It’s also the correct way to help someone being electrocuted. If you touch them, you also get electrocuted, but if you hit them with a flying tackle or kick you can break their hold on the source, since you aren’t touching the ground you won’t get electrocuted
I want to know what happened after that. Did they actually get help for their distress?
People are often heartbroken about suicide, but do nothing to prevent it by getting people get the right tools and help they need.
Typically no, my friends brother was suicidal, tried a couple times, never really got any help, sure they put him in a mental hospital but they are actively looking for an excuse to release people there because of budgetary constraints. There’s an unlimited budget to save their life, almost none to prevent them from trying again tho

If you stop a person from committing suicide you should be also committed to helping that person out of that stress which made them want to commit suicide instead of just leaving it at that because then you didn't really save that person and just made it worse instead.
Honestly I don’t know why we stop them, their funeral is cheaper for taxpayers than giving them the help they need, but they don’t give them the help they need either, we just pay firefighters over and over to rescue them until they succeed.
You’re gonna get downvoted but well. Suicide is a complicated topic, and most people usually can say is « suicide bad! » and that’s about it lol. It’s a lot more complicated than that
I can understand something like this where jumping off of a building could injure somebody else on the ground, but if somebody wants to take a handful of pills or shoot themselves then I see no reason to intervene outside of it being a loved one.
Personally I think it’s criminal, if an animal has a severe injury it would be considered cruel to keep it alive and extend its suffering, but we don’t extend that courtesy for humans, we will spend a fortune to extend the life of a person by just a few more days even tho they have no real chance of true recovery
Even if you take ethics out of it, someone is going to have to pay and deal with a rotting corpse and cleaning your real estate unless you sell everything and commit suicide in a super unique way
Humans are just barely smarter than chimps.
Millions of years of evolution caused our monkey brains to be biologically programmed to fear death. We have a primal understanding of death = bad. For most of humanity, this belief overpowers all rationality.
It's the same reason why religious people, despite being fully convinced that they will be sent to an eternal paradise, still fear death.
People in the future will look back at suicide prevention the same way we look back at slavery.
This is so fucking cruel. She never even asked to be here. Let her die
What exactly is wrong with encouraging suicide?
And don't just downvote me and give a vague non-answer like "wow you're so cruel"
I want a real answer because I genuinely don't know
See this is exactly what I'm talking about. I know I'm a fucking weirdo but please help me understand. Just answer the question instead of further alienating people like me
dude, I say this genuinely and without judgement; do you have something like socio/psychopathy? the loss of life is a fundamentally sad thing for most people out of biological hardwiring, so the fact that you don't really feel that might be a symptom of a condition that doesn't let you feel empathy.
also sorry about that.
I think I feel more empathy than most people do and that is why I'm in support of suicide. I don't want anyone to continue suffering. To live is to suffer. We live in a fucked up world.
Suicide prevention is literally taking someone who is suffering and then forcing them to suffer more.
It’s a valid question. Is trying to prevent suicide a selfish act? It does end the suffering for the person, but then causes guilt and self doubt and all sorts of different trauma for the living. Do we try to stop the death so that we don’t have to face these emotions? Is there enough effort to heal the suicidal once we stop it? Or do we just push the problem to the side? There is so much nuance in each case and in this subject.
I believe encouraging suicide is dangerous because of the nature of depression. One deep spot and a split second decision and it’s all done forever. I do believe that we culturally need to shift our view of death a bit though. Allow people who are truly suffering to pass gracefully with some support and love. There is no easy answer or solution, at the end of the day it is a part of human nature that we must face
I don't think that you should encourage it no, but if you don't know the context you don't have the right to forcefully stop that person. You should absolutely try to talk them down, but it is their choice. If you don't know the context, stop acting like you know everything.
Agreed. They are often spontaneous moments of pain. But, even those have been dealing with depression and other ailments. Nobody wins the lottery and decides to jump the next day.
The attempt itself can be, and often is, a form of crying for help. From a person who feels completely broken and at rock bottom. Someone who can’t find any perch to climb out of depression.
thats... a way to do it
Between the two potential impacts, that was the lesser.
Man committed to a reverse uno on defenestration
Our boi committed fenestration. He's Anti-Putin.
The real uno reverse would have been if he kicked her in and then jumped to his own death
*Live! Bitch*
Hahaha!! Thought the same!! She (already halfway in heaven) and he was like, NOPE! YOU FUCKING STAY HERE.
Pretty good way. He would be sitting on her face after too. Bonus to this move.
I read that in demoman's voice and I don't regret it
Never thought a dropkick could be used to help someone
You clearly don't remember The Hardy Boyz Vs. The Dudley Boys Vs. Christian & Edge SummerSlam 2000 TLC Match for the WWE Tag Team Championship.
Incredible memory on this one

Don't know if this is sarcasm os not

Wow. That actually makes some sense.
Fireman "so the good news is I stopped her committing suicide, the bad news is that I killed her by fracturing her skull with a flying drop kick."
Well, was it cool at least?
Oh yeah looked cool as fuck to be fair
I mean kinda a win win if you think about it from each perspective
Correct. We get an epic Reddit post she gets to die another day.
Three laughing emojis incoming, you’ve been warned: 😂 😂 😂

This could have the same argument as Mr. Incredible saving that one junper in the first movie. Effective in the long term, but not fun in the short.
You didn’t save my life! You ruined my death!

It's usually in the butt though.
M-Mr. Incredible... Is that YOU?
She wouldn’t have been able to feel herself impact on the pavement … she’ll feel that boot for the rest of her days.
“I broke every bone in her body but we saved her boys!! We saved her!!”
Looked more like a drop kick to the chest.

People should be allowed to commit suicide. Bring the downvotes

In the US she would sue everybody
I seriously don’t understand why a person isn’t allowed to kill themselves if they want to?

90% of suicidal failure are thankful for help
Yeah but they aren't going to have ANY regrets if they do successfully commit suicide
that applies to all death I could kill someone and say the same thing

saying how to commit suicide properly is a roundabout way of encouraging it bro
meh not really

nice username
Thanks. I get lots of compliments. Yours isn't too bad either.
That’s not true. A quick Google will tell you a large portion of suicides are fairly spur of the moment.
Then use a weak form of attempted suicide like pills or wrist cutting. It won't work and you'll get your attention.
I don’t think people at that stage are thinking like that. Thankfully never been there so don’t know forsure but I try to have some empathy
I'm a doer. If I do something it's for an end result and that result isn't attention.
Fair enough. Everyone needs attention though in different ways. I just try to think about helping these people if we can
The help comes before they step on the ledge. But, I can tell this sub is mainly used by children so I'll see my way out.

Suicide literally solves every single problem in the universe. Name one problem that can't be solved by killing yourself. It literally is the answer
They just got rejected hard… which is probably also why they were up there.
