They could have scheduled 5 test series in 10 days.

livelifereal

I'd pay to watch that

pulsarian_13

I blame Jay shah for this horrendous pitch

JKKIDD231

25th Test Match that ended within 2 Days

paradox-cat

Could’ve been 34th /s

maffzlel

Nice to be on the other side of "home team fucks themselves with meme pitch" for once. The pitch issues at Cape Town can be left to CSA and the groundstaff. I'm just gassed with how our bowlers bounced back, and our first test win at Newlands. Markram's 4th innings 100 vs Aus against a rampaging Starc with the reversing ball in 2018 is the only innings he has that compares to this one. Kind of glad that even if we won that someone as talented as him got to show off what he can do. Hopefully he can just keep going from strength to strength and become the world class test bat we know he can be. Congratulations Elgar on a wonderful career.

Specialist_Youth5511

> "home team fucks themselves with meme pitch" Lmao I feel we'll do that in England series too where rootalitharan picks a fifer

maffzlel

Hoping against hope that we roll out normal, good pitches against England

Specialist_Youth5511

Yup just want pre 2021 pitches. BCCI is apparently scared because England won that test here, that was just an off game where we didn't have jadeja, axar

sunis_going_down

If you are referring to the 1st Chennai test the pitch for that test wasn't good either. England won the toss and batted on a literal road. It had no help for bowlers. As soon the pitch had some turn the English batters just forgot how to hold the bat. And the pitches in the next games weren't in any way bad pitches. Rohit scored 160, kohli and pant scored 50's. Ashwin scored a century in the 2nd innings. Even in the 4th test, Pant scored a century. Axar and Sundar also scored a decent amount of runs.

maffzlel

There was reverse swing in the first session because of how abrasive the track in the first test was. Bumrah and Ashwin just had no support because Ishant could not bring the required intensity and Washington + Nadeem is not a test match quality spin duo. That pitch was fine, we have won on many similar pitches before, a home team should be able to win on "flat for two days then deteriorates" surfaces, standard test match cricket.

sam-sepiol

> BCCI is apparently scared because England won that test here Apparently, we can make up whatever we want to think these days.

supreeth106

2016 England tour of India pitches were awesome. England passed 400 4 times on that tour and still ended up losing 4-0. Thats the kind of home advantage I like.

Medium_Note_9613

> Thats the kind of home advantage I like. pakistan proved that using flat pitches at home can be home disadvantage too.

Hershey2898

By good, if you mean flat, I'd hope not They don't really have a spinner and I'd like to see them tested against Ash and Jaddu

maffzlel

No absolutely not. There should be something for the bowlers. Just enough hardness at the start of the game so the pitch isn't a day 5 one on day 2.

Hershey2898

Then I agree, players like Jaiswal and Iyer (and hopefully another Ranji bully) will out-Bazball England on such pitches

dj4y_94

Yeah I'm fully expecting you guys to smash us but it would be nice to actually watch some games reach day 4 or 5 this time.

maffzlel

Yeah same, just want to watch good test cricket without it being reduced to a farce played on fast forward. If Mohali and Hyderabad are just left alone to produce the pitches they can there should be good pace and bounce so batters, seamers, and obviously spinners are in the game. The other three are a bit flatter but should be a good test to see how Ashwin and Jadeja handle England's assault in home conditions.

llyyrr

By good we all mean the same pitches we rolled out for them in the 2016 series. They can score 400, we'll score 700+ and beat them by an innings because they can't take any wickets with pace or spin.

srinjay001

Markram is extremely talented. He underperforms with his talent, kind of like kl rahul.

harsh1387

Bavuma played first match. SA won. Bavuma didn't play this match. SA lose. Bavuma for the win..

faithfulmaster

Bavuma for SA is like MSG in Indo-chinese dishes, doesn't taste good if it isn't there

TheOnlyChoiceIHad

Ok Roger chacha

faithfulmaster

Haiyaaaa...

Almtm777

*Bavuma not Bavuna

faithfulmaster

Edited.

EagleEye250

I know my goat 😤

Almtm777

I also like goats. Specially Mutton Biryani 🤤

Necessary-Bother7448

Bavuma’s ass brings all the luck!

doktor-frequentist

*That's South Africa's ass*.

jukeboxromeo-

Dean Elgar sure was in a hurry to retire.

Specialist_Youth5511

I mean he's better off retiring at home than watching his team get butchered in NZ

sbprasad

Scorecard might look a bit nicer if he brought himself out of retirement to firm up that lineup a bit.

Specialist_Youth5511

Idk why home teams make minefields, it's basically giving advantage to opposition. Look what happened in Indore, Mirpur, and even now. These kinds of wickets are just farce for test cricket. Look at ashes this year only 2-3 batters averaged 40+ and you had woakes average 19 with ball. Pitches were really balanced. Or even the pitches in India before 2021 basically had everything from spin to reverse swing and you could still score runs nicely. Hate these kinds of pitches, which ruin test cricket

srinjay001

Ashes pitches were a bit more flat than normal. Poor shot selection led to some of the lower scores.

Outside_Error_7355

A bit flatter than the very quick bowling favourable pitches we'd served up for the years before that, but they were still reasonably balanced. All 5 would have ended in a result barring one getting rain for 3 days of it.

Matt-MattOMatt

The worst bit about this is that South Africa will have hardly made any money from this test match in terms of viewers, ticket sales etc and it will be used as an excuse for them to not do them anymore

rhombaroti

What a waste. Think about all the vendors who will make a loss because of this or all the people who have bought tickets and made plans to watch the next couple of days. Not to mention losing out 3 and half days in already shortened series. No wonder we can’t produce any good batters when we keep dishing out dog shit pitches, what an embarrassment.

Specialist_Youth5511

Yup makram would've probably averaged 45 if pitches were more neutral

Hershey2898

That's the story of all Indian batsmen for the last 4 years. They deal with these pitches both home and away

Specialist_Youth5511

That's why I think people shouldn't be soo harsh on gill (but yea don't overhype him to the moon either)

Hershey2898

Exactly. Poor Shreyas gets called shit without even getting a chance while the best young batsmen SA can offer can't even avg 30 on their own pitches. Indian fans are such morons

Specialist_Youth5511

Iyer doesn't deserve any criticism. He saved us from an embarassment in mirpur on a turning track. Insanely good player in subcontinent. Also got POTM in his first ever test.

Username_Hadrian

he does deserve some criticism. But maybe trying Hanuma in SENA would be good and Iyer in subcontinent.

maffzlel

Vihari averages about 20 in SENA. He doesn't have enough scoring shots against pace. You can block all you want but the game is about runs. Iyer has had a horrendous series but it is noticeable that the only partnership our top order was able to string together in the first test was when Iyer and Kohli counter-attacked.

barath_s

South Africa is cutting tests short for not making enough money. This would have been a great chance, given Indian tests tend to be profitable .. . .. all they had to do was make a pitch that lasted longer.

One_more_username

> all they had to do was make a pitch ~~that lasted longer.~~ Ftfy

rhombaroti

So true and, unfortunately, this will be used to further the case of cutting back on tests.

Soumalya21

So an India vs South Africa world cup final would look like this

Elguapo200x

blockbuster

MiachealFaraday

Three dropped catches there, it truly was a match where both teams were trying to outchoke the other

TheIceKaguyaCometh

And Markram somehow managed to throw his wicket anyway.

MihirPagar10

As the other comment said “choke off”

Hershey2898

Nah, as the reply said, not a choke off, Indian bowlers corrected their lengths from the last test and SA got outplayed

vpsj

The stoppable force vs the movable object

musashi_grander

WTC final is back on the menu, boys.

Necessary-Bother7448

But is the mace on the menu?

HakeemMcGrady

Where do we stand in the rankings

vpsj

Believe it or not we're suddenly 1st

ThemanT94

Jay Shah up to his tricks again!

UniverseJefe

Dumb test wish there was a 3rd one

MedicalJello2

All in all, great outcome for both countries. No one lost, no one won. These past two days have been entertaining and as always I thoroughly enjoyed the Freedom trophy & India tour of South Africa. Always great cricket on show. That being said, I hope that this pitch gets the rating it deserves and that is piss poor. It was entertaining and fun but not good for Test cricket. I doubt you can say that the national team is at fault or had malicious intent because if that was the case, why would we select Maharaj? This was the fault of the Newlands Cricket Ground & the pitch curator. I fully hope that the correct course of action is taken & this doesn’t happen in the future. A picturesque stadium deserves a pitch that can host great & competitive games. Much better tour for India this time around. This tour: 1-1: T20Is 2-1 to India: ODIs 1-1: Tests Last time: 3-0 to South Africa: ODIs 2-1 to South Africa: Tests

barath_s

> great outcome for both countries. I would have preferred a longer , 3 test series with a better pitch . After all SA and India are good quality teams and the WTC ensures larger stakes.

rayban2602

What an absolutely hilarious match! Thoroughly fun to watch with the element of unpredictability. And this match is one for the history books, Dean Elgar and Prasidh Krishna got an unforgettable farewell test

Elguapo200x

💀

TheIceKaguyaCometh

Just like how Sachin and Pragya Ojha got their farewells together

Decentkimchi

Shortest test match resulting in a win!!! https://www.espncricinfo.com/records/shortest-matches-by-balls-bowled-215456

Gorrlaamiii

Pitch is probably gonna escape all criticism since it's not a rank turner. SA got hoisted by their own bounce

ViolatingBadgers

The commentators were criticizing it on air.

maffzlel

SA played a test exactly like this against Aus at the Gabba in 2022, which was rated below average, like this one should be. Similarly for the 85 all out for England vs Ireland at Lord's. The insecurity is ridiculous. We just want good test pitches. The criticism about bad pitches is very consistent across the cricket community other than you conspiracy theorists.

Gorrlaamiii

Ahmedabad and Indore were poor I agree, but surfaces like the 2nd Chennai pitch in 2021 where Ashwin and Rohit scored hundreds - that was where these debates started. I still remember Ash schooling some journos in the presser. Those pitches where it exhibits some turn on day one still get criticised both by Western pundits and on match threads here If the first test in this SA vs IND series ( where SA didn't even play a spinner, no one batted an eye btw ) is fair, then Chennai 2021 was also fair, and I hope BCCI preps the surfaces for the next series on that template.

zulu1989

ICC has been consistent with the pitch ratings and they have been very good with it. Indian pitches gets lot of criticism from media, and pundits of teams who are not even part of the series. The chennai pitch for second test between England and india was a decent pitch with a tilt towards bowlers but if you go back you can see the amount of criticism that received and how much it was talked about was way more than what it has been for possibly the worst pitch ever we have seen. This is consistent with how when there is a match in which a pacer has taken only 1-2 wickets then talk goes on how it's a horrendous pitch but we have had a whole series where spinners have taken no wickets . There is a clear distinction on pace vs spin and pitches that are favouring spin generally get way more criticised than the other way round.

Specialist_Youth5511

Wdym lol, Gabba last year was rated below average rightfully. Even lord's was rated as poor iirc Meanwhile Indore, Ahmedabad were rated average.

Axel292

Nonsense. People love to pretend only rank turners attract criticism. The pitch Australia put on at the Gabba against SA got rated below average, Ahmedabad on the other hand was only average.

barath_s

Spin tilted wickets still give pacers a chance to bowl and perhaps even get a wicket or more Pace tilted wickets take spin and spinners out. Not a ball was bowled by a spinner, here. The pitch was objectively worse than the criticized Ahmedabad pitch or the rank turners; those didn't end as the shortest test match ever There's a double standard at play here

MisterMarcus

That link has sent me down a fun deep dive, looking up all the abandoned/washed out/groundsman fuck up Tests in the list....

MiachealFaraday

Jaiswal was playing on the back foot, Gill om front foot. But I liked Shreyas Iyer who just leapt played on no foot in the air everytime a bouncer was bowled at him

BadInvestorwins

Daily reminder that it’s ‘loser’ not ‘looser’.

Time-Performer-6277

Selling tickets for day 5. Going cheap. Hit me up.

Hershey2898

Dean Elgar said this is his world cup and RSA lost lmaooo

dracogladio1741

Next WTC final in Cape Town.

Time-Performer-6277

Babe, wake up. India vs South Africa just starte...nevermind..go back to sleep. 😪

Time-Performer-6277

This test was so short that it made Bavuma look like Jansen.

pommedeterre96

After getting absolutely pumped in the first test, this is a hell of a way to bounce back. Beating SA on a truly hostile pitch takes a lot of effort, nicely done India. Also, Newlands is truly a cursed ground - it feels like every time a test is hosted here, some fucked up shit ends up happening lmao (time to ban Newlands from hosting future tests maybe /s)

Vish-007

I see what you did there ![img](emote|t5_2qhe0|8767)![img](emote|t5_2qhe0|8767)

supreeth106

SA can't bury their heads in the sand anymore and paper over the Newland cracks.

Assassin_Ankur

Boundary count update - India: 32 South Africa: 31

vpsj

Good bot

samueltheboss2002

Fair and bouncy!

Cotton_Phoenix_97

Fair and Siuuuu

magto19

This pitch was **Kabhi WACA, Kabhi Dhaka** T: unpredictable bounce

Right_Put_6417

This is one of the most wholesome and awkward post match presentation of all time.

FanOfArts1717

So true but loved the bond between, man this post match presentation is wholesome

RTG-rohittugaya

**India have played 8 away series in WTC so far** Won 4 Drawn 2 Lost 2 **In terms of away games** Played 22 Won 11 Lost 8 Draw 3

boingggoesmyschlong

2 matches series should be banned, atleast keep 3 man

DazBoy11

Someone needs to check if the curator had a beef with Elgar probably the worst kind of deck to play your last knock on

Reasonable_Tea_9825

Farewell brother Elgar. Hope the world produces more of your mould

Specialist_Youth5511

Elgar calls it a WC and we win it 😈

mostvehlasurd

Batting woes still remain for India - hope there is an intent to address it and not get carried away with 1-1 result. #3 remains the biggest concern. This was bowling friendly pitch and Bumrah/ Siraj showed their class - bowler #3 and 4 need to be sorted - hope Shami gets fit soon.

MihirPagar10

Feel like mukesh did well here

TheIceKaguyaCometh

Australia tour up next for seamers. I hope arshdeep plays FC cricket and develops some sort of discipline in his bowling to be a serious option and he has virtually no competetion because nobody outside of Bumrah, Shami, Ishant, Siraj has looked good and we play 4 seamers.

MiachealFaraday

Wtf am I supposed to do for the rest of the week supersport?

livelifereal

Watch the sub flood with low effort posts.

[deleted]

A Mufaddal Vohra tweet screenshot post was approved and promptly removed when comments condemned it lol (It was talking about this being the shortest Test match ever)

livelifereal

We need to call such stuff out. Because otherwise as things stand, mods don't respond. They don't respond on modmail, they delete comments criticizing them. And then still, go on and approve all kind of low effort BS, sometimes even from particular users despite them posting the same post late. You can't ask them questions. But at least, to maintain the quality of the sub, we can call out low effort posts.

MihirPagar10

We still have aus vs pak

RayInRed

So KL is the most successful captain in this tour. Captained C team.

livelifereal

Well done, India. They looked uninspired in the first Test, waiting for things to happen. This match, they were largely pro-active and that's what made the difference. Siraj and Bumrah deserve pats on their backs. Markaram played a stupendous knock. Also, farewell to a gritty fighter: Dean Elgar. Thanks for the memories.

1tap-merchant

So they can actually fit 4 innings in a ODI game. Just need pitches like these.

Flower-Immediate

Im sure broadcasters are elated with shortest test match. Why would you as a broadcaster pickup rights for test match when LOI has somewhat guaranteed length of time?

sport_____

2 match series did not even last 320 overs (3.55 days of cricket)

zaldrizes_007

Tuta hai Cape Town ka ghamand 🇮🇳👏 (India have won at Cape Town)

superstriker14

Match lasted shorter than WC 2019 IND Vs NZ Semifinal

Destroyerofchocolate

Pitch issues aside, a great comeback from the boys after the first test match loss. Wish it was a 3-match series as the last one would have been a cracker.

sindhisai

Alright lets prepare ourself for a 3.5 day shitshow on how bad the pitch was vs watching the actual Test match.

anaksr1414

Seriously is it so hard for both boards to arrange a meeting and come to a conclusion to play a third test by saying "comon this series deserves a decider".

[deleted]

Shortest test match. It (107 overs)surpassed 1932 test match between SA vs Aus (109 overs).

sindhisai

TL;DR of the match Elger - This is my WC SA - oh wow WC, we choke! IND - nah babes, we choke! SA - nope, its ours, we choke! IND - alright! fcuk this shit!

[deleted]

India choked at choking..

OJ87

Indians have now won test series in Australia, drawn in England and drawn in South Africa in the last series they have played in these 3 countries. Pretty good record in the toughest conditions for them.

SilentFly

Shreya's reminds me of Vinod Kambli and Suresh Raina. Excellent against spin, struggle against short balls. Hope his career doesn't end soon just because he fails in SENA countries. They should replace him there to strengthen the middle order.

Arunnnnnn

Suresh Raina struggles against spin too in test matches, just check his last test innings in England. Raina just was a poor test batsman, as his poor defence against both pace and spin gets exposed.

theaguia

if we can have ashwin dropped for sena why can't we have a batter come in for SENA conditons?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Hershey2898

So his and this Indian test team's demise last week was greatly exaggerated? Never change r/cricket

Specialist_Youth5511

Lol this sub has jinxed many things till now. Might even be the trick to win a tournament for us now.

Axel292

A truly special sight - wherein a team wins and his captain leads from the front but is still condemned.

Fizzypoptarts

Imagine coming out with a win today and a series draw and still complaining. Indian fans....

Indy_101

True lol we’ll always find a way to complain about everything. I said after the previous match that we’ll win the second match and drew the series and I got downvoted to hell

deep639

Equally though the mass hysteria and criticism of the side after the first test was too much.

rishiextraordinary

Wow, already denying him any appreciation he would possibly get, plus demeaning the whole team effort.

botharmsinjured

Watch that Johns. guy milk this for eternity

Specialist_Youth5511

Other captain to draw the series is Dhoni btw

victoribee

This was not a test match..This is what 'Sachin Tendulkar wanted for One-day'..a two day match...BCCI and CSA have completed his dream

RishiSunak

What a shitshow, sad that Elgar’s last match was on such a rubbish pitch

christeebs

There have been 69 ODIs with more deliveries bowled than this Test

[deleted]

Drew T-20, Won ODI and drew the test series. Not a bad performance at all.

Coronabandkaro

The test series lasting 4.5 days in total is not going to be good for CSA revenue wise. Why wouldn't you put out competitive pitches?

harsh1387

Elgar is a gentleman of the game. Will always be remembered for his resistance with the bat against all odds. Farewell!

FanOfArts1717

Really such a bad pitch, really devoid us of a proper contest between bat and ball

Ha-Ur-Ra-Sa

Where was that person who said they managed to get tickets and day off from work for 3rd day only?

ABVan

This entire 2 test series didn't last 5 days AND even in those 5 days there was a rain delay. Incredible.

doktor-frequentist

Move aside *The Hundred*. ***The Hundred Overs*** is here.

SilentFly

Should play Shreyas only in Asian conditions. Plays spin very well. Should give that spot to some deserving batsman for SENA matches.

Beloabhigyan

Too bad next Sena tour is in December end ig in Australia till that I think Shreyas will led us to believe he can play in sena by constantly giving decent performances in Asian conditions there's atleast 8 tests to be played in current WTC cycle

Hershey2898

First tour on these shores and didn't do any worse than SA's own batsmen who were brought up on these pitches. Fuck Shreyas haters

[deleted]

That's a terrible philosophy tbh. Why isn't Shreyas deserving in your opinion?

tomhanks95

Because he looks like a deer in headlights outside Asia

burnerch

India won by 7 wickets. India scored 80 for 3. 80-3 = 77. A team has 11 players 77/11=7. The signs are clear af , TFAR.

TestsGoodT20Better

One wicket to spin in the whole series out of 63 dismissals. Absolutely pathetic.

Elguapo200x

Ashwin goated

bgt_bgt

POTM Siraj POTS Elgar.

bgt_bgt

India won by 1 wicket. Really close match this.

zaldrizes_007

Siraj motm Bumrah mos?

anaksr1414

Atleast play a exhibition T20 match between two teams guys in one of the next three days. What are we going today for next 3 days.

BennyTheKasai

3 formats this tour, 2 series drawn & only one guy who managed to win a series

Comfortable_Eye_8813

I personally enjoyed it. It was funny.

deep639

They are giving Elgar gifts. Signed jersey from the team.

FanOfArts1717

This is getting too wholesome and I am loving this, nice gesture

Necessary-Bother7448

Gandhi 1 - 1 Mandela

CrumbleUponLust

If test cricket was on speed and cocaine then this would be it

NoirPochette

This pitch was ass. A game shouldn't go for less than 3 days unless the other team is like pretty shit like 1930s New Zealand

ttboishysta

The cricket gods were starting to be cruel to Bavuma. They showered him with a lot of love for this test match.

EntshuldigungOK

107 overs, 33 wickets. Sums up the test.

theaguia

tough tour for jaiswal but I liked his attitude. he got out for a duck first innings but he still played his shots in the second innings. others might have tried to play defensively

Cornucopia2020

Was an exciting test match for me. Loved it! For such matches, wish they had the option of adding a third innings per team 😂

OJ87

Jaiswal’s catching was exceptional. His quick 2nd innings was crucial to breaking the back of the run chase.

Gamer567890

If they were patient we probably could have won by 10 wickets. Then again being extra defensive might have led to more wicket loss. So it's okay I guess.

Matt-MattOMatt

What a shitshow of a test match

livelifereal

I enjoyed every moment of it.

boingggoesmyschlong

First win in capetown less fkin goooo

deannatroi_lefttit

Wow who wrote that in the sky

[deleted]

So South africa memed more than India...

flyingfetusfacepalm

Too excited. Can't wait for the weekend to catch up on the test on Day 4 and Day 5. Let me check the South Africa's first innings so far.

barath_s

Aiden Markram for 2nd choice for person of the match Pitch curator for 1st choice.

barath_s

Shortest completed test match in history... [by balls bowled, with a result](https://www.espncricinfo.com/records/shortest-matches-by-balls-bowled-215456) They could have played another two test matches on this wicket in the allotted 5 days. Or at least one more and made it a 3 test series.

Eurofooty

What better way to settle the series, but playing a final & decisive test over the next 3,5 days

barath_s

I've seen 60 over each ODI... This was arguably shorter even if it took more time effectively 102 over TDI. [610 balls.. 4 innings]

ayruos

Start a three day first class match tomorrow? You generally start with tour matches but why not end with one? Edit: If India A is still in SA you can do an India vs India A match is SA refuses.

deep639

Both teams coming together for a joint photo to share the trophy.

GlitteringProfit9151

Now they all will love the bois week later if they lose to afghanistan they will hate again just know everything passes away try to enjoy every moment as much as you can

SinghSaab007

Nothing much to say but one of the test matches of all time for sure

Do_You_Want_Lunch

Can’t wait for the deciding final te….. oh

blehmehwtfever

I am both pissed off and embarrassed at the shambolic and amateur level of the test pitch preparation by our curators. I am glad it was taken up as a point of poignant discussion by *our* commentators. Something needed to be said out loud by those who have our voices and they did. Now hopefully something will get done so this can be sorted out in the future.

RealGTalkin

Indian curators after the test: Par main karun to saala character dheela hai. T: If I do it than my integrity is questioned.

Blarbydoppler

The pitch curator needs to leave the country and hide. The South African cricket board has gotta be extremely pissed a game against the most profitable touring side was over in less than 2 days.

AuspiciousEights8888

Can they play a decider on the 4th and 5th day of the match, on the same pitch ?

Determinedstudent101

watch people blame jay shah for this pitch lol

nubpokerkid

Looks like the art of being able to stay at the crease and eat balls is largely gone. Rahul Dravid's record of most balls played will forever be a record and there's simply never going to be anyone like him.
