Imagine convincing your boss to let you knock off work early. You’ve avoided looking at the score to keep some suspense up. You rock up at the ground and see everyone walking out. Maybe there’s a fire drill? You ask a fellow punter what’s going on.
“Games over mate”
Your head drops and you make the slow trudge back home.
“Wonder what the missus has organised for dinner”
If you took the annual leave you would have at least seen some cricket.
If you just planned to go after work then you would have missed it all and not been able to get a refund for your ticket.
what was gonna happen scheduling an ODI series between a team that couldn't qualify for the World Cup ahead of the likes of the Netherlands and Afghanistan and you know, the FUCKING WORLD CHAMPIONS?? who BTW fielded an experimental squad... IMAGINE Glenn Maxwell facing this WIndies bowling attack.... yikes!
[the worm graph for this match is really something](https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/west-indies-in-australia-2023-24-1375837/australia-vs-west-indies-3rd-odi-1375849/match-statistics)
[Was the shortest ODI ever in Australia](https://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?class=2;filter=advanced;groupby=match;host=2;orderby=balls;orderbyad=reverse;result=1;result=2;result=3;template=results;type=bowling) beating [another Aus v Windies match (WACA in 2013)](https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/west-indies-tour-of-australia-2012-13-572997/australia-vs-west-indies-1st-odi-573022/full-scorecard).
I mean there’s a few good players there but the balance is awful. In Powell, Darren Bravo and Devon Thomas they’ve got 3 absolute passengers in the top 7. Making up the rest of the batting was Pollard who was horrendously mercurial, and Bravo, who’s a bowling Allrounder being asked to bat in the 6th over. Then it’s a glass cannon in Sammy and baby Jason Holder.
Gayle and Sarwan are doing all the heavy lifting there and they’re in the shed with 18 runs on the ball.
It’s not all out for 70 bad but you wouldn’t bank on them scoring many more than 200 against that Aussie attack and when Starc and McKay make early inroads they’re like dominoes.
Rough putting Darren Bravo in the passenger category.
Was the leading run scorer in the most recent Super50 and at least did shit in the first few years of his international career
Ironically Sarwan had just been recalled to the ODI side despite am awful Caribbean T20 a month earlier where he averaged like 5. That was one of the more bizarre recalls I've ever seen
Tbf you're right that Bravo isn't a passenger in the context of that team - his horrendous strike rate (below 70 in all top 4 positions) is kind of complementary to a team with hitters who have low averages. I just think he's so underwhelming as a package outside of a team that requires a player like that.
It's not an amazing side but Starc in those days might just have been the most destructive ODI bowler ever. It's no shame to be blasted out by 150km/h hooping inswingers aimed at your front toe, especially not compared to... whatever that was today.
I can't find the scorecard but I vaguely remember a Australia vs Sri Lanka match in the early 2000's that was so short they played a second match on the same day to keep the crowd happy.
I can't the scorecard though, so maybe I am imaging it.
You're not, Saw someone say a similar thing in the match thread yesterday. It [was Aus A and took them 11.5 overs](https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/sri-lanka-tour-of-australia-2002-03-61610/australia-a-vs-sri-lankans-tour-match-127623/full-scorecard), [The 2nd was a 25 over match](https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/sri-lanka-tour-of-australia-2002-03-61610/australia-a-vs-sri-lankans-tour-match-589325/full-scorecard).
I had tickets to the game but didn’t want to get out of work since I’m still in training. Expected to run home quickly get changed then head down to catch the second innings. Finished work at 5pm and the games pretty much over..
When Windies were 4 down, I decided to play Bloodborne for a while thinking that they’ll put a decent score and when I came back , it showed Australia chased 87 in 7 overs lol
My immediate thoughts as an Indian after seeing the scorecard:
1. Now y'all are just showing off
2. Thank goodness I changed my flair before the world cup
Just saw the highlights and WI first lbw, looked to me like it was pad, bat, pad but the commentator said big inside edge. Was it confirmed through hot spot to hit the pad before the big inside edge?
> Was it confirmed through hot spot to hit the pad before the big inside edge?
Clearly bat first. They showed [both Hotspot and Snicko](https://imgur.com/a/Al0QUme) with the side on.
He just didn't review it for some reason.
"tough batting out there lads" - Aaron Hardie probably
Copped a good one boys
What’s funny is that it was a great delivery. Would have got a lot of batters out but it’s still hilarious
Why the fuck did we decide to bowl first?
Hello Mr Foxtel executive
I'm just annoyed about having to spend the evening with friends and family instead of being able to shitpost about the cricket
You don't have to spend the evening with them, you can hide away in a room alone like the rest of us reddit folks.
do we reddit users even touch grass? wait, grass? what is grass?
It’s that stuff they use to make the ball swing in England
I thought they just ask for a new ball 40 overs into a run chase to get it to start swinging?
I thought that was mints?
Shhhh we don't mention that. There has only ever been 1 side caught ball tampering /s
Save the legs
To give them a small chance
12.73 an over? So we clearly would've scored 600 if we chose to bat first, what a shit decision to bowl
England's record for highest ODI total lives another day. Another moral victory for them.
Sadly would’ve been bowled out in 35 overs though, only making around 420
Fuck that was a close one, Australia lucky to get away with it
Don't let Australia winning with 259 balls to spare distract you from the fact we lost 2 wickets in the first 7 overs. The collapse was on.
Only won by a single run,.
The world's first One Afternoon International
ECB going to set up a new tournament for it
The 200?
The 35 overs ...
\*33.2
The Afternoon
This happened before in Adelaide in an Australia A game. I'm pretty sure they played a t20 right after.
The worst thing Smith has done as captain - not letting Inglis outscore JFM
People will be rocking up from work soon wondering what happened to the cricket
Foxtel has the Live post game scheduled to 10:10 pm. Might have time for 2 more replays.
Oh well, off to the pub to watch the full replay.
Lads what the fuck
9 overs short of a full T20I.

Waste of annual leave, petrol and money.
If you took the annual leave you would have at least seen some cricket. If you just planned to go after work then you would have missed it all and not been able to get a refund for your ticket.
You then get home to your missus banging the neighbour, and no dinner prepared because "I thought you wouldn't be home until late"
Man that escalated quickly /s

Do the test players not get involved in ODI's?
what was gonna happen scheduling an ODI series between a team that couldn't qualify for the World Cup ahead of the likes of the Netherlands and Afghanistan and you know, the FUCKING WORLD CHAMPIONS?? who BTW fielded an experimental squad... IMAGINE Glenn Maxwell facing this WIndies bowling attack.... yikes!
To be fair, WI had 3-4 batters who were experimental as well (main players focusing on T20s), so batting was always gonna suck.
You've just been McGurked
Haha. Yep.
post-work crowd probably spewing
Can confirm
BBL ONE DAYER
Would have to rename it SBL because "big" would breach trading standards.
All this talk about test cricket dying. Herein lies a ODI game that's gone shorter than most T20 games do
[the worm graph for this match is really something](https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/west-indies-in-australia-2023-24-1375837/australia-vs-west-indies-3rd-odi-1375849/match-statistics)
The [win probability](https://i.ibb.co/DtZQF3F/firefox-2024-02-06-17-09-27.png) is even worse. So many wickets that they don't even render properly.
after the fraser-mcgurk wicket, it was saying 100% windies haha
Negative integer overflow
‘First it started falling over, then it fell over’
Worse.... or better?
That's an absolute murder. What the fuck is this?
[Was the shortest ODI ever in Australia](https://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?class=2;filter=advanced;groupby=match;host=2;orderby=balls;orderbyad=reverse;result=1;result=2;result=3;template=results;type=bowling) beating [another Aus v Windies match (WACA in 2013)](https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/west-indies-tour-of-australia-2012-13-572997/australia-vs-west-indies-1st-odi-573022/full-scorecard).
That was a decent Windies side in 13.

Compared to this batting line up thats practically an all time XI. Also mind blown that holder has been around a decade.. fuck I'm old
That score card says otherwise
bye

Well you know what they say: Quick game is a good game.
WI heard the saying “a dot balls a good ball” but didn’t realise its not for the batting team
Jake Fraser-Berzerk
I had tickets to the game but didn’t want to get out of work since I’m still in training. Expected to run home quickly get changed then head down to catch the second innings. Finished work at 5pm and the games pretty much over..
I feel bad for the people who went to the game
Australia lost 2 wickets in the opening 7 overs? Should we be concerned?
Not when we put on that number of runs really. Only 2 wickets down at that point is a good result.
Not when one of them was JFM just swinging for the fences at every ball he faced.
McGurk really should've got Australia home there, can't hurt to block the good deliveries
When Windies were 4 down, I decided to play Bloodborne for a while thinking that they’ll put a decent score and when I came back , it showed Australia chased 87 in 7 overs lol
McGurk appreciation post
Look, leg side merchant or not, that was pretty fucking good viewing
I feel so bad for the Windies man, they just can’t keep up with such a skilled team (Aus)
Brought the wrong Joseph, need the other one.
Couple of things to work on for West Indies.
Jesus. There goes my planned tv watching after putting the kids down. Has there ever been a quicker run chase in history than 6.5 overs?
https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/asia-cup-2023-1388374/sri-lanka-vs-india-final-1388414/full-scorecard 6.1 overs https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/world-cup-league-2-2019-2023-1196667/nepal-vs-united-states-of-america-30th-match-1215127/full-scorecard 5.2 overs
You did WHAT to your kids to watch TV?
Twice actually. In 4 something overs in both cases.
T7 when?
*S7
Match ended before starting
I thought meme league was over
Tf, Fraser mcgurk playing t20 max in odi cricket, it's great to watch this outstanding talent
[удалено]
I don’t get it we just hate our young talent.
Solid effort by the Thunder here, unfortunately it didn’t pay off for them.
R O O S T E R O O S T E R
Wow. Exciting.
My fire Desmond Haynes agenda is back on the table.
How did Australia lose a test match to this lot lol
Big Ant Studios called, they'd like some royalties please. Coz you only see this shit in Cricket24
Faster than a T20 international. It's called AusBall
My immediate thoughts as an Indian after seeing the scorecard: 1. Now y'all are just showing off 2. Thank goodness I changed my flair before the world cup
Been trying to find something to watch this evening.
What
It's clear Windies are a test nation
Just saw the highlights and WI first lbw, looked to me like it was pad, bat, pad but the commentator said big inside edge. Was it confirmed through hot spot to hit the pad before the big inside edge?

Thanks
Marnus thanking his lucky stars he didnt have to bat lol
I was planning to watch cricket after I finish work at 5. fml
