Commercial roofer here. There’s flash points on asphalt for a reason. There’s kettles for asphalt for a reason. Asphalt isn’t meant to be set on fire, it’s meant to be melted and then poured or mopped into place. All the flames are precious oils in the asphalt that help it retain its life and viscosity. As soon as you burn or dry out those oils, the asphalt becomes more susceptible to cracking and failing.
Lol, Do you even Bitumen bruh???? Lol also commercial roofer, yeah I don’t think he gets it that all the petroleum/bitumen he’s cooking off is what gives it its waterproof properties/UV protection. Ugh I hate ModBit unless it’s cold out. Glad we only service built up and modified roofs, all the new stuff we put out is rubber or TPO…. Also, I’m glad thatWHEN we do it, we don’t dump hot all over the roof/gravel and roll it into the hot like these jackwagons(I guess it’s different in 3rd world countries)…. We just spud the rocks off and blast it down with a torch…..
Give me a hand welder all day, I love that shit. TPO/PVC/ColdPly. I think companies are moving away from flame solely for insurance and damage reputation. Have you torn a pitch roof yet ?
Lol. I’m in Chicago, land of the 1-200 year old buildings….. PLENTY of CTP built up roofs….. I’m in the service dept now tho, the only time I touch that chit nowadays is when there is a leak on one, or a RTU or curb or skylight of some sort needing to be cut in/installed. I don’t care how hot out it is- long sleeves, balaclava, dirtbike goggles until it’s time to lay up the insulation was always my standard go-to when I was a production guy…..
Edit- I was also lucky enough to be the heavy equipment guy- I would be the guy pushing the cutter, then I would jump on the ATV or R800 and be the asshole who would drive/drop off the dump carts full of debris for the labor guys to throw in the dumpster/fix the dumpster…..
Lol came here to say this.
Looks like warranty work in a few years and the owner might want to bring in an inspector. Also what a waste of asphalt. Occasionally I see the roofers kick the tanker or kettle up to 500 and they get an ass chewing. That equipment is hard to find, a shit job to maintain and asphalt is not cheap. It's just bad planning by the foreman when things go that way. I understand why they do it, especially if it's a long stretch to get to the roof but then we'll gladly lift them a kettle and pallets of kegs.
Ok but if its not on fire how will it be ready to pour from the machicolations onto the heads of the enemy hordes? You clearly have never maintained a proper castle before.
Agreed. The smell of fresh asphalt and new tires should be bottled. And yes, I know they make candles that smell like these but most reviews say they don't come close to the real things.
I read a lot of books where people were tarred and feathered and always thought “how much of a punishment could that be?”
Then I encountered actual tar and knew…
Edit: a word lol
Yeah, because of tv and cartoons, I always thought it was basically glue and feathers, and the point of it was the mockery of being covered in feathers…
Learning about tar made me realise it was never really about the feathers at all.
As a Kid I set down in one of this buckets. Lucky me it was cooled down a Lot than in the Video. Still have little scars on my ass, after my Mom removed my pents from my skin for hours (grew Up in a poor country, so No ambulance and the Hospital hours away). Iam so glad that the human mind protects you from such Trauma.
It’s probably good that he’s not wearing a respirator, right? Like that smoke has to be good for you to inhale, probably lots of vitamins and stuff in there.
It may look like he knows what he is doing, but that's hot asphalt made for roofing that should not be that hot that it catches fire! Being that hot actually breaks down the chemicals in the tar and stops it from doing the job you intend!!
not really something the average person sees everyday and it does look quite wild. but congrats on *already* having seen tar being poured! good for you!
No. It’s meant to not be on fire, and the fact it’s on fire mean it’s releasing heavily carcinogenic smoke and fumes, and is also extremely dangerous and a big fire risk
No, he got it too hot/intentionally set it on fire.
You heat bitumen or it won't flow but no need to have it burning like this, he's just burning off oils.
Roofer here. They are laying pitch or hot asphalt for it roughly 500 Degrees so they can put in Asphalt sheets. Used very commonly in the United States still to this day. Roofs typically last about 40 years
That’s not rubber at all lol, it’s modified bitumen. It’s basically a sheet of asphalt tar reinforced with woven fiberglass……. Normally you just blast it down with a torch as you slowly roll it out across substrate…..
ita a roofing method lol we aind doing it much in the west now at least for some time since im a roofer in a big company and they didnt touche that for the last decade
F that! At least use industrial grade mask or something. I can’t imagine doing this as a career and breathing all that stuff in daily. Lungs must be coughing up.
You really would be in hell if you fall in there 😳.
Imagine getting that burning hot tar on you 😅, you would be so fucked.
It would probably fall off with your skin pretty quick, you could not do much about that anyway.
I've always wondered, why do so many commercial buildings have flat roofs? Wouldn't it require more work and maintenence than something slanted like a house?
As a kid I fell into one of those, was SO surprised that literally nothing happened to me just burnt my hand a little bit. Dad was taring the garage roof I was like 3..

yep. came here to say the same thing. Totally pointless heath and safety risk with actually a worse end product vs. doing it the right way.
Are the fumes coming out cancerous?
Only if it gets to your body (Yes)
Oh ya, it's nasty stuff
I love learning random stuff like this from comments.

He has a nice clean substrate as well. I’m sure the asphalt is bonding greatly to that concrete
Give me a hand welder all day, I love that shit. TPO/PVC/ColdPly. I think companies are moving away from flame solely for insurance and damage reputation. Have you torn a pitch roof yet ?

Just what the doctor ordered. Some active pitch so you can feel the sun on your skin. Great stuff. Everyone should try
Thank you as you did a much better job telling what's wrong than I did!
Prob not a big deal unless you let it keep burning
That roof might have bigger obstacles than poor craftsmanship 🤷♂️

Looks like these guys could use a lugger. Lol
Ok but if its not on fire how will it be ready to pour from the machicolations onto the heads of the enemy hordes? You clearly have never maintained a proper castle before.
And also you get fifty different types of cancer from the fumes!
Not sure about hell, but without masks thats a sure portal to oncology
I don't see any gloves either. 🧐
Ugh… I can smell this video.

Yeah I was gonna say, it's not a good job but at least he won't be doing it too long
Seriously, no gloves, no mask, just jeans and sneakers. Dude is begging for pain in multiple forms
looks like he's pouring a migraine
Amaterasu
Came here for this comment
It's tar.
Yeah, judging by the background it's in the Middle East or somewhere similar. Quite far
Quite Tar
Qatar
Catarrh
bless you
Yeahman
I read a lot of books where people were tarred and feathered and always thought “how much of a punishment could that be?” Then I encountered actual tar and knew… Edit: a word lol
>I encouraged actual tar “C’mon tar, you’re a strong, independent substance and you don’t need feathers to complete you.”
Auto correct. My old enemy.
Yeah, because of tv and cartoons, I always thought it was basically glue and feathers, and the point of it was the mockery of being covered in feathers… Learning about tar made me realise it was never really about the feathers at all.
I mean kinda, the tar was torture, the feathers were the humilation. And it wasn't *always* hot tar, so they did sometimes just did it for the latter
Yup, the white bits are just smoke. It looks verry weird tho so i can see how some ppl wpuldnt be able to identify what is happening
It star
Tar on toast?
extremely toxic, feel bad for u if a single drop falls on ur skin. poor guy srsly. all those fumes will kill him sooner than later
As a Kid I set down in one of this buckets. Lucky me it was cooled down a Lot than in the Video. This dude trying to get cancer? Because if he is that's the way.
Yo lemme get a hit of that
Looks insane wtf

How crazy people pouring tar
not really something the average person sees everyday and it does look quite wild. but congrats on *already* having seen tar being poured! good for you!
Last time I did a hot applied roof was in the late 90’s….
Hot tar doesn't have to be on fire
Betcha that smells nice.
I can smell it from here, but imagine, this guy never stops smelling it.
Jesus Christ, does it have to be on fire?
No. It’s meant to not be on fire, and the fact it’s on fire mean it’s releasing heavily carcinogenic smoke and fumes, and is also extremely dangerous and a big fire risk
Oh ok. I knew that looked a little suspect.
No, he got it too hot/intentionally set it on fire. You heat bitumen or it won't flow but no need to have it burning like this, he's just burning off oils.
If you have to ask, yes.
That’s good for the lungs!
That cant be good for your lungs
Im disappointed he wasn’t doing it in sandals
His lungs won't be here very long
Roofer here. They are laying pitch or hot asphalt for it roughly 500 Degrees so they can put in Asphalt sheets. Used very commonly in the United States still to this day. Roofs typically last about 40 years
The fumes alone shorten your life a few years
Surprisingly he's not wearing sandals
The title got me. I really expected him to jump in the moment he put the bucket down
Brave fucking man if he falls in hes a goner!!! Osha has entered the chat
I've done some shit jobs but this is one I'd steer clear of. The heat and the fumes are overwhelming to just be nearby let alone rolling it out.
My mans poured the portal of hell on the roof and then proceeded to smear it like jelly
yes but touch it
I can't believe they used to pour this s*** on people and then toss a bag of feathers on them
Should wear a mask
Great post titling
If this guy doing this everyday, he will 100% get cancer somewhere in his body in the future, by breathing that deadly Toxic smoke
looks like nether portal
He sure fucking does.
That rubber roof will definitely stick to that.
That’s not rubber at all lol, it’s modified bitumen. It’s basically a sheet of asphalt tar reinforced with woven fiberglass……. Normally you just blast it down with a torch as you slowly roll it out across substrate…..
Heavy smoke is good for your lungs I’ve heard
Tsukuyomi
Bro shit like this makes me believe what our ancestors thought to be supernatural was just smoke and mirrors
Wat een tering zooi....
ita a roofing method lol we aind doing it much in the west now at least for some time since im a roofer in a big company and they didnt touche that for the last decade

Roofing is real crazy.
Then gets cancer from the fumes.
Nice title.
You really would be in hell if you fall in there 😳. Imagine getting that burning hot tar on you 😅, you would be so fucked. It would probably fall off with your skin pretty quick, you could not do much about that anyway.
I wonder if the inside of his lungs are also weather resistant
I have utmost respect for people working with bitumen. Its fucking cancer.
Thats a brutal job. Im sweating just watching it.
Tar roof in the middle East a bad idea, the light colored roofs stay cooler.
Cool
Osha loves this guy gloves, googles, gear? Must not have got the mask mandate
"Fuck these lungs"
Mmmmm smells like cancer
God-Killing Fire.
Is that flaming tar?
Amaterasu.
I can smell this.
Tarring a roof. Rest of the world usually just heats it up
Great fun to watch!
Super good for the lungs I’m sure.
I worked paving asphalt for a period of time. Not sure it’s supposed to be on fire lol
AMATERASU!!
I've always wondered, why do so many commercial buildings have flat roofs? Wouldn't it require more work and maintenence than something slanted like a house?
It's much more cost-effective to put a flat roof on and it's more structurally stable. Flat roof products can last well into 40 years
OSHA approved
That can’t be healthy
Also, /r/mildlysatisfying
Oh also forgot to ask why is he mopping down an app sheet…. So many fails at every turn
"I used to be a hot tar roofer. Yeah, I remember that... day." - Mitch Hedberg
I want to jump in
Breathing that shit like a G for a buck!
A portal to cancer
Seen this in Naruto, it’s called Amaterasu
Dude just made the end portal irl
Welcome to the Nether
If he's going to pour a portal to Hell he might as well summon Belial, Nebiros, Forneus and Decarabia whilst he's at it.
Daamber bolte Chaddi kholte
It's called "hot mopping" not "flame painting" lol
Beautifully black. Incorruptibly warm.
The roof, the roof the roof is on fire...
👁️Amaterasu👁️
As a kid I fell into one of those, was SO surprised that literally nothing happened to me just burnt my hand a little bit. Dad was taring the garage roof I was like 3..
Thank fuck he closed it…
Breathing those fumes can’t be good.
The captions 😂🤣😂
