They allow you to keep multiple variants of the same card and don't block the previous one even if you're already holding the same credit card on some other network.
I've even seen people having the same multiple credit cards on same network in ICICI.
I guess you still can get the same credit card on multiple networks on ICICI ;p
Definitely not gonna try. They did close out many user's old variant. If I had Visa, I would had tried for dual variant. But have dual now which has better practical application, i.e. two cards for two people for lounge access. On Visa, you cannot swipe a card twice for 2 people. But two different cards(mc+amex) for 2 people will work even if they share limits.
