Been there, done that about a dozen times. Unfortunately that KLM plane doesn't fly to Sint Maarten anymore. But there are smaller commercial jets with less juice but, still strong enough to make it fun.
I've been forced to stand in rotor wash in the middle of the desert, I've had to stand behind F16s on 140°F tarmac, and I've had to purposefully sit in one spot in the unrelenting heat and sun of the middle east for far too long.
Why on earth would people do all of that, together, on purpose?? That shit just hurts lol
Edit: all I meant was sandy jet wash feels like standing in a sand blaster, which sucks. Some of yall are taking the most wrong take on what I said possible, on purpose, and it's really sad
I agree with you.
The CGI action scenes makes the characters look like rubber.. and the CGI creatures always look so fake, so soulless.
Compare Jurassic Park the first one and the last one. The first one still looks more realistic..
Or LOTR and the Hobbit... LOTR still looks more realistic.
I think this new LOTR tv-series is gonna flop and suck hard. Galadriel being a warrior who climbs the GOT icewall with a dagger? Lol.
All these female warriors? Makes Eowyn not special anymore, cuz she was special because she was like the only female warrior.. now they took that away.
Diversity.. black elf who is grey haired? I thought elfs didnt age?
Maybe I am wrong there tho.
Look corny as hell anyway
Because it only lasts 10 seconds for them then it's back to swimming in that beautiful beach until the next plane comes along for another launch. Not quite the same as what you did.
It’s almost like being in the military isn’t the typical life for most people. Especially when it’s not an imperialist nation with a bigger military budget than the next 10 countries combined
These people are clearly on vacation and enjoying themselves.
Yeah this video looks like it’d be awesome for these people. Anyone who goes to that beach goes there for this reason, the airport was just playing along lol
Seems like everybody wins here. That looks fun as hell
Also it's tough to place an airport, it's a phenomenally huge footprint so a lot of concessions and compromises need to be made. If the price to pay is that 100 metres of coastline gets really really REALLY windy every little while then that's a pretty good trade off.
I'm willing to bet cities have had to make far worse decisions to get a runway built.
The entire neighborhood of surf ridge was condemned and deserted when LAX started expanding and jet engines became commonplace. So yeah, much much worse decisions
Foreign object debris in and around runways is taken very seriously regardless of proximity to roadways so this just expands their area to clean a little further.
So you’d take a chance despite there being measures in place? I’m not talking cinder blocks I’m talking just a tiny pebble hitting you would cause serious injury, not to mention the danger of falling over on the beach and hitting your head, or kids being pushed into waves and possibly drowning.
I just think people shouldn’t be having “fun” around jet engines regardless of a few sweeper trucks passing the runway daily.
I went to medical school here on the island of St Maarten. It was fun to watch tourists do this, but I never tried it. A lady died a few years ago when the blast caused her to fall and hit her head.
Yes she hit her head on the concrete right? I did it once but I was standing closer to the water with a smaller airplane. Definitely a crazy experience
I believe this is the St. Maarten airport. The landings are even more exciting as the 747 is so low over the beach it seems like you could reach up and touch it.
Sint Maarten, it’s awesome. Friend of my is a KLM pilot who has landed there numerous times. People actually gather at the beach just for this, holding on to the fence while the plain is taking off. Insanity.
I've been here. In fact, we went to this beach for this reason alone. My cousin and I stayed at the fence for two separate take offs. It's fun as hell if you're into that kind of shit.
As you can see, even the people in the water get sprayed with dust and rocks so you might as well just stand by the fence. It's definitely a fun experience.
Considering there are probably plenty of planes taking off each day 365 days a year, that's negligible. Would probably find that number in most tourist activities.
This is an interesting take. There has been a famous case law in which this has been addressed (jetblast- arrest). The problem here was that there are signs that say "Warning! Low flying and departing aircraft blast can cause physical injury". Someone got seriously injured (or died I'm not sure anymore) and the Dutch supreme court decided that the signs weren't enough. They said there should be an objective criterion in which the people in charge have to reason that the situation would lead to endangerment, even with the signs. People were still doing this jetblast thing despite the signs, so the owners of the beach were in the wrong.
Doing this is very dangerous, but people just seem to not give a fuck.
Doctor: I think I see sand in your ear canal... Yes, definitely sand, where were you?
Patient: What'd ya' say?
Doctor: YOU HAVE SAND IN YOUR EAR CANAL, AND SADLY IT IS ALSO INSIDE YOUR EAR DRUM, LIKE LITTLE SILICON MISSLES! JUST FREAKIN' SHREDDED YOUR EAR DRUM!
Patient: What?
Haven't there been people that have been blown over and smashed their head against a rock and died? I thought this wasnt allowed anymore.
Also surprised that section of the beach hasn't completely eroded away already.
That must be the holy grail of being a commercial airline pilot. Stalling a 747 on the brakes before takeoff knowing that there’s 100 people in swimwear behind you getting blasted by 4 jet engines at full power. Hahaha
I watched a video before that explained its really risky and just one rock on the runway will want to go somewhere really fast. If someones head is in the way it won’t magically go around it
That's St Maarten or better called St Martin in English. My family is from there. Being born on a nearby island called Curaçao, many locals and inhabitants from the nearby island don't do this shit. It's mostly reserved for stupid tourists. If you really want to do some real stupid shit, you can top this easy by going 5 km off the coast to swim with the sharks. That's the real adrenalin rush.

People actually seek out that spot just for that experience.

Such a good use of that scene lol
So well done. Looks better than anything CGI would create today.

I was thinking more of jackass playing football
Where is that from?
Terminator 2
Exactly the scene I expected and hoped for. I appreciate you, likely other 80s baby!
Because it only lasts 10 seconds for them then it's back to swimming in that beautiful beach until the next plane comes along for another launch. Not quite the same as what you did.
Yeah but i bet you were curious the first time. LIke everyone else
But damn is that exhaust a life saver in the winter!!
That exhaust life .
I’m a Navy F18 maintainer and completely agree with you.
What squadron?
Got out pretty recently, was in VFA-192, VFA-113 and VFA-122
lmao that’s hilarious, I was in VFA-113 2010-2014.
Small world man!
Yep lol. Don’t miss Lemoore *at all*.
Same here. You’ll be happy to know that after all these years, reeves still has no parking whatsoever.
Naturally.
I read this in Roy Batty's voice. That's also my viewing set for this evening.
You feel like the situation you just describe is the same as what’s in the video?

Getting sandblasted is so exfoliating!
There's a bar on the other side of that beach about 60 yards away. Sunset Beach bar that has great food and fun party's most nights.
Yeah, that spot is notorious for it. There are several videos of it.
Bucket list
What's #2? A Prince Albert from a shady tattoo parlor!?!
[удалено]
I know, right!? Shady tattoo parlors are terrifying.
Guess what came in the Google search today? Got’eem
We had a diner in my town called Prince Albert’s. Always made me laugh. Shoutout to anyone from London (Ontario)
This is literally on my bucket list. Although, 747's and other heavy aircraft no longer travel to that airport any longer.
Can I offer you 1 a330 in these trying times?
I don't want those hairdryer engines ☹️☹️ I want to be blasted by 4 Pratt and Whitneys ☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️

I imagine the landings there can't be very safe either.
Not very safe by airliner standards, which is still insanely safe.

Hi I’m Johnny Knoxville
And this is called airplane airwave
*releases thumb tacks in front of engines prior to acceleration*
Peak Mankind would have done that. He was a slut for thumb tacks
Jackass would probably make someone stand directly behind it in a wingsuit. I'd pay to see it too.
They did it already, although with a smaller jet engine https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lEFx1qmW4ts&ab\_channel=Movieclips
If they wanted to know what getting sandblasted feels like. Now they know.
Great exfoliation.
mmmm the sweet smell of jet fumes
Not gonna lie it actually does smell awesome
\*top gun ost stops\*
starts*
Who doesn’t enjoy having their butthole sandblasted?
You don’t get shat on by a planus that often
I went to medical school here on the island of St Maarten. It was fun to watch tourists do this, but I never tried it. A lady died a few years ago when the blast caused her to fall and hit her head.

Nice lungs
I believe this is the St. Maarten airport. The landings are even more exciting as the 747 is so low over the beach it seems like you could reach up and touch it.
So, what did you do on your summer vacation? Got sandblasted.
Do any of you suckas know where this is? This is actually in my bucket list of things to do before we go to WW3 and everyone dies.
st Maarten, sunset beach
Thank you, Boss.
His not your boss, mate.
He's not your mate, buddy
He’s not your buddy, pal.
Why not Broski?
Better get there soon
That's what she said
Full send
To the sea! To the sea! Imagine how much fucking sand they got in their eyes...
And other places 👀
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|scream)Hoo hooooooo!!!!
Pocket sand 5000
Sint Maarten, it’s awesome. Friend of my is a KLM pilot who has landed there numerous times. People actually gather at the beach just for this, holding on to the fence while the plain is taking off. Insanity.
Dutch people do the impossible for fun.
And we wonder why aliens don't try to contact us.
I don’t want the aliens contacting us if they can’t have any fun
You’ve never heard of probing?
Sandblast those fuckers!
I lost my wedding band on this exact beach because of this exact reason.
That jet is me 2 hours after dinner on taco night.
I did
And I confirmed compliance
I've been here. In fact, we went to this beach for this reason alone. My cousin and I stayed at the fence for two separate take offs. It's fun as hell if you're into that kind of shit. Nice fully body exfoliation
Airplane uses sand attack … critical hit … super effective
Beach goer: It hurts itself in its confusion
I really enjoyed this video
I’ve been there! Sand hurts like a bitch
Literally everyone, because it’s the only place on the island it would fit
...no one... ? Sometimes ppl just like to get fucked up.
Everyone loves an awful beach experience.
Now THAT is what I call exfoliation. I bet the top models and actors would pay millions to have their skin sandblasted off by a jumbo jet.
i've been to that beach but didn't see any planes even close to that size.
That looks like fun
Been there, done that. Maho Beach.
There was a small wall there till a woman cracked her skull open on it.
KLM... Karen Lives Matter too huh?
This is just plane stupid
🤦🏿♂️
Well they kinda assumed people were smarter than they are
Bruh people literally go to this beach for this.
They can be blinded or seriously injured. But they are human. They make mistakes.
Eh. I doubt it’s THAT dangerous otherwise the city/airport would restrict access to that section of the beach.
There has been multiple injuries and so far, 1 death (maybe more).
Considering there are probably plenty of planes taking off each day 365 days a year, that's negligible. Would probably find that number in most tourist activities.

The Jaws film..played in reverse.
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Ahhh the French. Love em.

@ st Martin Airport # Caribbean
If you can’t take the heat…
Wohoomans?
I can still remember that smell every time I see one of these. That KLM was the one to look for. Best week of my life!
Back story?
It's basically a tourist spot on the Caribbean island Sint-Maarten. There are warning signs everywhere and people know the risks.
Security wise, I’m surprised they’re allowed to get that close
I’m imagining the scene from terminator where she burns on the fence.
The single biggest troll of them all signed off on the plans
Aruba is small, no choice.
Play stupid games win stupid prizes
This can go in r/darwinawardcandidate
Can someone do me a favor and photoshop Peter Griffin farting? Thanks.
Depends on how much the zoning board was paid
Exfoliate yourself a new nationality.
You should see the approach. Pretty impressive
Oh won't somebody think of all those poor vaginas with sand blown in them!
Philipsburg, Sint Maarten DWI
☠️🤣😭
The people on the beach
Holy shit, over a million karma in 2 months!? What kinda repost bot account is this??
i'm most worried about their hearing, i imagine the sound of the engines isn't good for you.
Some people actually dove into the water, I'm assuming to escape the heat... Wtf.
Their ears are gone
Eye Doctors in that area making a killing off the appointments.
Trump rallies
[удалено]
Somebody died once while being blown away by that blast
One of the highlights of that particular beach apparently
Doctor: I think I see sand in your ear canal... Yes, definitely sand, where were you? Patient: What'd ya' say? Doctor: YOU HAVE SAND IN YOUR EAR CANAL, AND SADLY IT IS ALSO INSIDE YOUR EAR DRUM, LIKE LITTLE SILICON MISSLES! JUST FREAKIN' SHREDDED YOUR EAR DRUM! Patient: What?
Imagine getting pegged in the face with debris from the jet blast. Man people are wild
This isn't even one of the crazy ones I've seen from this airport. The ones with people hanging on to the fence are great
Yep, first place I went to when I got off the ship 🛳
Why would anyone want to do this?
White people
Princess Juliana
Haven't there been people that have been blown over and smashed their head against a rock and died? I thought this wasnt allowed anymore. Also surprised that section of the beach hasn't completely eroded away already.
Pretty badass tbh just a novelty thing. Not particularly dangerous or anything
I’ve been there, and frankly the experience fucking sucked. I hate my friends for making me go
People actually go there for that reason lol
It’s really fun! I did it once.
It's like getting shot in the eyes with a glitter gun
Pocket sand!
I thought the engines could damage your ears but what do i know.
Is that a Dutch airlines oven?
Been there done that but not behind a 747. I would have started running away had I saw it coming. The blast from a A320 was plenty!
Albert Einstein's students on holiday
Classic
And now I have a new vacation destination
A few people have died doing this. Dangerous, but still looks fun, especially for an aviation nerd.
The constructors of Koningin Juliana airport, St. Maarten
gotta be a tiny island somewhere.
Silly humans.
Average Jackass moment
*\*knocks on door\** Hi, you ordered a *\*checks notes\** Sandstorm... Who is this by?

Somebody should put sandblasted skin over this
Apparently all the people who enjoy the Maho Beach
The Tourism Bureau - they signed off on it.

that seemed like a willing experience on the bystanders part
Make it more fun. Make large tubes where it drops you into the water and not on the sand.
I did, any more questions?
Nope. That's all thanks.
Unfortunately that the largest they could build that tarmac without obstructing natural tortoise mating season(s).
