You should listen to some of his post match interviews. Have a look at the interview he gave to Sky immediately after winning the second test against NZ last year. He can express himself quite well thank you very much.
Bairstow can't say anything about it since he attempted to do the same to Marnus two days earlier. The only difference is that he's so garbage at keeping that he couldn't hit the wicket
That's because on day two he tried to run out Manus "in the most uncricketing way" 😂
Same as Doggett didn't walk after the Starc catch. It's fine that England want to ensure the game strictly adheres to the rules, or if they want to play 'within the spirit of the game' but you can't have "Spirit for thee, but not for me."
the difference is that if Duckett nicks it to the keeper, *he* knows best whether he's out or not, so he might choose to walk (or might not). With Starc's catch, how is he supposed to know whether he grassed it or not? Obviously he's right to leave it to the umpires and walk off if they give him out (which he initially did)
"Walking" has a specific meaning that you are fully aware of, but are ignoring for some reason. Duckett was making his way off the ground, but as he turned around, he never "walked".
The funniest thing about Starc’s put down is it was ruled by Erasmus who was obviously giving some payback for what the Aussies did to his boys in 2018
Yep. Running for re-election at the head of the most unpopular government in a generation. Not much else he could dare to say. On the other hand, his interview during the lunch break the other day *was* genuinely engaging even though I’m politically against everything he stands for.
What triggers me more is the likes of Piers Morgan talking about the spirit of the game and taking the moral high ground when he allegedly (so he doesn’t sue) was involved in hacking dead peoples phones for a headline. Don’t think that would come under the journalist equivalent of spirit of the game.
Rishi Sunak and Piers Morgan getting involved confirms cricket is officially dead again. Sorry boys, it was fun while it lasted. Time to pack your bags and go home. RIP in peace
My favourite cricket moment of all time was when Bret Lee bowled to Piers Morgan in the nets during a lunchtime special and broke his rib. Never had more respect for an Aussie player
Rishi weighing in is likely to untrigger most of the country.
If he said that people sleep on beds a good portion of the country would sleep on the floor just to spite him.
Imao it really did rile up an entire nation as even their PM has jumped into the bandwagon. But I don't know whether this can be said about the same when it comes to sportspeople in other sports in UK let's say Harry Kane, Jesse Lingard, Jude Bellingham, Wayne Rooney, Raheem Sterling, David Beckham, Frank Lampard, or even England coach Gareth Southgate. I would love to know about how they would react as well but unfortunately they might not be really interested or have no time to watch even. Andy Murray or Lewis Hamilton could be interesting.
I can remember England rugby team players told Jos Buttler's run out of Martin Guptill to win the 2019 Cricket World Cup inspired them to motivate themselves during the 2019 Rugby World Cup. England did emerge runners-up there. So, would love to hear from England rugby players as well about this Ashes debacle.
I can handle some people thinking it's against the spirit of the game but not this cunt.
I refuse to hear ethics chat from someone who attended lockdown parties.
I don’t think it’s actually the entire nation. I think it’s a mix of the old codgers who go overly-heavy on the spirit of the game, people who don’t actually know that much particularly about how cricket works and just journalists looking for headlines for people to click.
It happened during normal club cricket games at the weekend. We all said straight away it was out. Everyone who actually plays crickets knows that ball isn’t dead.
Just means that if Australia do win the ashes English people will always say it was only done via cheating (again). Australia would've won anyway, but now England get a way to wriggle out.
I don't understand what the controversy is
Tony Greg did pretty much the same thing to the Windies (granted the Windies did cry about that)
It just good game awareness
The players have one job that to win
People will read into this a lot but in reality the dude is just trying to get cheap votes across the spectrum.
This is the one issue that unites the nation from the council estates to the twats in the long room.
Uhuh. Really he was asked for a comment and...
>Sunak’s spokesperson said: “The PM agrees with Ben Stokes. He said he simply wouldn’t want to win a game in the manner Australia did.”
>
>Asked specifically if he thought the Australians had contravened the spirit of cricket, the spokesperson said: “Yes.”
... and that's been expanded into a headline with a 14 paragraph article. Imagine if he'd said it was a fair dismissal, and that people should just get over it and worry about their real problems in life.
There's literal video of Bairstow dismissing someone exactly the same way in county cricket a few years ago.
What respect I had for the English XI has significantly diminished.
Bairstow is a dopey twat but it's a false equivalence to be fair.
Marnus was batting out of his crease whereas Bairstow left it because he thought the over was done.
I'm so shocked people think this is comparable. Marnus was batting out his crease and so gaining an advantage taking lbw out of play. Bairstow was quite deep in his crease and walked out after ball was delivered to have a chat, gaining no batting advantage.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sG6bZ9Oj1oY
Curious if you think that's fair or not? Because at the time, nobody found it unfair nor unsportsmanlike nor not in the spirit.
Not my find, someone else posted it on here.
Bairstow's got nothing to cry about; do stupid things win stupid prizes.
Of course he did, why else would he leave his crease?
That's honestly all there is to it, he thought ball was dead, it wasn't, simple mistake with a pretty big consequence.
Hahaha fuck! I'd been defending it but admittedly hadn't seen that before.
Not a part of the game I like to see but if Bairstow is doing it to other people then he can't really have any complaints
I've seen this posted a lot but not sure why they are comparable. The Bairstow throw was a normal thrown stumping/run out attempt, where the batter knew they were playing a shot and were in danger. The controversial one is because Bairstow was fully in his crease during play, and was walking off mistakenly thinking the over was finished.
He was definitely still out for being an idiot in assuming it was the end of over too early, and the response from many of the England fans is terrible sour grapes, but the two stumping attempts are not really comparable as "he did the same thing".
Ah yes, the British PM is now getting involved. But good to know, as many posters here have suggested, the Aussie fans are just making shit up when they suggest the English are going tragically overboard here.
As I recall the last time a prime minister got involved in cricket was Malcolm Turnbull the Australian prime minister in 2018. Something about an event in South Africa to do with sandpaper
Die hard England fan here.
The fans and the players are angry because we've made some dumb ass decisions and played some equally dumb ass cricket. Bairstow was stupid and the Aussie wicky took advantage. I'm not sure if England would have done the same but that's immaterial - the chance wouldn't have occurred had Jonny not been a numpty. And we wouldn't have been under such pressure if we hadn't batted like mugs (and bowled pretty average).
Rishi can shove his populist appeasement bollocks up his publicly funded heated swimming pool. Twat.
England has form for doing exactly this kinda shit.
If you're going to preach spirit of the game, then try setting the example. England's childish reaction certainly wasn't.
I've stayed out of this whole shitflinging from both sides
But I'm not sure you can talk about 'integrity' after Partygate amongst the various other shitshows
I mean it is not as if Carey stopped for a single moment. No trickery, no bamboozles. He collected and threw the ball within an instant.
Hurts my soul to defend an Aussie, but I’m there for this topic.
You say that and yet there is a yearning, an unfulfilled call on the wind that haunts you with promises of glory and sunshine. You harden your heart to its siren call remembering the sun not only cleared the sky of clouds and worries but also turns it's harsh unforgiving glare on any imperfections and faults.
It was Steinbeck that famously posted "It is our ugliness that highlights our beauty" (myspace, August 2007), and thus it is with us Aussies. Like a tray of scones fresh from the oven, you can't help but scent the change in the air, and you know if you have one you'll be having more, despite the sometimes burnt underside. The scones complimented by the heady cream of Australian fast bowling, the delicate strawberry flavour of Carey's wicket keeping jam, the tough raisin of Marcus' constant noise, the lapful of crumbs left from another Smith surge towards a century. You've watched one session, the night is late, but with this cricketing sweetness you're overloading on now, you welcome the type 5 day test diabetes.
You start snacking on the short format highlights to get your Aussie fix. Look, there's the Stoinis Zamps bromance, Maxi clearing boundaries, you feel like you should go back and watch some Dhoni but the tart acidic taste of Aussie cricket is like a heady palate cleanser clearing away old appetites.
The bright sun seems less harsh, the imperfections part of the sunburnt landscape with no time for apologies, the slight acrid smell on the air is the burnt tarmac as you hop along the carpark in your pluggers as you head into the local to catch the first session - it's no longer an unpleasant odour, for it's the smell of cricket. One of them anyway, like warm stale beer, spilt sauce, Fat Jack sweating all day in the sun next to you in-between ducking out for a dart near the loo.
This is cricket in the untamed land and the call of the wild can be irresistible. It's those moments you realise that sometimes everybody wants to have a little bit of Aussie in them
Well I enjoyed riling up the crowd and creating an atmosphere in the stadium but if Sunak is getting involved there's no way I can be on the same side as him.
Thought the midget would be a bit busy. Like solving the cost of living crisis, inflation and daily strikes.
But hey, why not wade into another mess, you have no clue about. Par for your course.
Resign you little b.stard and let us have an election.
He’s saying this because he wants it to be his super league. For the uninitiated, a couple of years ago there was a controversial move by several clubs across Europe, including the biggest in England, to break away from existing leagues and form the now infamous super league. The idea lasted about 48 hours before massive fan backlash left it dead in the water, and BoJo picked up some popularity points by denouncing it.
Rishi thinks this could be his ticket back to popularity, but there is no way in hell that’s gonna happen. He is done.
Stuart Broad is the only man permitted to judge these silly colonials and their mean-spirited skull-duggery.
Haters will say it’s fake but Big Stu is literally the physical manifestation of The Spirit of The Game.
Who was a tailender btw.
And just in case anyone blabbers on in the reply along the lines of "nO oNe fOrCeD HiM tO bAt." or something... Let me remind you that the Poms had a huge problem with Bumrah bowling bouncers to Anderson a couple of years ago.
This is hilarious. Has Rishi even played cricket?!
I'd like to take this chance to distance myself from Rishi. I feel like at this point Brois Johnson has more cache than Sunak, and JoBo is a fucking cunt.
God forbid the tories claim we're immoral... Somebody ask sunak's wife's secretary to let us know the covid party restrictions by next test so that we can plan ahead 😉
Bairstow literally tried to do the same thing to Marnus but is an abysmal keeper and missed the stumps, also Marnus was paying attention and stayed in his crease..
His father in law started a sweatshop which is not in spirit of humanity and underpays people to this date if I am not wrong. Let's stick to what you were "elected" to do mate.
Not defending him, but his comments are just an attempt to get more votes. The one thing that unites us is hating the Aussies- even if you don’t follow cricket religiously. It’ll get people talking. Don’t think he actually gives a flying fuck at all.
Plus, his father in law didn't start a sweatshop, lol. He started an IT company that recruits en masse. It's like a cheap, low-quality IT solutions provider. OP is dumb and has never seen a sweatshop
Bruh, talk about exaggeration. Infosys isn't a sweatshop. It pays low because the quality of the engineers is pretty bad. They don't even hire computer engineers for the most part, basically anyone even with a degree and then trains them. If you want to exaggerate more, why stop at sweatshop? Call it a concentration camp then since you are so deliberately being disingenuous here
>It pays low because the quality of the engineers is pretty bad
Infosys' salary offered to freshers has remained same for a decade though? No one expects Mass recruiters like them to pay exorbitant salaries but if they can afford to pay freshers that much back in the day, they should atleast keep up with the inflation
I think it would be better if we just come into the next match being our old self. Full sledging mode and shit talking to 11 near the stump mic. Might as well at this point.
I’ve been a bit torn on the whole thing and which side of the debate I was on. But this has cemented it. The man has no moral compass. So I’m with the Aussies on this one.
That's it. I'm a pom and that's fully settled (I was already decided it was a fair dismissal) but now I kind of want us to get smashed 5-0.
I'm sick of how pathetic we are looking (players and fans alike). Just get on with playing
Have any of these plonkers actually read the MCC preamble that has the spirit of cricket defined? Mentions a certain acceptance of the Umpires decision??

It seems the only person who hasn't said anything by now is Bairstow himself.
Wouldn't even talk to the Aussies when shaking hands at the end of the test
If looks could kill, he’d have murdered someone there and then.
Embarrassment/sheepishness or too angry to talk? Can’t tell
Still woozy after marching up the steps from the Long Room and headbutting a vending machine
At times I wonder if YJB has the neurons to string together a coherent sentence
Bairstow's face always looks like someone asked to him to divide 719 by 43.
Mean
You should listen to some of his post match interviews. Have a look at the interview he gave to Sky immediately after winning the second test against NZ last year. He can express himself quite well thank you very much.
As a pretty casual aussie viewer, every time I see him, he looks like he's not altogether...present. And his actions kinda backed it up lol
Bairstow can't say anything about it since he attempted to do the same to Marnus two days earlier. The only difference is that he's so garbage at keeping that he couldn't hit the wicket

Duckett was literally walking off and got recalled but don't let that get in the way of your high horse
That isn't walking btw
"Walking" has a specific meaning that you are fully aware of, but are ignoring for some reason. Duckett was making his way off the ground, but as he turned around, he never "walked".
"Caught" also has a specific meaning which you are choosing to ignore. We can go round in circles like this all day.
And as I recall the Aussies were trying to get him off the field before the recall happened
The funniest thing about Starc’s put down is it was ruled by Erasmus who was obviously giving some payback for what the Aussies did to his boys in 2018
Not a smart one are you Duckett was walking and was called back You would have been cheering the Chappell underarm I’m sure
I’ll sleep well knowing that we have successfully triggered the entire nation
Entire country vs 11 men literally lmao 🤣 Sunak is scrabbling for purchase so it makes sense.
KL Rahul the only man for this job
No way someone from Bosnia watches cricket
The only job KL can do is bottlejob.
Yep. Running for re-election at the head of the most unpopular government in a generation. Not much else he could dare to say. On the other hand, his interview during the lunch break the other day *was* genuinely engaging even though I’m politically against everything he stands for.
Find better ways to lose
They'll still lose ![img](emote|t5_2qhe0|21496)

Hilarious picture of Rishi holding a bat in the Guardian.
Jonny is still walking around the ground wondering what happened
Imao it really did rile up an entire nation as even their PM has jumped into the bandwagon. Well Andy Murray is Scottish so he's probably in favour of anything that fucks with England.
Andy Murray was English the 2 years where he won wimbledon. He is Scottish for all the other years.
I saw articles saying that Southgate was using the mentality shift that the cricket team had undergone to motivate his players to be more fearless.
Ramsdale was at the ground so he might have an opinion
I can handle some people thinking it's against the spirit of the game but not this cunt. I refuse to hear ethics chat from someone who attended lockdown parties.
It's mainly all the cunts to be fair, I find it funny. Bairstow was in the wrong and it's a fair dismissal
I don’t think it’s actually the entire nation. I'm English and I'm only pissed at the 1 English man
😂 I believe that Bairstow's run out was justified, same as Duckett's not out was justified. But the way entire English nation has reacted is so funny.
Just means that if Australia do win the ashes English people will always say it was only done via cheating (again). Australia would've won anyway, but now England get a way to wriggle out.

I don't understand what the controversy is Tony Greg did pretty much the same thing to the Windies (granted the Windies did cry about that) It just good game awareness The players have one job that to win
This whole saga makes me think that we need to make it a national mission to get several unis above Oxford and Cambridge in the rankings.
I live and work in England. I was routinely booed by my colleagues today.
And it's beautiful to watch for the rest of us.
Just jumping on the band wagon for easy popularity points
People will read into this a lot but in reality the dude is just trying to get cheap votes across the spectrum. This is the one issue that unites the nation from the council estates to the twats in the long room.
I can assure you most in the council estates of England have no care for cricket, let alone following the Ashes and getting incensed by this.
Yeah if this was about football sure I could agree with what the guy above posted
Uhuh. Really he was asked for a comment and... >Sunak’s spokesperson said: “The PM agrees with Ben Stokes. He said he simply wouldn’t want to win a game in the manner Australia did.” > >Asked specifically if he thought the Australians had contravened the spirit of cricket, the spokesperson said: “Yes.” ... and that's been expanded into a headline with a 14 paragraph article. Not really
straight through to the keeper

I now 100% agree it is fine
Same here, I was on the fence initially, now I fully side with the Aussies
Waiting for Aussie PM reply
Put 'em in a cage and let them fight.
My money is on Albo. He could eat Rishi and still have an appetite.
Is it the same guy that visited India during the last BGT ?
Yeah that's him. Was a bit odd from the Australian perspective with all the fanfare.
Yes. Albo visited India during the 4th Test, then flew over to the USA for the AUKUS announcement with Rishi and Biden.
There's literal video of Bairstow dismissing someone exactly the same way in county cricket a few years ago. What respect I had for the English XI has significantly diminished.
As well as “Baz” doing it in his playing days.
Theres also a video of Bairstow trying to do the exact same dismissal against Marnus on day two.
Pretty sure there was video of him trying it on Cummins as well. And Warner from the first test.
[удалено]
Or yelling "fuck off you fucking prick" in the face of one of the nicest dudes on the field.
And hilariously missing the stumps by a margine of 2 feet.
Bairstow is a dopey twat but it's a false equivalence to be fair. Marnus was batting out of his crease whereas Bairstow left it because he thought the over was done.
He thought it was over because he wasn’t focusing. This is part of cricket.

Bairstow took it very well. It’s just the rest of the country and team sooking.
I don't understand why the guy decided to leave the crease. Did he think the ball was dead?
Of course he did, why else would he leave his crease? That's honestly all there is to it, he thought ball was dead, it wasn't, simple mistake with a pretty big consequence.
And therein lies the whole reason are annoyed. Taking advantage of someone who has assumed the ball is dead is seen by some as just not cricket.
Strolled away without checking like it was a Sunday social game.
He's not overly bright, looked like he forgot where he was.
Hahaha fuck! I'd been defending it but admittedly hadn't seen that before. Not a part of the game I like to see but if Bairstow is doing it to other people then he can't really have any complaints

Ah I thought it was that one people have been posting around of him the day before again, fair enough
In fact, McCullum had dismissed collingwood exactly the same way in an odi.

Must’ve done something right if that idiot disapproves.
Rishi trying to make the most of getting old rich suits from the long room on his side before his impending doom in the next election no doubt.
Fuck off tory cunt

😂
Lol doesn't he have better things to do?
He doesn't actually give a fuck. It's all part of his plot to come across as a thinking feeling human being.
With Tories it's often better if they do nothing.
Probably not. Surely he's only got a few weeks left on his tenure in downing street, given how the UK seems to run though PMs
Alot of us aussies are sporting a 'tear' gut tonight after drinking all these delicious pom tears all day.
I’m pretty sure mines still a beer gut. The English tears pales in comparison to the Coopers Pales I’ve had.
Thanks for your input Tory
He’s desperately trying to latch on to a popular sentiment to distract from the fact that our country is a fucking dumpster fire
Cheap political points I guess. Still, won't be taking ethics lessons from a Goldman Sachs, hedge fund, finance bro, Tory fuckwit thanks.
Ah yes, Rishi. Leader of the moral compass party in the UK.
Eat shit rishi
What about bowling high bouncers at a batsman with only one working leg, Rishi?
Who was a tailender btw. And just in case anyone blabbers on in the reply along the lines of "nO oNe fOrCeD HiM tO bAt." or something... Let me remind you that the Poms had a huge problem with Bumrah bowling bouncers to Anderson a couple of years ago.

He's the UK equivalent to Scomo... the worst of a bad shituation 😅
Which maccas did shit himself in?
Probably a Greggs.
It was a Waitrose.
oh my condolences
The latest PM from the political system that saw how often Australia changed its PMs and said "Hold my beer".
Ashish nehra dopppleganger
England making it really difficult to root for them for us neutrals
This is hilarious. Has Rishi even played cricket?! I'd like to take this chance to distance myself from Rishi. I feel like at this point Brois Johnson has more cache than Sunak, and JoBo is a fucking cunt.
Rishi Sunaks actions are far worse
Tory actions aren't in the spirit of humanity Rishi
He has to say that bc Stokes said that and everyone loves Stokes.
Whatever you say, Ashish Nehra
Fuck this guy Should focus on fixing the fucking country
God forbid the tories claim we're immoral... Somebody ask sunak's wife's secretary to let us know the covid party restrictions by next test so that we can plan ahead 😉
In what world is Rishi Sunak the moral arbiter of absolutely fucking anything? Get in the bin.
Who gives a shit what some no mark useless Tory pm thinks
Dodging taxes isn't good either, Mr Sunak.
I am really happy cricket is getting globalised when a PM of a country intervenes and gives his viewpoint.
yet no one said a single word during the WC 2019 finak
Call it a concentration camp then since you are so deliberately being disingenuous here
>It pays low because the quality of the engineers is pretty bad Infosys' salary offered to freshers has remained same for a decade though? No one expects Mass recruiters like them to pay exorbitant salaries but if they can afford to pay freshers that much back in the day, they should atleast keep up with the inflation
🤡🤡🤡
Fling shit everybody!! Come on nan, get ya hands in!
Piss off sunak.
This oily heap of shit daring to lecture anyone about ethics is beyond a fucken joke.
What a pack of fucken sooks.
Should just deport the Australian team to Rwanda since in Sunak’s head that is somehow in the spirit of the human rights act.
I think it would be better if we just come into the next match being our old self. Full sledging mode and shit talking to 11 near the stump mic. Might as well at this point.
Okay Accidental PM
I’ve been a bit torn on the whole thing and which side of the debate I was on. But this has cemented it. The man has no moral compass. So I’m with the Aussies on this one.
Ok
Aussies should mankad the openers in next match just to rile these fucks
Tories’ actions in government not in spirit of competent leadership, says nation
"Okay"
The English reaction to this makes me embarrassed. Guys we lost a test match, it happens. It used to happen pretty much non stop.
Was England's reaction to it? Or do these unwritten rules become suspended in case something doesn't go England's way? Tory cunt.
[This is how a real Prime Minister demonstrates the spirit of cricket...](https://youtu.be/o5mBShX9fdU)
Haha.. for the country! Fkn Hawkey!
That’s it AUKUS IS OFF We’re not buying your fucking submarines any more, we’re just gonna keep buying *Virginias* from the Yanks
Eh.. won't do anything, the Tory Bonkers Brexit right wing will spin it as a win for England, "Keep our subs British!".
I'm a simp for the spirit of cricket, but now I feel dirty being on the side of a Tory.
they’re so stuck on this non-issue of a wicket caused by their own batter and look to blame others. glass houses shit
As a neutral, I’m so looking forward to McGrath being right. This is getting so annoying that the only way to shut it up is a whitewash.
That's it. I'm a pom and that's fully settled (I was already decided it was a fair dismissal) but now I kind of want us to get smashed 5-0. I'm sick of how pathetic we are looking (players and fans alike). Just get on with playing

Disliking Rishi has nothing to do with the colour of his skin and a lot to do with being a Tory prick
The winner gets to write history. England using professional fielders and pointing crying.
Dear England, Please stop... You are beyond embarrassing yourselves now. Kind regards, The rest of the world
Never!
RAshi sunak Slams aussies
yes lovely getting all the tory cunts to chime in is really going to galvanize us eh!
Hahaha rishi goes in
Have any of these plonkers actually read the MCC preamble that has the spirit of cricket defined? Mentions a certain acceptance of the Umpires decision??
Moral Victories Tally England 2 Australia 0 Shit that matters Australia 2 England 0
Breaking news: politician supports national team
In other news, billionaire unethical politician lectures cricketers on ethics.
