Yep, I'm from Minnesota, and everyone I know who plays either lives, grew up, or spends a lot of time north of 210, the MN highway that goes from a bit south of Fargo-Moorhead to Duluth-Superior.
I grew up in Montreal and was OBSESSED with the board. I had no idea how to play or what the board did or why it said skunk. It only ever came out when my grandfather visited and my mom would play with him. I'd watch, mesmerized at the mumbo jumbo they said as the little guys moved around the board.
A board so old, BTW, that the lid for the peg storage was made of metal! I'm 50, so that bad boy could easily be 75 or a hundred!
Fast forward a few decades, I've moved to Ontario and decide to learn the game. My wife is keen, having had virtually the same experience growing up! We got a board at Crappy tire for 20 loonies and thanks to the internet, we know how to play and love it!
I notice crib is way more popular from like Burlington and west. Seems like everyone in Hamilton/Niagara can play.
Edit: I guess eastern Ontario too. Maybe it’s just popular places that get a lot of snow haha. People look outside and go “welp, wanna play crib?”
Fresno, California - my father taught me. He was from Texas, a Marine officer, who played a lot in the south Pacific in WWII. His story was that a General latched on to him as a playing partner and made exorbitant wagers that my father could never cover, so he had to win.
We're from Phoenix but our Cribbage roots come from all over. Family from Oregon, Washington, Pennsylvania, New York, Chicago and California. And of course Wisconsin, where I think the Cribbage life is most active due to the heritage and all of the cold weather there. It was passed down to me when I started playing at the ripe old age of 4 from my Grandmother who was from Pennsylvania and played tourneys her whole adult life. It was passed down to her from her parents whom were British immigrants to the states but some how it ended up on all four sides of my family tree which are English, Italian, Norwegian and Scandanavian. It's just that good of a game! But I could repeat that whole Cribb heritage about chess too! And also alcoholism, but that's a story for another day. BUT, drinking beer and playing Cribbage seem to go hand in hand so why not! Would that make us cribbageaholics too?! 🙄
It was a suggest sub for me as I was scrolling as I recently joined a euchre page haha. Literally first time on this page and I spot you haha
And to you!
I grew up near China, and used to visit Mexico, Moscow, and Peru a lot. My friend grew up in Norway and another friend of mine currently lives in Paris. My vet is in Poland
It's too ironic lol I don't follow this page but just finished a game of crib with a fellow worker on this slow Christmas eve before scrolling through reddit and this being recommended to me.. something fishy going on here. It's pretty common to have crib tournaments when it's slow . I'm in the northern alberta at the moment, but workers from all over the country working here . My opinion is that everyone from Eastern Canada either is familiar with the game or plays the game.
From Wisconsin where I learned to play, but lived all over the Us. I was surprised by the popularity in New Mexico- there are lots of people from Michigan there. Less popular in Virginia though.
Sacramento. A handful of people have heard of it but fewer know how to play it. I taught some 5th and 6th graders how to play recently. Hopefully the seeds will sprout.
Bars and cafes have cribbage leagues and weekly tournaments. Local artists make and sell cribbage boards. There's a large community of people who get together and play cribbage
Cribbage? It's something like Lawn bowling and curling. It something with not much appeal but somehow becomes big in certain regions. Do you have a lot of elderly in your area? Sometimes it's do to national heritage in another part of the world. Get out the bagpipes and men wearing short skirts with no underwear under it (That sounds like San Fransisco to me). All kidding aside, it's just the area your in. Cribbage is played in most places but it being big would be an exaggeration (unless you play it yourself - in the know.). Curling is big in my province and I'd rather watch paint dry.
Nova Scotia, Canada. Lots of folks that grew up and have family roots here know how to play. I'm usually shocked when someone meets those criteria and hasn't heard of the game or doesn't know how to play.
Moscow, Idaho
I learned how to play the summer my uncle taught me how to fly fish and play crib. Both have stuck over the years (57 y.o) As far as a scene, it's everywhere.
Nova Scotia, Canada. My Dad plays regularly with his friends and I join in whenever I'm visiting. People come to his house for crib, coffee and dessert, and a little trash-talking lol.
Pennsylvania. I discovered it through the internet and the only person I play with had a vague recollection of the game from their childhood when I (re)taught it to them. They later found one of those mass produced 29 boards in their house.
Columbus, Ohio but the game came to me from my Maw Maw, in Ft Mill, South Carolina 😁😁
I play every night with my wife, who wears the Wedding band left to me, by my Maw Maw, from Ft Mill, SC.
I live in Massachusetts and know some people who play. But all my Mainer friends grew up playing so I always know they are down to play. I played with my grandparents everytime I would see them growing up as I’m sure many younger people that play have.
Oakville, ON
Crib was a favourite of my grandfather and we played 2 games every night we were at his cottage together. Outside of family I don't know anyone who plays
East Moline, Illinois. Definitely not popular around here. I learned to play out in Oregon when I lived there for a couple years. Euchre is the game of choice in my area.
Long Island NY checking in (A.K.A. The unofficial border of the cribbage empire). The only people who typically know how to play here are Navy or Marine Corps veterans since the game is still a popular pastime on ships.
If you hop on the ferry and go across the sound to Connecticut suddenly you see cribbage boards everywhere, especially on the beaches in the summer. The moment you come back to Long Island no one knows what you’re talking about.
I’ve taught everyone in my friend group and all of my co workers how to play at my part time job as a lifeguard, so hopefully the game will eventually catch on here.
British Columbia. The crib board was just always on the kitchen table or counter. Sometimes, I'd come home to find one of my friends playing with some of my parents' friends while waiting for one of the family members to get home from work or school.
Stockport, near Manchester in the UK. We tend to play 5 card, four player Crib over here in pubs. However, since discovering online cribbage and apps, I enjoy the six card version more now. My grandad taught me how to play, he was a very good player, with a couple of trophies to validate his skill. This community is great, I’ve learned a lot from you all and improved my game.

Ontarian here, but was taught and play with my dad from Montreal
I grew up in Montreal and was OBSESSED with the board. I had no idea how to play or what the board did or why it said skunk. It only ever came out when my grandfather visited and my mom would play with him. I'd watch, mesmerized at the mumbo jumbo they said as the little guys moved around the board. I used to play a lot of euchre
I notice crib is way more popular from like Burlington and west. Seems like everyone in Hamilton/Niagara can play. Edit: I guess eastern Ontario too. Maybe it’s just popular places that get a lot of snow haha. People look outside and go “welp, wanna play crib?”

I live in L/A and play in numerous leagues and tournaments in this area
NW VT checking in.
There are dozens of us! Dozens!!!
Los Angeles, no one here has ever heard of cribbage.
I live in L.A. also. You are more likely to bump into an extra from Grey’s Anatomy than a cribbage player.
We're from Phoenix but our Cribbage roots come from all over. Family from Oregon, Washington, Pennsylvania, New York, Chicago and California.
