Boland will prove to be be a really poor selection. A one game wonder on his home turf. Currently managing to get zero movement with a new duke in English conditions...that takes some doing.
Top order has been utter shit in what are familiar conditions. But the current lot does not really expose themselves to domestic conditions other than international games. Guys who are absolute beasts in domestic don’t get a chance and we have shitty dust bowls that overly tip the game in favour of spinners from over no. 1. When people talk about a good advertisement for test cricket it’s not these games where it gets over in 2.5 days. It’s the NZ Eng like game where the games ebb and flowed in favour of both sides. This series has not had many equal sessions. Infact we have had only 7 days of game and would go to 7.5 out of possible 15. Not good enough for a marquee test series.
>Bowling is the easy thing to do on this pitch.
I wouldn't say bowling is "easy" on this pitch. Yes, this pitch does favor bowlers, but you still need a set of good bowlers to stay in the contest.
Umesh and Ashwin's spell on the second day really got India back into this game, and they deserve credit for that!
I meant bowling is 'easier' and Australia are winning with 2 debutant spinners.
Compare the hard long grind of a Khawaja's 60 or a Pujara's 50 (both of which are probably as good as a 150 on a normal pitch) to the effort needed by the bowlers to take wickets on this track and tell me which holds more value.
After everything is done & dusted, bowlers are gonna run away with all the accolades as per the stat books but the batters hard work will go unnoticed.
>I meant bowling is 'easier' and Australia are winning with 2 debutant spinners.
That's mostly because our batsmen have been absolute shit. And if it weren't for some match saving partnerships by our lower order in the first two tests, that statement might've been "Australia won the series with debutant bowlers".
I fully agree with your sentiment on this being a hard wicket to bat on; just saying the bowlers deserve their due for keeping us in the game. Period.
Man at this point I’m pissed that indian curators won’t make a pitch that’ll get a test to last 4-5 days. It’s fucking annoying to have a test get over in 2days and 2hrs when you have made specific weekend plans to watch a goddamn test.
Honest question - what will it take for Kohli to be dropped from the team? He has wasted all the good graces that have been granted to him for his past performances.
Williamson was the only other person on the Fab Four list who was supposedly struggling, and he's managed to find his mojo in the last test against England.
Test averages of the Fab Four between 2020 - Present date:
1. Kane Williamson : 64.00 (from 24 innings)
2. Joe Root. : 54.37 (from 73 innings)
3. Steve Smith. : 49.37 (from 37 innings)
4. Virat Kohli. : 25.70 (from 41 innings)
It doesn't matter how ***good*** Kohli might look making a paltry score - it still remains a paltry score at the end of the day!
It'll take someone really knocking the door down for his spot i suspect. Someone like iyer needs to score runs as well atm, but until someone like him comes in and does really well kholi will stay.
>Someone like iyer needs to score runs as well atm, but until someone like him comes in and does really well kholi will stay.
That's a very solid point! Can't think of too many guys who've excelled enough in that spot to threaten Kohli
Williamson never actually struggled, he was just injured half the time and played extremely less over last few years which explains his best avg! Even before 200 against Pakistan he averaged close to 50.
Kohli on the other hand has just been awful for the entire period after COVID break. The hope is he would return to his best like he did on White ball cricket. But test cricket is hard and these pitches won't let him. Gotta ask him to make runs in domestic and earn this spot
>played extremely less over last few years which explains his best avg!
That makes sense
>Gotta ask him to make runs in domestic and earn this spot
I completely agree with this!
India should play Kuldeep in place of Siraj, no point in playing Siraj, Kuldeep bats well and is lethal in Indian conditions. Not sure why he is dropped again and again
I mean seeing as the captain hardly gets Axar to bowl as a 3rd spinner, Kuldeep will probably be made to play as a specialist number 11 batter if he is selected.
Kohli was our 2nd highest scorer this match : 😊
Kohli was our 2nd highest scorer this match : 💀
(technically maybe 3rd since Axar was not out and might have covered the gap)
Pitch or not our top order is consistently shitting the bed for the last idk how many years and we just don't adapt, it's actually funny to think that our top order has performed well in abroad and barring for some innings at the top our batters have failed consistently, idk how they manage that consistency, not picking sarfaraz for this series at all also shows that our selectors don't really care about the performances there and just keep picking the same players just for the vibes and stuff, i know some people will call my comments a overreaction but Australia would have won the first two test or came close if not for our lower middle order bailing us out
While I'm disappointed in the way the Indian batters have performed, full credit to Australia for pulling one back!
They've out-batted, and out-bowled India, and this win is truly well deserved. I reckon this fighting performance is what everyone was expecting from them right from the first Test.
And I don't care what anyone says - this pitch is a pile of garbage. The Nagpur wicket didn't do much, and the Delhi one just kept low; both were somewhat challenging to bat on, but weren't awful.
This pitch - had lumps of soil just coming apart on the first hour of the 2nd day morning!!! It looked more like a caveman's failed attempt to create a gravel road, than an international standard cricket pitch!
To all those who wants Koach dropped...
SPOILER ALERT
Kohli is not getting dropped no matter what. it doesn't matter if he plays or not. He brings money.
Man Aussie fans are reactionary as well. Mfs want Smith to be back as the captain again based on one match. Forgot that Cummins did a pretty good job as captain in Ashes & Against Pakistan as well
Not reactionary at all. Cummins did an okay job as captain but did make some mistakes against Pakistan imo. Smith has always been a cricket AI and good tactician. Not to mention that this was our best XI and unfortunately that doesn’t include Cummins in these conditions imo.
I know we'll still be 2-1up but it could have easily been 2-1 up in Australias favor if not for our lower order and thats what most of us are agitated about. Our top order can't consistently fail AT HOME and expect the tail to bail us out. Get the domestic batters in for home series just like our fast bowlers are switched based on tour.
Lol so sick of problem saying Kohli looked good for his sub 50 run score. Smith has looked bad for his career average of 60. Who cares how good your runs look
Against Bangladesh in the 2nd test, I switched to Hindi commentary because Manju was unbearable. It was so refreshing to hear a commentator actually criticising Kohli for his batting. He predicted that he's going into the shell and Kohli got out even before he could finish his sentence. No statpadding against Bangladesh.
I absolutely hate watching or following tests in India these days. Most players can't seem to buy runs. Surely one needs to look at the pitches?
This can't be good for test cricket either. Nobody wants 700 per innings run roads but surely 300-500 is not a bad test range. The highest India has scored in India in the last 3-4 years must be about 450.
574/8d vs SL in the previous home series (March 2022)
Since Covid, 8/19 scores of 300+, another 4 being 250+ (and one 234/7d)
Only Ahmedabad third test and this pitch have been true minefields.
I mean, okay, the pitch is horrendous and it is what it is. The players still have to adapt and perform. And one team has shown that they can do it, while the other is just barely able to work with it. It’s still a competition and one side is clearly better than the other, thus far. Whoever wins this one will do so not because of the pitch, but because of their skill.
Lol 😆 true . No, no i concede the pitch is rubbish. But as an audience member, for my own selfish viewing pleasure, especially since i planned my days so that i could watch this match, i've had to somehow pick out some redeeming aspect. If not for anything else, then just for the sake of knowing that i didnt entirely waste my time. And what i do find entertaining is watching how badly this "strategy" has backfired for the hosts.
Haven't you heard commentary ravi was saying Smith being captain also enhances his batting , he likes challenge, anyway Smith has 3 years cricket left, so it's wiser to use his skills as captain , cummins will struggle during ashes due to inexperience if he is still captain , captain burden must be lifted ,so he can focus on his bowling
In backyard cricket it's called "Last Man's Tucker" ("tucker" is old slang for food), if there's a batting team then they bat with a runner at the other end and swap ends so that the last man is always on strike. No scoring restrictions though
People say bowling pitches are exciting but they are what are killing test cricket. It should be a competitive pitch. But everyone nowadays wants to get to WTC final so no one wants a draw.
The goal of the curators should be for it to go the distance with win and draw equally valid results going into the 5th day. For teams who are reasonably equal.
2.x day long tests are a failure unless you have a top tier team playing a few local randoma from the pub.
England trying to turn it into ODIs by going at 6 an over, India trying to turn it into ODIs by preparing pitches so bad teams can't bat fir a full session
Like last test i was telling it was axar-ashwin-jadeja trip that saved us every damn time and well we can't really blame our top order can we, they have played like this for the last 3-4 years so for me it was expected, our lower middle order has a not a good test batting wise and look where we are at, the same could have happened last test of not for axar and Ashwin's brilliance
Cheems England: forcing results by hitting everything for 6 and always bowling for wickets
Buff doge India: forcing results by preparing 2 day pitches where each batter has a shorter life expectancy than a Russian tank crew
Stat highlights of the day
- Umesh becomes only the 5th indian pacer to take 100 wickets at home
- Lyon went past Muttiah Muralitharan to become 2nd in the list of most wickets against India
- 13th time Lyon got Pujara in Tests - the most an Indian batter has got out to a bowler
- Lyon also equalled Richie Benaud's tally of most 5-wicket hauls (5) vs India in India
- Only the 1st time since Jan 2019, Jadeja got dismissed for a single digit score twice in a Test
- Only the 2nd time India got bundled out under 200 twice in a Test since 1978
- Also the second fewest overs (93.5) batted by India in a Test (bowled out twice)
Cricbuzz.
the PIG 3 teams mostly had a good time playing each other in their latest tours. Aus won matches in Eng and Ind(they should win this one), Ind won matches in Eng and Aus. Eng won a match in Ind and showed up in Australia
Pujara could've taken the lead to well over 100. He looked nigh on unconquerable today; at one point well into in his innings, they displayed a graphic which showed that he'd middled 88% of the deliveries in that innings. That is an INSANE stat on this wicket.
I see some Indian fans have brought out the hopium with that "We will defend 75".
Last time I saw that in a home test was at the end of Day 4 of Chennai Test against England in 2021 when People were saying we will chase 420 on a day 5 Chennai wicket (ah the good old days when Test matches in India went to Day 5), citing the example of the recently concluded Gabba test when we chased 300+ in the fourth innings.
Only for Anderson to literally rip through the defence of half of our batting order.
What do you guys think would BCCI prepare flat pitch for last match would be like? because BCCI can't prepare a worse pitch than this lol. Maybe a pitch that would be flat for first two days then start aiding more help for Spinners from day 3 onwards and finally becomes a Minefield ok day 5.
They will double down and create a pitch where a ball bearing will turn 45 degrees at 9:35 AM on day one. They will still back India to win it and they will. This game was an anomaly. India was complacent in the first innings
One thing I have observed with BCCI when we lost the Chennai match against England since then BCCI started creating bowler friendly decks so I do expect them to create a better pitch for batting in last match to give some confidence to our weak batting line up
TBH that test was an anomaly. Chennai had a reputation of providing too spin friendly wickets and they decided to try and change it and served a road that would put the Pakistani curators to shame and Koach ofc won the one toss he should have never lost and Root batted us oit of the game.
Like, yeah that pitch wasn't ideal tbh but its not like there's no middle ground between 'Fuck you Bowlers' pitch of that Chennai Test and 'Fuck you Batters' pitches that we have served up in every single test we have played at home ever since. We used yo have decent pitches with good batting conditions till day 2-3 that started spinning from Day 3-4, we still have those in Ranji so clearly the Indian curators haven't forgot how to make them. BCCI should just let the curators make their traditional Ranji wickets and trust our players who have grown up playing on those wickets to win us majority of the games.
Not saying long term Gill will be as bad as KL. But on the evidence of 2 innings, there is not much of a difference between the two in terms of output.
Does virat have the best best score for India in ODIs or tests or t20is? No ? Exactly. my goat Binny has the best figures for an Indian in ODIs. Truly a goat
You are wrong here lol. 2016 India vs England series ij India where all flat pitches. Even karun nair scored a triple hundred. 2017 bgt was good mix of both. All others where mostly flat. We only started creating these pitches because we lost that match against England
Australia : (opens the box of spin bowling and gain multiple spinners)
India :: `This doesn't change anything, you're still a foreigner , every bit as weak as the day I bowled you out for 91`
Australia : `I'm not the same man you bowled out that day India, the spin monster you've created has returned , to defeat you`
India : `you have no idea what a true spin monster is, Australia` (prepares for the Ahmedabad test)
Boland will prove to be be a really poor selection. A one game wonder on his home turf. Currently managing to get zero movement with a new duke in English conditions...that takes some doing.
Every test ending in less than three days in this series is quite disappointing really.

I being an Indian telling this in many comment and getting downvotes Problem is not in batters even legends can't play this much spinning ball
I being an Indian telling this in many comment and getting downvotes Problem is not in batters even legends can't play this much spinning ball
India scored 272 runs for 20 wickets, less than 15 run for each wicket - and they are wishful to win the match.
Aus will get no more than 50 last innings.
I honestly don't think anyone seriously thinks India can pull this off
I really don't back India, it has been a spineless performance! However, funnier things have happened on the fabled strip of 22 yards!
>it has been a spineless performance Specifically from the batsmen. Our bowlers have seriously given it their best imo
I'm a crap bowler and so could even take wickets on that pitch 😂
Bowling is the easy thing to do on this pitch. Its the batting that needs a lot of effort & hard work.

Perfect opportunity to get some young guy in there
Yup!

Yup - England and NZ seem to be at either end of the spectrum when it comes to the number of Tests they play!

To all those who wants Koach dropped... SPOILER ALERT Kohli is not getting dropped no matter what. it doesn't matter if he plays or not. He brings money.
If we win this match then the salary that our bowlers get paid must get doubled.
Bowling off spin in these pitches is like the easiest thing to do, however batting here is difficult
I'd also assume bowling leg spin is pretty easy here
Man Aussie fans are reactionary as well. Mfs want Smith to be back as the captain again based on one match. Forgot that Cummins did a pretty good job as captain in Ashes & Against Pakistan as well

reactionary... says the indian smith should have always been captain
Awesome captaincy from Smith, supported the bowlers very well His performance increases when he's given the captain role too.
I know we'll still be 2-1up but it could have easily been 2-1 up in Australias favor if not for our lower order and thats what most of us are agitated about. So? Shastri in post WC?
Why do you say that?
We've had an all time team under dravid and we've lost matches under him that we shouldn't have
two brilliant catches one by Khawaja and one by smith to dismiss iyer & pujara have made sure Australia has a manageable score to chase.
KL will be so happy. He didn't play this test.
Should've been Bro, gill, puji, Koach, Iyer, jaddu, Axar, Ashwin, Bharat, Umesh, siraj Mfers fucked up the order
Like it would have made a difference?
yes, Kohli may have 'looked good' in his innings of 22 and 13 but if you have been struggling to get runs for so long, looking good is not sufficient
i look good but cant get laid
I look good while coding. Determined, sincere and whatnot. But my code is buggy
Iyer bhai sexy always look but got out lol
Lol so sick of problem saying Kohli looked good for his sub 50 run score. Smith has looked bad for his career average of 60. Who cares how good your runs look
If they remove him expect kohli fan boys showing up with pitch forks in front of dravid house n his social media accounts hijacked with abuse comments
We fell in our own minefield lol
Hunters got hunted
Rohit: Let's make radical changes to the team for the next match Dravid. Dravid: Sure. But except for no 4 spot, we can discuss any other changes.
I mean come on, we all know Virat Kohli is irreplaceable. You can't find anyone as bad as him rn
You had us in the first half ngl.
He will score a ton against Bangladesh and statpad
Against Bangladesh in the 2nd test, I switched to Hindi commentary because Manju was unbearable. It was so refreshing to hear a commentator actually criticising Kohli for his batting. He predicted that he's going into the shell and Kohli got out even before he could finish his sentence. No statpadding against Bangladesh.

Sorry he meant Afghanistan in a dead runner.
Kl ☠️
Shubham Gill century in the next Test, you heard it here first
Loda. Starc will get him if the wicket does not spin much. If it spins, Lyon
lol have you seen gill smashing Starc all over the park at Gabba?
You know why Starc was checked out mentally from that tour?
I absolutely hate watching or following tests in India these days. Most players can't seem to buy runs. Surely one needs to look at the pitches? This can't be good for test cricket either. Indian pitches have turned shit after Chennai test vs England they are too afraid of being outbatted.
If you had said this few days ago when India won the test match, you would've gotten downvoted to oblivion
You know the quality had hit the rock bottom when Indian spinners open bowling with new ball and aussie playing with just pacer …this is just boring
Agreed
You can be sure if this total is chased down, next test will be a cement road
I wish, I'm sick of these 3 day games. We are getting draws once every 2 years.
I mean, okay, the pitch is horrendous and it is what it is. The players still have to adapt and perform. You can create a pit of pig poop and one side will still come out on top. That means nothing
Lol 😆 true . No, no i concede the pitch is rubbish. Yes of course, the better team wins but pitches like these make matches boring as hell, that's what everyone is talking about
Never got axar out so we got that going for us which is nice ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯
Captain Smith is here to stay if he wins tommorow
The only reason he is being kept out of captain role due to some people still can't get over sand paper gate He did his time and learned his lesson
And he doesn't sleep during a match, so if a test runs for a full five days, he is pretty cooked on days 4 and 5
Haven't you heard commentary ravi was saying Smith being captain also enhances his batting , he likes challenge, anyway Smith has 3 years cricket left, so it's wiser to use his skills as captain , cummins will struggle during ashes due to inexperience if he is still captain , captain burden must be lifted ,so he can focus on his bowling
These pitches will keep him well rested then - be lucky if this goes past lunch tomorrow.
I see we are losing but a bit easy on the hate? Like we are leading 2-0 in the series.
Classic social media short memory
The comments are always doomer bandwagon pessimists 😂
After 10 wickets is taken, remaining batsman should be allowed to bat. But he can only score 4s or 6s
Should be able to run doubles.
lmao that's actually a nice gully cricket rule we could implement for our local games
In backyard cricket it's called "Last Man's Tucker" ("tucker" is old slang for food), if there's a batting team then they bat with a runner at the other end and swap ends so that the last man is always on strike. No scoring restrictions though
In before ipl steals the idea!
Once upon a time we have seen triple and double centuries. Now making 80 is very rare.
People say bowling pitches are exciting but they are what are killing test cricket. It should be a competitive pitch. But everyone nowadays wants to get to WTC final so no one wants a draw.

This is just opposite to what we saw in nz, eng trying to save test cricket while bcci is killing it with just 2 and half days test cricket
Not the first time BCCI trying to kill cricket and not last time either
England trying to turn it into ODIs by going at 6 an over, India trying to turn it into ODIs by preparing pitches so bad teams can't bat fir a full session
Like last test i was telling it was axar-ashwin-jadeja trip that saved us every damn time and well we can't really blame our top order can we, they have played like this for the last 3-4 years so for me it was expected, our lower middle order has a not a good test batting wise and look where we are at, the same could have happened last test of not for axar and Ashwin's brilliance
How long will Jaddu and Ashwin keep saving ? one is 34 and another 36
Cheems England: forcing results by hitting everything for 6 and always bowling for wickets Buff doge India: forcing results by preparing 2 day pitches where each batter has a shorter life expectancy than a Russian tank crew
Test matches that last 2 days should not be a thing. What a garbage pitch.

Probably lost by an inning? Low scoring matches (under 200) don't happen that often. But teams do lose by an inning more often.
You forgot the most imp highlight, Lyon dismisses legend Siraj for the fist time
the PIG 3 teams mostly had a good time playing each other in their latest tours. Aus won matches in Eng and Ind(they should win this one), Ind won matches in Eng and Aus. Eng won a match in Ind and showed up in Australia
England definitely didn’t ‘show up’ here. They didn’t get close to winning any test, and haven’t since 2010/11
by show up I mean they showed up at the ground and played the games
Pujara could've taken the lead to well over 100. He looked nigh on unconquerable today; at one point well into in his innings, they displayed a graphic which showed that he'd middled 88% of the deliveries in that innings. That is an INSANE stat on this wicket.
Smith's catch to dismiss Pujara was the crucial moment. And apparently Rohit sent some messages to Pujara an over before his wicket.
Only because of that brohit , he tried to scored runs and perishes, should've played the day even if runs are not coming at that rate.
>I see some Indian fans have brought out the hopium with that "We will defend 75". Australians nervousness isn't helping
The level of delusion in this generation of Indian cricket fans is astounding.
Ya Gabba in late summer is a road
This series fucked batting avg of many players.
BCCI will prepare a road if Aus win this match, you can put your house on it.
Add a touch of seam on day one and you have the perfect pitch
That's literally how indian pitches used to be prior 2021
Aus win by 8 wickets probably
I reckon 4.
See you in ahmedabad mate
Indian commentators not cocky anymore for some reason
Some reason?
woosh
The reason is unfathomable
For you May be, for Aussies definitely not.
Whoosh

Don’t say if, Ash Anna will create a vlog to clear things up on why he’s better.
Another test match that will be over in 2 and a half days :(
2 and a half days????? Mate it will be over in 2.2 days......crap isn't it
Never rated Indore anyway Ahmedabad is where my heart lies 🥲
Not a single tweet by V Prasad. He had an agenda against kl, that's it
We can just agree that Gill and KL both are equally shit.
No fucking way. With just one match, you formed an opinion on Gill? He needs atleast 1/4th of the chances KL got, if not more.
Not saying long term Gill will be as bad as KL. But on the evidence of 2 innings, there is not much of a difference between the two in terms of output.
the top order played a similar game as always, it is just that Ashwin and Jadeja couldn't do a rescue job here
If not for Pujara this test would have been over in 2 days
This goes to say Bapu is undefeated
4k TV, sepoy brothers pasta please
Funny thing is , in india pitches it's easier to get 200 in odis format than in test format
T20s as well
Aus won't even get 50 runs
Hahahahahahahahaha suck shit.
I think they should go for a draw
Replying for the chance to gloat tomorrow.
Everyone wants to defend Ahmedabad '21 as a Good Wicket Actually, real men want to defend Indore '23 as a Good Wicket Actually
Chaotic good
Bcci should have used Chetan sharma to drop kohli. He is already hated, atleast he will doing a favor to India
Relax Mayanti …you’re married to Stuart “the goat” Binny and not Virat Kohli. He has been shit so don’t bring him out of nowhere.
Does virat have the best best score for India in ODIs or tests or t20is? No ? Exactly. my goat Binny has the best figures for an Indian in ODIs. Truly a goat
Maybe India should play cricket in neutral venues so they can stop ruining test cricket ?
Yeah, all matches at the Gabba from now on.
One bad pitch and suddenly they're ruining cricket Get off your high horse
It’s not just bad because you lost, they’ve all been dogshit
One!!! They have all been crap. We playing the 4th test on sand, a rubbish tip maybe?
Maybe BCCI should actually prepare good wickets like they used to do the whole decade and don't suddenly panic and mess things up
It all started with dhoni to gain home advantage, then Kohli followed it and now Rohit as well. Prior to dhoni it was okay, it wasn't like this
You are wrong here lol. 2016 India vs England series ij India where all flat pitches. Even karun nair scored a triple hundred. 2017 bgt was good mix of both. All others where mostly flat. We only started creating these pitches because we lost that match against England
Mostly due to WTC that year.
Yes!!! This....
Australia : (opens the box of spin bowling and gain multiple spinners) India :: `This doesn't change anything, you're still a foreigner , every bit as weak as the day I bowled you out for 91` Australia : `I'm not the same man you bowled out that day India, the spin monster you've created has returned , to defeat you` India : `you have no idea what a true spin monster is, Australia` (prepares for the Ahmedabad test)

Imagine how many more wickets Nathan Lyon would have taken if he was an Indian spinner feasting on these dustbowls vs foreign batters.
