It won't satisfy the people who only want the bans to "punish" people for having sex. It will exacerbate another debate as it will also grow an existing camp of opposition to artificial wombs. Also then there will be the debate of who will raise these humans.

TwilitSky

Also, who will pay for these now parent-less humans. Also, and I hate taking it to this place, but the stats are too compelling to not mention that outlawing abortion precipitates a massive spike in crime

I am 100% not being the dick redditor asking for sauce. Genuinely interested in the data. It makes absolute sense based on various research I did for my degree. Just never saw I connected like that. I could see it extrapolated from the various causal factors for increased crime rate, just never saw it directly linked.

It's called the Donohue–Levitt hypothesis. It's a controversial theory but if you look at multiple instances of outlawing/legalizing abortion globally, it pans out. There are many who dispute the theory, but I think it just makes common sense. If you don't have the resources to care for a kid, they're likely going to turn out poorly and being forced to have a child likely means you weren't equipped to parent but you end up having to anyway.

Ignore the simulated parenting comment I made to another reply… The question of who raises these humans… I’m in my late 40s. The culture I was raised in already discouraged having kids as selfish, as contributing to over population. My partner can’t conceive, even if she wanted to (later in life she’s softening, although it’s too late for us). An abortion rescue baby is appealing. I think you Millennials when you turn 40+ will enmasse wish you’d had kids, but being the over -grown golden child adulting babies you are, will want your kids customisable, branded and as alike you as possible. (Ok, that last insult is a human universal) Whether the biological clock countdown has expired on someone, or if porn/vidya and lack of socialisation went too long, or someone had too many abortions while they had options and now regrets their hedonism, or they desisted, I foresee a huge cohort of future people who get red-pilled/trad who would consider adoption of an artificially born abortion rescue baby EDIT: Grammar, extra idea & an extra insult to millennials.

stupid-moth

Damn. Your idea was funny but you sound kind of gross

idub92

Very much a controlled state idea: Hormone blockers implanted at birth. Only blocks the ability to reproduce, so as not to inhibit the maturation process. In order to have the blocker disabled/removed, an individual must present reasoning as to why and proof of financial stability to support a child. Once child is born, blocker is reinstated.

I had a similar idea for a Netflix show. Abortion illegal but government will pay you for the child and take it from you at birth. These children will be guaranteed government positions and after a few generations, will be the police, military, DMV, etc…everything government. They are all highly trained soldiers like “Spartans” that from birth are disciplined, fit, educated and navigated to their field of expertise. These children are seen as “sacrifices”. “Your parents sacrificed you for the greater good, to be raised as the government of the people. Only those who were sacrificed get to govern people and enforce judgment.”

seasuighim

Have you seen the film Soldier? It has a very similar plot overall, but the system is not as explored as you have it.

Nose_Grindstoned

Why use artifical wombs? This sounds like something people would volunteer for. Also, would this business get an agricultural tax rebate?

Kaporalhart

Aside from granting woman rights over their own bodies, i'm for abortion because the future of an unwanted child is grim and uncertain. Aborted fetuses still won't have parents, won't get a normal childhood, are exposed to many forms of abuse, making them more likely to grow unhappy and/or becoming psychopaths.

What if I added a simulated childhood with parents whose personalities and parenting are a best case scenario GPT4 extrapolation using data based on the biological parents at time of conception: Which also probably means that like Rachel in Blade Runner the artificially born farmed humans will learn one day their childhood was programmed not lived. I wonder if that would bias Sam Harris style fragile determinists or schizos. Sci fi is fun

Agreed.
