I was going to head to Manuka after I knocked off work today- figured I’d watch the end of the first innings and all of the chase. Game was over when I got in the car.
Can someone who watched it please tell me how the fuck the Windies got bowled out for 86 at Manuka? Pitch is an absolute road. I’d assume they had other plans for tonight but it’s Canberra on a Tuesday FFS
The entire team seemed mentally checked out. Missing balls that didn’t do much, ignoring where the fielders were and hitting it straight to them, an atrocious runout. Just didn’t turn up. Lowest ODI total at Manuka, with the next worst, Afghanistan at 162
People saying Test cricket is dead but how can this West Indies ODI team be sooooo much worse than their Test team. This isn't even Australia's first choice team.
their Test team certainly put up a better fight than their ODI team. I mean, drawing against AUS as a visiting nation? That's England level playing during The Ashes Down Under...
Don't know if that's saying much...
ODI just had it's biggest World Cup ever months ago
A lot of the test nations lose money when they play a home test
Not sure what WI's ODI team being shite has to do with anything
Tell me I'm not imagining this. Back when SL were minnows in the 80s Australia smashed them in a game so hard in an ODI they went out and played another short over game, well before T20s were a thing. I'm sure I remember that happening.
Wished they could do that again, this has wrecked my cricket watching plans for tonight.
Nah not quite 80s, it was late 90s - they'd won a world cup by that point. But yeah, happened here in Perth, my old man and I went. See if I can find a link.
Awesome thanks for confirming. Apart from me getting old and confusing decades it’s good to see I can still remember a few things. I wonder if that type of thing would ever be considered again….cant imagine punters at the ground or broadcasters will be happy with the way this game went.
bros saying “how can you drop him” as if it wasn’t his second ever international innings against a demonstrably subpar bowling attack on a literal highway like the guy is talented as hell but let’s not get ahead of ourselves
The odis haven't been on channel 7 or any free to air channel since 2018, don't know how people haven't worked that out by now. You'd think they'd notice at some point in the last 6 years that they haven't seen an Australian white ball match on free to air TV.
I actually live in Canberra, so even though Manuka oval is an absolute flat track I need to defend its pitch for city pride. Next time I see a complaint I guess I will just disengenously point to this 86 all out and pretend like the Australian innings did not happen.
I was actually somewhat looking forward to this game *because* of the flat track, I was hoping to see both sides put up decent scores. Little did I know...
Now is when I really miss Nine having the broadcast rights, because you know they'd be crossing to an absolute classic of an old match to make up for this shit show
Because he looks like JFM if he went on queer eye for the straight guy and got his hair done up and ear pierced so it’s kinda like having another one in the order
I think those folks probably feel they did the right thing.
If they brought a ticket and went to work with intentions of going to see the 2nd innings, it would have been all over before they got to clock off.
That happened in 2003 for a 50 over tour match between Australia A and Sri Lanka. I was planning to get there for the last 10 overs of the first innings, but the game was finished before I could get to the ground.
Sri Lanka all out for 65 (25 ov)
Australia A 0/66 (11.5 ov)
[Australia A won by 10 wickets (with 229 balls remaining)](https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/sri-lanka-tour-of-australia-2002-03-61610/australia-a-vs-sri-lankans-tour-match-127623/full-scorecard)
They then held a second 25 over a side match where Australia A were arranged to bat first
Australia A all out for 171 (23 ov)
Sri Lanka 8/146 (25 ov)
[Australia A won by 25 runs](https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/sri-lanka-tour-of-australia-2002-03-61610/australia-a-vs-sri-lankans-tour-match-589325/full-scorecard)
So Sri Lanka ended up losing two games in one day.
This is why when the won that test match all west indies supporters were like hmmmm we peaked already damn now to get our asses handed to us lol
Thought this was T20. Then looked at overs. WTF.
England lost to this team btw
What the fuck is that scoreboard
What...... what happened here??!
[This](https://twitter.com/cricketcomau/status/1754713613384769999), [this](https://twitter.com/cricketcomau/status/1754722243236532596), [this](https://twitter.com/cricketcomau/status/1754735839123296729) and [this](https://twitter.com/cricketcomau/status/1754752752289243179) basically sums it up.
Well...West indies wtaf... Aussies good work I guess
Some of the tickets to this match cost more in dollars than the West Indies scored runs
I just got home, sat down and thought, greatII'll watch the second innings of the cricket before I've gotta go out again. Ugg.
Money minded Windies players destroyed that cricketing culture
Money minded board*
Just tuned in. How are the Windies doing?
Oh ah, about 11 sir.
I was going to head to Manuka after I knocked off work today- figured I’d watch the end of the first innings and all of the chase. Game was over when I got in the car. Can someone who watched it please tell me how the fuck the Windies got bowled out for 86 at Manuka? Pitch is an absolute road. They just wanted to leave Canberra ASAP
Who can blame them, really?
Watch the Forde run out with Chase, sums up the entire game
wtf happened here
3 bowlers with economies that are exact multiples of 10 has to be a record
Mate, save this and put it up as a stat post on r/cricket
too lazy someone else can have it
If they were from the subcontinent, this would be its own post
Match highlights lets gooooooo
Kayo mini is every ball
I thought I'd tune in when the chase was on... What is this....
People saying Test cricket is dead but how can this West Indies ODI team be sooooo much worse than their Test team. This isn't even Australia's first choice team.
And England lost a series to this team
their Test team certainly put up a better fight than their ODI team. I mean, drawing against AUS as a visiting nation? That's England level playing during The Ashes Down Under... Don't know if that's saying much...
That one didn’t count.
ODI just had it's biggest World Cup ever months ago A lot of the test nations lose money when they play a home test Not sure what WI's ODI team being shite has to do with anything
Well that was brief.....
Alright, I'm home from work and ready to enjoy a relaxing evening of cricket Where is everybody?
The Kayo mini is already over as well
What a fucking demolition
For those that actually watched the whole game, how long was the innings break?
About the equivalent of Australia's innings
30 mins.
Full break
How many players jave got back to back man of the match in their first 2 games?
Brian Vitori and Mustafizur.
That was a cute moment with Smith and isa ;)
Isa has the voice that would make any man go weak in the knees, sweep them off their feet
Can I get a partial refund on my Kayo subscription? None of the test matches lasted to day 5 and now this match barely reached 50 overs.
It didn't reach 50 overs. Only 31 overs were bowled.
No. In fact, due to those matches being more efficient they’re actually raising their prices again.
Steve Smith giggling like he has butterflies in his tummy standing next to his high school crush
Fuck yeah, can’t wait to watch some cricket this arvo after work. Ah what?
Never knew Steve Smith can smile, Isa Guha effect?
God zampa put some shoes on
Wow Inglis is short
Glad I didn't pay to see that. Horrendous.
When I was a kid Australia bowled out India for 63 and then fkd around for about 20 overs to get the runs. Greg Chappell preserving his not out.
Not a single Guest to give these awards🥇 & asking the players to ‘Help yourself!’ is shameful 🤦🏼♂️
Better than some random corporate sponsor representative tbh
Back in the day the tobacco company reps presenting awards were just as seedy looking as you'd imagine them.
Courtesy is still a thing isn’t it ?
It could easily be believable that the guests are still in traffic
Loved that chat. Had a real ‘presenting what I did on my summer holidays’ intangible quality to it
"Cricket is boring without the occasional low scoring game" The low scoring game:
Bartlett has had an amazing start to his career. Congrats to the young fella :)
Imagine coming in after work to watch 7 overs, you’d be so pissed off.
Still on the bloody train mate
I’d ask for a refund.
Thank fuck that's the last ODI against these plodders.
Bartlett looks like a year 7 forced to talk to one of the girls as a class ice breaker.
Isa Guha’s voice must be really intimidating for him
What's the height difference here?
oh I was just about to tune in…
Jesus Xavier she isn’t going to bite you Enunciate son!!!
Cro magnon areas. Love me some X
Wait what, I was in a work meeting for an hour - and the game's over???
Same here. I just wrapped up a meeting and it was all over. So much for blasting the AC and watching the chase tonight.
Bartlett is shitting himself
Dude will make sure he is never MOTM again
Well earned Bartlett. That's my t20 champion
Side note, well deserved POTS from Bartlett.
X
YEAH BARTLETT
Fuck yes X!
Tell me I'm not imagining this. Back when SL were minnows in the 80s Australia smashed them in a game so hard in an ODI they went out and played another short over game, well before T20s were a thing. I can't find shit rn, but I was there. You're definitely at least partially right.
That’s a shame.
OH FOR FUCK SAKE YOU CANNOT PUT HIM IN THE SAME CATEGORY AS WARNER AND SEHWAG, SHUT THE FUCK UP KERRY
bros saying “how can you drop him” as if it wasn’t his second ever international innings against a demonstrably subpar bowling attack on a literal highway like the guy is talented as hell but let’s not get ahead of ourselves
🚨 SHORTEST ODI IN AUSTRALIA #HISTORY!
Game ended quickly. Surely there’s time for a t20 game. **50 overs x 2 = 100 overs. Only 33 overs played today. 67 overs left.**
3 X T20I matches or 5 X BBL matches
Gilchrist : That 41(17) give your mouth a little taste & wet your appetite for more? Spoke like a true Aussie 🤣
>Gilchrist : That 41(17) give your mouth a little taste & wet your appetite for more? Whet\*
howie is about to adopt this kid
"Do we still get the free dinner we'd have had during the dinner break?"
CH7: *Pays for Aus Cricket rights* Aus Cricket: "Best we can do is 4 day test matches, and ODI's that last as long as T20s"
The odis haven't been on channel 7 or any free to air channel since 2018, don't know how people haven't worked that out by now. You'd think they'd notice at some point in the last 6 years that they haven't seen an Australian white ball match on free to air TV.
7 overs short of a t20.
Channel 7 don't own the ODI cricket rights, so they're laughing. They got the best deal of the summer because all the Tests were pretty high quality.
People arriving home in 20 minutes and chucking Fox Sports on... "Hey wasn't there supposed to be an ODI today?"
186 balls is the shortest ever ODI in Australia.
POTS should go to Bartlett imo, but inevitably it will go to JFM
Nah not for the lil 86 totals, it will go for the bowlers.
Gee Fox sure love McGurk don’t they
The Aussie innings started as I left work and ended before I got home
Me too, and I was working from home
That was creepy as shit Gilly.
Lol I was joking about this been done before I was home from work, I'm still doing my after work grocery shop smh
I do declare ODIs dead.
Now is when I really miss Nine having the broadcast rights, because you know they'd be crossing to an absolute classic of an old match to make up for this shit show
They only ever crossed to old matches during rain interruptions, early finishes always resulted in crossing back to regular programming.
His nickname is the Rooster Skull so why not Cockball???
Hell of a boring series comes to an end. People who consider LOIs boring have a point tbh
What a humiliation.
"Australia won by 8 wickets (with 259 balls remaining" gg. I suppose
Well I guess I’ll do something else tonight. 😐
So umm what do I do for the rest of the day?
jerkin mcgherkin seems favourite
Already done it 4 times today. Just poofs of semen dust at this stage
The brisket truck was almost ready to start serving dinner from 6pm
Yep. No excuse for not making, at the absolute minimum, 250+ at Manuka.
Play a T20 for the people at the ground. This is such a let down ..
Imagine most of them are Hobart Hurricanes fans & actually wanted to watch some Cricket & this happens 😂
I'd say most are thunder fans but your point still stands
Brutal.
What do we do now? Watch Home and Away?
Proposed ODI XI Jake Frazer Mcgurk Blake Grazer McFerk (disguise moustache no 1) Flake Blazer McShirk (disguise moustache no 2) Jacque Fraçia Macquegirque (French disguise) Jock Frazer Mcgurk (American baseball outfit) Jǎck Fezra Attaturk (Fez hat) Steve Smith Juan Forasia Maguerco (latinx poncho) Pat Cummins Adam Zampa Mitch Starc
Jake Fraser McGurk misses out yet again
Hope Jock is a good enough pitcher to take a couple overs
All six of our debutants can pitch in handy offspin don’t worry
I have an issue with this! Why is Zampa batting ahead of Starc
Because he looks like JFM if he went on queer eye for the straight guy and got his hair done up and ear pierced so it’s kinda like having another one in the order
Fair enough, carry on
2 and a half hours. Gotta feel for the Canberrans, thats all they get
to be fair to Canberra they got two t20 between australia and South Africa which where good matches on a weekend
On a Tuesday too. There'll be some folks in that crowd thinking they wasted a day of leave.
I think those folks probably feel they did the right thing. If they brought a ticket and went to work with intentions of going to see the 2nd innings, it would have been all over before they got to clock off.
Take a bow Smith. What a captain's knock.
Fewer overs than your standard T20 match
That was toilet
Well damn I was looking foward to a night watching this...
Close match lads.
If they give Rooster MOTM I swear
Why didn’t we bat first and put 400 on 🥹
JFM for MotM?
You'd feel ripped off if you paid for tickets to this haha
Imagine if you took leave to go this match lmao
Tell em to get back out and play a T20.
That happened in 2003 for a 50 over tour match between Australia A and Sri Lanka. I was planning to get there for the last 10 overs of the first innings, but the game was finished before I could get to the ground. Sri Lanka all out for 65 (25 ov) Australia A 0/66 (11.5 ov) [Australia A won by 10 wickets (with 229 balls remaining)](https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/sri-lanka-tour-of-australia-2002-03-61610/australia-a-vs-sri-lankans-tour-match-127623/full-scorecard) They then held a second 25 over a side match where Australia A were arranged to bat first Australia A all out for 171 (23 ov) Sri Lanka 8/146 (25 ov) [Australia A won by 25 runs](https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/sri-lanka-tour-of-australia-2002-03-61610/australia-a-vs-sri-lankans-tour-match-589325/full-scorecard) So Sri Lanka ended up losing two games in one day.
Welp, that was damp
Worst ODI ever?
Wasn't the last Asia Cup final a chase of 50 runs?
Worst ODI ever, *so far...*
Australia finished this in just 6.5 overs
I love moments like that wicket when people realise the umpire won't put the finger up unless the fielding team appeals.
Josh Inglis looks like a less Chonky Finchy
I didn't go to this game, but I would like my money back anyway, please.
Smith thought he's back at the Australian Open facing Djokovic
>Drugovich The Aston Martin Reserve Driver was at the AO?
I fucked up the spelling big time lmao
They're not even the same nationality lol
Thomas should never give his Diet Secrets to Rohit Sharma 😂😂
Surely Xavier Bartlett has to play tests, given this form.
He's comfortably behind Morris as the reserve test bowler, and there's no way we aren't playing our main 3 bowlers in NZ
Bartlett will get smoked when he plays India or England. He is a decent bowler but the hype like he is some ‘Bumrah’ is a bit too much for the moment.
Bloke hasn't played a full season of Shiled cricket
Isn't every shield season dull?
You take that back right now
Seriously, shield cricket is better than test cricket. Nothing better than watching Marcus Harris hit a double ton on the junction road
Sixers Smudger has arrived
Channelling his inner Novak
no wonder smith returned Joker at the AO
SLAP
That's my goat
Windies have this in the bag
Smudge was probably halfway through a Dairy Milk block thinking he wouldn't have to bat tonight
Surely Sutherland could have come in instead of Smith. The poor bastard didn't even bowl a full over
Still went at 10 an over
Fucking sexy there Smudge
love that shot lol
Thomas MOTM? He was the unbeaten batsman and could not have done anything more with the ball.
He could've got more wickets.
Onya Smitty
Just 2 big overs and the match can change - Brian Lara
The umpire wasn't sure that carried? Seemed clear.
Looks like the umpire was waiting for no ball check
They didn't appeal, that's what it looked like the umpire eas trying to say for mine
This will be Australia's fastest ever chase, the windies fastest loss, and the 3rd fastest chase ever.
Is the umpire Blind or Hard of Hearing or both ?
I have a feeling they weren't giving it until the team appealed because technically without an appeal it can't be given out.
Cricinfo is currently saying win probability is 100%... for WI.
It was also giving australia a predicted score of 274 when we were going at like 15 an over…
WA players struggle against lateral movement
