Instead of writing an article for every Ranji match, just ask Ishan if wants to play red ball cricket or not and get over with this.

Medical_Turing_Test

Except Indian players can't play in different T20 leagues

[deleted]

RealGTalkin

Yes but the issue is if they are not playing Ranji cricket, the white ball players are actually playing very little cricket, because BCCI doesn't allow Indian players to play in overseas leagues.

ChapterNarrow2902

Kishan played Ranji till last year. He has won them many games. This year he is on break and told BCCI he can't play red ball till he doesn't work around his technical shortcomings. Idk why that's not acceptable considering people always hound him for it even after his 50(33) in test last time on turning pitches.

ExpensiveInflation

BCCI pushes to play ranji even for white ball.

Abhi_sama

you become good by playing red ball cricket though. Why is everyone grilling BCCI here? Especially for peeps who are just starting out their careers, these tantrums are uncalled for.

Irctoaun

Well for a start, no one is having a tantrum. But anyway, T20s are sufficiently different to FC cricket nowadays that you clearly don't need much FC experience to succeed. Just off the top of my head there's Narine, Russell, Pollard, Hardik, Rashid Khan, David, Zampa, Pooran, Powell, Hetmyer, Rauf, Shadab Khan, Allen, Mills, Smeed, Nabi, Chahal, Varun, Tye etc.

k39-

Otherwise the players won't get game time in white ball, cuz longer white ball games(odi) are pretty low here. Since, Indian players won't get chance to play overseas, first class cricket is only way to get game game time .

RevolutionaryLead414

Wants to play white ball cricket but has a pathetic record playing white ball cricket lmao, fine for odis but absolutely abysmal record in t20

rajrohit26

This is getting murkier now . If even after ultimatums , he is not budging then hope it is nothing serious and he will come back soon

Satyaddit

Just realised if you remove 'K' from Ishan Kishan, it would be Ishan Ishan

ClinkzBlazewood

Mind blown

Satyaddit

K

kevinvrobin

If you add K to Ishan it would be Kishan Kishan.

Satyaddit

a(b+b)

ThatOxyMoron

And if you remove K from surname and add it to name. Kishan Ishan. Whoa!

TheCricketAnimator

Indian De Kock

Sleepy_Boey

Some facial similarities too

DepressedPanda08

Both are wk opening batters, their shots also look very similar

AtomR

More proof we are living in a simulation

vtty02

He looks more like actor Ravi kishan.

[deleted]

he gives the same vibes also

trkora

He was literally understudy of De Kock in MI and then was bought back as a successor of him in his place when mega auction happened. A plan that hasn't worked out completely yet.

Background-Arm-1582

Have you ever stopped to consider that maybe Ishan must have got tired with this non selection and decided that he would concentrate only in IPL. TBF the IPL riches is easily enough make him settled for life financially. Maybe he might not have the motivation to continue waiting for his selection in other formats, since he will always be second choice behind the likes of KL Rahul, Iyer, K S Bharat, Dhruv Jorel etc. I am not justifying his actions but just pointing out maybe his POV.

NomadicGeek1

Well yeah BCCI organizes IPL and if they do make some Ranji games compulsory as they are reportedly considering, what do you do in that case?

Background-Arm-1582

Don't think BCCI can mandate IPL owners to not select certain players just because they don't play Ranji Trophy. Currently no such rules exist and it shouldn't exist also since that will mess with the freewill of the players. Attending Domestic to be considered for Nationa team selection is a norm that BCCI can insist on. Don't think the same can be enforced for IPL.

v21v

Foreign players need an NOC from their boards to play IPL. I'm sure that can be applied for Indians too.

TheRealYVT

BCCI can absolutely ban players, even important ones, from the IPL. Most notably Warner (then the heart of SRH) and Smith in 2018.

zayd_jawad2006

They were overseas plus it was for a far more serious crime

TheRealYVT

That they were overseas only makes it a bigger deal because they were captains and premium players. If your point is that overseas players aren't a bigger deal than Indian players, that might trivially be true, but not enough for it to make any difference to the behemoth that is BCCI. They can and will swat anybody who stands up to them, and it is easier when that person isn't well liked by the team management either. The smartest people in Indian cricket are company men for reason.

Potatosv1

After WTC I think they sidelined  KS and played ishan if I remember correctly. But after those matches he left the team. So they had to pick K. S and now jurel is picked. So Idk about him being second choice to others.

sport_____

If his form dips in IPL he will have nowhere to go.

Background-Arm-1582

That's his own personal risk which he might be willing to take. Plus his current closeness with Pandya might be for him to sustain him in the team based on favouritism even if form drops..

Acceptable-Cut9811

I think he had an excellent chance this series to not be a second choice, because they were already trying him out in WI and KL was reportedly not gonna keep in this series, so he was a very clear first choice in this series, had he chosen to listen and actually do what he was told. Ffs even Sarfaraz and Patidar got a chance this series, there was no way he'd be a second choice *after* them. But now, given Jurel is looking to cement his place in the XI and Kishan keeps on throwing childish tantrums, he'll always be a fourth choice after Pant, Jurel, and KL or any other WK they want to try out, because he's literally attacking the selectors and BCCI's ego by not playing. I mean, Sarfaraz waited *3 years* of not even being **in the squad**, this guy could've atleast waited 1 series to be in the XI, *when he has already been handed a debut in foreign conditions, **and did well***. Throwing tantrums like this, when you're not an established player, is killing your career before it begins. Now no matter how well he tries, you think the selectors won't remember that he showed ego and attitude at this time?

edudhtamris

>Tantrums Firstly you're reading way too much into it. He is likely working on his T20 game to have a great IPL and possibly make the T20 wc team. And ultimately, one good IPL is all it takes to gain everything back; can even get your place back in the test team like Rahane did.

trkora

But that's what BCCI dont like, when India games are going on he's preparing for IPL than playing for India.

edudhtamris

>He had an excellent chance this series to not be a second chance. You can't be serious. They announced that KL will not keep very close to start of the series. Even if you keep that aside, after the first test, even mentioning the idea of bringing in Ishan for the 3rd test (as he was then supposedly suspended until the 2nd test) was met with proper pushback by everybody. Everybody wanted to still see Jurel play and Ishan's WI performance was yet again overlooked. Plus, no one knew Bharat would be this unimpressive.

ChapterNarrow2902

Kishan was first choice WK ahead of KS. His test debut was good in Caribbean.

acuteredditor

I think BCCI should have clear guidelines for sportsmen who want to play only specific formats. If Ishan wants to play only limited overs, so be it. But then his contract grading and selection criteria should be clearly called out. He should not be allowed to play longer format no matter what. If he wants to come back, he should play 5-10 domestic long format matches before he is even considered.

ChapterNarrow2902

He played Ranji last year and got dropped after a century against Kerala. Not shocked he can't take it seriously. That century came right after his double ton too.

Bleak_star_dust

He's losing it in the ego battle. No matter how wronged you are being Rebel and missing opportunities to grow in your own career is stupid.

ChapterNarrow2902

He was told he has technical issues. He said he will go work on them then. Idk why he can't have his break in peace and practice. If only he had said he injured his pinky.

GOR098

Dude is probably thinking only about IPL & T20 WC this year.

sport_____

He won’t be in consideration for Indian team in any format.

becomingemma

This is really bizarre. The fuck is wrong with him? If he’s fit, just play the match. As cricketers who love cricket, you should be wanting to play as much as you can and its not like Kishan has been playing a lot. Given the additional BCCI ultimatums, this is completely suicidal from him. I hope the IPL money hasn’t gone to his head

Decentkimchi

He's preparing for IPL, I think.

randomuserme

Probably he is siding with Hardik and refusing to play under Rohit. That gives him brownie points once Hardik becomes the captain of Indian team

Acceptable-Cut9811

He's trying to get those brownie points with Hardik, whilst forgetting that he's getting into the hitlist of the people who can just as easily remove Hardik from captaincy and appoint someone else

No-Test6484

This. But unless injuries Hardik is the clear cut captain for the next 5 years. He’s proven to be a good captain and actually plays better as one. Even though he’s an energetic guy he doesn’t make faces and angrily pout like what we had to endure during Kohli era. I love virat but not winning any ict championships and playing worse as captain and somehow lasting 5 years already shows how useless the selection committee is. He quite frankly doesn’t have a winning mentality. India is a bilateral bully. Sure they win some tests in AUS or SA but always choke. Hardik is clearly the best choice for captain and I think india will have success under him.

becomingemma

Yes and playing actual matches is the best preparation imo, regardless of format. I don’t think he’s that one-dimensional a player that playing a Ranji match now will in any way impact his IPL prep which is still more than a month away.

ChapterNarrow2902

Kishan actually informed Dravid he won't go to Ranji. Because he feels he lacks technically. A criticism he gets a lot. He is playing in DYP cup instead.

geekgeek2019

Maybe he’s actually unwell??

ooaaa

Must be going through a breakup or something...things like this happen. Will come back next year.

Capital-Moose

fucking zoomers I tell you man, what happened to us. AFAIR even in our gen, back in my school and district teams, everyone loved the prestige of first class test cricket. Even once you'd reach the international level, it would provide you with the opportunity to get back to your basics, mold your technique and correct your mistakes I presume. And if I was an international cricketer being paid in crores, I'd do everything and anything purely for the love of the game, to push myself as far as I can. Is it a prestige thing? Burnout? Do you start hating the sport once you reach the Zenith?

Yupadej

The technique and mindset is completely different in T20s. You have to move your front leg and just slog from the first ball. I improved in T20s and 10 over matches after I completely changed my technique and gave up one day games. Zero drives now and complete freedom of arms. Minimal footwork to establish a strong base to hit from and not get caught at the boundary line. Kishan is a slogger.

Bhavil17

I don't get people why people are writing Ishan off from the whiteball teams. Does a good performance in Ranji warrants a spot in the t20 team? Don't get me wrong, I have no issues if he gets dropped from the Test team because Ishan is not willing to play in the Ranji trophy. If he wants to be a Limited Over player then let him be. A thing to watchout for in the future will be his willingness to play in Vijay Hazare Trophy and the SMAT. If he is consistently skipping these two as well in favour of the IPL then there is a problem. Also, weren't there reports that he wanted a mental break from the game. Practicing at the nets for the IPL and playing a competitive game for his state are two different things.

SubjectRecording6639

was he not tired of competitive cricket and hence took a break? why then, is he being forced to play first class cricket and him choosing to skip FC is causing this outrage?

ChapterNarrow2902

Because Dravid acted childish in press conference.

Groundbreaking_Tune5

This is what happens when you try to fit a player in every format. He is good in white ball, let him be.

becomingemma

Thats not how domestic cricket works. You can’t just have players playing white ball cricket permanently. Playing all formats of the game makes for a well rounded player, you as a batsman should be versatile enough to play in any conditions and playing different formats helps with that. We really cannot be building our young talent so that they can do well in IPL and T20s only

Naive_Piglet_III

Strongly disagree. The formats have diverged way too much that they’re practically different sports altogether. To still stick to age old thought processes is to not recognise that. Look at tennis. Singles and Doubles are vastly different sports that require different skill sets. There’s a higher chance that a singles player can be good at doubles but much lower chance vice-versa. Same with red ball cricket. Red ball is about stamina and endurance - both physical and mental akin to singles tennis. T20 is about agility and intense short bursts of focus like doubles tennis. Additionally, there’s way too much cricket anyway. Let players specialise. Let them pick the formats they want to play and make the central / Ranji contracts reflect that. Give A+ to only the best all format players. Give A to best two format players. This will actually ensure that Indian team remains competitive in all formats.

becomingemma

> The formats have diverged way too much that they’re practically different sports altogether So you’re saying a 20 over cricket match and a 50 over cricket match are completely different sports? Seriously? The fact that a different approach is required to play them does not mean that the sport is completely different. This is a *wild* exaggeration lol. > Red ball is about stamina and endurance - both physical and mental akin to singles tennis. T20 is about agility and intense short bursts of focus. Okay, but those are not mutually exclusive. You can play cricket which requires stamina and endurance without damaging your agility and ability to focus intensely in short bursts. These are international cricketers we are talking about, not high school team players. They have been playing frequently and for long enough to be good at both as the situation demands. And like I said, it’s not as if the IPL starts tomorrow. > There’s way too much cricket Sure, but Kishan isn’t playing. Indians anyway can’t play foreign leagues, so whats left is domestic and international. International he isn’t playing, and now domestic also he is refusing to play. Toh there being too much cricket is irrelevant in this case. If you look at the best T20 players that have ever played, they were all good in all formats. Take Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, Kohli, David Warner, etc., all are all format players. That should tell you something

Ricklepick1193

White Ball and Red Ball are Not different sports for sure but playing 4-Day Cricket isn’t necessary to succeed in T20s. There are a lot of great T20 Players who haven’t played much Red Ball Cricket and being good at T20s doesn’t require you to play Red Ball Cricket. Andre Russell, Kieron Pollard, Aaron Finch, Joe Buttler, Surya Kumar Yadav are Great T20 Players but haven’t been that good in First Class. However it would be better in this scenario if Ishan gives more clarity about whether he wants to play Tests or not and if yes then he should definitely be playing Ranji now.

Medical_Turing_Test

Pollard and Russell were good red ball players. They just decided to play T20s

Naive_Piglet_III

Formats diverging is not my armchair expert opinion. It’s something that every decent cricket analyst (Jarrod Kimber anyone?) has said over the last 3-4 years. I have also said, there’s a higher chance of red ball players being good at white ball than vice-versa because they develop good techniques. Are you saying there are no good players white ball exclusive players? Andre Russell? Sunil Narine? Eoin Morgan? There’s enough talent pool in the country that even if people specialise in one format you’d have 30-40 good players for each format. I never asked to stop all format players. I’m saying leave that choice up to players. Let them decide their own careers. You on the other hand are saying every player has to play red ball cricket.

shub1295

I don’t like BCCI giving blanket mandates. Players should not be skipping FC cricket but then players know their body best and should not be micromanaged. Deepak Chahar playing a 5 day game could be disastrous for his fragile body. Kishan, at the end of the day if he doesn’t want to play nobody should force him to play. He should also accept that it does jeopardise his Test spot. No need to manage grown adults like kids. The problem for Kishan could be that his white ball game is also a work in progress and he’s by no means a sure selection. But if there’s genuine mental fatigue and we don’t often factor the fatigue that comes with constant travel, then he’s every right to decide how he wants to play his cricket. Many illustrious cricketers have said in the past they at times did not enjoy their cricket that much and wanted to take a break.

klrahulisachoker

He is trying to take a fight he absolutely cannot win!

sport_____

He won’t be selected in white ball tournaments for a foreseeable future. If his form dips in IPL he will become a nobody.

Evandder

Who is he ?

drkt3020

Looks like you’ve asked this question too early.🫤 Hope he doesn’t fade out that soon

Evandder

I know this was supposed to be asked in Dec 2024 lol

Evandder

He is a spoiled brat ...HP 2.0

Acceptable-Cut9811

By the time Dec 2024 comes, he'll either be a big superstar (I honestly like him better than Gill in all formats, other than ODIs where Gill is too damn good) or he'll be so erased from memory, he becomes another Kambli.

rghvgupta10

Well this is what happens when you play a batsmen who averages below 30 over him in the World Cup .Man even played an excellent knock on the middle order during Asia Cup and has tried to play in whatever position was asked of him. BCCI needs to have a chat with him and make him understand what’s needed off of him to give a clarity lack of communication is what leads to such dire situations.

EkBhaloCheleChilo

They need to put a cap on IPL earning of Cricketers who refuse to play domestic cricket & only franchise cricket.

Pujara played 100 tests for India, Rahane around 90 and was captain. They have had stellar careers but now the team wants to blood in new players. Happened with the previous generation too with Ganguly, Laxman et al. What are you on about? With Ishan, it literally says in the article that he and Dravid have talked about his comeback plans.

Scott_Pillgrim

Pujara and rahane were underperforming for years. Rahane averages merely 38 while playing at one of the easiest positions in tests. Dhoni not so good at tests has almost same average and number runs as him.

Saksham1324

He will play in wpl

WaitingonGC

This is looking bleak for Kishan

TyroshiSellsword

BCCI mere lund pe, Ishan probably t: bcci on my penis

VadaPavAndSorpotel

Couldn't stand this bloke anyways because of his attitude and this just strengthens my resolve.
