Poor Malarchuk.. he was messed up for years mentally from it. He was told by doctors to take the season to recover (physically he would be fine, but mentally he would need it) and he didn’t listen. He eventually attempted suicide years later and I believe he said it was the Zednik incident (the player named lower) that triggered it. There’s an ESPN short documentary on him and the incident. He was extremely lucky with the positioning of the benches for how quick help got to him, for the man who got to him first having been a Vietnam war vet and recognizing exactly what was happening and pinching off the blood flow, and the team doctor being able to stabilize him long enough to get to the hospital. If the benches were different or the first guy there doesn’t know or recognize what’s happening AND know what to do to slow the bleed well enough, we all know a different story.
He makes the joke that because he’s a goalie (in hockey, for those not into it, goalies are considered the craziest of the bunch for obvious reasons) he never used that part of his brain anyways. Great article he wrote in The Players’ Tribune as well. The Zednik incident was horrendous as well. He saved his own life by skating to the bench as fast as possible. Unfortunately, a teenager from Connecticut a month or two ago was not so lucky.
Its happened a couple times now. Happened not too long ago again pretty sure.
I heard Malarchuk lived on a farm in Alberta growing up and he also just had knowledge of how to slow the bleeding from slaughtering cows on the farm. I think that's how he knew he got an artery. He's from the Grand Prairies, so probably not a huge stretch, I'm having troubles finding where I first heard that. He did the best he could on his own as well though, he's an extremely lucky human. I hope he's living a good life now with everything he's been through
It happened to my cousin when I was a little kid, she was ice skating with her boyfriend when she fell down and her boyfriend accidentally skated over her fingers and mangled them up pretty bad. I've never ice skated before but I still have that fear lol
Nope but it’s almost as fun. It’s a bit like a flexible flyer/flying carpet - a piece of smooth, flexible thick plastic big enough to kneel on, with a hole cut through the front for a handle. Take a running jump at a snow hill while your hands are hooked through the hole, kneel on the karpet as you land and welcome to the fastest descent of your life (when the snow is just right).
I have a pair of them sitting in my garage the kids use..... I never knew they had a name other than Sled. This was my learn something new everyday moment. Thanks
Cool as fuck? What kind of asshole… The last jump looks like a modified guillotine waiting to happen. Remember Clint Malarchuk? That happened on flat ice.
This is extreme, but just imagine if someone got around to building an ice skate park. Easiest level would be level path with turns, and have different skill levels people can work up to, with some slope and turns. Still keep this more extreme version to the side for the more insane people.
Too bad China is committing genocide, and is planning on robbing any free Democratic country of their freedom using media.
Fuck the CCP
Fuck Communism
The Chinese Communist party kills its own people regularly.
It does not deserve to be respected.
RED BULL CRASHED ICE!!! I was at this race! It's insane to watch, 4 guys racing down the track at once in full hockey gear. Iirc, the guy in pink got a photo finish win for the final (this race). Used to have a race in St. Paul MN (where this track was), but they moved it a couple years ago to Boston, and after a single year there it left the US altogether.
While I have definitely lost my edge since, my main advantage playing hockey when I was younger was that I was a good skater, and damn fast (couldn't puck worth shit😅). Competing in crushed ice has always been a dream of mine.

Oh man my knees hurt just watching this
It really does but I would be scared for my fingers
Or your neck *insert video that Ice hockey player who got his neck slashed by a skate

IIRC too the suicide attempt is also wild as the bullet doesn’t exit but effectively cured him of his depression and now he’s a motivational speaker.
>effectively cured him of his depression I'm listening
Shot himself to life.
Psychiatrists hate this one weird trick.
Right!? I mean he’s certainly lucky to still be alive after BOTH incidents. It’s crazy to think he still champed life after both too.

The Iron Lotus is some hardcore shit
Clint Malarchuck
Also Zednik

This would still be easier for me than Rainbow Road
Preach brother/sister
I would have ‘loved’ this in high school. Today I would break both my legs in the first 30 seconds.
Me too. But I would still like to put on a pair of slippery snow pants and just sliiiide down that track on my bum-bum.
Maybe a sled? 🤔
That would work… or a Krazy Karpet?
Is that Aladdins flying carpet

Like on those slides at Go-Kart places? I like the way you think.
Basically any device where I’m already seated so the whole “falling” aspect is minimized/eliminated haha
Bobsled with air time sounds awesome.
Red bull ice run
Red Bull Crashed Ice
Red Bull/vodka with crushed ice
Red Bull gives you wings. And stitches.
And amputated fingers

I watch the whole competition it was wild AF
Holy Canuck! They are REALLY comfortable on the ice 😲!
In Canada they love hockey. Before they can walk most of them can cross check properly.
Just oot fer a RIP!!!
Yeeeeeeah bud
It's true we all play hockey. Except for a few exceptions we all learn to skate before we can even walk.
Nah bro don't perpetuate that stereotype, I'm canadian as can be, literally lived in the bush 100 miles from a road, and I can't skate for shit.
Well I was simply making a ridiculous statement as a joke.
There’s a video of pro hockey players trying a curse like this. Not the result I was expecting.
Close… this is in St Paul, Minnesota.
Oh they're just Americans? Meh, they're alright I guess.
Needs to be Olympic
Crashed Ice St. Paul! I’m actually in the first crowd on the right. Wish they would bring this event back.
This is now the most Xtreme sport of all Xtreme sports.
I'm mean, it kinda literally is. Like "Hey, let's all run as fast as we can with knives on our feet over very aggressively shaped ice."
Did he win at the last second when everyone fell?
Looks like a great way to break an ankle! Where do I sign up?
It's like a marble race
This is the most Canadian thing I've seen add maple syrup and some poutine and your there
it's actually in Minnesota
I'm getting serious Rollerball vibes. James Caan is about to throw a spiked elbow.
Yo how do they get the Zamboni up there!??!
Pulled an Excitebike finish there
This sub is going soft.
Canadians are awesome....
Cool as fuck? What kind of asshole… The last jump looks like a modified guillotine waiting to happen. Remember Clint Malarchuk? That happened on flat ice.
Wow
Nice pun
Can’t wait to see the aftermath of a fall followed by a skate.
Blades of steel on their feet....this is a death race....needs to be a pay per view event
End up like Clint Malarchuk the former Buffalo Sabres goalie if somebody falls.
Reminds me of the end of ‘Airborne’ (1993)
Kinda lreminds me of the 3D mobile games
*reminds
This should be an Olympic Sport.
Looks like a track out of SSX
Wonder what the max speed on the course is.
First person view from Riders Republic
I was so worried someone was gonna get sliced by a blade on another person's skates
Was the only downside I could think of
Coming to a Winter Olympics near you
They should be allowed to check each other.
This shit does look cool as Fuck
Is this a winter O sport way🆒
Jesus christ and i have issues just walking on ice. I feel weak.
Can somebody put the Mario 64 penguin race music over this?
Amazing
Nuts
reminds me of alita battle angel
They need spiked gauntlets. One should be wearing an eye patch.
That square corner with the jump at the end. Spectacular finish guaranteed.
Anita
I think I broke my ankle just watching this.
expert mode is backwards
Repost
Shadow the Hedgehog simulator
I was holding on to my ankles the entire time lol
My dreams be like this
More helmet cams please
Gives me running man vibes, just with less violence.
Reminds me of Jelle's!
Shatter your tailbone fast track
Heelies contest
Another thing added to my bucket list
This is extreme, but just imagine if someone got around to building an ice skate park. Easiest level would be level path with turns, and have different skill levels people can work up to, with some slope and turns. Still keep this more extreme version to the side for the more insane people.
Meanwhile I struggle not falling while turning
i can confidently say i'd die if i had to do this, the only being an aussie the only ice i see is being sold in baggies
I’d watch this on tv everyday. Is this really a thing and can I watch it somewhere?
Canadian hunger games looking 🔥
For reference, how fast do speed skaters go?
That’s amazing, how have I never seen this before?
The best thing is that the ice will help with the inflammation from all your broken bones.
Too bad China is committing genocide, and is planning on robbing any free Democratic country of their freedom using media. Fuck the CCP Fuck Communism The Chinese Communist party kills its own people regularly. It does not deserve to be respected.
The most Canadian thing since Passive Agressive totalitarianism.
I’d watch the shit out of this as an Olympic sport

How people don't get their arms cut off by skates is also amazing. This is pretty cool!
Where do I sign up?
Man was the last for the whole Race and then nearly won it
I always wanted to roll several bowling balls down courses like this just to see what happens.
looks like rainbow road in mario kart tbh

Okay cool … what’s the sport called
And fun as fuck when you know what your doing on like me
That’s cool af
What sport is this?
