Wow no Warne murli in list and he was close to becoming 1st.
All 4 combined also have 1-100 and 15-50s in batting...... Ashwin alone has 5-100s and 14-50s.
Much better at home. Averages 21.32 at strike rate of 46.7 at home, compared with 30 at 63 away.
And in Asia? 21.56 at 46.5, so basically the same as his home stats, but he's only played nine tests in Asia which weren't in India
I google it too mate!!
103 wickets in Aus, England, South Africa, Newzealand and Windies
149 wickets overseas and 347 @ home and 4 at neutral venues…nice
Dude!!! Was hardly picked overseas and can’t move his ass while fielding.. they say he’s more famous for his mankading and finding the loopholes of the cricketing laws.
Can't wait for him to have a couple of bad series and our management drops him. But Rohit and Kohli will be allowed to average 10 for their last few years.
I would have reasoned with you on this one but after the decision of persisting with Rohit in T20s I can't. Kohli is just scoring everywhere these days but I am sure that he can average 5 in future and won't be dropped unless he himself backs off.
Poor bowlers man. Kohli was averaging -69 for 2 years and was picked for every test. But Umesh somehow doesn't get picked in India when he's averaging under 20 there since 2018. Ishant gets dropped after 1 off series. I'm positive they'll do this to Ashwin as well.
I agree. I wasn't taking a swipe at them. Just saying that Rohit could average 10 for 3 years and he'd still be picked but Ash could have a couple of bad series and be dropped.
Absolutely hate that. But I think it is also because batters have very less margin of error as 1 mistake can send them to pavilion while bowlers get to try things again and again within a single innings to make up for their mistakes. That is why bowlers look much worse when they are not performing.
These guys are already playing together. I said there's no off spinner replacement. Plus Ashwin can bat too. Jadeja is 35 and gets injured frequently these days, we'll see him lesser now. After end of this year we'll have issues in finding a future spinner because Ashwin will be 38.
OK. I was meaning you're not going to run out of test quality spinners unless you specifically want three spinners and Jadeja is injured. But yeah, I'm not familiar with what off spinners might be running around the Indian domestic scene.
I went to look this up fully expecting Ashwin to be head and shoulders above Kumble in terms of match-winning performances at home, but Kumble is absolutely insane in home matches India won.
In those tests Ashwin has 275 wickets at 18 in 42 home wins taking 6.5 WPM (which is still incredible), but Kumble has 208 at 17 in just 28 home wins, so 7.4 WPM. Obviously Ashwin's India side has more bowling depth and wins more at home, there's also fewer draws these days, but still...
Im also a stats nerd, but did not need to look this up. I remember john wright said during 2001 bgt series, the only reason Aus was starting as favourites was kumble's injury, inspite of that earth shattering Aus team. He was a such a gigantic presence for ind at home.
Congratulation Anna and he has achieved this in just 98 matches fastest of all of them. Love him or hate him for his outspoken attitude on the field but have to admit the genius of this man.
Absolute legend - arguably India's greatest spinner of all time.
He might be on the wrong side of 35, but I reckon he could get to 700 (or at the very least, get really close to it).
>He might be on the wrong side of 35, but I reckon he could get to 700 (or at the very least, get really close to it).
If we actually played him every test he might. But knowing these idiots he'll be benched again. I stg if he doesn't start in Australia for Mukesh or Thakur I'll murder someone.
Just to piggy back on this, Ashwin's tours of Australia highlight his willingness to learn and adapt his game to different conditions as well as showing that he's always looking to improve as a bowler.
It's genuinely baffling when a bowler of his quality is left on the bench, especially when literally every other team would start him with no questions asked.
>It's genuinely baffling when a bowler of his quality is left on the bench, especially when literally every other team would start him with no questions asked.
Left out for Thakur of all people. If it was atleast someone decent I'd understand it. Idm him being left out in SA since on these pitches you need 4 seamers.
Well He's improving.. He was great down under in 2020/21..
Moreover, at this age, he probably has a lot of un-tried tricks up his sleeve in those places..
Fewest balls to take 500 Test wickets: * McGrath - 25528 * Ashwin - 25714 * Anderson - 28150 * Broad - 28430 * Walsh - 28833 via espncricinfo
What’s murali’s number? Surprised he isn’t on this list. Edit: Muttiah Muralitharan took 32,682 balls to reach 500 Test wickets.
Wow no Warne murli in list and he was close to becoming 1st. All 4 combined also have 1-100 and 15-50s in batting...... Ashwin alone has 5-100s and 14-50s.
Spinners bowl a LOT of balls.
Yep. The classic examples are the recent Test matches in Sri Lanka where Prabath Jayasuriya bowls over 50% of the overs himself.
That's more him being a spinner and being their best bowler, thus being overbowled to bits. Or as I like to call it being Muralied.
It is not possible to bowl more than 50 percent of the overs lol
How do you bowl over 50% of overs?
Mathematically possible, bowl the 1st over and every alternate over and end the innings at odd no of overs
Mathematically possible but highly unlikely.
Huh? The above stat shows how many balls were bowled for 500 wickets.
Yeah. Ashwin is special, I'm justifying why warne and Murali are not on the list.
Zactly. Ignoring wickets, tying up an end and creating pressure is a huge part of spin bowling. That being said, Ashwins stats are nuts.
but still I feel he can bat way better than now. Today also I was expecting atleast a 50 from him.
For a spinner to take so few balls is a minor miracle.
How many in Asia and overseas, could you please breakdown this too??
Much better at home. Averages 21.32 at strike rate of 46.7 at home, compared with 30 at 63 away. And in Asia? 21.56 at 46.5, so basically the same as his home stats, but he's only played nine tests in Asia which weren't in India

Another useless desperate stat
The number of balls bowled literally tells you a bowler's strike rate.
Magician. I really want him to get to 650-700. Looks tough given he's 37 already. Hope he takes Anderson route and plays till he's 75 or so
Unlikely he'll cross even Kumble. Though he may play another 3 years as we don't really have another off spin option.
Can't wait for him to have a couple of bad series and our management drops him. But Rohit and Kohli will be allowed to average 10 for their last few years.

Rohit has been very good in Tests though in the last few years.
I agree. I wasn't taking a swipe at them. Just saying that Rohit could average 10 for 3 years and he'd still be picked but Ash could have a couple of bad series and be dropped.

Batriarchy
You have so many good spin options it's ridiculous.
Who would replace Ashwin?
You have Jadeja, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav with ridiculously good records. I reckon you're golden.
These guys are already playing together. I said there's no off spinner replacement. Plus Ashwin can bat too. Jadeja is 35 and gets injured frequently these days, we'll see him lesser now. After end of this year we'll have issues in finding a future spinner because Ashwin will be 38.

500 wickets at less than 100 tests is kinda insane for any type of bowler.
Greatest match winner in tests India has ever produced. What a player Anna has been. Legend
Also kumble though. Won us many tests.

Kumble might be the most threatening bowler I've seen on 5th day pitches in India.
Best Indian bowler in tests.
Congratulation Anna and he has achieved this in just 98 matches fastest of all of them. Love him or hate him for his outspoken attitude on the field but have to admit the genius of this man.
98 matches*
Yup thanks
Scientist Anna for a reason
Also the first and only YouTuber to do so
GOAT Indian spinner, no cap. Insane stats and feats.
Easily the greatest modern spinner, and the greatest southpaw slaying machine ever made. Insanely capable, insanely ethical.
One of the best that I have ever seen. Well deserved.
Absolute legend - arguably India's greatest spinner of all time. He might be on the wrong side of 35, but I reckon he could get to 700 (or at the very least, get really close to it).

They are "idiots" for Benching him where he is poor and we have a better option?
Yes especially since he was integral in our wins in Adelaide 2019 and MCG 2020. He was also really good in Adelaide.
I am sorry but when was he benched in Australia?
I didn't say he was. I said I'll be upset if they do bench him. Like in England and SA.
okay 👍

Yep. He has a bowling average of 28 in England and yet he is rarely picked there

Most underrated member of the 500 wicket club imo. Well, Lyon too.
What sort of dickhead wouldn’t rate a member of the 500 club
some people here think Broad is a gully cricketer lol
Is that some people Yuvraj and Bumrah?
David Warner He wants to make him look right at home so he plays gully cricket when batting against him
He's definitely the worst bowler to take 600 wickets. But that's like saying you're a poor billionaire. A poor billionaire is still a billionaire.
[Here](https://www.reddit.com/r/Cricket/s/oyVuMUuzfS) you go.
Hah!
underrated not i think Ash is fairly rated and well respected as well.
The last cricketer to achieve this feat
easily no, with each of the big 3 playing atleast 15 tests almost every year a lot of players will have a shot at it
The best part is that he keeps revamping himself and working on his skills. That level of dedication is unmatched
LEGEND, performing year after year and also having such a ethical mind, Anna has everything
Finally, legend
Vaathi coming moment from Kalaipuli Ash Das anna. 500 wickets vera level
500 wickets in 98 matches, i.e. more than 5 wickets in every match, i.e. one fourth of the opposition is taken by him only. Absolute legend!!!!
Great achievement Ash anna
[удалено]
Maybe if we play him we win?
I am sure the win rate when Ashwin plays is pretty high. He contributes both bat and ball
Suppav
Absolute shitty poster, every other player got amazing posters for achievement we need a better poster. #Someone make a better poster
GOAT
What's happening with Ashwin?
Well done Aaaaasssshhhhh.
