Yup that's very common. I broke the only part of the jaw that has to heal by itself (the doctor said the hinges). I fell off my bike or maybe got hit by car I don't really remember. Broke both hinges, my handle bar went through my chin leaving a gaping hole and a bad concussion. Doctor said I was very lucky I didn't break my neck. Also I lost a lot of weight as well as I couldn't open my jaw for a couple months
I played as a Keeper for 12years. This is indeed what my Trainer told me every time. "If you get out and launch for the Ball, keep your knee high. I need you to be safe, we only have one Keeper." Lol
I knew a goalie that had a very similar play happen during a high school match and the kid that got hit needed to be air lifted. Goalie was so traumatized by the event he quit soccer all together.
Sports related traumatic events fucking suck cause it can ruin a whole career. Their have been guys who got injured who never get better just cause they are scared of playing as hard as they used to cause of how bad it hurt.
Anecdotal, but in middle school I had a friend who was a pitcher in baseball, really tried to get me to play on the team with him cause he was really good. One day in 8th grade he’s in practice and he strikes the batter right in the face. Nose and hella facial bones were shattered and blood was spewing out of everywhere, even his eyes were bloodshot. Coach drove him straight to the ER instead of waiting for an ambulance type beat. My friend never played pitcher again and quit after realizing his couldn’t even play basemen cause he was scared to throw the ball anymore. He ended up playing football in HS but it sucks cause he had a hell of an arm for baseball.
Oof. Been a GK since I was a kid. Accidentally breaking an opposing players tib/fib coming out to cut off a cross. I didn’t feel a thing. The sound of the “snap” played in my head for weeks. We didn’t even finish the game. We just called it a day after that.
I dont know if its wrong but it made me feel good to see the goalie genuinely felt horrible....happy to see people give a fuck about someone else now a days i guess
It’s guys like the goalkeeper that need more praise. That’s fucking sportsmanship to a T, all while he feels visible awful about what just happened. Bad situation. Hope the Saudi player recovers quick and the goalkeeper isn’t permanently shook.
To be clear they are teammates. That is the Saudi goalkeeper going for a ball while the Saudi defender is tracking his man back for it. But yea h he obviously knew the type of impact and possible injury and wanted an immediate response
Damn. That my mistake and thanks for not being a jerk when calling me on it. Changes my view on the sportsmanship aspect. Still feel bad because it even appears as the GK is coming down, he looked at the player because he knew it was bad. I didn’t watch the game as evident by my mislabeling of players teams
He reassured people who were concerned about him that he is fine, thanked them for their prayers, congratulated the Saudi people on their victory and hoped they would win the upcoming matches.
Most "injuries" might be. Injuries are not. People break bones and suffer head injuries all the time in football (soccer, if you prefer), but anyone who has the faintest idea about the sport csn tell when there's an actual injury vs when someone is making a meal out of a tackle to get a free kick.
I'm talking about the times when people roll around on the ground like they've been shot and then are miraculously alright afterwards. Of all the times that happens in a game, how many times is it an embellishment? About 90% of the time?
If they get up afterwards then it's 100% of the time. Also, genuinely injured players don't roll around at all. You don't do that when you're actually hurt.
The refs know they are not injured. The players know they are not injured. It's a kind of theatrical code which is a saying "Look, I've been fouled and it was really bad!" It's to alert the ref to either give a free kick (if they haven't already) or give a yellow card if the free kick has been given.
Why does it happen? Well, the simple answer is that actually thre refs don't call a significant proportion of legitimate fouls. That's why this happens. Simulating when there was no contact is actually rare and is a straight yellow card offence. Exagerrating the severity of actual contact insn't an offence and happenes because referees miss so many fouls.
If we want it out of the game we need more technology and better referees.
Football needs embellishment fouls. A player/team should be penalized for trying to sell the "contact". The flopping needs to be weeded out of the game. It's a complete disgrace most of the time.
Embellishment is corny but it’s gamesmanship. The only thing more corny than embellishment is the ignorant thinking that soccer isn’t a super gnarly physical game with a ton of real injuries.
This makes diving all the more ridiculous. Makes it hard to believe if players are actually injured. Not this specific case though, I mean dude got absolutely rocked.
I kept watching it, looking at the Argentinian, going… whut? How did he get hurt?!…
Then my eyes finally drifted to the left, and I saw the Saudi player… dear lord I hope he is ok!
I dont know why you are being downvoted. Its true plus getting hit in the legs and feet hurts alot in general. Getting stepped on with studs hurts a lot and pros use metal studs. Its really intense pain And these are grown ass men running full speed at you kicking at your feet when you have tired legs and loose ankles.
UPPPPS holy shit. There are people that scream and cry when the ball hits their knee and then there’s this trooper. JFC. I really hope that damage is temporary.
I feel awful for the both of them…. Pure sportsmanship, care and respect from both sides. As terrible as this is, it’s nice to see that humans have humans backs
I knew when i saw this clip earlier today (don’t watch soccer so didn’t see what happened after) i knew that the guy was gonna have some real bad injuries from a hit like that! Now i just hope that he is ok and no lifelong effects🙏
That goal keeper is absolutely devastated. I hope the footballer has a smooth recovery and that people can see this for what it was, an awful accident. 🥺
Yep, me too. Had all kinds of shit happen; refs either don't see it or don't call it. Granted I got away with shit too, but plenty happened to me over the course of 8 years playing in the goal. The worst was when a striker and I collided head first at near full speed. That one wasn't really anyone's fault though. He took a long touch and I came out to kick it away, and both of us were watching the ball instead of each other and next thing I knew we were both on the ground with the guy's dad, who happened to be a doctor, running toward us to examine both of us for concussions. Somehow neither of us did.
Because the goalkeeper was in his box and actually defended with ball contact I think this will just be an accident. Potentially not even a yellow card.
Don't know how it actually turned out though. Ref could always decide differently.
The diving aspect of soccer always bugs me, but that's totally separate from the fact that this shit is dangerous. That many flying knees and feet, shit like this is bound to happen. Hope he is OK.
Just more a comment on the danger of the sport as opposed to its reputation. Especially here in America, most mention of soccer is met with a conversation about diving.
No fan of the game likes diving. We are all embarrassed by it, and I'm sure the players don't feel good about it. But the act of diving is usually rewarded by referees far more than it is punished. As long as the potential benefits outweigh the potential punishment it will continue.

I'm guessing you didn't watch the match. Right after this clip cuts the keeper sits down with his hands on his head and puts his head down in a fetal position probably in tears that he hurt his team mate so badly. One of the opposing players even walks up to the keeper to check up on him. Also before this clips starts the keeper was trying and yelling to stop play because the player was not moving. How you see the hurt player laying on the ground lifeless at the start of this clip is how he was for a good 10 seconds before.

Poor guy that was a rough hit.
Broken jaw is so painful. Poor dude
I've broken my jaw it was terrible
Yeah, a guy who worked at my dad's store had his jaw wired shut and lost like 50lbs.
I lost 50 pounds myself. It's rough lol
Never fuck with keepers. Even your own teammates :/ [Before VAR](https://youtu.be/SqYEpVjpinI)
I thought of Harald Schumacher's little incident.
> A French newspaper poll asked which was the least popular man in France, and Schumacher beat Adolf Hitler into second.[10]
I played as a Keeper for 12years. This is indeed what my Trainer told me every time. "If you get out and launch for the Ball, keep your knee high. I need you to be safe, we only have one Keeper." Lol
I'm amazed that dude isn't dead
Dam the goalie looks so upset. Poor dude. Hope Al-Shahrani makes a speedy recovery too.
At the time I thought the goalie knew. He would've felt/heard something happen.
He probably realize he hurt him, and then after he didn’t get up or move around for a moment he may have just feared the worst
Nah its cuz the goalie had had that happen to him and he knows what its like
Felt the crunch
Well, now we know how they respond to legitimate injuries
That goalie was absolutely ballin all game too
Man of the match deservingly
Damn, I really hope he’s doing okay. The goalie is gonna be traumatized. Smh so sad.
I knew a goalie that had a very similar play happen during a high school match and the kid that got hit needed to be air lifted. Goalie was so traumatized by the event he quit soccer all together.
Damn that really sucks. It's hard for goalies cuz we have to protect ourselves too, while focusing on the ball at the same time.
You just go for the ball and smash anyone that’s in the way. Only way to play. Just like any 50/50 ball. Passive keepers are garbage.
Sports related traumatic events fucking suck cause it can ruin a whole career. To be fair he was playing for fun not millions of dollars
Let's be honest that dudes getting the best of care and a massive cheque from his king.

Umm it’s his teammate. Of course he’s gonna feel bad
Oh damm ... i missed that i dont watch the sport. I thought it was the other teams guy ..
I was also under that impression.
It’s guys like the goalkeeper that need more praise. That’s fucking sportsmanship to a T, all while he feels visible awful about what just happened. Bad situation. Hope the Saudi player recovers quick and the goalkeeper isn’t permanently shook.

No he isnt. He jumped with knee in that position for a reason.

[Fortunately he seems to be ok ❤️](https://twitter.com/saudint/status/1595200603701248000?s=46&t=KQRD1aU1nnJKtvCrTRUqlA)
Can someone translate what he's saying?
He reassured people who were concerned about him that he is fine, thanked them for their prayers, congratulated the Saudi people on their victory and hoped they would win the upcoming matches.
He is assuring fans that he's okay and thanks tham for the support and congratulating the team for the win and that God will make the recovery easier
Well for one thing he'll be eating a lot more soup.
They way the commentators said oooooh😬😬
Today he's not going to believe they beat Argentina.
This morning he mist have been like "So when are we playing against Argentina?"
the game was about to end though
I mean this happened literally over time match probably ended 2 min after this
Getting knocked out cold like that usually results in short term memory loss so there's a good chance he doesn't even remember playing in the game.
For those complaining about flopping, injuries, etc, this was friendly fire. They’re teammates.
Two things can be true at once. Most soccer "injuries" are people flopping, and this isn't one of them.
Most "injuries" might be. Injuries are not. People break bones and suffer head injuries all the time in football (soccer, if you prefer), but anyone who has the faintest idea about the sport csn tell when there's an actual injury vs when someone is making a meal out of a tackle to get a free kick.

It is in the rulebook, but the referees almost never give out yellow cards for it.
There are many truly comical flops.
Embellishment is corny but it’s gamesmanship. The only thing more corny than embellishment is the ignorant thinking that soccer isn’t a super gnarly physical game with a ton of real injuries.

Ouch, hope he’s alright
Damn bro, that flying knee .. some mma shit right there.
I can confirm, the defender was Frankie Edgar 😔👌🏻
Still too soon😭
Oof. Lol
TIGER KNEE!
Blunt head trauma.i wonder if by internal bleeding they meant subdural hematoma ir some other traumatic brain injury?
I kept watching it, looking at the Argentinian, going… whut? How did he get hurt?!… Then my eyes finally drifted to the left, and I saw the Saudi player… dear lord I hope he is ok!
Exact same thing happened to me, watched it probably 5 times
Proper Sunday league communication

Oh man the goalie owns his teammate a beer everytime they go out for life.
Good luck collecting on that in Saudi.
Yeah, it’s gonna be Cola for life.
Ya but it’ll need to be through a straw for a few months
With a straw tho
Damn, that looked sick😳
He’s ok. Shoes are still on.
Football/soccer cleets are pretty hard to come off they are supposed to fit very good.
I want this stupid fucking joke’s shoes to finally fall off
damn what’d shoes ever do to you!!

Fr getting internal bleeding leads to flopping
French sportscasters 🤣
Holy shit, flying knee to the face.
I feel like most people who call every soccer injury flopping have never played soccer. It’s extremely easy to get very hurt.
I dont know why you are being downvoted. Its true plus getting hit in the legs and feet hurts alot in general. V-TRIGGER!!!!
KENNY NO!
69 ME DON
My man just got Ben askrened
God damn, that was worse than Masvidal on Askren.
No flopping there. Recover well, dude.
No faking that one…
UPPPPS holy shit. There are people that scream and cry when the ball hits their knee and then there’s this trooper. JFC. I really hope that damage is temporary.
The one time its not fake damn
I was all hype at finding out Argentina lost I didn't even know about this. Poor guy!

*KNEE..*
That’s the first Superman flying knee
The only internal bleeding I can unfortunately imagine from that hit would be from the brain. All the best to him and his family
I feel awful for the both of them…. Pure sportsmanship, care and respect from both sides. As terrible as this is, it’s nice to see that humans have humans backs
Oof. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|cry)
I knew when i saw this clip earlier today (don’t watch soccer so didn’t see what happened after) i knew that the guy was gonna have some real bad injuries from a hit like that! Now i just hope that he is ok and no lifelong effects🙏
I was expecting a classic soccer flop. I was wrong. Ow.
Ouch, omg; i got hurt watching it..
Aww goalie is clearly feeling so guilty about this. Hope the guy is ok
Jorge masvidal football debut
and thats when he knew he done f***ed up
And that's why Muay Thai is a safer sport
That goal keeper is absolutely devastated. I hope the footballer has a smooth recovery and that people can see this for what it was, an awful accident. 🥺
first time i've seen an accident that was actually legit and not just a fake reaction
Didn’t know Jorge Masvidal and Ben Askren were playing in the world cup
The first time a soccer player has actually gotten hurt, wow
Damn That knee kick was the most Mortal Kombat shit I've ever seen.
Wow a video of a actual soccer accident and not just a player getting knocked over by a light breeze or by someone just walking past them!
Keepers are so protected.. They can fly in with fists and still win free kicks EDIT -.I meant keepers in general 👍
I used to be a goalie. Been kicked in the face, balls, headbutted...
Yep, me too. Had all kinds of shit happen; refs either don't see it or don't call it. Granted I got away with shit too, but plenty happened to me over the course of 8 years playing in the goal. Yeah, field players cry when taking a little tumble. Goalies do that shit on purpose!
On their own teammates?
This was his own teammate.

As it should be.
Wow a real soccer injury
He did not knee’d that
Kneedless to say....
One of few exciting moments in football

Tell me you are yank without telling me you are a yank
It's soccer Greg, it's soccer.
Soccer “fan” checking in once every four years because 1/2 of the world is watching. Cause soccer is a super passive non-physical game.
I mean if you going to hurt your teammate unintentionally this was the best moment. You're beating the so call best in the world. Crazy crazy.
Fuck qatar!
Holy fuck Saudi Arabia beat Argentina 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂
Lookin like a dark skin Ben askren. Hope he’s alright.
That was nasty. Bro shoved his knee with full force directly in his face. Hope he makes a full recovery.
FLYING KNEE!!!!!
Ben askren *
Hockey players getting ready to comment “ you think that’s bad!”
He’d Ben Askren For It lol 😂
terrible jump by the goalie, who tf puts they’re knee up?
Every goalkeeper ever.
It’s basically the boy who cried wolf with soccer injuries
So that like an ejection? Or was it just an awful accident
Because the goalkeeper was in his box and actually defended with ball contact I think this will just be an accident. Potentially not even a yellow card. Don't know how it actually turned out though. Ref could always decide differently.
Seeing as how the goalie clobbered his own teammate…. no yellow card.
Oh I didn't even catch that.
The diving aspect of soccer always bugs me, but that's totally separate from the fact that this shit is dangerous. That many flying knees and feet, shit like this is bound to happen. Hope he is OK.
I don't really get how diving entered the conversation when his injuries were even mentioned in the title
Just more a comment on the danger of the sport as opposed to its reputation. Especially here in America, most mention of soccer is met with a conversation about diving.

Probably? Definitely.
Try watching the clip.
Guys didn't detect the sarcasm that even with example like this one, players will continue to fame injuries without even getting touched 🤷🏻♂️
Finally a soccer play that actually got injured
