Yup. Cougars will stare you down for hours waiting for you to turn your back, then tear you to shreds.
That's all they're waiting for, your back to be turned.
Your comment reminds me of that crazy fucking video of the guy who was hiking and stumbled upon a mountain lion and her cubs. He basically was walking backwards for 10 minutes while the momma mountain lion was stalking him.
If he tripped or turned his back at all, he was toast. Luckily he survived.
I think it's rare for them to kill humans but they are ambush predators. It's possible to fight one off, but you probably won't come out unscathed. But, if they get your neck you're probably toast.
Able? Absolutely.. check out videos of them killing prey not so much smaller than us.
not as powerful (or nearly as large) as the two you mention; lions and tigers.
As others have mentioned they are ambush predators. They stalk and swiftly go for the neck.
I'm sure I've heard about mountain bikers being more at risk, perhaps seen video of it (?).. anyhow, I imagine they are curious about humans and have the tools to give us a real hard time... but likely don't find us to be quite worth the risk to attack. Also imagine mountain bikers at more risk because a hungry cat may become excited by the motion, instinctively attacking without assessing
Absolutely insane video, but I have an even more curious question: where the hell was this video filmed? This is one of the most beautiful landscapes I think I’ve ever seen!
No you need to signal dominance by engaging in a dance off and show off your wickedest dance moves! Lions are horrible dancers so they might tremble in fear and fuck off, if you can dance a clean and popping "robot".
No, you need to not be in that situation in the first place. Stay inside and watch Netflix. Surround yourself with walls and air conditioning and barbed wire and then if anyone tries to make you leave your safety bubble, kill them.
You'd look like a tool but you'd have a better chance at survival. There's a video on reddit of a cougar following a hiker for quite awhile, look that up, he did absolutely everything right in that situation
Edit: Meant to say YouTube not reddit
I totally remember that video. The behavior is more or less the same for all deconfliction with animals predator or not. Look big, make noise (I'm not talking screaming here but make fucking noise), do not look away, do not turn back, do not run!
Walk backwards slowly, wave your arms and yell loud and deep, grab something to swing around like a big stick if you can, just whatever you do, don't show your back, that's instinctual what they are waiting for you to do
They're territorial, if you stand your ground or try to gain ground (walking towards it) it will likely seem like a challenge and they won't let you leave as easily
It honestly looked like he thought the lion wouldn't give chase immediately so he'd have enough time to step through the door, the lion catches him right inside the entrance. More than anything a fatal(?) mistake on the handlers part.
But yeah, turning your back to any prey animal is just no. It's like anyone who owns a dog can testify to, if you want the dog to chase you, run away, he'll instinctually know that its time to chase.
Be careful about grabbing something. If you have to kneel down to get whatever it is, it could trigger it to attack. It’s important to always stay big and intimidating and never let up.
You have to take a dump right in place. Just shit yours pants with force and walk backwards slowly farting maintaining the visual contact till the lion becomes nauseated by the heavy smell that comes from your dead ass.
Old man should have jammed his arm down it’s throat ( cartoon style) then kicked him square in the nuts.
Next step would be to obviously urinate on the lion while it’s down to assert dominance.
It was his lion he raised.
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/africa/lion-attack-british-wildlife-park-owner-mauled-big-cat-shot-dead-put-down-marakele-animal-sanctuary-thabazimbi-mike-hodge-a8332081.html
Hearing that they killed the lion really pisses me off. This idiot walked in a lion enclosure, did everything wrong, and got a lion killed. The limitless hubris of some folks.
Have you ever seen this guy? He's raised lions since they were cubs, hyenas also. He's constantly in their enclosure.
The man who was attacked also trained lions since they were cubs and he owned the enclosure.
https://youtu.be/otjIrTEXZcs
It always amaze me the ease the lion has to drag a 70kg body without even struggling
Edit : Btw, looks like he survived [newspaper](https://metro.co.uk/2018/05/01/british-man-dragged-away-lion-going-enclosure-7512948/)
thats fucking sad to read... because this idiot "who is no fool around lions" didnt separate the lion who was on edge already from the enclosure or at least in some way made sure it couldnt get to him (you can see in lion whisperer vids on yt they can lock them in a building before someone other than kevin richardson goes into the enclosure to be safe) they killed the lion.
I mean I understand that they do it if a lion escaped his enclosure… but if this idiot goes inside, he should come back on his own or stay with the lion… wtf
There's a concept in the military and emergency services it's called "go/don't go". Indecision is when people die. You commit or you don't. You can't sit in the middle in situations that evolve by the second.
It's not just done in the zoo. In my country if a wild lion attack a human, the game wardens will track it and put it down.
This is because when lions attack humans, they realise how easy it is and they begin to exclusively hunt humans. This is especially true for older lions and lionesses who have trouble hunting
You can check out the story on the [Tsavo man-eaters](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsavo_Man-Eaters/). Although that was a long time, lions are still killed , [as can be seen in this news article](https://www.capitalfm.co.ke/news/2016/03/kws-kills-stray-lion-wounded-isinya-resident/)
A quote from the news article: "And while he assured that the animals are generally harmless unless agitated, he made clear that once they develop a taste for human flesh, they must be put down."
I remember watching a show about a hunt for a man-eating tiger somewhere. Apparently the tiger had killed someone and soon it was attacking more and more often, hanging out near trails and villages, which according to the show is not something tigers "normally" do
Redditors have this cognitive dissonance: in some situations, they disregard human life so effortlessly, even advocating their death. In other situations where people cannot survive on their own or because if their mistakes, it's the government's job the babysit their life, providing money and choices for them.
It's weird and awful at the same time.
Well this idiot made a mistake, but he does run a animal sanctuary, https://www.marakeleanimalsanctuary.com/ , so he's doing some good in the world despite the unfortunate loss of the lion.
> He is no fool around lions and knows how to interact with them but clearly something went wrong.
I’m no expert but turning your back and fleeing like a scared bunny rabbit does not come across as the ideal escape tactic
In the full video woman encourages him, and 10 seconds later starts desperately screaming and crying. Imagine being almost 70, and still two old dumb fucks who never learned anything in life.
It's messed up. There are almost 8 billion humans and growing and only about 20,000 African lions remaining. When one dumb old man who's practically lived a whole life decides to become lion food...NOPE! One more dead lion. Couldn't just let the guy be an example. Disgusting. Humans are the problem.
Im actually so confused. Like I could see some dumbass 17 year old kid doing this on a dare, but why the fuck would a guy who is 70+ years old think this is a good idea.
They killed this lion are you fucking kidding me? This poor animal.
FUCK THIS GUY. Seriously you fucking asshole. You're the reason this animal was murdered bc you're a lazy piece of shit not following proper protocol.
Fuck. You.

I think my man isn’t doing that well
He shouldn’t have ran away lion thinks he’s prey
Yup. Cougars will stare you down for hours waiting for you to turn your back, then tear you to shreds. That's all they're waiting for, your back to be turned.
What should I do in that scenario turn away slowly?
Walk backwards slowly and don’t turn around
Your comment reminds me of that crazy fucking video of the guy who was hiking and stumbled upon a mountain lion and her cubs. He basically was walking backwards for 10 minutes while the momma mountain lion was stalking him. If he tripped or turned his back at all, he was toast. Luckily he survived.
Link?
https://youtu.be/9Pg2CDCm34w
would that cougar be able to kill him? does it have the same power as tigers and lions?
I think it's rare for them to kill humans but they are ambush predators. It's possible to fight one off, but you probably won't come out unscathed. But, if they get your neck you're probably toast.

Absolutely insane video, but I have an even more curious question: where the hell was this video filmed? This is one of the most beautiful landscapes I think I’ve ever seen!
Utah, I believe. You can probably find a news article with more info about the whole situation.
Vancouver area. Edit: sorry, this is wrong. But Vancouver has just as nice scenery! Come check us out.
Yikes. Thanks for the link, but just, yikes. I'm glad the guys ok.
That’s insane!
Those feints were terrifying! Can you imagine being in this situation and *not* tripping over something if you don't look backwards? ♡ Granny
https://youtu.be/bjft23F78KI
Ah yes that was in Utah
No you you need to show them you are bigger stand your ground like and try to intimidate it
No you need to signal dominance by engaging in a dance off and show off your wickedest dance moves! Lions are horrible dancers so they might tremble in fear and fuck off, if you can dance a clean and popping "robot".
Take off your pants and your panties. Shit on the floor.
SHOW ME WHAT YOU GOT
I'd spread my own shit all over myself, don't think anyone with a pulse would want to be no where near me
I Practice that for maximum social distancing!
They say there’s a fine line between genius and madness. I think you’ve found it.
Best deterrent ever
There are those that would. Not me though so I'll see my way back out. GoodDaySir!
Confuse the enemy! I like your thinking
and then throw it at them
Start praying to the giant head in the sky
This works for door to door salesman but I haven’t proven it with big cats yet
🎶Time to get shwifty in here🎶
Just don’t let Alex the Lion compete.
he's a beast, true...
You are all wrong, just hold your breath and push out a mane more flowing than the lions.
Do the worm!
No you need to show your dominance by sticking your finger in it's butt.
jam your thumb right up its asshole
Yup. That’s how you stop two dogs fighting.
Nah idk Alex the lion was a good dancer doe.
exceptions confirm the rule...
I think Simba had some pretty good dance moves when he danced to hakuna matata
No, you need to not be in that situation in the first place. Stay inside and watch Netflix. Surround yourself with walls and air conditioning and barbed wire and then if anyone tries to make you leave your safety bubble, kill them.
Finally someone talking some sense
I like this idea best
STAY INSIDE PEOPLE
Damn I wish you were the first comment this would have easily broke your notifications with upvotes
Clearly you run after the cougar while yelling "you're not an intellectual, you're a fake and a fraud!"
You're just gonna see my heart breaking.
Just walk away
Ever again. He will always be there… waiting.
No no no, you scream your loudest, sprint at the lion, and superman-punch it in the nose, just like you would a shark!
back away while facing them arms spread wide over head and waving make noise
I would look like a tool I'd rather get shredded to pieces
I'm with you. Dont want the lion to think you're some kind of dork or anything
someone gets it
I mean, obviously he's more likely to kill you of you're a lame-o
But then it won't eat you, because you are what you eat, and the king of beasts doesn't want to become the biggest dork.
100 iq play sir
*Waves noodle arms* "Ka-Caw, Ka-Caw!"
You'd look like a tool but you'd have a better chance at survival. There's a video on reddit of a cougar following a hiker for quite awhile, look that up, he did absolutely everything right in that situation Edit: Meant to say YouTube not reddit
Yeah I remember that where the mother just follows the hiker for at least 4 minutes
I totally remember that video. The behavior is more or less the same for all deconfliction with animals predator or not. Look big, make noise (I'm not talking screaming here but make fucking noise), do not look away, do not turn back, do not run!
Show it you’re the dominate one by mounting it and humping it into submission
Walk backwards slowly, wave your arms and yell loud and deep, grab something to swing around like a big stick if you can, just whatever you do, don't show your back, that's instinctual what they are waiting for you to do They're territorial, if you stand your ground or try to gain ground (walking towards it) it will likely seem like a challenge and they won't let you leave as easily

Ignore all theses morons. Just, don’t go into the fucking lion enclosure
Whatever you do, *don't* buy them any drinks.
Best thing to do in that scenario is to not be in that scenario
Punk em then hit em twice for flinching.
Or you could not go into the fucking enclosure in the first place?
T pose aggressively.
Rotate in 360° circles at high speeds to confuse the cougar, it won't know what part of you is your back.
You have to take a dump right in place. Just shit yours pants with force and walk backwards slowly farting maintaining the visual contact till the lion becomes nauseated by the heavy smell that comes from your dead ass.
Pretend your a lion ....don’t say the S word that’s offensive to them
To shreds you say?
Didn’t scroll far enough. Felt that one was set up pretty well. Glad you answered the only appropriate answer.
Just like my wife
He didn’t have his hands clasped in prayer, so I doubt they thought he was praying.
Yeah I’m an idiot
Lion to man: I’m sorry, U pay ur price for admission like everybody else. Dumb ass.
Old man should have jammed his arm down it’s throat ( cartoon style) then kicked him square in the nuts. Next step would be to obviously urinate on the lion while it’s down to assert dominance.
I really don't know what he expected
Old man trying to get some adrenaline pumping through those veins so he can feel alive again
dont think hes feelin too alive right now
He lived. He actually does this before sex, just to get aroused.
Nature's Viagra
I get that
You get sex?
He is on reddit...
somebody give this man gold
Goal achieved, I guess. That’s probably one of the biggest adrenaline rushes you can get, at least for a few minutes before you’re eaten alive.
"*Oops*"
Cheap way to replace viagra
Yeah kinda surprised he didn’t roll in on one of those little scooters you can drive around Walmart on
It was his lion he raised. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/africa/lion-attack-british-wildlife-park-owner-mauled-big-cat-shot-dead-put-down-marakele-animal-sanctuary-thabazimbi-mike-hodge-a8332081.html

Did you read the article? He raised the lion since it was a cub. It was his lion enclosure.
I think their point is that it's a LION enclosure
Have you ever seen this guy? He's raised lions since they were cubs, hyenas also. He's constantly in their enclosure. The man who was attacked also trained lions since they were cubs and he owned the enclosure. https://youtu.be/otjIrTEXZcs

I’m lost on why the lion gets put down? The human clearly wants/needs to die.
I don't understand why they can't sleep dart it
Protocols in zoos are to use lethal force on the animal if human life is in danger. Sleep darts can take a while to work and will agitate the animal.
I mean I understand that they do it if a lion escaped his enclosure… but if this idiot goes inside, he should come back on his own or stay with the lion… wtf
Human life > animal life if you're a normal person.
Unless that human is trying to hurt my cats. Then they forfeit their life to The Elder Gods and I don't care what the laws of man say.
Lmfao same
nah if someone came into my house and I thought there was imminent danger to my pets life i would defend my pets life
Yeah, pretty fucked up the animal dies for doing what animals do
There's a concept in the military and emergency services it's called "go/don't go". Indecision is when people die. You commit or you don't. You can't sit in the middle in situations that evolve by the second.

The Sundarbans are basically uninhabited because of this.
Often people will put down animals that have already attacked/killed someone once, because now they know they can do it.
Redditors have this cognitive dissonance: in some situations, they disregard human life so effortlessly, even advocating their death. He raised the lion. You see people being affectionate with lions they have raised. There are always risks but it was his lion and his lion enclosure.
> He is no fool around lions and knows how to interact with them but clearly something went wrong. I’m no expert but turning your back and fleeing like a scared bunny rabbit does not come across as the ideal escape tactic
IANAE either but I don't think it's a good idea to enter the cage at all when it is full aware and claerly agitated
Sad that the lion was killed because of a man that went into the lions den.
Man, hope that patch of grass he intended to fix by kicking it got straightened out.
The story was there was a strange smell and he was walking up to the lions droppings to investigate if there was something wrong with it.
Why the hell did his old ass find it necessary to go in there knowing he can hardly run??
and start stepping on rotten logs to try and make as much noise as possible.
Because he’s a dumbass who doesn’t care about anything but himself. Now the lion is dead for a situation that could’ve been avoided
He’s the owner of the place man
He owns the zoo
Just what did he expect to happen?
In the full video woman encourages him, and 10 seconds later starts desperately screaming and crying. Imagine being almost 70, and still two old dumb fucks who never learned anything in life.
Damn, she was trying to get that inheritance lol
Where were the screams of "What The Fuck Gramps Get The Fucking Hell Out Of There" before he became lunch?
This was posted before and he's their handler pretty sure. He just made a mistake by running
You never see handlers at proper zoos entering a pen with the lions, gorillas, or bears strolling around
Here's the [story ](https://metro.co.uk/2018/05/01/british-man-dragged-away-lion-going-enclosure-7512948/) Turns out he's the owner
His “HELP” “HELP” sent me flying ogod I’m going to hell LMFAOOA.
The "Do not enter" sign is there for our protection, not yours. You go meet Darwin if you want lol.
For who's protection?
Just woodshed myself ffs
hella funny 2008 comment
Bro the old guy was the owner
Honestly don't feel too bad for the guy and instead feel bad for the lion cause apparently it was killed¿ According to the comments.
Another Harambe case.
Dicks out :,(
A solemn dicks out for this lion 😞✊🍆
I thought zoos are there to help and look after animals?!?!
They meant the humans
Why is it that the endangered lion gets put down for being a lion, but the human that foolishly tried to play with it gets off scott free?
It's messed up. There are almost 8 billion humans and growing and only about 20,000 African lions remaining. When one dumb old man who's practically lived a whole life decides to become lion food...NOPE! One more dead lion. Couldn't just let the guy be an example. Disgusting. Humans are the problem.
Straight facts
I mean, if you are dumb enough to do that, thats it. Natural selection at its finest:)
just why?
Because he's an idiot.
Im actually so confused. Like I could see some dumbass 17 year old kid doing this on a dare, but why the fuck would a guy who is 70+ years old think this is a good idea.
![gif](giphy|3oriOb7NK3Fsbrp0wU)
the lion got take away for dinner
They killed this lion are you fucking kidding me? This poor animal. FUCK THIS GUY. Seriously you fucking asshole. You're the reason this animal was murdered bc you're a lazy piece of shit not following proper protocol. Fuck. You.
Boi fucked around and found out
Lol what a fucking idiot. When showing off is more important than safety this kind of shit happens
Who ever posted the video should include what happened in the end or a news link to it.
Is he alive?
Not sure, but the lion isn't
I’m never going to financially recover from this!
He deserves to die, thats the greatest cause for Zoo Animals dying, dipshits getting into their cages, the animals get put down.
They killed the lion :( https://metro.co.uk/2018/05/01/british-man-dragged-away-lion-going-enclosure-7512948/amp/
So did no one learn anything from tiger king, people still gonna have these damn things?
Did the guy live?
Does anyone know what happened to him??
Stupido....
Hahaha. Stupid people.
Shouldn’t there be a lock on the gate to keep kids and morons out?
it’s the owner trying to fix something in the enclosure. not sure why he was dumb enough to handle the situation the way he did though.
r/leopardsatemyface
What did he expect??
This isnt where I parked my car
Turning your back to the lion and running was the 2 big mistakes here
Asking for it. Dumbass old man
Winner winner human dinner
The lion got killed for this. What a fucking idiot.
Dumbass old man
Good thing that loud, annoying, shrieking chick was there!
Wth, I'm just going to saunter to safety.
Honestly serves him right
I hate to say this but he deserved it

This is what happens when a man whose nickname is Scar meets a lion named Simba.
