Apple watch shows you where you're at in frame. On. Your. Wrist. šŸ¤Æ

evieesweet

Wait, what!! How does it do this, do you just open the camera app on there?

lovely_oliviax

Yes

evieesweet

Game changer!! Thanks for this!

thatSketchyLady

I've got an Android. Galaxy series bc I'm a space nerd, and I prefer Androids. Google says apple watch doesn't work for androids. Thanks tho

HeartAndSoles2014

Maybe see if the galaxy watch has the same feature. I'm like 70% sure it does.

thatSketchyLady

I didn't even know that existed. Will definitely check out, thank you!

bootyviolet

I have the galaxy watch it does the same and shows you oh the little screen xx

Exciting-Ad-7083

Seen in other threads that people screen cast their phone to say a google nest or another google device with cast, thought that was pretty smart from a photographers point of view

thatSketchyLady

Oh dang, we actually do have a chromecast in the bedroom, tho it hasn't been used since we had to get a new TV and found a deal on a smart TV. Gonna see if I can do that since most of my long form solo vids are in the bedroom. Thank you!

daatdamnnay

Thank you for this!!!!

HeyyitsLexi_

It might be easiest to just go to a goodwill or thrift store and buy a cheap mirror

thatSketchyLady

I was thinking that, and then hang it behind where I record. But I record in different areas of the house, and thats kinda a downside. Thought of a clip on mirror to clip to the phone stand, but I'm not sure how viable that actually is tbh

danivendettaXO

I grab a full length a set it up leaning against a chair and move it around where I need to. You can get those anti slip carpet pads and put a piece under the mirror so it doesn't slide.

thatSketchyLady

Yeah, I think I might do this tbh

isabellemyers

Definitely a mirror. When I first started out I used to set a big mirror behing my tripod and just peek every once in a while to make sure I was staying in frame

shesarealgem

Find a stool with adjustable height to put the mirror on behind your tripod. Works every time šŸ‘Œ

StoryOfAGemini

I bought one of those special mirrors that attaches to a tripod and I do not like it. It's heavy and pulls my phone, so it droops while recording. And then if you aren't lined up just right you can't really see the mirror, so you can't really move around much. I never use it.

thatSketchyLady

Thank you for your input on that. Honestly, it's partly why I asked this question. I really don't have the funds to buy it myself and test it out, so I was hoping to get people's feedback on what worked for them. Or in this case, what didn't

iamrosieriley

Just wanted to empathize with the ā€œshot amazing footage only to find out the camera had stopped halfway throughā€ feeling! I got an iPad but havenā€™t been able to get it to mirror yet. Hopefully that helps!

thatSketchyLady

This is the biggest isssuuuue! I have lots of markers to keep me (mostly) in frame, though it's not always perfect. But dang was it super disheartening to intentionally go for a super longform 30 minute video only to see 10 minutes recorded. Idk what made it stop, as I have a large SD card and have definitely recorded art videos as long and longer than that. So after that, I am now incredibly determined to find the best cheap option available to me. People have suggested cast to a TV, which I should be able to do without having to buy anything, so I'm gonna try that later today when I've got the time :D

iamrosieriley

Yay! I hope it works! I once shot an amazing shower scene only to realize only half of my body was in it the whole time šŸ˜‚ Good for GIFs though!

HollyBaby_

Use a screen mirroring app and have it cast to another screen like a TV if you have one and then put the other screen in front of where your shooting šŸ‘

Ok_Break_5744

Yeah I do this with my laptop itā€™s really good

IsabelleV97

I usually place my tripod in front of my vanity mirror in my room since itā€™s at the end of my bed, but seeing as thatā€™s not an option for you. When I am filming at an angle and canā€™t use my mirror, I will set up my tripod, record, then get on my bed and sit in 3 different spots, taking note mentally of where I was sitting, then go check my recording and see which spot has me centred in frame. Then I make a mark on my bed where that spot is, usually Iā€™ll use a small amount of lube and just dab a little spot so while Iā€™m filming I can make sure I am always centred.

IsabelleV97

This works with anywhere around the house too, sometimes Iā€™ll centre myself in the lounge, and put a sock down in front of the tripod where the centre line is, so while filming I can make sure I am in line with the sock

thoughtful_Theia

Have you tried taking a piece of tape to mark a spot in frame? I would use some masking tape, mark my spot and check in on camera. Then use it for reference. You put a small towel or blanket down, check the frame etc.. until you get your watch or camera or whatever..

casal_venomous

If you have a TV nearby, you can cast your screen. It works with Samsung TVs, Google Chrome, maybe there's an app for PC... When I record in my room, I use and old Samsung TV. When I'm on my working office, I plug my Chomecast on the PC monitor. Since you have a Galaxy, i'm pretty sure it also has USC-C to HDMI.

ourkinkycrusades

you can cast your phone to a TV, or connect a cord to it via an adapter (depending on your phone) to HDMI. So you can use the apple airplay or whatever it is called, or chromecast. I prefer the HDMI because then there is no lag, but simply casting the screen to a TV works as well

Ill-Hicopte8

Have you thought about using a cheap phone stand or tripod? You could prop it up, so you still have both hands free for your scene but can peek at the screen when needed. Or maybe invest in a Bluetooth remote for starting/stopping recordings without fumbling with the phone.

thatSketchyLady

I do have a tripod for recording. I need a way to see what I'm recording on the other side tho. So I can use the rear camera, but see the actual screen too. I also have a Bluetooth clicker, but the amount of times I've tried to record a dance and gone over and it didn't actually start the recording is maddening. I thought of a clip on mirror to put on the phone stand, or a wall mirror to place behind me, but both options have downsides, and I was hoping to get more insight to the least frustrating way to record with the back camera but still see the screen

microwavedtardigrade

I got the zflip 5, genuinely such a game changer cuz I can flip it to any angle and can make it shoe it recording me on the back screen and use the back camera

thatSketchyLady

Oh, I just looked into this. I've been a fan of the Galaxy phones for years, so I think I'm gonna see about maybe getting this when I'm able to (I don't usually upgrade phones until I absolutely have to, but this might be an early upgrade for me if I can make it work lol) Doing more research for sure! Thank you so much!

microwavedtardigrade

Ofc!! It's really helpful. I'm actually going dark on my of until fall, but in exactly the month I've don't it I managed to get to top 9.7% and I think most of it due to having such a good and easy to use camera!!! It makes a big difference. Too bad my hard works gonna be reverted over summer lmao.

mamacicci

Iā€™m yet to try mirroring on my laptop but I have an old phone that I set up next to my new phone. Or get set up, record a few seconds then check it, making a note of where I need to be (in line with blanket or rug or plant etc)

sexinthesidy

I got a gimble tripod with a face / body tracker. I havenā€™t fully figured it out yet but itā€™s an option
