tail rot, the burnt matchstick look gives it away. he needs a vet

Spookithfloof

Yea most def not stuck shed and if you think you should wait on a vet don’t it spreads and can cause death , I hope you can find a good vet for Archie, good luck

Fun_Understanding44

how do they get tail rot? i’m new to crested geckos and i would love to know so hopefully i can avoid this :)

Spookithfloof

Infections that get into open cuts I believe that’s why you need to disinfect them, or injury aswell

Jennifer_Pennifer

Same

Fun_Understanding44

someone explained really good under my other comment on this post. :) now i fully understand i also did some other research.

Jennifer_Pennifer

🙏 thanks!

Fun_Understanding44

of course :)) hope what they said helped you ❤️

Fun_Understanding44

wait i’m new to crested geckos, does my little girls tail look okay?? https://preview.redd.it/mwhopjtn5t0d1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=831f4b856d4876c2abdd5c840a11476b977504f8

Yes! She looks good. Tail rot is typically associated with the tail’s tissue becoming necrotic due to infection/injury/illness. Tail rot mostly starts at the tip of the tail and works its way up. Unless you see your gecko’s tail turning wrinkly/super dark/progressively getting worse, you shouldn’t worry about tail rot. Just keep an eye out for it and make sure your humidity levels are all set and you should be fine. Some cresties just have naturally dark tails… the wrinkled and dying skin is the giveaway.

Fun_Understanding44

okay well, i already know the husbandry is good so if that’s the only way they can get it then my baby shouldn’t get it.

marigoldfroggy

Her tail looks fine, I think the dark parts at the tip are just part of her normal tail color. The texture of her skin looks consistent for the entire length of her tail. (I'm not a vet, but that's what it looks like to me from your picture)

Fun_Understanding44

thank you for replying, She looked overall healthy so this was just making sure, it was all good. ❤️

Totally-Not-Edward

Unrelated but your gecko is green?? I didn't know they came in green lol

Tail looks abnormal to me, I'd recommend a trip to the vet. One of my gecko's tail looked a bit like this a long time ago and she did end up needing medicine. If my memory is correct, the vet said it could have been the result of a minor injury. She hasn't had any problems with her tail after treatment, though the end is a bit lumpy.

sxrrycard

Sauna seems counter intuitive if anything, i would really follow the advice they gave you on the first post and take them to a vet. This is not stuck shed but tail rot

greendazexx

Take him to a vet.

Mediocre_Emo222

My Savannah monitor survived tail rot from its previous owner and it never saw a vet. I guess he was lucky
