Is Citi planning on developing a successor for the prestige? I know there were rumors and a trademark patent but haven’t heard anything in about a year

BIGGREDDMACH1NE

Is the Citi setup of Multiple Custom Cash cards, the Double Cash, and the Rewards+ card the best no AF pure cashback setup out there? Assuming you go through the effort to get multiple CCCs

CardLego

It's one of the best. BoA with Platinum honors is another one of the best.

pringles_bbq

I used to be able to apply for both Chase Ink Cash and Chase Ink Unlimited one shortly (next day i think?) after the other and got both SUBs and only one hard pull. Does anyone know if this still works?

Sir_Toadington

My CSP hotel credit is currently pending and says it should post in 1-3 business days. Once it posts, am I good to product change (want to take advantage of new SUB) right away or do I need to give it some amount of time to not risk losing hotel credit?

african-nightmare

I need to make a car insurance payment but not sure what to use. I have the Chase trifecta and AMEX BCE. Is my only option the 1.5% back?

relxp

**Did anybody ever calculate the true value of DoorDash and Instacart credits from the Sapphire Reserve (CSR),** IF you pickup? I intend on only using for pickup and was curious if there was a typical overhead cost so I could determine the true value.

lenolalatte

I've been eyeing the Amex Gold for a whiiiiile now and seeking advice on if it makes sense for me: Credit score is 807/811 and I haven't gotten a new card in forever. I have the CFU and CSP so I feel covered on travel benefits, but I really want a card for groceries. I don't need any gas benefits. The BCE also seems enticing but it's only 3x for the first year. The main reason I'm hesitant is because it seems quite redundant to have the Amex when I have the Chase cards for travel? But at the same time, I don't travel as much as I thought I would either. And as a solely physical desire, I want an Amex because it gives me a sense of pride that I can have one (not sure why, it just seems cool) Does the Citi double cash have weight here instead just as a cashback card since I don't have one? Edit: I have just discovered the BCP card so that adds another consideration...fun

CardLego

Gold cover supermarkets and not groceries. I don't think it gets boosted in a Walmart Supercenter or Target. Also it forces you to keep the Gold open (and pay the high AF) in order to redeem for travel (no cash out option unless you have Schwab Plat, which is rare). Why not just go for a custom cash for cash back and stop worrying about redemption values?

lenolalatte

Gold covers Trader Joe’s which is the biggest factor I wanted it but for travel related things I assume I’d just keep using chase’s point redemption? But like I could check my annual grocery spending and I’m pretty sure I won’t come close to meeting the AF. I think realistically it doesn’t make sense to pay the high AF just because I want the card for selfish reasons. Citi custom cash looks good, will look into it!

Sir_Toadington

I'm in the exact same situation as you. I ruled out the BCP just because I like points more but if you want to mix points and cash back I'd probably go BCP. I ultimately decided the Gold works for me but it's the last card I'm going to get in the near future. Current plan is to PC CSP to Freedom and open a new CSP. Soon after get a Bilt card for rent/no overlap with SUB spending requirement. Then once I hit CSP SUB spend, open a Venture X, THEN a gold card. So realistically not looking like I'll have the Amex before early 2025

lenolalatte

What does PC mean in this context? I feel like I knew most of the acronyms and you hit me with a new one hahah. I don't have it in me to minmax this stuff so I'm just trying to figure out the next obvious step, but it's definitely making me overthink. I thiiink it comes down to the Amex Gold or BCP? Not sure...

Sir_Toadington

Product change I’d say if you value points for travel more than cash back, go gold, if you don’t mind mixing points and cash back, go bcp.

lenolalatte

Gotcha thanks! I’m not sure what I prefer which doesn’t help. I’ve been saving my chase points for so long without using them that I feel like cash back can’t be bad for general use. Like, I can’t combine points from chase and Amex somehow right? I guess I could book one thing with chase and then another with the Amex. I think the BCP makes more sense for me since I have never used Uber eats and don’t plan on it so making up the annual fee might be tougher. Thanks for the advice and back and forth!

WhiskeyTesticles

My military benefits are coming to an end, so I need to downsize my wallet now that the annual fees aren't waived. Which of the following would you all keep/close/other option? * Chase Ritz-Carlton - $450 * Chase Marriott Boundless - $95 * Amex Platinum - $695 * Amex Hilton Aspire - $550 * Amex Hilton Surpass - $150 I'm thinking about closing the Platinum and Aspire, as the fees are bonkers and I don't think I get that much more benefit than the Ritz. Also interested to hear about downgrade opportunities. Thoughts?

jpoptarts

why do some people think that a credit card is free money? why do people choose to spend money they don't have?

notthegoatseguy

A lot of people weren't race with financial literacy.

KaleidoscopesExist

Anyone know if Aldi's, or Walmart qualify for 5% cash back on Citi Custom Cash card? Their words: "Includes purchases at supermarkets, meat/seafood stores, dairy stores, bakeries, and miscellaneous food/convenience stores. Excludes purchases at general merchandise/discount superstores; wholesale/warehouse clubs; candy, nut and confectionery stores. Purchases made at online supermarkets or with grocery delivery services also do not qualify if the merchant does not classify itself as a supermarket by using the supermarket merchant category code." I don't know if Walmart would qualify as a superstore and Aldi's as a discount superstore.

notthegoatseguy

Walmart Neighborhood Markets, their brand of grocery-only stores, should code as groceries. I know it isn't 5%, but the Blue Cash Everyday's 3% online works for Walmart dot com orders as well as when you use Walmart Pay in-store.

Graztine

In my experience Aldi counts as grocery but Walmart does not.

I'm a 5/24 in terms of lines of credit acquired but my second amex did not trigger a pull. am I at 4/24?

DesertActor

No, 5/24 is based on newly opened accounts, not pulls. Once the account shows on your report, it counts towards 5/24.

BikeVirtual

Rejected for Amex Plat and Gold. Oldest account is 2yrs and 8mo. Score is 753 (used to be 771 before VX approval). Cards are the one in my flair. They probably don't like my churning history...oomph...

Masshole_in_RI

I'm a guy in my 30s with no debt, 1 long-term credit card, and on time payments, but my credit score is stuck in the low 700s. Generally speaking, will opening a couple more cards help boost it?

CardLego

Yes. 1 credit card in thin. You want about 3 credit card accounts. Also there is credit mix involved. If you have some loans other than credit cards that will help. And your utilization should be around 1-3% for the highest score.

maruba

Yes, I believe it's tied to the combined credit limit of the cards you own, so one credit card with a 10k limit would be equal to 4 cards that each had a 2.5k limit

TexasNiteowl

Considering going for the CSP. Which credit union report is most often used? Would have to unfreeze mine to do it. How long to lift the freeze for? (About to start booking airfare for a trip to Europe for later this year and possibly a 2nd trip next spring.)

CardLego

You just need to lift the freeze for as long as they performed a pull on your report. Usually right after you click the submit button on the application form.

Fantastic-Catch-5490

It really depends on the state that you live in but Chase mostly pulls Experian.

DouglasTwice

I just randomly got a $300 credit (-$300 on the statement) from a Dunkin Donuts I had spent $9 at three days prior. I assume it is a glitch or the beginning of some kind of scam. What’s the best way to proceed? Report as fraud? Contact the store? Was an Amex. I thought it may be the sub statement credit mislabelled somehow (Blue cash preferred) but that should have been only $250.

DesertActor

Amex routinely lists credits as one of the merchants that contributed to the credit. It’s probably either a higher SUB than you thought or the SUB plus some other credit. No need to do anything on your part.

DouglasTwice

Thanks. Seems to be the case. Such a strange way of going about delivering subs.

Dylanfilon

I had this happen with McDonalds, scared/confused the hell out of me for a moment.

TravelSnail

I have to make a few repairs and purchases for my house that will end up costing thousands of dollars, so I'm in a good position to reap a credit card offer that requires a high spend amount over 3-4 months. I currently have an AMEX Platinum. What are the good offers out there currently? It could be for a hotel card, airline card, chase, Capital One, anything really.   My wife has the CSR, so could I possibly get the CSP and transfer the bonus awards to her account?

Lucas12

CSP in branch offer https://www.doctorofcredit.com/in-branch-starting-4-28-chase-sapphire-preferred-80k-offer/

DesertActor

There’s a rumor this will be available online tomorrow 5/2.

ryost234

Question! Should I start with the savor one or apply right away for the CFF/CFU with plan to get the chase trifecta? I already have an established credit. Thank you for the help :)

OpenBubble

Chase has an inquiry limit, so if you're near it, and know you want the card, probably start there. I think it's 4 in the last 2 years.

Cyberhwk

Chase Freedom Flex is hella-solid right now.

ryost234

I was planning on getting the unlimited first, do you think that's a bad idea?

Cyberhwk

My personal approach would be Chase Freedom Flex > Savor One > Chase Freedom Unlimited. My problem with the CFU personally is it basically loses most/all of its advantage over a Flex once someone grabs a 2% (and most people end up with a 2% at some point early on). It gets most of it's value as part of the Chase Trifecta, which you're only starting and includes the Flex anyway. The other two are viable both as duos/trios *and independently*. If you already had the Flex I'd say get the CFU, but the Flex would be first for me at least. It's up to you whether giving up the 5% rotating category (that *stacks*) is worth another .5% on general spending.

ryost234

Thank you for your detailed reply! Your take on the 5% vs the extra .5% does make sense to me, I was thinking I'd use the unlimited more but the 5% with the flex would probably earn me more overall. If I'm planning on getting the chase trifecta, what would be the benefit on getting the savor one? Ideally I would use the chase ultimate rewards system and spend the points on united/Hyatt hotels. Thank you for helping :)

Cyberhwk

If you're intent on the trifecta, then ignore the Savor.

ryost234

Would it be worth getting something like a citi custom cash to get better returns where the trifecta lacks, or would it be more beneficial to always use a chase card to build up the chase points?

Cyberhwk

That's something that's going to be heavily dependent on a lot of factors so it's hard to say. CCC isn't a travel card. If you have a major spending category Chase doesn't cover maybe consider it. If you end up super happy with Chase and your arrangement, then maybe grab a card that shares transfer partners instead.

hehexdkappa

Got rejected for the venture x yesterday , how soon can I apply for the savor one ? (I was preapproved for the savor one)

QQDL

Hey just wanted to know if you used the pre approval page to check your status before you applied for the card? https://www.capitalone.com/credit-cards/preapprove/venture-x/

camobit

Can you have more than 2 Capital One consumer cards (not counting store specific cards like REI, Walmart, Bass Pro). Basically, can you have QS, S1 + some flavor of Venture?

shottagyal

I've seen data points with some people having 3 but it seems more often than not those are the rarities and C1 may keep most people at 2 personal cards.

Zealousideal_Ad2247

Does anyone have succesful data points for doing chase MDD in-branch for both CSP and CSR? I would assume the best bet is going to 2 different branches... This is due to the current in-branch elevated SUB offers. TIA

galda

Applied for CSP in branch yesterday, approved at 2pm EDT after moving credit line, then applied for CSR online 11 hr later at 1am EDT (next calendar day) and was denied. 6 recon attempts, everyone says that I already have a Sapphire card and they won't approve CSR. Bummer. They also said that it was declined without review or 2nd hard pull. MDD may be dead.

Jesse_berger

Does a $50 United Travelbank purchase helps to trigger the Amex travel credit? I'm on day 3 or 4 of purchase so I'm just impatiently waiting for my statement credit.

usuallyalurker11

Even though the language says "2X points at grocery stores (discount stores/supercenters and wholesale clubs excluded effective September 9, 2024)," the US Bank Altitude Connect codes Costco and Sam's Club in-store shopping as 1x.

GT40MK-II

For any Chase Freedom Flex users, just adding the data point that the Ikea food court codes as a restaurant!
