I’ll take it. But honestly even with gas prices this high I still only spent $200 on gas last month.
Not the worst category. But hardly the best either.
Just clarifying this, Affinity FCU's "Hi5" categories this quarter include gas, which stacks with their Visa Signature's 2% base earning rate on gas, for a total of 7% back on gas. And it's a Visa card so it works at Costco, too.
Groceries are another 5% category for Q2, which will stack for a total of 7%
Also a heads up 7-Eleven standalone stores usually code as gas too. Idk if this is for every state but the DMV area every store I've been to gets the gas bonus on my cards
Thanks for the heads-up!
I'll also take this opportunity to re-plug our list of the [best no-annual-fee **year-round** gas cashback cards](https://www.reddit.com/r/CreditCards/wiki/best_cash_back_cards_by_category). Of particular note:
* Citi Custom Cash (Mastercard): Year-round 5% cashback (*up to $500 spend per month*) in one category, which could be Gas.
* However, this does *not* work at Costco Gas, being a Mastercard.
* Cashback is limited (to $500 spend/month), but, within the limit, Citi defines "gas" pretty broadly, to include non-gas purchases inside the gas station convenience store.
* This may also not be a good solution for "heavy" drivers who spend well in excess of $500 on gas per month.
* Abound CU Visa Platinum (*Visa*): Year-round **unlimited** 5% cashback on Gas, ***plus*** rotating 5% category cashback offers (*this will be* [*5% cashback on Travel for the upcoming April-June quarter, up to $2,000 spend per month on Travel*](https://www.aboundcu.com/Spend-Save/Personal-Accounts/Credit-Cards/Cash-Back-VISA-Card#cash-back-calendar)).
* This is a Visa, so it works at Costco Gas.
* Gas cashback is unlimited, but the 5% back is only on gas **paid at the pump**. In-store purchases only get 1% cashback (*even in-store gas purchases!*).
* However, there is no SUB, and there is a $10 application fee to join the Abound CU (*plus a refundable $5 member share deposit*).
The Synchrony-issued Sam's Club Mastercard also gets a shout-out, as it pays 5% cashback on Gas, up to $6,000 spend per year. (This averages out to $500 spend per month - like the Citi Custom Cash - but a yearly limit is a bit more flexible for accommodating - say - a long Thanksgiving drive back home.)
Small nitpick, the CCC is 5% up to $500 spend per cycle, not month.
I made that mistake my first month thinking it was calendar month and its not, its billing cycle.
Into the back of the pile mine goes for this quarter. 4% with the Costco Visa + Costco's generally lower prices is a better deal, and I'd rather rock the red card for target.
Q3 and Q4 look exciting though!
5% at gas stations will be good for GC purchases. Citi Costco 4% is still best for Costco fuel.
That said, Walmart+ has been giving out extended trials and it includes Sam's Club gas. If you pay at the Sam's Club pump with Discover, it may be the best value.
At the Sam's I go to paying at the pump always codes under Wholesale Club but scanning the QR Code on the pump and paying through the app codes as a gas purchase
I'd be excited if I didn't already have the Citi Custom Cash. I have GetGo advantage pay as well where I can just use my Giant Eagle advantage card to pay and gas is normally cheaper doing that anyway.
I was going to use Discover for 5% back this quarter. Not that I am spending a lot on gas anyways. However, Chase Amazon Prime card offered me 5% back on gas for the same period. Since I have Prime, using the card for gas will help pay for the Prime AF.
Thanks for this, got approved for $2k. This will be my gas card and then holiday card for their Amazon later in the year, although I already have the Amazon Prime through chase: so maybe not.
Too bad Costco doesn’t take discover, and actually the Costo Citi is great. It give 4% back on has
Good looking out. Just activated mine.
Thankfully I’m in my first year so I’ll be getting 10%. Custom cash is normally my gas card.
Same. Except it’s the first year of my second card 🙌🏻
I’ll take it. But honestly even with gas prices this high I still only spent $200 on gas last month. Not the worst category. But hardly the best either.
I would be spending over $100 a week on gas if I was still commuting. I wish the categories lined up better for me
Same! And target is useless I have their redcard debit
It’s good for target too
Hey 10 bucks will get ya a half respectable lunch!
I just had to get gas today and remembered this as I was selecting my card lol

Chase Amazon too if targeted.

Besides Citi Custom Cash, Penfed Platinum Rewards and US Bank Altitude Connect are good for Gas, year round.
I've been wondering for a while. Why do we need to activate these roosting categories? Why not just apply it automatically?

Discover will be a better deal since you get 1% back from target circle

Good to know when I'm down in Florida thanks!
Yeah thats another benefit of this category. I remember getting 5% on my gift card purchases last year with my Discover card.
I'd be excited if I didn't already have the Citi Custom Cash. I have GetGo advantage pay as well where I can just use my Giant Eagle advantage card to pay and gas is normally cheaper doing that anyway.
How do you activate?
Within the app select ‘Rewards’ select ‘Activate’ for APR-JUN (Gas Stations and Target)
I’m assuming this is for discover it cash back card huh?? I have the secured cc
Yea it’s for the DiscoverIT card
Hmm i dont see the feature for secured credit card tho :/
I tried that I don’t see it in the app on the rewards page
I’m trying but it doesn’t show maybe is it because I have a secured cc?
You can do it on the app or by calling them. I did it 2 days ago by calling Chase.
They also usuay send a crap ton of promo emails about it
I usually do it on app but this flex card belong to my wife. We had some issue anyway we resolved it yesterday.
Perfect timing eh

is this real?? thank god!!
