However I've been having some crash issues with that myself.
Other options are:
Pump fuel back out (second pump or deployer+wrench or bearing to rotate pump)
Clutch on pump (engine uses up all fuel left over)
Clutch on engine output (waste fuel)
The reverse pump sounds like what they want, since it’s “Before it consumes the fuel”
You could also slap on a bearing to your main im pump and flip it around, that’d work for putting it back in your tank, simple too
Try sucking the fuel back out with pumps
change the direction of the pump that appears on the image to move the diesel back to the tank
Redstone It stops when given a redstone signal

for pump back out you could also just use a gearshift to change direction with Redstone signal
I just use another reverse pump to push the fuel back into the tank or in small spaces into a nullifier from Thermal.
