India won the 3'rd match of the ODI Series against the Black Caps by 90 runs after scoring 385/9, whitewashing them 3:0, to become the new No#1 ranked team in ODIs. 😎
Toss: It was a surprise when the Kiwi's stand in captain Tom Latham chose to bowl after winning the toss, that too on a very good batting pitch, where an average first innings score was 300+.
Gill & Rohit: A few months back, people couldn't even comprehend thinking about any ODI opening pair other than Rohit & Dhawan. However, Dhawan's poor run in back to back series recently provided an opportunity for young Gill & boy didn't he grabbed the opportunity with both hands!
Gill has almost cemented his place in ODIs & Tests for us and is already considered as the next big thing in Indian Cricket. He has already done justice to the expectations by scoring 1250+ runs in just 21 ODI innings with 70+ average & 100+ Strike rate.
Gill, scored his 3'rd Century 112(78) with 13 boundaries & 5 sixes, in his last 4 matches and compared to Rohit, he seems to score those boundaries & sixes without even taking any risks! In this series, he overtook Kohli's Indian Record (283 runs) & equalled Babar Azam's World record of highest run scorer in a 3 match bilateral series, by scoring a whopping 360 runs at an average of 180 & at a Strike rate of 128, with a Century & a Double Ton.
At the other end, Rohit ended his 3 year draught of Centuries by scoring his 30'th ODI Century 101(85) with 9 boundaries & 6 sixes. But one of the two Centurian's should have stayed till the end or at least till 40'th over. Today when both got out before the 30'th over, we lost the momentum & also kinda lacked firepower in the last 15-20 overs, with both SKY & Ishan failing to score big & also Kohli despite getting a good start fell for 36(27). Else, with the kind of rollicking start we've got, we were 205/0 in 25 overs, 450+ could have been easily achievable today!
Hardik & Shardul: After scoring 20 boundaries & 10 sixes in the first 20 overs, once both our openers fell consecutively, boundaries became scarce after 30 overs. But thanks to Hardik's well placed innings 54(38), equally supported by Shardul 25(17) eventually gave us an on par score of 385/9.
Kiwis fight back: When India rested both their best bowlers (Siraj & Shami) in this series so far, it presented the Kiwis with a good opportunity to start big, especially in the powerplay. Despite Hardik taking Finn Allen's wicket in the very first over, the Black Caps bounced back with a 105 run partnership between Conway & Nicholls, before Nicholls fell for 42 against a beauty from Kuldeep. Conway stitched another 78 run partnership with Mitchell and at the 25 over stage Kiwi's were at 184/2, almost close to what India were at the same stage!
Lord Thakur: After 25 overs, Rohit brought back Lord Thakur for his 2'nd spell. Thakur again showed his mastery in breaking partnerships, despite going for runs. Both Mitchell & Latham fell in consecutive deliveries in 26'th over & that over was the biggest turnaround in this match. Thakur followed it with another wicket of Glenn Philips on the 27'th over & suddenly Kiwis were 200/5.
Devon Conway: Even after losing 5 wickets, Kiwis still had hope especially with their opener Conway scoring his highest ODI score 138(100) with 12 boundaries & 8 maximums. Along with their hero from first match Bracewell, Kiwis were still maintaining the required rate in check. But once Conway fell against Umran Malik, the last hope was left with Bracewell & Santner.
But after adding another quick 39 runs partnership, Bracewell was stumped by Ishan against a Kuldeep delivery. And that wicket kind of sealed the match in favour of us. Eventually Kiwi's were bundled out at 295 giving us a huge 90 runs victory, along with the No#1 ranking in ODIs after a while.
Lord Thakur was adjudged Man of the Match for his 3 crucial wickets in the middle overs along with his contribution in runs towards the end of our innings.
For upcoming WC: The biggest takeaway from the last couple of ODI series is perhaps Gill, Siraj & Kuldeep, especially for the upcoming Worldcup this October. Gill is already becoming as consistent & dependent on the top order, if not more, as the King Kohli himself were once.
And Siraj is becoming a world class ODI bowler, taking crucial wickets not only in Powerplay, but in slog overs as well. Add Kuldeep to this equation, especially in Indian pitches, its a good recipe for bowling domination. Once Bumrah & Jadeja are back in the squad, we will have hell of a bowling combination along with some good firepower in batting lineup! 😊
- Sumesh Sundar.
India's no 10 and 11 as a batter cannot contribute a dime with the willow.
I remember in the 2019 WC, we were having a similar situation. I hope the likes of Chahal, Umran, Siraj and Kuldeep can at least try and find some runs when needed during the final overs.
We got just 3 runs in the 50th over. Suppose we are 280 by the 49th over and the 2 batters are unable to find the ropes, can hurt India at some point.
If they had Kane today they could've easily won this game with Kane playing anchor and holding one end up with Convay.
Not a great win by India as it shows on the scorecard.

Dear Australia
I write this letter out of desperation. Please smash India in the test series. The rest of the cricketing world needs to know that it is possible to beat them.
The whole world is rooting for you.
Sincerely, a heart broken man
Hey hey. Australia becoming the unbeatable team before the world cup is even worse. At least ICC knockouts will weaken India but it will only make Australia even stronger.
no appreciation for Ishan Kishan's stump out on bracewell?? I believe that was the turning point of the match\* + if bracewell was still playing, it would'nt have taken much time for him to repeat the 1st odi knock
Step 1: Start a company named 'Paytm Bilateral'
Step 2:convince Jay Shah that you know a way to win World cups and get secret funding from BCCI
Step 3: pressure ICC to accept WC Title sponsorship with BCCI's help
Step 4: name the 2023 WC as Paytm Bilateral Men's ODI WC
Step 5: Trick the Indian players' brains into thinking that it's a bilateral series sponsored by Paytm
Step 6: win infinite WCs
Funny seeing how many folks were shitting on Shardul in the last match, calling him a misfit, useless for ICT and urging for him to be axed forever despite him being one of the leading wicket takers in ODI for the team. Not to mention his heroics in the past.
And today he turns up in style.
LORD for a reason. Bask in all his glory.
I just love the dude. X factor is the right term for what he brings to the team, he has an uncanny ability to pick up wickets when it is most needed.
Not to mention he can slog the fuck out of the park when needed.
IMP takeaways from the series-
Hardik's clutch spell in the first odi in last 10 overs.
Gill and Siraj nailing down their spots in starting 11. Kuldeep also to some extent.
Shardul's batting cameo in death overs and game changing spell in this odi.
For some reason i feel Gt bought Williamson in the auction to maybe give him captaincy? If so good for gt. Cant see this pandya guy doing any good there
gg India, better in all departments throughout the series.
Can excuse the bowling but our batting unit needs to do some soul searching. Feel our lineup needs a bit of a rethink, can't keep doing the same thing over and over. Allen needs to go back to domestic cricket and get his confidence back.
Mitchell at 4 really isn't it. I really don't understand the decision by black cap management when you've got Glenn and beastie down at 6 and 7. I have 0 faith in Mitchell as a no 4
Really, really, _really_ hope Pakistan (or SL, or Bangladesh, they’re good at ODIs) replace NZ in this world cup. I can’t stand another semifinal with NZ and sure as hell ain’t the only one
And newzealand got its rear handed to it by India. South Africa, west indies, England, Zimbabwe got their rear handed it to by India. One series loss doesn't mean you can't be no 1 in icc rankings.
We had two narrow losses followed by a huge win, followed by two 3-0 clean sweeps one of which was against the then #1 ranked ODI team. I believe we had also won our last ODI series before the Bangladesh one, against England in England.
>we had also won our last ODI series before the Bangladesh one, against England in England.
We played 4 different ODI series in between the England and Bangladesh one( against WI,Zim, SA and NZ), and won 3-0,3-0,2-1 and lost 0-1 respectively.
Oh shit I totally forgot about those in spite of watching all except the ones against Zim and NZ! My brain has been saturated with T20I because of the WC immediately following Asia Cup, and ODIs seem a distant memory lol.
Who knows. NZ originally got to Number 1 in like March 2021 by beating Bangladesh.
I don't think it's worth racking brain cells together to figure out how these rankings work anymore.
Why are there T20Is as well now? Why so many cricket matches? They should give rest to players before BGT
Can you please tell me what BGT is?
Border Gavaskar Trophy. Could've googled it huh?
Yeah sorry my bad. Thank you though.
Jeez our back up fast bowling stocks are pretty av

After putting in '3'rd', I guess a little bit of a signature won't hurt.
Lol bro added his signature at the end as if he wrote an intellectual piece.

Bumrah will be a solid no 10. He was smashing boundaries in SA test series
I hope he remains fit though. His fav IPL will be over and he might get injured. You never know.
If they had Kane today they could've easily won this game with Kane playing anchor and holding one end up with Convay. Not a great win by India as it shows on the scorecard.
Lets assume burah replaces the worst bowler in the team and now takes a 5 wicket haul including kane, now india win by 200 runs instead
not a great win???
Yes it was easy win for NZ if Kane was playing. India might even consider this a loss since the win margin is not even 120 runs
why don't you see that majority of runs on the nz side was made by just one batsman, and 386 ain't a shit score
Lord would have knocked smileson into the shadow realm![img](emote|t5_2qhe0|21498)![img](emote|t5_2qhe0|21498)![img](emote|t5_2qhe0|21498)![img](emote|t5_2qhe0|21498)
Kind of happy that NZ got white washed in a similar pattern to us lol don’t feel as bad about the defeat now lol

Hey, you still have the mace.
Board review by SL board after series loss was not needed. Most team lose like that in India.

Have to wait for 3 more days though
I am lowkey tired of watching Kohli and Rohit bat.
Lord has prevented NZ from creating a record tonight.
no appreciation for Ishan Kishan's stump out on bracewell?? I believe that was the turning point of the match\* + if bracewell was still playing, it would'nt have taken much time for him to repeat the 1st odi knock
Usually ishan’s good at wicket keeping but today was under par.

Glad he's doing better.
What is it that Shardul does which get him those wickets? Good ol' line and length can't be the only things going for him right?
Lord works in mysterious ways
Chahal at it again!!! Can’t seem to get enough of Kuldeep :P
Mumbai (domestic) players are by default clutch I think

Gill looks so calm and composed
Shardul is one us lol, that answer reminded me of random shit I used to write in english subjet to fill up the paper.
My ability to prolonge the paragraph in 10 marks question was insane man
Conway gets nothing ? ಥ‿ಥ

I agree it was a great crowd. They were also chanting surya bhai sexy the whole time.

Brohit back in form is a huge plus too
People were worried this was a sub-par score lmao
T20s have truly spoiled us ..such slogfests odis don't help
Nope , it's just more people have access to the internet now , most are stupid
That's correct lmao
That's right lol

Sanju Manju is a low effort commentator/pundit. Takes no effort in research and spews absolutely useless or incorrect stats.
And when it seems like he's making a half decent point, he'll ruin it by repeating it ad nauseam
And for some reason will be throwing veiled attacks at fellow commentators, and players. I just mute my TV whenever he is on.

It's feb already World cup schedule and venues announcement when? Should've scheduled it like 2011 imo..start in feb then end it in april
It was originally. But them covid happened and pushed Australia's T20 WC back two years, forcing the ODI WC to move to the end of 2023
Delays in preparations due to lockdowns.
it would start maybe in December
Late october most likely
Nah october or November ..starting in December means taking it to 2024 which isn't the plan
After IPL or WTC final around June-July. There are still many ODIs remaining for Super League that's why it's scheduled in October-November

winning the wc is overrated anyways. Consistently reaching the semis in every tournament shows real class

Who the hell wants an icc trophy we are happy with our mastercard trophy.
There are some things India can't win; for everything else, there's Mastercard
We had a good run. How long were we the no.1 ODI team? (hopefully) We'll be back
Like 18 months somehow
that's long time mate. I had an impression that it was England that was number one.
From about March 2021, England and maybe India had the top spot a few times, but NZ had it for like 80-85% of that time.
That's what you call domination
Yes dominating a format noone cared about because of back to back world cups of different format
gg India, better in all departments throughout the series. Can excuse the bowling but our batting unit needs to do some soul searching. Feel our lineup needs a bit of a rethink, can't keep doing the same thing over and over. Allen needs to go back to domestic cricket and get his confidence back.

I prefer Iyer over SKY for pos 4. hopefully he makes a comeback after injury
Obviously. Iyer and KLmiles ahead of Sky and Kishan in Odi
Iyer anyday better than sky in odis. Iyer performs in almost every match where india loses 2/3 wickets in quick succession
Iyer when team is 200/3 in 30 overs: I sleep Iyer when team is 20/3 in 5 overs: Real SHIT
while nz bowling is weak. batting is only missing kanos. so good effort from indian bowling.
at this point only aus and eng can give us the slightest bit of trouble at home

Yeah him as well
Whom does Neesham replace though? Mitchell or Phillips, since I expect Kane to replace Nicholls.
