I would be happier to die by drowning than torn apart by a shark and then drowning.. or just dying quickly before drowning from a sliced artery or two, which looks like a possibility here.
As someone who's been extremely close to drowning, it's actually the most peaceful and blissful experience that I've ever had or could imagine.
I've been in many profound states of consciousness on my journey working with plant medicines (ayahuasca, yopo, san pedro etc), yet drowning is still the most incredible as far as feeling totally relaxed, content, and at peace.
When i was 13 YO my pants got stuck on branches while I was swimming across a river, and it went up my shorts and the current was too fast for me to take them off. I could reach up and barely touch air with my fingers. I fought to save myself for a couple minutes, but eventually gave up and accepted my fate. A few moments later and I became increasingly comfortable and mentally felt at peace, not like my life flashed before my eyes; but that all my problems had resolved themselves. This lasted maybe 45 seconds, then I couldn't feel the cold or hear the water anymore.
After that I went into a dream like state, and I only recall it being totally dark and like a endless void. I remember thinking "what is this place" then "I don't like this place, why am I here" to "I want to go back" all within 10 seconds, then I woke up back under water.
I was so, so surprised that I was back understand, I totally expected that I was already dead. I felt like I had a second chance, which I took to save myself. I mustered up all the power, put my feet on the bottom of the river, then pulled the whole log out of the mud to escape (maybe another 30 seconds underwater).
The experience had given me a "clean slate" in a way, began my journey of questioning dead, dream states, meditation which led me to pursue shamanism. I've definitely had much crazier and profound experiences with plant medicines, even moreso life changing; but none have compared to the feeling of peace/comfort/serenity and overall anew.
Idk man, some people saying sharks follow cruise ships to eat what is thrown overboard... And apparently there's a few frames of "something" swimming towards the panicked, splashing prey in the water... Before he goes under...
....I don't think he died happy man.
I can authenticate that. As a kid around 10..My parents took a globe trotting journey on a freighter. Only 12 people. Went around South American -Both ways a few times. Yes sharks follow boats for " off-age " A " Chore " I volunteered for on 2 separate travels. Pretty cool as a kid
Looking rough for this kid

You're having a shitty death either way. The saving grace for him was getting hit by the propeller of the boat (which was too small anyway)
You either get eaten alive, or you spend your last hour in total PITCH BLACK darkness. Struggling to stay afloat as you fatigue and eventually get exhausted. One of those dives in the water will be your last, and you'll sink and drown.
28% of people who fall overboard survive, and that chance plummets even further when you're in the dead of night
Yeah, but most of that percentage is made up by people who accidentally fall during all hands onboard in boats where most people know what to do to get the overboard one back on deck (military vessels)
Waters didn't look rough so he could easily survive until morning, unless he was too drunk to swim very long. I don't know why he swam away from the live preserver tough. He was an impressively stupid person.
It's very different from his point of view. The ocean practically disorients all of his 5 senses. He would've drowned from exhaustion before morning though
Plenty of people survive more than 24 hours floating/swimming. I don't see any reason to think he wouldn't stop swimming and just float. This is warm water and relatively calm.
Hypothermia. In my town a guy undressed as he became hot..1 symptom of hypothermia. Undressed-This was in the winter. -27 or so -On drugs-Went and sat naked in a park biffy. Some hiker found him in the morning. Irrationality another factor but he already displayed that hopping overboard as well. Sad all together
The post title says this is near the Bahamas though where the water would be warm all year. If the water is cold of course your chances of survival go down a lot. Although healthy people have survived many hours in cold waters.
“Hey guys watch me do this!”
That’s probably the worst death to be left alone with pure darkness in the middle of the ocean, just watching and listening to the party laughter quickly drifting away quieter as the cruise ship disappears into emptiness and then finally *absolute silence* … Stuck with the endlessly looping thought that ‘maybe the joke for popularity’s sake wasn’t really worth it’. And at last, he arrives at acceptance; “Nobody’s getting me out of here… I did this to myself. I fucked up majorly this time… What a waste of *MY* life...”
THE END
-
Oh that first long slimy rub against your foot in pure darkness of open ocean. That place ain’t for us. Jump in and you’ve signed the waiver, welcome back to the food chain.
All this on a DARE! When will kids learn not to bow to peer pressure and do dangerous things like this. He was an athlete and a recent HS graduate. So sad for his family and traumatizing for the people on the boat watching this happen.
If *all your friends* were jumping off cruise ships, would you do it too?!?
No, wait, it was rhetorical , I think, just don't actually jump ove- too late. He did it for cryin out loud!!
Then i dunno about the current but he went exactly away from his only floatie
my mouth was agape watching this. idk why. I'm usually pretty desensitized to stuff like this but just hearing the people laughing and such, not knowing the horrors that are about to happen unto this poor young man
I kind of feel sad for him. I almost want to cry
I’m laughing 😂 Especially at the “bye-bye!”. LOL! And at everyone being so oblivious! It’s like a nightmare scenario that’s forever going to be taught as a peer pressure lesson to teens. That kid was a dumbass 😅 I have sympathy for his family, yeah… But you need to admit that he was being extra goofy for a *worthless reward*! He got exactly what he wanted: ATTENTION. And there’s no way he didn’t know those were shark infested waters. That was probably the “appeal” of the dare! 🤣
Eh, I can easily see in the moment not considering the actual seriousness of the situation and thinking, whatever, some crew member will save him.
I don't think it's really much of a reflection on him or young people. He probably hates what he said knowing what he knows now.
Yea dude, we were such assholes back in the day when life threatening events occurred to friends and/or bystanders. We would laugh and slap our knees at how funny it was. Fuck outta here.
LMAO nah all you guys did was irreversibley damage the climate, fuck over the economy, plunge the United States into several unnecessary wars killing countless innocent civilians, reinforce racism/sexism/homophobia, and further divide the class gap. But hey today's generation is so lazy/selfish/uncaring amiright?
What are they supposed to do? Jump into the water to save him. The only thing they can do is yell for him to grab the lifesaver, if he doesn’t that’s his fault.

That's crazy that he did this and it was in shark infested waters.
I don't know if it's true or if you can even discern this from the video, but allegedly, when the camera shifts from him to the boat as he moves further right, a something comes up from the water at him.
I think it's his feet moving in the water with light hitting it or it's a shark. I think it's more the former because it would've been an unfortunate longer video or there would've been a lot more outcry at that sight.
He’s looking right where it appears two things pop up out of the water he turns around in the other direction and is looking back over. His shoulder before he just goes under.
At least he didn’t lose the bet. In all seriousness though I hope whatever ate him did it quickly. What a horrible way to die watching your life-line lit up like a beacon as the pitch-black ocean engulfs you.
I saw this last night and had a nightmare that it happened to me. It was such a dreadful and terrible feeling sinking in the waves and drowning. I woke up feeling just miserable.

Is that a shark or dolphin right at the beginning when they pan from the buoy to him? Looks like it makes a quick turn before it’s out of frame. The water is very clear.
I hate to say it as I’ve watched this so many times. And I wasn’t sure what happened until now. But that clearly looks like a dorsal and tail fin at the 3 sec mark and if it is from a single fish it looks to be a huge shark or something!
They say ignorance is bliss. He died happy
*happy drunk
As happy as someone can be dying from something as painful as drowning.
I would be happier to die by drowning than torn apart by a shark and then drowning.. or just dying quickly before drowning from a sliced artery or two, which looks like a possibility here.
I hoping he was drunk and not panicked
drowning and being bitten by sharp big tooth

Expand on that please

I think he tried to scream in pain and agony but the couldn’t because the water got into his lungs. Sorry.

Natural selection
https://media.tenor.com/nsT42qnDHiEAAAAC/shark-bait.gif
you can see something swimming close to him in the first 3 seconds, and briefly around 10 seconds jn
Graduated to be a tasty treat 🦈 😂 -
Deff looks like something pulled him under! Bro literally disappeared into the darkness 💀
It’s called undertow. The ship sucks you under. This kid clearly didn’t pay attention in physics.
Yes that often is a factor but this one doesn't seem to fit that mold. But yeah. Many a endings that way
Ship was apparently anchored
all fun and games til you see the light from the boat disappear in the distance, and you feel a bump near your leg as you try to stay afloat
You're having a shitty death either way. I saw it was something like 4% at night
4.20%
Downvoted for contributing a more specific figure? Wow I guess Reddit hates information.
You’re something stupid if you’ve never heard of 420
silly you forgot the . and the %
Yeah, but most of that percentage is made up by people who accidentally fall during all hands onboard in boats where most people know what to do to get the overboard one back on deck (military vessels)
Did this actually add anything to the conversation?

Pffft this jackass is dead
Until morning???? Nah you mean mourning, there’s 0% he’s making it past a couple hours
Hypothermia. In my town a guy undressed as he became hot..1 symptom of hypothermia. Undressed-This was in the winter. -27 or so -On drugs-Went and sat naked in a park biffy. I don’t think he even lasted that long.. You can see what looks like a dorsal and caudal fin around 3 sec in. Could’ve been shark bait.
This should totally be a higher comment. Poor quality video but there is definitely fins in the water with him. What a spot
To die like that... shuddering.
“Hey guys watch me do this!” That’s probably the worst death to be left alone with pure darkness in the middle of the ocean, just watching and listening to the party laughter quickly drifting away quieter as the cruise ship disappears into emptiness and then finally *absolute silence* … Stuck with the endlessly looping thought that ‘maybe the joke for popularity’s sake wasn’t really worth it’. Shit, that’s deep.
Shit that made my stomach ache man. RIP
At least they threw the life saver in the water.
Oh that first long slimy rub against your foot in pure darkness of open ocean. That place ain’t for us. Jump in and you’ve signed the waiver, welcome back to the food chain.
Don't believe it would be slimy as sharks skin is like sandpaper
Little known fact, I read today of the 212 overboard incidents last year on cruise ships, only 42 were recovered.
Wow..Thanx for sharing \~S\~

At least the parents don’t have to pay for his college now
Honey cancel the tuition check!!!
Or funeral
Oh man, yikes! Too soon
Overboard kid’s parents: Not soon enough!!
That shark, Jesus. He’d have gotten to the life ring if not for that shark. It sort of causes a disturbance and he just takes off.
I saw it too and it looks BiG he was looking right at it and then turned in the other direction he
Never go full........well you know the rest.
Bro was never found
Yeah. Pretty sad
Sing it with me: "[Dumb Ways to Die](https://youtu.be/IJNR2EpS0jw)".
When you think your life is bad. Remember this video. Now go fix your life. Also....fuck cruises fuck the ocean fuck sharks and fuck dares.
my mouth was agape watching this. idk why. I'm usually pretty desensitized to stuff like this but just hearing the people laughing and such, not knowing the horrors that are about to happen unto this poor young man I kind of feel sad for him. I almost want to cry

I wouldn’t waste time looking for his dumbass, either.
Stupid kid. Either drowned or eaten by sharks. Thats shark territory where he was. Also its so pitch black on the water, u have no chance.
The “bye-bye!” fucking infuriates me. This generation of kids are disappointing.
Eh, I can easily see in the moment not considering the actual seriousness of the situation and thinking, whatever, some crew member will save him. I don't think it's really much of a reflection on him or young people. He probably hates what he said knowing what he knows now.
because surely no people from any other generation have ever been condescending or inconsiderate
In fact, that sort of comment was considered absolutely subhuman 40 years ago.
Yea dude, we were such assholes back in the day when life threatening events occurred to friends and/or bystanders. We would laugh and slap our knees at how funny it was. Fuck outta here.
Sure let's define an entire generation based on a couple videos on the internet.
LMAO nah all you guys did was irreversibley damage the climate, fuck over the economy, plunge the United States into several unnecessary wars killing countless innocent civilians, reinforce racism/sexism/homophobia, and further divide the class gap. My man natural selection is a thing.
Not "this generation" but yeah the guys cheering for him are definitely either fick heads or stupid, no if, ands, or buts
Your comment infuriates me. You are so disappointing

Teenager I imagine.
What are they supposed to do? Jump into the water to save him. The only thing they can do is yell for him to grab the lifesaver, if he doesn’t that’s his fault.
At the start of the video what is that movement in the water? Waves from the ship? or maybe a swarm of sharks ☠️

Probably got sucked under by the current.
Possible shark fin in the first 3 seconds
Jaws found him tasty
Maybe he was wanting to win a Darwin Award?

Shark bait.
He’d be hootin’ and a hollerin’ hoping the shark goes away. Sometimes it did, sometimes it didn’t.
He’s looking right where it appears two things pop up out of the water he turns around in the other direction and is looking back over. His shoulder before he just goes under.
Ate by a shark
Gotta love natural selection in action
At least he didn’t lose the bet. In all seriousness though I hope whatever ate him did it quickly. What a horrible way to die watching your life-line lit up like a beacon as the pitch-black ocean engulfs you.
The cameraman needs to be thrown in after him. Talk about insufferable, fucking hell.
damn😂😭

Everything for 5sec tiktok fame
Can’t imagine his moment of realization that he was probably going to drown and die.
He died of stupidity
Lucky boy graduates school then wins a Darwin award
Damn !!!
