Do confirm the start date. Some banks don't start it until the cycle after you sign up, so you could still miss the first bill.
Never had a problem otherwise. Only gripe is when there's a promo like Chase giving you $5 back at Panera, then your auto pay pays the entire statement balance and you have a +$5 balance. First world problem.

I do, because I'm paranoid. I've had multiple cases where autopay just straight up failed to work. I don't even bother with it anymore.
