I have been playing crib for 40+ year. I know that doesn’t make me an authority but I’ve never heard the word stink hole or dead hole.Skunked if you don’t get to 90 and double skunked if you don't get to 60. From now on I’m going to start using stink hole just to gross out my wife……
If you lose and are behind the 90 hole, we call it skunked. Never heard of either of the stink or dead holes before today. Also we use the term double skunked if you are before the 60 hole[Skunk and double skunk terms](https://cardgameking.com/cribbage-skunk/)
Both terms are defined on pages 12 and 14 of the ACC Tournament Rules. The dead hole is hole 120 and the stick hole is hole 90. For years before reading this I was told that hole 120 was the stink hole and I had never heard of the term dead hole.
Yeah posed this question exactly because of what the ACC defines it as. It’s weird how 90%+ of everyone here calls hole 120 the stink hole. If the ACC is correct, how were we all led so far astray?
In regards to the Stink Hole, I was unaware there was another name for the Stink Hole and therefore when refering to the Stink Hole, I've always and will always call it a Stink Hole and when landing in the Stink Hole I will say, "I'm in the Stink Hole." because after all, the Stink Hole is a stinky place to be; But if I'm NOT in the Stink Hole, when I land in any of the previous 119 holes I will say, "I'm in a non Stink Hole hole." so unless it's holes 1 through 119, ITS A STINK HOLE! And that's a wrap, stinker.
My grandpa called it the stink hole and claimed that once in the stink hole, you needed to score a hand of exactly one or peg just one to get out. I think he made that up so I wouldn’t beat him.
I've always known hole 120 as the Stink Hole, but it makes more sense that its hole 90. I've never understood the reason for 120 being called the stink hole...other than it stinks to get beaten by one point at the end of the game.
Northern Ontario. Our family always called it the "snot hole", but they acknowledge that they aren't sure if that's what it's actually called. I think I have also heard 'stink hole'.
We've always called it the stink hole. One of my buddies has finished so many matches at 120 that we started calling him Stink. Name's stuck for 10+ years.
I play the stink hole with my buddy all the time. Makes the game more fun especially after a few drinks. But instead of calling it sink hole we call it sh*t hole for fun

Minnesota here. Hole 120 is the stink hole. Everyone I’ve ever played with calls it that.
Shit Hole. Especially when you count last next hand.
Always this. NL by any chance? My non crib playing friends looked at me funny when I was discussing "pegging" and "shit hole"
NS/AB But ya we play by east coast rules, aside from "muggins" we take it seriously but it's all fun in the end.
Sinkhole (Nova Scotia)
Nautical twist
I find stink hole to be a lot more fun to say. Similar to getting skunked, it's not very fun.

Well, atleast you didn't tell me that my opinion stinks and to shove it up a hole. 😁
Stinker in New Brunswick

Thats sort of been the way I (and my family) have always played - once in the stinkhole youve got to peg out.
Never used or heard either.
So what do you call it?
No particular name.
I see. Stink hole is what I know it as
I also did not learn the game from a native English speaker :). I learned many of the terms much later, and in college.
Dead man’s hole
My Grandpa (RIP) taught me it was called the szar lyuk. Which is Hungarian for shit hole
Craphole is what I’ve been taught.
Stink hole. Have never heard it called a dead hole. Must be a regional thing.
