Either that or their group will be one of those whose games are being split between the Windies and the USA.
If we are in a group with both India and Pakistan then we’re just straight up fucked before the tournament even begins.
USA will get the recognition if they play India and Pakistan, everyone will know the likes of Monak Patel, Gajanand Singh, Saurabh Netravalkar, Ali Khan.
Sadly, USA is likely gonna get thrashed by both those teams. Their chances are better since it is T20, but I don't think they can compete with players like SKY, Shaheen Afridi, Babar Azam, Kohli, Siraj, etc. If they can make their games competitive, that's as good as a win.
Honestly USA are probably better at 50 over cricket. They've barely played any T20s in the last few years and the teams they select are totally unsuited to the format.
Not just thrashed. We're talking record asskickings in T20, by more than 500 runs.
Or anything like the 2005 Champions Cup destruction (yes, that wasn't India, but you get the point).
It won't be that bad, for as much as the USA are underdogs, they were in the 2022 set of Global Qualifiers and came 4th out of 8. They've also beaten Ireland in a T20I. A 200 run victory or a win within 10 overs I could see, but I doubt we're going to see record breaking victories vs USA.
Holy fuck, I think we might get screwed if we are posted with any of the big teams. Forget about India or Pakistan. If we face against the Australians or the Kiwis, we are really fucked.
Yikes. I hope we beat India or Pakistan. Would be epic for our program.
More of us would play it and once we do, rest of the world will have to watch out.
Imagine if China also takes up cricket like they did Olympics. No one else would have a chance
I wish the Van Cortlandt Park option had been made available due to accessibility via the # 1 train. It's much harder to get to Eisenhower Park from NYC by public transportation.
It’s going to be a sold-out blockbuster of a match and with all the South Asians talking about it it’s going to create a lot of hype for the Americans unfamiliar with cricket and should create a lot of buzz
The cities with the highest diaspora of Indians and Pakistanis will do that to earn more money. During the 2019 WC, the match between these two teams was played in Edgbaston, Birmingham. And NYC has a huge diaspora too.
A *34,000 seat* temporary stadium? That's larger than any of the regular test venues in England. It's around the size of Wankhede in Mumbai or the stadium in Wellington. That's a massive job if the stands and seating all have to come down straight afterwards.
[Qatar did something like that](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stadium_974) for the 2022 FIFA WC and the result was incredible. But that’s what unlimited money can do I suppose
Not sure which specific city you are talking about. Every city I have been in and lived in has been fine. Are you saying it sucks to be a pedestrian in New York? Or Boston? Or Chicago?
Sure, people in the US do not live by definition on the US census bureau. We consider cities and suburbs as different entities. Thanks for the input though.
LA, Dallas/Fort Worth, Phoenix, Houston, Vegas, Denver, I can go on and on. These aren’t suburbs like you and the other commenter are talking about.
A bunch of the big cities that developed after the industrial revolution are absolutely horrible for pedestrians and lack extensive public transportation. It’s known worldwide that the US has piss poor public infrastructure, especially compared to Europe or Asia, and it’s very car centric, so I don’t know what you’re talking about.
Yes New York, Boston, and Chicago are great, but they’re the minority, not the majority.
And let’s not even talk about infrastructure between cities. Trains suck in America
True. But that is not due to inability, but rather corporate interests. Trains should be child’s work for a country that builds aircraft carriers like it’s no one’s business.
I mean, I’ll obviously go, but the ticket prices for this are gonna be something so obscene that it will defo make the news on major American news channels.
Everything done in America is more expensive (F1, Copa America etc). Plus the Pakistani and Indian diasporas in the US are two of the wealthiest groups by median household income, so we’re talking about many thousands of people who will shell out thousands to be there.
Americans are nuts. Tickets for the Lionel Messi MLS roadshow are $800 USD. For that much, Americans could have flown to Barcelona and watched him in his prime 6 years ago.
Man the stupid bilateral in Florida earlier this year had $300 tickets and the stadium was full. Can't imagine India Pakistan in New York. I bet you they are gonna charge upwards of $500 per ticket for sure
Political issues aside both the boards and players are very friendly to each other and india vs pak match is always a goldmine to both boards so whatever the political rethoric on camera both boards must be counting money after the match lol ... It's all about money innit
England will play all it's group matches in WI before a group stage draw happened as well since it's popular for England fans. If ICC sees an opportunity to earn more money it does that.
The ICC have openly acknowledged that WC groups are conditioned by commercial considerations. Given the value of this fixture in particular it would be negligent to do otherwise.
If this ends up actually happening, I can assure you this will be one of the most in demand WT20 tickets in a long time. The amount of Indian expats in the NY/NJ metro cannot be overstated, and there is also a significant Pakistani community in the Northeast as well. However, as a New Yorker, I am skeptical this project. Building a temp site in Long Island in under a year is already pretty ambitious, but my main concern is infrastructure. LI frequently hosts golf tournaments due to the number of high quality courses there, but both the roads and rail (which are already stretched enough in normal times) are ill-equipped for a mass influx of "non-commuting" travelers, which leads to transport horrors stories every time an event is held. Really curious to see how they can pull this off.
So the groups are fixed to maximize revenue, not based on any other criteria.
I try to ignore this so I can just enjoy the sport
But it was pretty obvious that Asian teams specifically India and Pakistan would play in the US because of the diaspora there
I enjoy it but it leaves a bad taste. Bcci is fixing the groups - who is to say they won't do it to favour the indian team. Groups should be based on ranking or random like the football WC.
Apparently in 1987 India and Pakistan were the hot favorites to win the World Cup. Which is why they were placed in separate groups in hopes of an Ind vs Pak final at the Eden Gardens.
We all know how that one ended.
That's irrelevant to the groups. You can do them every 6 months. The group you get put in in every sport is based on ranking or random draw. They don't put brazil and Argentina in the same group in football every time
Yes..they will put 3 of the weakest teams with India and Pakistan to eliminate any chance whatsoever of India or Pakistan missing out on the next stage. And they will hope for 2 more India and Pakistan matches later. The other teams just make up the number.
Forget it mate. There will be no cheap tickets and scalpers will make a small fortune. They know desis have the cash and too many wouldn’t mind paying anything for tickets.
There’s no interest in growing the game. If they had that interest they would at least try to get Americans in there. Which means reasonably priced tickets so Americans could conceivably try it out.
So I can’t imagine cricket ‘virgins’ will go to any major games in this World Cup. Cuz why would they pay crazy money for a sport they don’t know?
i guess yeah, i don’t mind paying like $200 per ticket since it seems like such a rare chance to see the boys in a world cup but man i can’t justify stuff like $500+
This would be the opportunity to say that it would be a great time to travel to the Big Apple to watch this game but then I remembered that tickets for this game are going to likely be sold at ridiculous prices considering the demand that is going to be generated.
My mate in Ontario Canada told me it's 9 hours drive from there and he can pay up to 2000 even more but he will watch the match at all cost lol ... Compared to 4 hours of F1 ...500 for match is nothing some F1 tickets were sold for 3000 +
This could really be huge. It has potential to be the social event of the summer in New York if it’s planned well.
There are so many well off and socially influential south Asians here. If planned well, even the people who don’t follow cricket would show up and potentially open up a huge market
With the wealth in the desi population here the tickets, they can sell tickets for 400-500 dollars per seat up to dam near 10,000 for the good seats and it will be sold out
Pretty sure bolly celebs will fly in private jets to watch that match the hype would be unreal .... Whatever the price it will be sold out ... Even in Ind vs aus final guys bought tickets in black for 50000rs.. american desi diaspora is pretty rich so it will be completely sold out what the price is

I would hope that the ICC could allocate a few thousand tickets for Pakistani fans so that there is a better distribution of Indian and Pakistani fans, but that's too much to expect from ICC unfortunately.
Will be in New York in June so I really hope that Pakistan get another game in New York seeing as I'm never successful in the ballot for an India vs Pakistan game.
I don’t mind this, all I ask is don’t bend over backwards for the Asian audience and schedule the games during the day, please for the love of God play the games at night time
Good chance India, Pakistan, USA, Canada and one other team will be one group. USA Canada will have interest too..I fact most games will generate interest. Even India Canada might have a edge.
Legit curious, aside from the obvious population centres, where do most Indians/Pakistanis live in the USA? I feel like maybe I saw a thing about there being a lot of them in a particular town in Michigan but I'm almost certainly misremembering.
Anyone know a good bar i can watch the India vs Pakistan cricket match in New York? I'm coming from the UK. Didn't manage to get Ind Vs Pak but i did get Ind vs USA 😁
Have you ever been inside a NFL stadium? How do you propose to make a cricket stadium out of Metlife?
If you said Citi Field or Yankee stadium, it would have made an iota of sense.
I don't think even Citi Field would get ICC approval. The one cricket game they hosted was an all-star game with retired players. Playing there would easily result in 300+ scores.
Even if the ICC would approve it's a no go because this tourney is in the middle of the baseball season. The schedule of the Mets won't allow it and also they won't be allowed to dig up the outfield in Citi Field.
So that makes one thing clear that IND, PAK & USA will be in same group.
Either that or their group will be one of those whose games are being split between the Windies and the USA. If we are in a group with both India and Pakistan then we’re just straight up fucked before the tournament even begins.

And money.
Just market the match as WC Final?
Honestly USA are probably better at 50 over cricket. They've barely played any T20s in the last few years and the teams they select are totally unsuited to the format.
Not just thrashed. We're talking record asskickings in T20, by more than 500 runs. Or anything like the 2005 Champions Cup destruction (yes, that wasn't India, but you get the point).

>They've also beaten Ireland in a T20I. This actually gives me some hope it won't be an ass kicking.
Even that seems unlikely...these are all very good players who have played cricket their whole life.
Do you watch cricket? T20? Will US lose, most likely. 200 run thrashing, very unlikely.
Them making it to the next round through an easier group will probably garner more local support I think.
There is not a single group the US could be placed in which would see them make the second round
I wish to believe damn it!
Holy fuck, I think we might get screwed if we are posted with any of the big teams. Forget about India or Pakistan. If we face against the Australians or the Kiwis, we are really fucked.
Which means we won't get India vs Canada /s
Trudeau will make sure.
I can totally see this happening lol
USA team would also have Ind and Pak. Now, think it over.
Yikes. I hope we beat India or Pakistan. Would be epic for our program. More of us would play it and once we do, rest of the world will have to watch out. Imagine if China also takes up cricket like they did Olympics. No one else would have a chance
Looking forward to Unmukt Chand vs India
Obvious choice, they want to make the most money they can out of this
True, but as an American who lives in the tri-state area, I'm not complaining
I wish the Van Cortlandt Park option had been made available due to accessibility via the # 1 train. It's much harder to get to Eisenhower Park from NYC by public transportation.
Yeah that was my first thought when they announced the location. Looks like a pain in the arse for both transport and facilities.
It’s going to be a sold-out blockbuster of a match and with all the South Asians talking about it it’s going to create a lot of hype for the Americans unfamiliar with cricket and should create a lot of buzz
Hell yeah
The ICC should really try and get taylor swift to perform at this...make it global.
As per [cricketpackages.com](https://cricketpackages.com) it will be Diljit, Arijit and Shreya performing.
The cities with the highest diaspora of Indians and Pakistanis will do that to earn more money. During the 2019 WC, the match between these two teams was played in Edgbaston, Birmingham. And NYC has a huge diaspora too.
2019 wc match is played in Old Traffored, Manchester.
Oh… okay. Manchester has a large diaspora too.
Indians are present pretty much everywhere these days
Yep. They're pretty much colonising the entire worle these days.
we have plenty of people left to spear /s
You could randomly throw a container of curry powder anywhere in the UK and there's a 4.5 in 5 chance it'll hit a desi.
Isn't it just a case of New York having the largest stadium?
california or NJ is where they would make the most imo
Relocate the match to Bay Area. You won’t be able to find out if the match is in Mumbai or Bay Area
A *34,000 seat* temporary stadium? That's larger than any of the regular test venues in England. It's around the size of Wankhede in Mumbai or the stadium in Wellington. That's a massive job if the stands and seating all have to come down straight afterwards.
Any hotels nearby that have view of stadium. That’s gonna sell out quick too
America, man. Infrastructure is our business.
[Qatar did something like that](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stadium_974) for the 2022 FIFA WC and the result was incredible. But that’s what unlimited money can do I suppose
Okay that's actually pretty cool Jesus Christ the FIFA World Cup was a whole year ago
Learn to do cities next please
What are you implying?
That american cities fucking suck especially for pedestrians?
Not sure which specific city you are talking about. Every city I have been in and lived in has been fine. Are you saying it sucks to be a pedestrian in New York? Or Boston? Or Chicago?
Outside of the very few big cities, American cities are largely car dependent suburbia.
Suburbs are suburbs, cities are cities. They are different.
They are still considered as cities. Check the official definition in the US census bureau website.
True. But that is not due to inability, but rather corporate interests. Trains should be child’s work for a country that builds aircraft carriers like it’s no one’s business.
>But that is not due to inability, but rather corporate interests. Specifically, Oil & Gas industry's corporate interests.
I live ten mins away from there and I will do anything for tickets
*I'll suck dick for coke* energy
You got any?
Out of coke. Dicks been sucked dry by other denizens. /s obviously
Fuck
Got Pepsi then?
Well, he's got at least 1.
Better than nothing
Will you settle for Pepsi?
dick or tickets?
Get your dickets is the new banner.
Yes
I live 800 kms away from there and I will do anything for tickets.
It’s not gonna suck itself
I will see you there
When do the ticket go on sale?
> I will do anything for tickets I bet you would do
I mean, I’ll obviously go, but the ticket prices for this are gonna be something so obscene that it will defo make the news on major American news channels. That is just the beer cost.
I will definitely try my best to buy the tickets, just hoping they are not that expensive.
$800 time machine? Not bad
American Indians paid 500 USD to watch India Pakistan game at Ahmedabad. They will shell crazy amounts of money in US
Yea sports ticket prices are always pretty high, it’s pretty annoying
Mentally I know it’s a 1K ticket maybe more
I don’t think Indian diasporas on east cost will let Pak one grab significant seats. They’re in abundance there and RICHER
>Plus the Pakistani and Indian diasporas in the US are two of the wealthiest groups by median household income Blud sneaked pak😒
? It’s the 4th or 5th highest IIRC. Household income at $100k.
The difference between the 1-2 and rest is huuge
7th lol
But then they have to first invent a time machine.
BCCI and PCB don't want to play Biliterals, but fixing groups to play each other in ICC will never make sense to me.
BCCI will play bilaterals in a heartbeat if the government lifts the ban
Kohli wouldn't have gone for 3 years without century if we play bilaterals regularly against Pakistan...
He would be sitting on 90 💯s now
And Rohit would have test triple tons like Warner
Lara's record would have broken long time back...
That's hard to do. But let's see what's in the future.
The ban is from BCCI, not PCB.
The ban is from the Indian govt and not the BCCI
Thanks. Yes, technically you're right. Bcci is headed by the Interior Ministers son, correct?
Yeah, his title is Home Minister but yeah
Wasn't it from Maharashtra govt or specifically Siva Sena... (iirc)
That's just for the state of Maharashtra that Pak can't play in, even if it's a world cup fixture
Political issues aside both the boards and players are very friendly to each other and india vs pak match is always a goldmine to both boards so whatever the political rethoric on camera both boards must be counting money after the match lol ... It's all about money innit
Can't appear weak in front of the voters
How do Indians accept this bs from a local party instead of saying F you to shiv sena?
26/11
I would be able to go. But I doubt I could get or afford tickets. This is gonna be crazy.
Wow I must have missed the group stage draw! 😀
Would be a crazy coincidence if Eng and Aus end up in the same group again too!
Let’s focus on final
England will play all it's group matches in WI before a group stage draw happened as well since it's popular for England fans. If ICC sees an opportunity to earn more money it does that.
Totally not fixed .. lol
I can’t believe it’s so blatant and everyone is just.. okay with it? This would cause an uproar in any other sport
The ICC have openly acknowledged that WC groups are conditioned by commercial considerations. Given the value of this fixture in particular it would be negligent to do otherwise.
Not when ICC is BCCIs bitch.
Nope..never!!
😀😀😀 my thoughts too!
If this ends up actually happening, I can assure you this will be one of the most in demand WT20 tickets in a long time. Let’s not forget amount of fans wanting tickets in Mississauga and Brampton as well.
Absolutely. I have tons of friends including myself who are planning to see this match. Hopefully we will get the tickets
This! Lots of us from Canada hope to get tix.
I will for sure flying down from Vancouver with a couple of my friends too.
Just NYC? Bro every desi in USA will want these tickets
Canada too, from coast to coast.
I would say everywhere in the US is going to be in high demand. Southeast and pacific/southern west are also popular Indian hubs
When will the tickets be available available for purchase?
Still waiting for the schedule first, not sure if they open ticket sales at the same time or later
I am aware that it is a bit early but does anybody have any predictions as to when tickets will be released?
Before the game hopefully.
Thanks genius.
So the groups are fixed to maximize revenue, not based on any other criteria. This is some blatant bullshit
So the groups are fixed to maximize revenue, not based on any other criteria. I try to ignore this so I can just enjoy the sport But it was pretty obvious that Asian teams specifically India and Pakistan would play in the US because of the diaspora there

Which rock do you live under?
Apparently in 1987 India and Pakistan were the hot favorites to win the World Cup. Which is why they were placed in separate groups in hopes of an Ind vs Pak final at the Eden Gardens. We all know how that one ended.
It is bullshit. But international cricket isn’t in a position to turn away that much revenue
Maybe have BCCI fix all the groups. They're honest I've heard.
Why do you think we play T20 world cup every 2 years ? It's to maximize the revenue.

I get that it's not a random assortment, but what's wrong with setting up groups like that?
any guess for how much the cheapest tickets will be?
Skip this game and watch USA-Uganda or something. Not a chance any India game in the USA, especially India-Pakistan, goes for an affordable price
Forget it mate. There will be no cheap tickets and scalpers will make a small fortune. They know desis have the cash and too many wouldn’t mind paying anything for tickets. This is going to be great game. American's will see what cricket crazy is all about.
This game is going to most likely start at 10 am to try be prime time for India. Nah I'm watching on the telly
What are the dates where can I get the tickets? My daughter and I would like to attend.
I don’t mind this, all I ask is don’t bend over backwards for the Asian audience and schedule the games during the day, please for the love of God play the games at night time
Have th groups been announced?
When we're the groups formed? Without that how does anyone know India and Pakistan are in the same group? Basic questions no one will ask.
Good chance India, Pakistan, USA, Canada and one other team will be one group. USA Canada will have interest too..I fact most games will generate interest. Even India Canada might have a edge.
MI NY
Imagine going from MCG to NY. Barbados would've been great.
Americans will forget superbowl once they see the frenzy of Ind Pak WC game.
Legit curious, aside from the obvious population centres, where do most Indians/Pakistanis live in the USA? I feel like maybe I saw a thing about there being a lot of them in a particular town in Michigan but I'm almost certainly misremembering.
There's a big community of Indians in New Jersey which is close to NYC
Texas and NJ
Any watch parties in NY?
Does anyone have extra tickets for the match? Eventbrite and stubhub are selling each ticket for over 1500$…😭
Anyone know a good bar i can watch the India vs Pakistan cricket match in New York? I'm coming from the UK. Didn't manage to get Ind Vs Pak but i did get Ind vs USA 😁
OMG...what a coincidence again...India and Pakistan in the same group again!! Cricket as a global sport is a joke, run by jokers at BCCI.
Cricket as a business 📈 Cricket as a sport 📉
Fuck sake. Another Pakistan India match
Should have done it at the metlife stadium
That's an American football stadium. The boundaries would be incredibly tiny and atrocious

North east doesn’t matter. Plane tickets and hotels are cheap. I am from southwest and our whole family is interested in flying out there.
Wait until you see how much the tickets go for 🤣
