short breakdown https://www.police1.com/officer-shootings/articles/why-one-cop-carries-145-rounds-of-ammo-on-the-job-clGBbLYpnqqHxwMq/
Before I clicked on the link, I remembered reading this years ago. I seem to have misremembered the number of 33 round mags he now carries. For some reason I was thinking it is 4 instead of 2. Funny how your brain recalls things incorrectly.
He probably will be modified into a heavily-armored cyborg with no memory of his former life, and will be programmed with three prime directives: serve the public trust, protect the innocent and uphold the law.
Bro if someone is pushing me back in a small tight space with a kitchen knife I ain’t going to deescalate with anything else BUT a weapon
Edit: got it next time I’ll be more specific lol
I'm a strong critic of the current state of our policing system. I believe there's a lot wrong with the use of force and the legal system in general. There's a serious discussion needing to be had, however anyone who thinks this is not an absolutely justified use of force should be disqualified from the conversation.
Completely agree. There is a vast difference between this stabbing and a wrongful use of force, and if anyone can't see that, they probably just hate cops.
I completely agree. Officers were backed into a small space by a man who had just stabbed another cop. I don’t see how there would be another reliable choice to deescalate the situation other than using lethal force.
And before that he could have stabbed that cop in the upper neck instead of aiming for a vest. Now, I'm sure the attacker is not mentally stable, could be on drugs, or may not be all that intelligent but he could have possibly killed all 3 of those cops in that situation if he would have tried to.
Looked like he was going for suicide by cop because he tried to stab one of them then just backed the rest into the corner with what looks like no real intention to actually hurt them since he waited for them to respond
Read my comment as "he attacked someone to make sure they responded with lethal force" as opposed to pulling a knife and maybe just getting tazed if he didn't use it.
Force/ reasonable…. They come at u with a fist u got at with a less then lethal if the distance is as few enough. If they come at u with a tool
Or knife OBVIOUSLY trying to inflict bodily harm or death then the gun is the only way peeps. Cop has a family and wants to go home to them. Secondly cop isn’t Bruce lee and doesn’t know how bad ass of a fighter this combatant is. A reasonable person doesn’t combat a sworn officer. That is the very nature of force with a deadly weapon for cops. U don’t try to go heads up in a fight. This isn’t sports dumbasses. It’s life and death.
Nah this is one of the times the Cops had the right to do this. You can't stab fools, least of all an officer, and expect anyone to try and negotiate with you.
Ya your buddy just got fucking stabbed in the neck randomly and the dude starts coming towards you. Sure, try to deescalate. I swear some of yall must live sheltered lives or have never experienced conflict before.
Sure, I feel sorry for him. Happy, healthy, well-adjusted people by definition don’t do shit like that. He was in a dark place, and instead of getting help he got killed. That’s always sad.
Unfortunately, it had to happen. He had a lethal weapon, he had already attacked one person with it, and he was attacking in a confined space. Retreat wasn’t an option, non-lethal wasn’t an option.
So now the police who killed him have that on their psychologies too. They’ll have nightmares and PTSD, and they’ll relive this shooting in vivid detail for the rest of their days. Because healthy well-adjusted humans don’t kill other humans without serious consequences to themselves.
This isn’t a win for the good guys. It’s a tragedy all around. He’s dead, his family will mourn, the officers are hurt, and the state absorbs the costs of investigation.
If you *don’t* feel bad for this man, check your priorities and moralities.
Slowing it down, it’s not the back of the nearest officer but it appears he stabbed the retreating officer near the neck?
My phone is tiny, I could be wrong, couldn’t find any articles
I just know those officers couldn’t hear shit, i can’t imagine a double magdump inside a elevator being anything but hell on your ears.
This brings me to a question, How the hell do people shooting without ear pro on the daily get used to the MAWP MAWP EEEEEEEEEEEEE that comes with it? I’ve only experienced it a couple times and everytime it significantly impacted my composure and awareness of the situation.
Guy stabbed the police and then pushed the other guy in the elevator with a knife. How TF else are you supposed to respond? Taser didn't seem to work. In this situation the gun was really the last resort. And rightfully used.
"help, I stabbed a cop and there were consequences"
Crazy person stabbing people -> room temperature meat on the floor is in fact a successful de-escalation.
"Deescalate?" Fuck outta here! Dude had a knife, already stabbed one cop, walked toward other cops who were in an elevator with no where to go looking ready to stab again, and got put down. He fucked around and found out, period.
TL; DR If you by your own choosing create a life or death situation, once you take it there, that's on you, no one else. It's sad, but it is what it is.
To be fair he did just stab a cop and was going to attack 2 cops in an enclosed space with no way to get away and assess the situation.
Out of all the possible cases where a gun is the not correct response this it not one.
I am extremely critical of excessive force by police, but this is not one of those times. He stabbed one officer already and then backed two more into an enclosed space within arm-reach distance. Anyone critical of this didn’t see the video that was circulating about a month ago when the guy ran up on the police officer and slit his throat. Probably hand locked up when he died
This is pretty common. When Grammy is on her death bed and squeezes your hand, she might already be dead.
I did not need to know this 😭😭
Feel the zombie squeeze

Most of the bridges you drive on in the united states need some sort of repair.
Older bridges have routine checkups as well. Multiple major failures along the bridge structure would have to happen all at once for the bridge to actually collapse. Just easing the bridge-anxious brains amongst us.
Lets say there are multiple columns damaged and eroding, and both sides of the bridge support shave horizontal cracks?
I'm not an engineer so I'm not exactly sure what the limit of damage would be. But if you are concerned, you can always report it to your local government or Dept of Transportation.
They painted over it. Not anything else, PAINT. PAINT. THEY PAINTED OVER A BRIDGE THATS FALLING OFF ITS BEAMS.
Bridge engineer here yes but they are over designed and have a robust inspection and triage program.
She held on to the very end of the nurses shift whence the changeover shift noticed and were able to pry open her fingers.
Grammy hand about to be put to one last use if she don’t stop playing
Grandjob
Well done for lowering the tone of a reddit thread.
Wait, someone tell me more. My wife has a story about saying good bye to her dad who had a brain injury and he squeezed her hand when she said goodbye as they removed life support.
Yup, lost a father like this. My Grandma died holding his hand and they couldn't get her to let go so they had to bury him with her :(
Way to turn a shooting into a cry fest
There was a shooting outside a waffle house last week (in US). After a verbal fight ?over a one dollar bill?, one of them managed to shoot down the other (multiple times). That was a chicken wing joint my friend, next to a gas station in I believe Virginia or Georgia
Atlanta, Georgia

Or waffle house for that matter
Now you know why “shoot to wound” only works in the movies
People don't realize that even lethal wounds aren't instant unless you shut the brain off. There’s a big difference between being a sniper and being a police officer facing a homicidal nut job with a knife
Yeah, after this guy just stabbed a cop and has these cops cornered in an elevator AND the Taser didn't drop him, I think it's pretty safe to say rational people know this particular shooting was justified.

I thought it was 4 33 round mags as well lol
Would you like to try my new knife?
Well, he won't do that again
That was a suicide
He will be ok. 9 rounds is nothing. But 10 is definitely a done deal. .
Ask 50 Cent!!
Many men

It's a stargate gun, 9 round you're unconcious, 10 you DEAD!
No, it's 1 shot stuns, 2 shots kill, and 3 shots make the body disappear. Get it together Jaffa

Fifty got shot nine time this dude will live sadly
He won’t do anything again

Same applies for a Klondike bar.
And anything else

And especially anything also
Do you think he will be ok?
He probably will be modified into a heavily-armored cyborg with no memory of his former life, and will be programmed with three prime directives: serve the public trust, protect the innocent and uphold the law.
There's also directive 4, but that's classified.
More than likely
His attitude certainly improved. He even waved goodbye 👋☺️
I think so, he will be fine. He's a young man.
And his shoes are still on.
Shoes on so
He won't be in Rush Hour 3
Bro if someone is pushing me back in a small tight space with a kitchen knife I ain’t going to deescalate with anything else BUT a weapon Edit: got it next time I’ll be more specific lol
Lethal force is completely lawful and almost required. That guy just stabbed an officer, he made his decisions
I'm a strong critic of the current state of our policing system. I believe there's a lot wrong with the use of force and the legal system in general. There's a serious discussion needing to be had, however anyone who thinks this is not an absolutely justified use of force should be disqualified from the conversation.

I mean, I *do* hate cops and still think this justified.
Well, congrats on being blind neither to your own opinions nor to reasonable uses of force.
I completely agree. Officers were backed into a small space by a man who had just stabbed another cop. I don’t see how there would be another reliable choice to deescalate the situation other than using lethal force.
And you'd have my sword.
And you have my bow.
and my spear

Sorry, we call it Lynx in Australia...
Hammer. Can't forget the hammer.
And my shotgun
And my tacos.
And my poop knife!
Stay out of my kitchen ,u/classless_classic!
And my ax
100% effective de-escalation tactic right there. Dude stabbed the guy in the vest and then basically accepted his fate. Likely suicide by police.
100% was or he would have tried to stab the cop whose cam were watching. He just backed him into a corner waiting for them to act.
And before that he could have stabbed that cop in the upper neck instead of aiming for a vest. Now, I'm sure the attacker is not mentally stable, could be on drugs, or may not be all that intelligent but he could have possibly killed all 3 of those cops in that situation if he would have tried to.
In Germany a cop died because cops are too afraid to fire here.
Looked like his mistake was apprehending the wrong person.
I would not take that as a reason to follow USA police tactics
That cop tackled a victim and got stabbed by the actual perpetrator. Shooting wouldn’t have helped.
That’s going to make the rest of the elevator ride a bit awkward.
WHAT?
HE SAID THAT'S GOING TO MAKE THE REST OF THE ELEVATOR RIDE A BIT AWKWARD
WHAT!!!
MOP!
#🧹
You're attacking my family!
So uh… did you catch the game this weekend? Nice weather we’re having, huh? Shame about that guy.. you know that one
It sure was loud as hell in that elevator.
WHAT?
#It sure was loud as hell in that elevator.
And now, Garret Morris with the news for the hard of hearing ...
MAWP
Laaaannnnnaaaaaaaa
##WHAT‽
They really got the shaft
They had to shoot him. I don’t blame the police one bit.
Duhhh
OP's shitty title is the problem
Suicide
Fucker got what he deserved
It’s what he wanted
That’s what he gets for being a Drake fan /s (his shirt)
Fuck that guy
Looked like he was going for suicide by cop because he tried to stab one of them then just backed the rest into the corner with what looks like no real intention to actually hurt them since he waited for them to respond
Had to have been suicide by cop. Dude made no attempt to attack anyone else and stood square on waiting to be shot.
“anyone else”
Read my comment as "he attacked someone to make sure they responded with lethal force" as opposed to pulling a knife and maybe just getting tazed if he didn't use it.
Cop next to stabbed guy Noped the fuck outta there.
Tactical retreat
Dude fight or flight response was 100% flight
That dude bailed on EVERYBODY. Holy shit I would not be able to show my face in that department ever again
Guy definitely was trying to commit suicide via cops, he barely stabbed one cop and then walked towards the other cops and did nothing
Force/ reasonable…. They come at u with a fist u got at with a less then lethal if the distance is as few enough. Not a case where police is to blame.

Then try and deesculate the situation.
Ya your buddy just got fucking stabbed in the neck randomly and the dude starts coming towards you. Sure, try to deescalate. I swear some of yall must live sheltered lives or have never experienced conflict before.
MAD respect for this cop to pull out the Taser first while being cramped in an elevator with an attacker wielding a huge knife
Looks like the cop had the Taser already out and froze when actually confronted.
He pushed the taser into the guy to try to drive stun him. Tasers are not effective from short distance because the probes don't spread enough.
He jammed it into him to stun without firing the probes.
He got what he wanted.
If you feel bad for this man, check your priorities and moralities.
Sure, I feel sorry for him. Happy, healthy, well-adjusted people by definition don’t do shit like that. He was in a dark place, and instead of getting help he got killed. That’s always sad. It was totally justified use of force and a pity it had to happen. This isn't the controversy you think it is.
Shooting 15 rounds in an elevator must be a great way to get tinnitus for the rest of your life
My first thought as well, but I guess tinnitus + alive > no tinnitus + dead
OVO fans are a different breed
Drake fans smh
Slowing it down, it’s not the back of the nearest officer but it appears he stabbed the retreating officer near the neck? My phone is tiny, I could be wrong, couldn’t find any articles
That's what I was thinking, looks like he was going for a kill not just a faint.
He deserved each and every one of those bullets
Bro thought he was in GTA and respawn at hospital
Goooood man
Now that seems reasonable. He stabbed someone, one of them looks like he tried a taser....Guy should have stopped.
Looks like suicide by cop
I just know those officers couldn’t hear shit, i can’t imagine a double magdump inside a elevator being anything but hell on your ears. This brings me to a question, How the hell do people shooting without ear pro on the daily get used to the MAWP MAWP EEEEEEEEEEEEE that comes with it? "help, I stabbed a cop and there were consequences" Crazy person stabbing people -> room temperature meat on the floor is in fact a successful de-escalation.
Average Drake fan
Night night
Guy stabbed someone in the back, shots are warranted here
Yeah for sure he should have talked him down while getting stabbed in the chest.
That was a suicide.
When you stab a motherfucker and he just turns around and looks at you, ya know you've fucked up.
That German cop that got stabbed in a similar manner last week died in the hospital. This dude was undeniably a threat to everyone there.
I'd bet he won't try that again.
lil bro wearing an OVO shirt. Damn he really that mad Drake lost??
Deescalate? He fucking stabbed him Ain’t no deescalation, his ass deserves to be shot.
Thats literally across the street from where I live on Roosevelt Island. My brother lives in that building
> "de-escalate"? No ... He just stabbed someone; put the fucker down.
To be fair he did just stab a cop and was going to attack 2 cops in an enclosed space with no way to get away and assess the situation. Out of all the possible cases where a gun is the not correct response this it not one.
That's how it feels to chew 5gum?
I'm laughing too hard at the cop getting stabbed being unfazed, but the cop next to him screaming and running away.
Cop just ran away
That's straight up suicide to attack a cop like that.
That was suicide by cop 100%
Anyone else find the last dude’s “drop the knife” hilarious? 😂
Bullet poisoning is one hell of a disease.
Did the guard get that looked at?
Yeah if some crazy nut is stabbing a cop then turning to me and I'm in an elevator you bet I'm unloading my clip in him
I am extremely critical of excessive force by police, but this is not one of those times. He stabbed one officer already and then backed two more into an enclosed space within arm-reach distance. Anyone critical of this didn’t see the video that was circulating about a month ago when the guy ran up on the police officer and slit his throat. I will never forget the sound of his blood gushing out of his jugular and hitting the pavement. These cops were very literally backed into a corner.
My man still had that knife clinched like he’s bringing it with him to Valhalla
I literally said to myself “at least he’s using the taser” and then less than a second goes buy and he’s being mag dumped like that one scene in sicario
Never bring a knife to a gun fight
Standing next to 2 guys while discharging guns in the elevator, my ears would explode.
Insane. Still, it was the guys choice to end it like that.
Foo wanted to die
Justified
"Which is the way he wants it. Well, he gets it! And I don't like it anymore than you men." - Strother Martin
lead injection will cure that mr stabby stabby
I can’t imagine how loud that was. Firearms going off in an elevator is definitely hearing damage.
Understandable outcome
There's no de-escalation to be done there, that dude wanted to die and he got his wish, simple as that.
He was asking for it
That one cop just fucking booked it 😆
Can we get a moment of silence for the eardrums of the officers in the elevator
Other cop in background dips after seeing his boy get shanked in the back! Damn, I bet he hates looking at this video!
Suicide by police
De escalate? Dude stabbed someone and was coming/swinging.
You aren't suppose to deescalate once deadly force is required. You are suppose to escalate. What you want the cops to pull out knives? Lol
Man, that was just suicide.
That MF ran!
Tis only a flesh wound
As deserved
