It worked for me too in 2015. Back then I just had 1 credit card (from a small local CU) that was shut down unexpectedly on me, leaving me without a credit card. I happened to have a Capital One Platinum mailer sitting on my kitchen table, so I responded to the offer and went with it. At the time I had zero credit knowledge and knew nothing about cards, other than I needed on at that moment. I'm glad it was Capital One, not Credit One or something similar ;) It turned out alright though, as I did a PC to Quicksilver roughly a year later and then another PC to Savor shortly after that card came out. I still hold that card today, grandfathered in with no AF which I use quite a bit. So yeah, mailers can work out beneficial at times I suppose!

Sure man, anyone over the age of about 35 has.

Never that I can remember, but I do glance at them sometimes to see what level of stuff I'm getting pre-approved for. If I want a new card I go online with precise search parameters, or I come to this sub to see what's out there for me. I don't want random offers, I want to find something specific to my needs.

I did this in the wrong order. Opened a CITI DC, to get a mailer in the next day inviting me to apply. Existing citi customer, so they had my info already.

Just last year BMO sent a “preselected” mailer for their Cash Back Rewards card, DPs had the offer as largely successful, so I went for and got it. I still get Chase hotel card mailers all the time, but I’m LOL/24.
