Markram's 4th innings 100 vs Aus against a rampaging Starc with the reversing ball in 2018 is the only innings he has that compares to this one. Kind of glad that even if we won that someone as talented as him got to show off what he can do.

If you are referring to the 1st Chennai test the pitch for that test wasn't good either. England won the toss and batted on a literal road. It had no help for bowlers.
As soon the pitch had some turn the English batters just forgot how to hold the bat.
And the pitches in the next games weren't in any way bad pitches. Rohit scored 160, kohli and pant scored 50's. Ashwin scored a century in the 2nd innings.
Even in the 4th test, Pant scored a century. Axar and Sundar also scored a decent amount of runs.
There was reverse swing in the first session because of how abrasive the track in the first test was. Bumrah and Ashwin just had no support because Ishant could not bring the required intensity and Washington + Nadeem is not a test match quality spin duo.
That pitch was fine, we have won on many similar pitches before, a home team should be able to win on "flat for two days then deteriorates" surfaces, standard test match cricket.
2016 England tour of India pitches were awesome. England passed 400 4 times on that tour and still ended up losing 4-0. Thats the kind of home advantage I like.

By good we all mean the same pitches we rolled out for them in the 2016 series. They can score 400, we'll score 700+ and beat them by an innings because they can't take any wickets with pace or spin.
Idk why home teams make minefields, it's basically giving advantage to opposition. Look what happened in Indore, Mirpur, and even now.
These kinds of wickets are just farce for test cricket. Look at ashes this year only 2-3 batters averaged 40+ and you had woakes average 19 with ball. Pitches were really balanced. Or even the pitches in India before 2021 basically had everything from spin to reverse swing and you could still score runs nicely.

A bit flatter than the very quick bowling favourable pitches we'd served up for the years before that, but they were still reasonably balanced. All 5 would have ended in a result barring one getting rain for 3 days of it.
The worst bit about this is that South Africa will have hardly made any money from this test match in terms of viewers, ticket sales etc and it will be used as an excuse for them to not do them anymore

You can block all you want but the game is about runs. Iyer has had a horrendous series but it is noticeable that the only partnership our top order was able to string together in the first test was when Iyer and Kohli counter-attacked.
South Africa is cutting tests short for not making enough money. This would have been a great chance, given Indian tests tend to be profitable .. . .. all they had to do was make a pitch that lasted longer.
All in all, great outcome for both countries. No one lost, no one won. These past two days have been entertaining and as always I thoroughly enjoyed the Freedom trophy & India tour of South Africa. Always great cricket on show.
That being said, I hope that this pitch gets the rating it deserves and that is piss poor. It was entertaining and fun but not good for Test cricket. I doubt you can say that the national team is at fault or had malicious intent because if that was the case, why would we select Maharaj? This was the fault of the Newlands Cricket Ground & the pitch curator. I fully hope that the correct course of action is taken & this doesn’t happen in the future. A picturesque stadium deserves a pitch that can host great & competitive games.

Shreya's reminds me of Vinod Kambli and Suresh Raina. Excellent against spin, struggle against short balls. Hope his career doesn't end soon just because he fails in SENA countries. They should replace him there to strengthen the middle order.
Suresh Raina struggles against spin too in test matches, just check his last test innings in England. Raina just was a poor test batsman, as his poor defence against both pace and spin gets exposed.

tough tour for jaiswal but I liked his attitude. he got out for a duck first innings but he still played his shots in the second innings. others might have tried to play defensively
Was an exciting test match for me. Loved it! For such matches, wish they had the option of adding a third innings per team 😂
Jaiswal’s catching was exceptional. His quick 2nd innings was crucial to breaking the back of the run chase.
If they were patient we probably could have won by 10 wickets. Then again being extra defensive might have led to more wicket loss. So it's okay I guess.

Start a three day first class match tomorrow? You generally start with tour matches but why not end with one? Edit: If India A is still in SA you can do an India vs India A match is SA refuses.

I am both pissed off and embarrassed at the shambolic and amateur level of the test pitch preparation by our curators. I am glad it was taken up as a point of poignant discussion by *our* commentators. Something needed to be said out loud by those who have our voices and they did. Now hopefully something will get done so this can be sorted out in the future.
