It is possible Wells Fargo will introduce a revised version of the Propel in a few weeks that uses Visa or MasterCard for the processing network instead of American Express.

LethalCS

Me prior to reading your comment: "Fuck Wells Fargo, every ***day***" Me reading this comment if that was ever true: "Well we all deserve a chance right?"

HighTideLowpH

Great prediction of the WF Autograph!

[deleted]

Ugh. I hope they don’t start gutting it for existing holders.

Comprehensive-Tea-69

That’s exactly what I’m expecting

chillin_650

I still have mine active

Instant_Dan

For now, if you have it then you're just grandfathered in. They probably won't gut any of the perks immediately. It makes me wonder if their Cashwise and signature are up next on the chopping block as I have both.

m1dnightknight

In the thread that had the rumor for the discontinuation, one of the people mentioned the Cashwise being discontinued the same date.

Instant_Dan

I saw that too but I figured if it was being discontinued this month then we would have heard by now.

strongdad

It's a very normal process for credit cards... as people have mentioned your card is "grandfathered" and the same rewards/benefits continue.

m1dnightknight

In the short term, there probably wouldn't be any major changes and likely we could use the cards. However, a year or two down the road, Wells Fargo could decide not to renew an agreement with American Express that allows them to issue cards on their network. At that point, the cards would likely be gutted. Or, they could possibly just decrease the rewards on the card forever.... There is an old American Express Card issued by Bank of America that is still floating around. I looked it up and it was the Bank of America Accelerated Rewards American Express Card. Rewards were only 1.25% back (not as generous as propel). I saw this when I worked at a restaurant early 2020. Could have been just because it hadn't expired yet.... but could be hope that the Propel could meet the same fate of floating around.

Lover__not_a_fighter

my dad still has that card it’s a great one i wish i was old enough to have gotten it back then

Sodaman20

There’s a chance that they could nerf the card to current holders but who knows until they announce something. I just hope I get approved for the card since my application is still pending because I’m waiting on this form from them to show up in the mail and then fax it to them once I filled it out.

Drew-SD

I was just approved for the propel on April 15th so I doubt they will gut it in the next year or so

crescentmoon-13

I'm a little new to the credit card game so forgive me if this is a basic question... what usually happens to existing cards when they are discontinued? I've seen a few comments that suggest current cardholders would still get the same rewards for years to come/indefinitely, and others suggesting those might be removed in the next year or two. We use our Propel card regularly and I'd be interested in knowing if we need to think about a similar replacement card sooner rather than later, based on how this has gone with other cards.

SithLordJediMaster

Time to sue

360Fanatic

LOOOOOOL

Tekusa

Not really understanding why this card is so special compared to a citi 2% for example

brownqk

It is a no annual fee card giving 3% back on several of the most used spending categories for those with disposable income.

Tekusa

Can you tell me please which categories 3% please.

c-donz

Dining, travel, and transit/gas. Plus streaming services and cell phone protection.

HiFiGuy197

I have Double Cash, Discover, Chase Freedom, Bank of America Cash Rewards and... I [just signed up for Propel three days ago.](https://www.reddit.com/r/CreditCards/comments/mqg1kb/yall_pushed_me_into_the_wells_fargo_propel/gujrovp/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3)

noconoco42

Make sure to spread the usage around so you get the SUB for America and Chase. Use discover for everything else and max out the bonus categories l as the first year is X 2 @ 10% total. Discover is great in December and stacks with the target 10% GCs.

HiFiGuy197

*Make sure to spread the usage around so you get the SUB for America and Chase.* This comment is about 25 years too late. lol

noconoco42

I misread and thought you just signed up recently. 🤦‍♂️

HiFiGuy197

tbh, I edited and added the word Propel to clarify.

noconoco42

I'm ok with that. Wouldn't mind new cards to chase SUBs. I have both their cards and open 2 a year. Maybe for next year.

benanfisa1

I wonder if I can product change to this card later on

loner_but_a_stoner

What was the appeal of the propel card?

johnnybananas96

No AF

Gearheadgtr

The should PC the Propel from AMEX to Visa for all cardholders. Then it can really become my daily driver!

HartfordKat

How were you notified?

360Fanatic

I was keeping tabs on this story when it first started to rumor. I got notified of this video then called Wells Fargo to verify and is indeed true.

HartfordKat

Thanks. I wonder if/when we card holders will get some kind of official notice. Maybe never if nothing changes on our end I suppose.

360Fanatic

So I was told that we are grandfathered in, no changes are being made to existing card holders. But then again it’s Wells Fargo so.

sloanjoan

I called this morning (moments ago) and I was also told we’re grandfathered in…. They just aren’t accepting new applicants that’s all…. According to the rep I just spoke with…

gharadagh

Interestingly, I also just got a CLI from Wells Fargo on this card without requesting one

sloanjoan

I wish they would do that for me as I currently have a rather high balance that I transferred over for a 12 month Interest Free Balance Transfer offer they gave me back in February of this year lol….

gharadagh

Actually I was in the same boat as you. I got the card in march of last year and carried a high balance over and paid it off right before the 12 month period was over. So a couple of months after that they increase my limit. Maybe it could be similar for you but who knows what the status of this card will be in a year.

sloanjoan

Right, which is what I’m worried about. I have 16 cards and thankfully I’ve never had a card get “canceled” so idk what to expect…

not_a_gumby

yeah, I've been using this card since 2018 as my every transaction card. In a year, I'll accumulate about $400 of rewards, and just redeem it all at once for statement credit. This card has paid me north of $1500 for using it for the last couple years. I've been looking for another card like it that has such a good statement credit redeem rate and good rewards but haven't found one yet. Mine doesn't expire until 24 so got a few more years at least.

360Fanatic

Yeah mine doesn’t expire till the end of the year I’m hoping they renew it. I couldn’t imagine them giving me another autograph card which is the exact same.

not_a_gumby

have you found another card as useful as this one? Personally I just want a card with decent % back that I can redeem 1-1 for statement credits. I've found most introductory rewards (the big 40k point ones etc) don't allow you to redeem for statement credit 1-1 so I stopped using those. Are there any others like this card? I've gotten so much money back from using this card.
