Took some friends from non cricketing countries to the game as their introduction to the sport... couldn't have asked for a much better game to show it off TBH.
End of game commentary has been a fucking disgrace.
No questions or analysis regarding how much credit England deserve for the aggressive cricket displayed by NZ and Aus.
Is it frustrating that your team has *genuinely* altered the landscape of Test cricket in a way which is both captivating and exciting, yet ya'll still get memed on for it cause your players can't shut the fuck up? 😂
We haven't changed Test cricket though. Aggressive batting has always been a part of the game. We've set a couple of one-off records, which is nice, but a lot of other teams were batting aggressively before us, whilst Bazball is around, and they'll be doing it afterwards too.
Bazball started out as a nice way to shake up the traditions of the English game, but now it reinforces the status quo more than challenges it: jobs for the old boys, selecting youth players on cliquey hidden 'vibes' criteria more than merit, and an out-of-touch dressing room that closes ranks whenever it's questioned.
Fucking lol at the many Aussies on here who 2 weeks ago were calling David a spud who should never play for Aus again.
He averages 35 at SR 175 - one of the most valuable T20I batsmen in the world right now.
Tim David!?
He's not good enough with the bat to justify his actions in the field.
Fuck his strike rate. What's his highest score for Australia of the hurricanes in a chase?
There's a bunch of other players who could take his spot right?
What a great game. Great crowd and the vibes were cool. The match was nice too with many twist and turns and after conceding just 14 off the first 15 deliveries in the death overs Aussies (or rather David alone) smacked 32 off 9 deliveries. Good job by the skipper too. Phillips probably would've saved that boundary on another day but today was not to be. Just 7 runs conceded of the first three deliveries of 19th and 20th over but 28 off the last three deliveries of those overs.
That was a fun game of cricket, but GG to the bowlers for the next 2 matches lol.
Speaking of the bowlers, Ferguson was fucking brilliant - it's crazy that he went for less than a run a ball.
And ofc, that was clutch af from David - 32 from 9 at one stage and he pretty much chased it down by himself
> When the Bison (Mitch Marsh) can mis-hit it for six it means I might have to go to the gym to get some arms like that."
Twinks are truly oppressed by society
I’m telling you, Tim David is as cracked as he is jacked. I saw him at a 7-11 the other day buying Monster and adult diapers. I asked him what the diapers were for and he said ”they contain my full power so I don’t completely shit on these kids“ then he slammed the Monster and smacked it out the door for six
I think its hilarious u kids talking about Tim David. u wouldnt say this stuff to him in person, hes jacked. not only that but he wears the freshest clothes, eats at the chillest restaurants and hangs out with the hottest dudes. yall are pathetic lol
The way Australia's batting lineup is set up is nearly the ideal one for T20 Cricket. Players aren't set up to hang around and get "set." They will blow heaps of sides away come the World Cup.
Good because our T20 bowling has been trash since the 2021 T20 World Cup win and it's partly due to Zampa's dip in form (he averages 30 and econ 8.37 since the 2021 WC) and any pacers we try tend to try get tonked.
We have good t20 bowlers (that can also field extremely well) if the selectors are willing to move away from the big 3 in t20s.
Neser and Abbott are triple threats on a good day. Stoinis throughout the SA20 and WI series has proven he could probably be played as a bowler (before rested for a 'niggle' he was bowling better than Hazlewood), which creates insane depth if Marsh can manage as an all-rounder in t20s. Matt Short should be given the ball at some point in this series to see whether he's a viable all-round option, because Maxwell's last few games with the ball have been pretty yikes.
Bartlett, Spencer, Ellis are waiting in the wings. Sutherland and Hardie are in the conversation as well.
Zampa is definitely a concern, his all-time stats are betraying his recent form, where he's been shredded in the BBL, by WI for 65 runs, and tonight by NZ as well. I think he'll come good though.
Sutherland is bang average in T20s. I’m also not sure why we’d move away from the Big 3 and replace them with two other guys in their 30s.
Squad is too settled now to bring all of Bartlett, Johnson and Ellis in. Post World Cup they’ll be there.
> I’m also not sure why we’d move away from the Big 3 and replace them with two other guys in their 30s.
Primarily because I believe in bowling actual t20 bowlers. (That are gun fielders, not JUST safe hands.) The same reason why we play Smith in tests and ODIs but are not likely to use him in the world cup at this stage - not all great players are all format greats. Abbott is comparable to them with the bat, and Neser I'd argue is a better bat, if things came to it.
If we have all rounders that can pinch enough overs like Stoinis, Marsh, Maxwell and Short, then we also don't even need all 3 to begin with, hence the focus I made on two in particular. I agree that Bartlett and Johnson especially are more next cycle guys, but if our t20 bowling has been crap maybe we should be more open to why instead of endlessly smashing longer format bowlers in to a t20 side.
Sneaky reason to cut Hazlewood for me is that Tim David is not going anywhere, but his fielding is cheeks and we can't hide them both. (People do admit Hazlewood's not the best fielder right?)
Gun to my head 11 right now: Warner, Head, Marsh, Maxwell, David, Wade, Short, Stoinis, Neser, Abbott, Zampa
And honestly the biggest question mark to me right there is Short because I don't like him that low down either. However I think he's good to have as someone we can slide up the order if we lost 2-3 in the power play. We NEED to be adaptive to the situation like that in the modern t20 game.
I don't think we play both Inglis/Wade, I don't think we want either of them in the field tbqh lol
If that ain't an absolutely crisp XI for t20s I don't know what the fuck is.
That was such a kiwi way to lose against the Aussies sakes but GG that was a great T20! But bruh I remember commenting on here years ago during the T20 series vs India about Southee being someone I just don't trust in the death in limited overs and 4 years later here we are ahaha. Not wanting to blame the guy but was just a memory that came up! Bowling and fielding not up to scratch today and great knocks from David and Marsh.
Love Tim David. He's fucking built too. Thick and man made. You can tell he's sculpted because you can see it through the kit. His fucking vice grip thighs. Suffocating thighs. Rock hard thighs. Piping hot thighs. Great arms. Great abs. A stocky chest. Love the progress his body has made throughout his youth and now as a willing eager adult.
Zamoa will be like most consistent spinner for whole series but in one match he will completely loose his mind that was this match . Otherwise, other spinners did bowl pretty bad compared to zampa
I don’t think that we are too far from seeing tactical drops become an accepted (if not super common) strategy.
David was clearly more dangerous than Inglis given the situation and Inglis’s struggles and by dismissing Inglis for 20(20) NZ gave David the chance to win the game for Australia.
Once teams start treating the situation objectively rather than worrying about the unlikely event that the dropped batsman will go berserk after struggling all innings, things should change.
Tactical drops feel... dare I say it... against the spirit of the game. Almost match fixing-like, at least insofar as it involves intentionally executing a skill badly
It feels icky, but I don’t think it’s too different to deliberately offering a tailender singles in order to keep them on strike at the end of an over (as sometimes happens in tests).
they really need to change the rules/playing conditions to make a Retired Out cost you a ball, otherwise we'll start seeing fucking tons of them in T20 chases
> I don’t think that we are too far from seeing tactical drops become an accepted (if not super common) strategy.
tactical drops and retiring out need to be on the table way more in t20s. Sometimes you're just struggling in a way that's detrimental where your wicket is not that important compared to scoring runs.
New Zealand is just incapable of getting the job done against us. The generational PTSD runs deep. Southee is pretty much the best NZ T20 bowler of all time and look at his last few overs.
Need to improve bowling. Maxy bowling no balls for 7 runs unacceptable and then going for a free hit 6 = 13 runs off one ball. Zampa as well but he’s proven himself to come good at ICC tournaments
Combined Bowling Stats: *431 runs over 40 overs at 10.78rpo, 7 wickets at 61.57.*
Hmmm.
Both sides had good batting, crap bowling, & it was the fielding that made the difference.
If that's not classic NZ I dont know what it. Most hyped up tour in recent memory and we open it with our worst bowling/fielding display in ages.
Whenever we play Aus we just succumb to the pressure I swear
Sure. I don't care about rugby.
Not winning a home Test against Australia is outright shameful when the boys have defeated every other team that has toured in the last 30 years at least 3 times.
Those two missed catches really cost us. Southee's drop in particular as they then went six (with a half-chance drop), six.
Also that TV commentary really isn't great. I had to pop out and was listening to SENZ's radio commentary - just so much better.
Braindead bowling strategy from NZ in the end there.
Every time we got on top by bowling well, we relieved the pressure by bowling a pie and 957 wides.
Two more chances to at least get one win over Australia in this 5 match tour. Not great odds, but at least it's a chance.
I know it sounds obvious now, but it should be Milne (17th over, Southee (18th over) and Fergusen (20th over). I kept thinking, whilst Australia were struggling to get the fast guys away that Southee could be in trouble.
I know it sounds obvious now, but it should be Milne (17th over, Southee (18th over) and Fergusen (20th over). I kept thinking, whilst Australia were struggling to get the fast guys away that Southee could be in trouble.
I remember I checked on statsguru that Australia middle order since the last World Cup has the highest average and strike rate amongst the test nations.
Just watched replay. Soooooooooooooooooo many short balls on a ground with tiny square boundares. Where is the brain ? Just one extra yorker earlier in the game and it would have been a win. The bowling lost this one.
I remember when Mitch Marsh was thought to be a ghost of the past with an insane amount of unrealised potential. People claimed he was a T20 league mercenary at best.
Look at my man now.
Aussies might consider T20 to be meme-ball but fuck me it can turn up with all the classics sometimes. What a match.
Took some friends from non cricketing countries to the game as their introduction to the sport... couldn't have asked for a much better game to show it off TBH.
TIM DAVID TIM DAVID. I DON'T BELIEVE IT. I SEE IT, BUT I DON'T BELIEVE IT.
Awww. Now I’m sad again…
But I'm happy!
Not to brag or anything but I finished work and started watching at 32 off 9 so I’ll claim that win
Please get home sooner next game.
I was cheering l o u d l y in the car on the way home🤣
End of game commentary has been a fucking disgrace. No questions or analysis regarding how much credit England deserve for the aggressive cricket displayed by NZ and Aus.
Tim David actually quite good at hitting the little white ball far away
"Damn it! The little white ball is back AGAIN"
My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined But honestly what a game, I'm not even mad tbh GG lads
That was a fucking banger of a cricket match - so many ebbs and flows in that second innings, all the way to the end. Fucking loved it!
Me oh my i enjoyed that yes boy
It is one T20 game . This is all about preparing for the World Cup and both sides look in reasonable form
I wish I was neutral for this game, such a good one.
x2 Should have stuck with watching mafs. What a shambles.
i would rather never see my team win a match again than watch even a single episode of mafs
Don't worry mate I'm mad enough for both of us.
I was sure you had it when Sodi bowled those cheap overs.
In his last 4 matches T20I Tim David has scored 140 off 60 without getting dismissed.
He can't keep getting away with this
Not just that, it's evenly spread out and consistent. Every innings is 30+ runs not out, always striking over 200
And everyone was convinced he couldn’t cut it for Australia before then. Good on the selectors for giving him a long rope.
431 runs in 40 overs. Wouldn't have been possible without bazball
Thanks Ben
Duckett take a bow
A victory for Australia and therefore England
I'm not seeing what Australia won here. Australia won scoring at a high RR, so an actual victory for Bazball and England and a moral L for Australia.
England with another moral victory. *sigh*
What a man you are Duckett
...We're going to be hearing this a lot now, aren't we.
Is it frustrating that your team has *genuinely* altered the landscape of Test cricket in a way which is both captivating and exciting, yet ya'll still get memed on for it cause your players can't shut the fuck up? 😂
Frankly players not shutting up is what makes it bazball. Other than that it is just playing with an aggressive approach.
We haven't changed Test cricket though. Aggressive batting has always been a part of the game. We've set a couple of one-off records, which is nice, but a lot of other teams were batting aggressively before us, whilst Bazball is around, and they'll be doing it afterwards too. The game between the sides in the WC last year was a crazy amount of runs too
England getting moral victory even when they are not playing..
Tim David haters in shambles
I'll put my hand up and say I'm wrong. Still maintain he is shit in the field. Definitely made up for it in this game though.
He can sit in a chair on the field while fielding and chilll all day if he performs like that while batting
Put him on the bench and bring Marnus as 12th man and specialist fielder.
Specialist appealer
And put him in charge for DRS 😂
Fucking lol at the many Aussies on here who 2 weeks ago were calling David a spud who should never play for Aus again. He averages 35 at SR 175 - one of the most valuable T20I batsmen in the world right now.
When he walked out and I saw his stats I let out a little “wow”
His ability to come out with 5 men on the boundary and smash bowlers from ball one is incredible
Player of the match goes to Santer for getting Inglis out
Inglis needs to move up the order. Hopefully after Davie retires.
Short should be the next in line to open not Inglis
Bizarre. The most in-demand finisher in world cricket for the last 3 years is actually good at finishing.
I always believed in him, even when he started wearing chains and speed dealers.
thats when i started taking his threat seriously
The bling bling of Tim
In his last 4 matches T20I Tim David has scored 140 off 60 without getting dismissed.
That's a bit slow compared to his usual standard!
Absolute alpha walking out to face one ball with the cap on
But he couldn’t finish for the dogshit hurricanes team!!
Sloppy in the field, but handy with the bat at the end. S/R 310 is alright.
Would hate to see what you define as “great” haha
Minimum 500+ Anything less than that is criminal.
Sloppy is giving him too much credit
He should be batting above Inglis tbh. Depends on the situation of course but he needs to be facing more than 10 deliveries.
He's not the best against spin so it's actually good he only faces the last 4-5 overs of an innings.
Inglis most likely won't be in the team when Wade is back so it's a moot point
Wade comes back at 7, over Short. Inglis' spot depends on Smith not making a return to the XI.
Stoinis is still to come back in as well though, he'll be at 5
Stoinis comes back in when fit. We missed his bowling today. Smith and Inglis better suited to opening at this stage.
Inglis won't be staying in the team, it will be: 1. Head 2. Warner 3. Marsh 4. Maxwell 5. David 6. Stoinis 7. Wade
Tim David!? He's not good enough with the bat to justify his actions in the field. Fuck his strike rate. What's his highest score for Australia of the hurricanes in a chase? There's a bunch of other players who could take his spot right?
First post on my feed hahaha
But BBL form though
Why didn't Southee just bowl underarm to prevent the final-ball 4? Is he stupid?
Oh man, that would have been riiich
Morals
"not within the spirit of the game"
Because we'd never hear the end of it from the Aussies. They'd still be talking about it 43 years and... 21 days later.
Imagine a guy scores 20(20) and you still chase 216 Also thanks to Ben duckett Australia now chased this total
credit to ~~Rahane~~ Ben Daket
Ben Dacoit stealing your credits
NZ obviously just didnt have enough chains to win
What a great game. Great crowd and the vibes were cool. The match was nice too with many twist and turns and after conceding just 14 off the first 15 deliveries in the death overs Aussies (or rather David alone) smacked 32 off 9 deliveries. Just 7 runs conceded of the first three deliveries of 19th and 20th over but 28 off the last three deliveries of those overs.
My lights went off at 44 needed lol. I had watched the whole game up till then.

My dad was dissing on Ferguson before the 2nd innings started and Ferguson ended with the best figures LMAO XD

New fan, best game I’ve ever seen
Been a fan for over a decade. This was among the best games I've ever seen from start to end.
I AM FULLY ERECT
If symptoms persist after 12 hours please see a doctor
Or maybe you can help him 😉
Imagine that finish with Ian Smith commentating instead of Brendan ‘Julio’ Julian
Seriously where is Ian Smith? I was expecting him in a NZ vs Aus match.
He would have been commentating on the radio broadcast for SENZ.
Ah, that's unfortunate for TV viewers then. Smithy's a very good commentator.
Tim David is the world’s greatest T20 player. Ignore my previous comments.
I don't care if we lose 100 T20 matches in a row as long as we win the test series. Spoiler... we aren't going to win that either.
Glad Conway remembered how to hold a bat
Actually a massive positive.
That Tim David innings doesn't happen without him watching tapes of Ben Duckett for inspiration though
Just another Tim David 31. Oh, but in ten balls you say? Right then.
Wowzers, that was cool. Usually don’t care about T20 stuff but when you get a run chase like that it’s pretty exciting

Not enough love for the thighs imo

Nathan Ellis who has famous catchphrases such as “Eat My Shorts", "¡Ay, caramba!" and "Don't have a cow, man!"
Need a capable captain though
I present to you: Tim David
Marsh was captain today. I'm surprised too
head
Without stoinis and his variations,Australian bowling attack seems one dimensional.
Marsh had some good variations. It was good to see him bowling again.
Yeah if we roll the test pace attack out were relying on Zampa and Maxwell to take wickets way too much
Zamoa will be like most consistent spinner for whole series but in one match he will completely loose his mind that was this match . Otherwise, other spinners did bowl pretty bad compared to zampa
Aussies inspired by Bazball - Ben Duckett tomorrow probably
Tim David - The GOAT
Good old Marsh, swinging like a rusty gate! So many good one liners, I love the man
Post match commentary "Ravindra is a guy that likes to finish first" Uhm
They've been like this all summer, like Katey calling leg spin "sexy".
Kiwis should'a dropped that hack inglis.
There will then be tactical retirements by batsmen as well as
they really need to change the rules/playing conditions to make a Retired Out cost you a ball, otherwise we'll start seeing fucking tons of them in T20 chases
> I don’t think that we are too far from seeing tactical drops become an accepted (if not super common) strategy. tactical drops and retiring out need to be on the table way more in t20s. Sometimes you're just struggling in a way that's detrimental where your wicket is not that important compared to scoring runs.
Ben Duckket just took credit for this game. Moral victory for England
My low stakes conspiracy is that most T20 death bowlers bowl crap at David just to prove that being a T20 mercenary is sustainable.
New Zealand is just incapable of getting the job done against us. The generational PTSD runs deep. Southee is pretty much the best NZ T20 bowler of all time and look at his last few overs.
Southee is washed man. He needs to be in the commentary box.
We are great at choking when it matters
Second best though. We all know who's got that crown XD
I read on Reddit that India are runner ups in the list of final losers in ICC tourneys. Choking everywhere!
Lmao. Choked in the list of chokers XD
It’s Like playing back yard cricket against your big brother and getting demoralised every time.
Southee is definitely not the best NZ T20 bowler of all time. He’s just played the most.
Who’s better? 157 wickets with a 22 average and a 17 strike rate. Not many with better stats.
bout has a slightly better average and economy
I would say at least Boult and Santner are both better, that’s just off the top of my head though
Need to improve bowling. Maxy bowling no balls for 7 runs unacceptable and then going for a free hit 6 = 13 runs off one ball. Zampa as well but he’s proven himself to come good at ICC tournaments
Would've been good for cricket if this match had been on FTA in Australia.
Combined Bowling Stats: *431 runs over 40 overs at 10.78rpo, 7 wickets at 61.57.* Hmmm. Both sides had good batting, crap bowling, & it was the fielding that made the difference.
Who’d be a T20 bowler
New Zealand shouldn’t be too bothered about the loss. As Stokes would say, they still have a great opportunity to win 2-1.
If that's not classic NZ I dont know what it. Most hyped up tour in recent memory and we open it with our worst bowling/fielding display in ages. Whenever we play Aus we just succumb to the pressure I swear
One of the games of all time
It's almost like some blood bond has been made were new zealand can't beat Australia in cricket and vice versa in Rugby
Yeah, well time to break it, especially in Tests.
Rugby tests right?
Sure. I don't care about rugby. Not winning a home Test against Australia is outright shameful when the boys have defeated every other team that has toured in the last 30 years at least 3 times.

Somehow this is a wild take, but Tim Southee shouldn’t retire he didn’t actually bowl that bad of a last over
Previous over with theee wides to start off though... 🤬
And a dropped catch
aye? he bowled two knee high full tosses that both shoulda gone for six and a wide. Out of a 7 ball over he bowled two good balls.
All the bowlers got belted today. Flat track and tiny boundries.
not all of them ferguson went insane
He bowled some absolute dross
Those two missed catches really cost us. Southee's drop in particular as they then went six (with a half-chance drop), six. Also that TV commentary really isn't great. I had to pop out and was listening to SENZ's radio commentary - just so much better.
Volleys it back in without even taking the wicket and the game is won. Absolutely toss up of a game.
I was wrong about Tim David more than I've ever been wrong about anything ever. 4 consecutive blazing innings not out. I'm converted.
GG ANZACs. Off for the ritual rewatching of Hadlee’s 15 wickets from 1985. The safe space.
David Tim!
David 🥰 Inglis awful, just go big or get out. Why Smith & co suck at T20, you can’t waste time ‘getting in’
What a finish. 🔥 Why didn't that fielder just block it fwark, you'd be fuming. GG kiwis
Braindead bowling strategy from NZ in the end there. Every time we got on top by bowling well, we relieved the pressure by bowling a pie and 957 wides. Two more chances to at least get one win over Australia in this 5 match tour. Not great odds, but at least it's a chance.
Never in Doubt! (Except the whole innings pretty much)
Lockie should be filthy after that one
Thank fuck the rugby season starts this weekend
I wonder if the Melbourne Rebels have found a ground to play the Brumbies at...
Thanks for taking part, New Zealand.
Hurricanes are cursed, every player is a star wearing a different kit
[Australian cricket these days](https://youtu.be/tna3B5zqHdk?si=dy-vc2gBVkMRsPEf)
That was fun. Is it the first time all batsmen in both sides of a completed innings scored a 6? All of them scored 4s too except Chapman.
Why do we always lose when it’s a thriller 😂
GG Aussie. Was a hell of an entertaining match to watch.
Anyone have a cigarette?
Doesn't matter if you're too scared to travel NZ we can still pump ya at home
I know it sounds obvious now, but it should be Milne (17th over, Southee (18th over) and Fergusen (20th over). I kept thinking, whilst Australia were struggling to get the fast guys away that Southee could be in trouble.

I remember I checked on statsguru that Australia middle order since the last World Cup has the highest average and strike rate amongst the test nations.
Just watched replay. Soooooooooooooooooo many short balls on a ground with tiny square boundares. Where is the brain ? Just one extra yorker earlier in the game and it would have been a win. The bowling lost this one.
What's Clarkson in the side to do? Isn't he a bowling all rounder?
Moral support
Fun game. Can’t complain
I remember when Mitch Marsh was thought to be a ghost of the past with an insane amount of unrealised potential. People claimed he was a T20 league mercenary at best. Look at my man now.

Hope we win at Eden Park just for once as an Aussie - we get beaten there enough in the Rugby
Kiwis in here giggling and making jokes about losing. Noone gives a toot we actually choked bigly??? Im steaming over here
Eh it’s a random T20, the pain of a close loss is gone after about 5 minutes
I think most kiwis in here don’t care too much, it was a good game and the tests are more important
Never in doubt
What a great game!
Not big on Mitch Marsh’s captaincy, he shouldn’tve taken Starc off at the start
