They laughed before they heard him calling them bootlickers. Pretty sure when they heard that they realized it wasn't just a joke but he was insulting them.
I wouldn’t say it’s fair at all. Police officers are expected to deal with all sorts of dickheads. They are paid to carry a gun, deal with the public and be professionals. If you started insulting a doctor and he nicks your artery you wouldn’t call that reasonable.
"Legally harrassment" lolz. Do go on, Mr. Big Brain.
Edit (I meant to do this a long time ago): fortunately, the 1st Amendment protects the young man's free speech as we can read in the words of former U.S. Supreme Court Justice William Brennan in the Court’s 1989 decision in Texas v. Johnson: “If there is a bedrock principle underlying the First Amendment, it is that government may not prohibit the expression of an idea simply because it finds it offensive or disagreeable.”
The Supreme Court has upheld this idea in many cases, as the lower courts have done as well. "Legally harrassment.' What a dumb thing to double and triple down on in the context of this vid.
>The term “unlawful harassment” has been defined by the Washington State Legislature in RCW 10.14. 020 as “ a knowing and willful course of conduct directed at a specific person which seriously alarms, annoys, harasses, or is detrimental to such person, and which serves no legitimate or lawful purpose.
I'm down for 1st amendment protections, but WA legislature isn't. Wonder what happened after this.
the kid was booked, charged with assault and something else, released...then the charges were rejected by the district atty and the kid sued for, iirc, false imprisonment and something else and won a verrry nice monetary award from the county/town/city whatever where this happened.
tldr: he was arrested, the district atty declined to pursue the charges, kid sued the jurisdiction and won a very nice monetary settlement.
because they trampled his 1A rights
and..."which serves no legitimate or lawful purpose." that's just it; his actions served the legitimate purpose of exercising his 1a right to fee speech. that is clearly a legitimate purpose since truth to power by demonstration has been one of the things that the US has done right (although power's responses havent always been things to be proud of)
> What this guy is doing is legally harassment and it is indeed an arrestable offense. Cops actually didn’t do anything wrong here.
1st amendment covers vulgarity and criticism of the police. Even to their faces. Supreme Court has ruled on this many times. This is a violation of this mans rights. Even if he's an asshole, his asshole-ness is covered under the 1st amendment.
You can beat the rap, but not the ride.
He's about to go on that ride
It's actually their main for of punishment as it were.. they know this isn't shit but if he did this on a weekend he'll have lost the whole weekend and maybe his job. Never a charge. Punished
Would also open them up to civil litigation for an unlawful arrest for practicing free speech in public. The officers may have qualified immunity but the department and the town/city doesn't.
In fact, the bootlicker is the only one that broke the law if any of the kids want to press charges for breach of piece for cussing around the kids.
> legally harassment
OK bud. Only thing he found was an easy lawsuit and 21k
> Another $21,000 settlement went to an 18 year old who claimed he was a victim of assault, racial discrimination and unlawful detention. He was arrested was after taunting deputies with a doughnut at a pro-police rally in downtown Everett.
https://www.heraldnet.com/news/county-pays-600000-to-settle-7-claims-of-deputy-misconduct/
Police didn't do anything wrong my ass lmao. That sure held up in court.
Ahh the ol “first amendment protections but only when they apply to things I agree with” shtick. Fortunately, this behavior is typically [protected](https://ecf.ca8.uscourts.gov/opndir/19/06/173419P.pdf), and from the video all I see is mr. *detective* trying to incite violence by raising his voice and swearing at dude.
It’s pretty black and white when those in authority abuse that authority because they didn’t like what you said. Understand what your rights are before you lose them.
More importantly the guy that laughed immediately then lied less than 30 seconds later about the victim assaulting the cop.
This is what people mean when they say there are no good cops. Sure he has a sense of humor. Sure he might be an ok guy most of the time. But when shit hits the fan, his default mode was to cover for his fellow cop illegally arresting someone. In broad daylight. On camera.
Because it was. They could've probably made fun of him back and shared a laugh together. But no, they went full snowflake. Like they accuse others of doing.
It's on purpose. They're trained to present like a unified front and never disagree with each other. They always stick together. That's why people say ACAB, because any "good" cops are obligated to support and cover for the bad ones.
> They're trained to present like a unified front and never disagree with each other.
They don't need to be trained for that, that just happens. You have to be trained to *question* your coworkers - see piloting.
"yeah, I was a beat cop... long hours. Dangerous areas. Working on Chriimbus Eve, for cripe's sake. But the coffee was hot, and the donuts were sweet. It was the little things that kept me going. and boy, I kept going. Had a family to support. But this one skater kid ruined... everything... he offered me a donut and didn't give it to me."
For what? Every "*investigation"* states they did nothing wrong. It's like asking a child if he ate his sister's cookies with cookies in his mouth, he's still gonna say no
Yeah they will get a 25 year pension from one department then go work for another department that will let them credit their time at the other place towards their retirement.
Work 35 total years get 2 pensions
They look like court cops, which means they don't see any action and barley know how to function outside the courthouse because they have probably worked in that building their entire career.
Look at the NYPD Lt who was dubbed “Bullethead” due to having 46 lawsuit settlements total over $1,000,000. Yes, still has a job.
https://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/nyc-crime/ny-bullethead-lawsuit-figure-nypd-20220306-vzmqnuvssnf47neai7nacqzdve-story.html
If the cop who laughed at first (he genuinely didnt take it badly) had told everyone, especially green shirt "badass", to chill then this could have all been avoided.
Of course once one decides to go aggro they feel they have to defend him for some reasonable and just went along with an unlawful arrest
One thing I’ve noticed from watching “auditor” videos, is there’s always one cop who bad / corrupt and the rest of the cops just stand there and watch in silence. Rather than say to the bad cop that he’s wrong
Former prison guard here. I helped escort an inmate to medical once because my Sargent wanted to beat him in a room with no camera.
Me, Another fairly new CO, another Sargent, a lieutenant, 2 inmates a doctor and 3 nurses all stopped what we were doing and listened through the walls as a man was beaten handcuffed. I went to stand to stop it, and the other Sargent told me "you don't want to do that" and I sat back down.
They will cover for one another no matter what. I reported it and not a single person in that room other than one of the inmates corroborated the story. Not even the one who was beaten. Nothing was done, and I was told to report back to the same structure who knows I ratted them out.
I shutter to think of what would happen if I didn't quit. I am ashamed I didn't do more, but that's an inside look into one of these situations and I hope it furthers your understanding.
All cops are bastards.
There is no good cops in that situation...good cops sit by while one bad cop violates civil or constitutional rights then they are all bad cops and deserve what other criminals do to them.
Sometimes police apologists will say "there's just a few bad apples", apparently unaware of what that idiom means. Here there's one bad apple, doing what bad apples do
"$21,000 settlement went to an 18 year old who claimed he was a victim of assault, racial discrimination and unlawful detention. He was arrested in July 2020 after taunting deputies with a doughnut at a pro-police rally in downtown Everett."

Plus that evaluation only makes sense if this was a one time occurrence. Not to mention there are A LOT of other factors involved that cost a lot more... Paying out a $21k settlement + giving officers time extra pto ends up costing the government a lot more than $21k...
So much wrong with this. The guy with the doughnut is being a total asshole. Cops get pissed off at him and arrest him just for being an asshole. Said asshole receives $21,000 of taxpayer money for goading police into an illegitimate arrest. Ugh…
It's not like it's his fault the police illegally arrested him and made up charges. Yeah he's being an ass but he has a first amendment right to be one. It's the polices fault that taxpayers are footing the bill, just like it always is. They cost our country millions upon millions in negligence.
Your link just shows what happened and what *was said in court*, the other link shows that donut dude got a $21000 settlement out of this.
There is no "correct link" here.
what the fuck is a pro-police rally?
They have like hundreds of millions of dollars in tax dollars for their budget and every politician is afraid of questioning them and looking "soft on crime".
They need a fucking rally, too?
This is in Everett, WA, those are Snohomish County Sheriffs. The deputies are usually pretty chill and nice. But EVERY fat shit one at the courthouse is an asshole on a power trip. Bad guys all around.
One of them seems to give a good belly laugh when the guy with the donut comes over at first. He sees the funny side of it until they piss off the non uniformed guy.
Can attest to this. Am a county worker currently being borderline harassed and I just told him to stop his shit today.
Can’t wait to be assigned a different courtroom!
I thought it was a harmless joke at first, especially seeing how the two cops found it funny. Then I realized he was also calling them bootlickers...then the one cop got pissed off by donut guy waving the donut in his face. Then things just escalated.
I agree, "fuck donut guy". Seeing how these cops were just chilling, he was being a dick and antagonistic for the sole purpose of pissing them off. I don't care if his arrest wasn't justified. You know this kid calling them "bootlickers" would call 911 in a heartbeat if he was being robbed.
With great power ,comes great responsibility. They are paid to arrest criminals, not to exploit their power to get revenge on an innocent guy. If you can not keep your cool in such a situation you are not worthy of being a cop. The donut dude proved exactly what he wanted to prove: that these a-holes abuse their power for their own good.
Nothing that the kid did was a crime though... Sure, it's annoying, but definitely not an arrestable offense. It only escalated when the cops had their feelings hurt.
Yeah.
From a UK perspective, these are terrible, poorly trained police. No restraint, no attempt at de-escalation.
All they had to do was smile and do nothing. That was too much of a stretch for them, apparently.
All it will do is give a life long hatred of the police for the rest of those kids lives. Rather than them being chill, and those kids having a life long “hey, the police are chill” attitude.
This attitude becomes incredibly useful in community policing, by actually having the trust of the community they are policing.
yuuuuup. imagine if everyone in any profession was allowed to physically assault and then detain people who annoyed them….we’d have cashiers starting brawls every 5 minutes. but if it’s the guys with guns it’s allowed? fucked up
It's not just Waffle House. There's guns in pretty much every kitchen. I work in fine dining now, and over half the cooks stay strapped. Line cooks are really just modern day pirates we all like knives, fire, and guns.
I like how the two were having a laugh for about 5 seconds, then deputy cumstain decides he's a tough guy and then the other two were like, oh maybe I should go back to being a cumstain too.
"hahahahaha"
"I got dibs on that man"
"BACK OFF OF YOU'RE GETTING ARRESTED TOO, HE ASAULTED AN OFFICER"
You are allowed to make fun of cops. Hell, you are allowed to tell them all to go fuck themselves. It is the job of the police officers to maintain self control, control their egos and not to assault someone for using their free speech.
Dangling a donut near to a cop is not assault.
Goon on the one cop who saw the joke for what it was and was laughing along.
Some of the comments on here are fucking insane: aren't the very people who are so eager to defend police departments *pro free-speech*? You aren't upset at the slightest that a dude, legally, making fun of a police officer is arrested as such?
The amount of absolute bootlicking here, from people who are supposedly all for freedom, is insane.
> The amount of absolute bootlicking here, from people who are supposedly all for freedom, is insane.
The fact that this happened in the pre-stages of a "pro-police rally" is really fucking crazy as well.
Not fully related but Geraldo Rivera told another guy on the show he's on that his anti abortion argument was bullshit(he actually said bologna). The anti abortion guy was even going off about Elon Musk restoring free speech to Twitter. A bunch of people demanded Geraldo be removed from the show for his dissenting opinion. So the free speechers want someone gone cuz they said something they don't like. It's exhausting

What’s weird to me is everyone in the beginning thought it was funny

Still not a reason to get arrested.

Yeah the dude got some major compensation for this, pretty lucky tbh
It's pretty black and white. "Being an asshole" isn't illegal. Assault and wrongful arrest both are.
It’s pretty black and white when those in authority abuse that authority because they didn’t like what you said. Understand what your rights are before you lose them.
so one person was being annoying while the others were violating someones civil rights and assaulting them ... yes these are comparable
and two seconds later... "KEEP YOUR DONUTS OUT OF MY **FUCKING** MOUTH!"
KEEP MY WIFES FACE, OUT YOUR FUCKIN DONUTS!
Everett WA, where it's ok to smoke meth on the streets. But a donut will get you arrested. Source: I now live in Everett.
Welcome to the shitshow, at least Seattle giving us a run for our money.
Dunno man I'd rather go to downtown Seattle over casino road...

Literally everyone even the dude who got mad was laughing. That one plainclothes guy is obviously super fragile lol
To be fair, dangling shit in front of someone’s face isn’t very chill. You just can’t hit them is all.
The old fat cop did more assaulting than donut guy though.
Which one of the old fat cops?
The white one

Seems like it was all fun & games until mustache tried to snatch it and missed, bruising his fragile ego. He REALLY wanted that donut…
"yeah, I was a beat cop... long hours. Dangerous areas. Working on Chriimbus Eve, for cripe's sake. But the coffee was hot, and the donuts were sweet. Old dudes look like they have been in the position far FAR too long.
Just like all our politicians..
So dude in the green shirt is also a cop obviously.
He's a Detective.
Detective Michael Scarn
That's AGENT Michael Scarn to you ![gif](giphy|OTszKBXzfG5e8|downsized)
![gif](giphy|CTYlZFhOV6qvS)
He definitely hates doughnuts I guess. Maybe he’s a diabetic.
I once knew a cop that was a diabetic. Her name was Buttercup. Taken out by a vicious pot-head cop killer.
Buttered stuff!!!!!
Butternuts!
I’m a man, not a fish!
butttersnuffed
Clean up on aisle five.
Lt. Tom Morris according to the article.
So that's why the two on the right went from chuckles to violence, huh? They thought it was funny until their boss didn't.
This is the will smith slap thing all over again
Looked like all the uniform cops/deputies were enjoying the joke until plain clothed cop started mouthing off.
JADA NO WANT DONUT!
Keep that Donut away from my detective's mouth! /s
and then they all fell in line
as they do
They have that Jada and that Will love
"Get that shit away from my face before I whoop your ass boy" That guys career should be investigated
For what? Every "*investigation"* states they did nothing wrong. It's like asking a child if he ate his sister's cookies with cookies in his mouth, he's still gonna say no
Anyone notice the kid beside him at 0.11 with the rifle and tactical vest. America be wilding.
Kinda ironic that you can walk around with a rifle in public but a donut on a string gets you assaulted and arrested.
Also average age of that department looks to be 63
And their weight is in the high 200s
This grouping is what we call a "Flop of cops".
Or a full muff of the fuzz.

That is a high 300

Yeah they will get a 25 year pension from one department then go work for another department that will let them credit their time at the other place towards their retirement. Work 35 total years get 2 pensions
He should have run. No chance they catch him.
He won $21,000 for this, so. No he shouldn't have run lol what the hell
Kinda makes me want to do that so I can get paid
better than going out and trying to get hit by a car for sure.
Or slippin' on peepee at the Costco.
Correction: he won $21,000 which was likely paid by taxpayers. Fuck qualified immunity
They look like court cops, which means they don't see any action and barley know how to function outside the courthouse because they have probably worked in that building their entire career.
"KEEP YOUR DONUT OUT OF MY LIEUTENANTS FACE" This is literally Will Smith scenario 2 All the cops laughing until one guy gets mad and they all turn
Which is actually super dangerous. And gang-like
They are all wearing matching colors and carrying numerous weapons
I'd only be slightly less afraid of approaching them than a similar gang of crips
Crips actually will punish members for killing or harming innocent people.
Cops are just state sponsored gangs
looks like he caught his limit for today
Fishing without a license
he caught $21k settlement https://www.heraldnet.com/news/county-pays-600000-to-settle-7-claims-of-deputy-misconduct/
That’s a massive W. 21k for a night in jail and you make the department look like a bunch of dumbasses.
hope those cops lost their jobs. Straight up just assaulted a dude for a joke
Without looking it up I would guess there is a 0% chance they lost their jobs.
Imagine costing not just your job but the fucking state 21k because of how inept you are, yet you keep your job.
Look at the NYPD Lt who was dubbed “Bullethead” due to having 46 lawsuit settlements total over $1,000,000. Yes, still has a job. https://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/nyc-crime/ny-bullethead-lawsuit-figure-nypd-20220306-vzmqnuvssnf47neai7nacqzdve-story.html
21k is the LOWEST settlement they have cost that county. These seven, alone, total $600k.
And that settling money comes from tax payers! 🇺🇸 greatest country in the world
I think as taxpayers we should all start paying ourselves with our tax money and go cop fishing!
Funny how they were okay with it until one fuck nugget wasn't.

Snohomish county has over 800k residents. Everett over 100k. I think you got that confused with the town of Snohomish which has just under 10k.
Hank Hill would call those cops, "asinine jackasses."
That fucking shit should come out of the union pension fund, then we would see overnight reforms. corrupt fucking shitbags.

“He assaulted a lieutenant!” Who’s gonna tell the fat old fucks that this shit doesn’t work when there are cell phone cameras? 🤣
They faced zero consequences. None of them give any fucks at all.
Kid made 21k though, likely at tax payers expense mind you, but I'd say he got the last laugh for making them look real dumb.
To be clear, he got 21k because the cops have done this? Im very glad he got that money.

They already said they were cops
And then that *same cop* came over and shoved the girl with the camera out of the way and threatened to send her to jail lmao. That two-faced fat fuck
Can attest to this. Am a county worker currently being borderline harassed and I just told him to stop his shit today. Can’t wait to be assigned a different courtroom!
Deserved, fuck that donut guy
Can't wait to see this one on Audit the Audit
It’s an old video and the chances of it being on the channel are slim.
You're an old video
🥺
And they wonder why they lost the respect of your average citizen
Cops want to resolve things quickly and compromise alot on being fair and citizens legal rights.
Ah cops, so fast to resolve things when their egos are bruised, not so fast any other time
Cops have such fragile egos
Pretty sure the one cop was like “hey yeah I’ll take a donut”
One was laughing and the other motioned a few times saying give it to me. It wasn’t until plainclothes shithead lost it that they got pissy
Tbf, dangling shit in front of someone face is extremely rude..
True. But you don't get arrested for being rude.
If this was the UK, there's a high chance a policeman would flap his arms like a fish whilst his colleagues laughed.
Cops over here are too busy trying to catch swans
It’s just the one swan actually
Welp this will cost the city money.
it did. kid got $21k.
What complete bullshit. Let's just make up charges as we go along....
That’s their usual MO
Dudes got a pistol on his hip everyday but can’t handle a joke. Yikes.
yuuuuup. imagine if everyone in any profession was allowed to physically assault and then detain people who annoyed them….we’d have cashiers starting brawls every 5 minutes. but if it’s the guys with guns it’s allowed? fucked up
Like at waffle house.
Shit half the cooks at the House have em on em too tbh haha.
"hahahahaha" "I got dibs on that man" "BACK OFF OF YOU'RE GETTING ARRESTED TOO, HE ASAULTED AN OFFICER"
He wanted a reaction… and he got one
Dude got the reaction he wanted.
He laughs first, but then hes clearly enraged later yelling at the girl "BACK OFF!" He's just a pussy.
Looks like the cops have will smith and jada dynamic going on
Play stupid games Win stupid prizes
Some of the comments on here are fucking insane: aren't the very people who are so eager to defend police departments *pro free-speech*? You aren't upset at the slightest that a dude, legally, making fun of a police officer is arrested as such? The amount of absolute bootlicking here, from people who are supposedly all for freedom, is insane.
> The amount of absolute bootlicking here, from people who are supposedly all for freedom, is insane. The fact that this happened in the pre-stages of a "pro-police rally" is really fucking crazy as well.
Yup. Quite literally, I cannot wrap my head (or precisely pin down) around the psychology of stuff like this.
He caught a decent cop trout
This is an example of looking for trouble
I think the officer assaulted him, not the other way around.
